Makena Turtle Town Eco Adventure In Maui

I arrived early the morning of the excursion and found out the tour was cancelled by the tour guide. I’m still waiting on a refund. This was back in September 2026.

We had a great time with Andreas. He told us about the area, and led us to the turtles. He took a lot of pictures for us too. Great way to spend the morning.

Our experience was fantastic. Our guide was Andres and he is the man. Amazing communication and management of expectations of what will make the trip successful, which made the difference as we brought a family of six with kids ranging from 7-13. He led us well throughout the tour, gave us great commentary about the area of Hawaii, and most importantly, he brought us to the Turtles! He took a ton of pictures above and underwater and gave us an experience to remember!!! Would recommend to all, especially a family friendly experience.

Andreas was an amazing guide. He told us all about the island and surroundings and made sure we had the best snorkel spot!!!

It wasn’t clear with the booking that you would be getting into the water with unstable footing. It’s unfortunate we were not able go. Getting on and off the kayak In the open ocean was not Compatible with our group of people

We had an amazing time on the kayaking trip with our guide Andres. Earlier in the week the water was super murky because of the hurricane so we were unable to snorkel on our boat trip. We took another chance and booked a kayaking tour was great. The water had cleared up so we were able to snorkel at a few places in Turtle Town. While we didn’t see any turtles we saw a bunch of fish and got to swim right above the coral reef. Having a guide was helpful in that he knew exactly where to take us, helped us get in and out of the kayakes and helped my kids with their snorkels.

the tour was excellent. our guide, Macarena, was super helpful but let us explore on our own as well. we did see 3 sea turtles up close and lots of reef fish. well worth our time here on Maui.

Might was a great guide and he put us on tons of turtles. If the big water is intimidating or its your first time, Miah is great. He takes his time explaining and is super knowledgeable about Maui and the islands. The dad jokes are bad but lol...you'll have a good time. Enjoy

The experience itself was fun. Before we started Andreas asked who would like photos during the excursion, we told him we would. I was there with my family, two teen girls and my husband. He said it would be $25 a person. We hardly got any photos taken, but I just went with it, tried to enjoy myself. Once we we finished and ready to leave the other customers asked to see the photos before paying and he told them no, that we had to pay upfront and then he would send us photos(that were taken on his phone), no later than 6 pm that day and it was currently around 10am. The day went on and no photos, my husband texted him after 6pm, no response, texted again in the morning, no response. We messaged him about 4 times until he sent a file to us with photos. Andreas sent us 24 total photos and 12 of them were of the other families! 4 of the photos were no good and blurry. First off, 12 photos for $25 a person was not even close to being fair and then to receive photos of other people?! No, not ok. Then knowing I’m receiving other peoples photos leads me to believe he sent photos of my daughters to other families. This is not ok for me and I am very upset. Wearing a swim suit in from of others during an excursion is one thing, but to know now they have permanent photos on file of my daughters in bikinis, is not ok. Also, we saw turtles which was amazing, when I shouted out how cool it was and if he can get a photo of it, he responded with “I’ll just get one from a copy I have, on an old trip, no worries.” We trusted he would be fair and professional when offering to take photos of our family. We didn’t expect him to take money under the table and then send photos of all the families. Very UNHAPPY. Very disappointed because this was our only excursion and then this happened. Don’t purchase photos from the guide on this trip.

A must in Hawaii. I would absolutely recommend this tour. Our guide was great, really knowledgeable and made us feel at ease. Great experience. Don’t hesitate. Book it.

This was a truly wonderful experience for my entire family! Our guide, John, was very helpful, informative, and entertaining as well. Best of all, since not everyone in my family is a strong swimmer, he took the time to put the less strong swimmers at ease and carefully guide them through getting into and out of the kayak and how to snorkel enjoyably! I can't thank him enough for his help, guidance, and for making this an incredibly positive experience for all of us! Thanks again!

We did many fun things while in Maui, but each member of my family said that this trip was one of our favorite activities. John, our guide, was fantastic and made everyone feel comfortable. You can tell he loves what he does and truly appreciates the marine life and environment. Some highlights on the tour include holding an octopus and swimming directly next to countless sea turtles. Definitely recommend this tour!

Had an incredible day and trip to snorkel with the turtles. Andres was super knowledgeable and unbelievably kind and helpful with the littles we were with!

We did not get to experience this activity because of high surf. We were contacted it was cancelled however still waiting on a full refund.

What a wonderful time we had. Not only did we see multiple turtles but also had the pleasure of watching 3 dolphins swim by us. Andres was our guide and he was amazing!

Our family had a great experience kayaking and seeing the turtles. We were able to reschedule to the next day after conditions prevented us from going out the day before. Launching and returning to the beach was so fun even as the surf wasn’t smooth. Andres timed the surf perfectly so all in our group had no problems. Seeing the turtles in their natural habitat is so great. I loved the different types of sea urchins and fish. Yes, you can get in and out of a kayak in the sea without any issue if you are remotely athletic. Suggestion: don’t book your excursion when the tide is incoming, the water will be clearer.

Andres was wonderful and we always felt well taken care of. We got to see so many turtles and pretty fish.

My husband and I booked this trip and John S. Was our guide. John was an excellent tour leader, very upbeat and positive, as well as patient and helpful. He made kayaking easy with clear simple instructions. In addition, John was quite patient with me as I am not a good snorkeler. He made it easy for even me to view the sea turtles. The photos he took were outstanding. We highly recommend this tour.

I am a senior woman traveling solo. Andres Silva reassured me that I would be fine, and I was. His expert direction and guidance kept me calm. It was an amazing experience and Andres was informative and fun.

John was an amazing tour guide. He gave us a really unforgettable adventure to turtle town, and it was so sweet to see how much he cared about the sea life. He also gave great tips for how to kayak and snorkle more efficiently and comfortably.

We had a great time with our guide John! I was nervous about getting in and out of the kayak and he was so patient and gave step by step instructions to help me succeed. We saw so many turtles, it was an amazing day!

The morning off the tour I showed up in the right place and was told they were not there. I called the owner and he told me they canceled for bad weather. There was no clouds in the sky and all the other companies were taking out groups. They said they called, left a message, sent a text and email but they did not. I did not get any of these from them. 2 other groups also had the same issue and did not receive and info about the cancelation.

WOW!!! Hands down the best experience of my life!! It’s always been a dream of mine to swim with sea turtles and John made that happen. 100/10 experience and will definitely be doing this again when we come back to Maui! John was excellent in showing us the ropes of kayaking and made it super fun and easy. If you’re thinking about snorkeling, do it!!

I would not recommend using this company to book your excursion. I received a phone call from the owner 30 minutes before our appointment time canceling our excursion due to wind. However, it was not at all windy that morning. Knowing that the weather could not be the reason for canceling, we ended up driving to the meeting location and spoke to a couple of the other companies offering kayak and snorkeling tours and explained what happened. I was told that this company has a reputation of canceling. We were lucky enough that Chris from Tropical Guides was able to include us with another group. We had a great time! The morning was not wasted after all.

Awesome snorkel Andreas our guide took us directly to where the turtles were and took some amazing pictures ..incredible experience..so worth it!

disappointing at best since we did not see any turtles becuase of the weather. we booked this a day before and they never told us about the weather problem.

Andres, our guide, was awesome. He was super fun and made the trip fun and memorable. We saw a couple whales and where we stopped to snorkel, there was just about no one else there. Seems like he knows all the best spots. We saw lots of turtles and great coral while we were were in the water. I would definitely book this again if I go back to Maui.

Amazing experience! Took about 3-4 hours total but was a highlight of our Maui trip! Andres was super helpful and informative. He was very patient with my mom who isn’t a strong swimmer. There were a TON of turtles when we went. Was 1 guide to a 4 person group size and felt perfectly comfortable. Would book again and recommend to others.

Excellent experience! My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves that beautiful Saturday in October. The fee was fair, and the length of time was perfect. The tour went like clockwork, thanks to our top notch tour guide, Robert Andre. He was superlative, both in knowledge and personality. It was a beautiful tour and our tour guide, Andres, made it really fun and enjoyable. What a great human! He took excellent care of us, took awesome photos that he shared with us afterwards, and gave us great pointers on everything from viewing the turtles to see other parts of the island.

Our guide was amazing! The reef is incredible and the turtles are so graceful! The guide even showed us an octopus. They had water, snacks, and they taught beginners very well!

Andreas was a wonderful guide with a true spirit of Aloha, we experienced whales & turtles and a magical time. He was very knowledgable and made the experience memorable.

We saw whales breaching out of the water while we were on kayaks. A once in a lifetime experience. The wind and ocean were too choppy for snorkeling but Andres was an amazing guide and kept us safe an entertained.

Andre met us and was enthusiastic about our pending double adventure from the get-go! We first were given our kayaking gear, water, instructions and some assistance heading out through the surface. As we ventured to deeper water, Andre continued to share info, verified our comfort levels and pointed out things of interest. When we began to see distant breaching and spouts, we paddled closer and closer. Andre knew in what direction to go and we ended up within hundreds of feet of a handle of Humpbacks, both adults and calves. We enjoyed this communion with the whales for about an hour before the whales moved further out. We then returned closer to shore and donned our snorkeling gear. Within minutes, we were feet from large sea turtles! Fish of so many species were everywhere darting about, but the turtles moved slowly and gracefully--allowing us to stay close for almost an hour. This was probably the best excursion I have ever done visiting Hawaii. Andres was absolutely amazing, attentive, and informative. He ensured we were always safe and was very thorough in instructions. He brought us on a slight detour to see humpback whales and we saw so many! Best tour I’ve ever done.

Had an incredible time on a picture perfect day snorkeling with sea turtles, and unique fish in the reef. John was exceptional, very knowledgeable, fun, engaging and made the kayaking and snorkeling adventure one to remember. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone. I am already looking forward to the next time I can do this tour again!

Great experience with a great guide (Andreas) - he was fun and knowledgeable. Taught everyone about the area and the marine life while showing us some great snorkeling. Kept everyone safe and comfortable even in some rougher waters when returning

Experience was excellent. Short kayak trip to the turtle cleaning station. Got right in the water and started floating around seeing all kinds of sea life, eels, tropical fish, urchins and of course turtles. This was my wife’s and I first time and it was an experience of a lifetime. Our guide Andre’s was energetic, friendly, engaging and informative. Felt safe the entire time. Highly recommend.

Very nice activity, we like to kayak and hadn't snorkeled in years, but it was an easy peasy experience. Andres will take underwater photos if you want to (for an extra charge) We saw a ton of turtles and lots of pretty little fish. Would recommend.
