Kona Surf Lesson In Kahaluu

Max was my instructor and very good!!! and patient. I was fortunate there was only 2 of us. Max did a great job setting us up for success before we entered the water. Easy to locate the van. Provided reef shoes. Very helpful. Had a full 90 min session out in the water. I had a great time.

Andre was an amazing instructor! He gave clear instructions, was patient with us and very encouraging throughout our lesson. Would highly recommend booking with this company!

My two boys (8 and 10) and I had a fantastic time! Communication was great, meet up very clear. Max our instructor was wonderful; patient when needed, encouraging when needed, instructive all around. It showed that he loves sharing his passion with others. We will certainly be back!

Had a great time with my kids at Kahlu’u Beach Park in Kona. Our first time surfing in Hawaii and Max and Carl were awesome.

Max was an absolute 10/10! All three of our kids were first-time surfers, and he made the experience unforgettable. He was incredibly patient, kind, encouraging, and knew exactly how to build their confidence in the water. By the end of the lesson, all three were up on their boards and smiling from ear to ear. We couldn’t have asked for a better instructor and would highly recommend Max to anyone, especially families with young or first-time surfers!

Great location and easy to track them down and kids had really fun surfing. This was a birthday gift to my teenager, turning 16.

It was terrible, paid two hours for two kids and the instructor didn't do much teaching. See full google review. Also finding the shoes took way too long. Apparently a total of 30 minutes of that two hours is "debriefing". Most people would prefer just learning the entire two hours instead of talking because we are not going to surf again and only doing this for novelty. Also, he took the kids out after less than one hour because he claimed they were "cold". Yeah, not great.

This was a great experience for our 12 year old granddaughter…. Paddling the larger board was a challenge as she is short and short arms but she got up and loved it. Recommend the semi group class for personal attention

These guys were incredible! Both me and my son got up multiple times! The boys were so kind and accommodating! Celebrating my son’s 12 birthday! They made the day so special for him!

I booked this for my two teen boys, 15 and 17. This was their first time surfing and I was a little nervous. The instructors put me at ease and I really appreciate their attentiveness and patience. They made sure everyone was safe. My boys loved it. Instructions s sent to get to meeting point were accurate.

The tandem surf lesson was great for my 8yo. The instructor made the lesson and experience very fun and memorable. The older kids enjoyed the group lesson as well. If someone is inexperienced I’d recommend going with the private. The instructors were very helpful and the scenery and beach was awesome!

Overall great experience and great price! We had three surfers and they had blast. I would highly recommend.

What a fun morning! Surf lessons are in a small group of four, but with our family of three there wasn’t another person. We ended up with two instructors. One worked with our 11-year-old the whole time and the other with me and my husband. So it was practically a private lesson! The instructors were laid back in a way that made it seem fun and not stressful, and they are there to make sure you catch a wave!! So tiring and fun.

My children had a great time. Max, Colbie, Whistler were really patient and phenomenal! Thank you guys! Great surf spot, great weather and water.

Very clear directions on location prior, and our 4 teens had a blast! All had never surfed before and all were successful multiple times - stayed up on board for a long time! Recommend!

Carl was an amazing instructor with the kids. It was the first time they ever they surfed and looked like pros at the end of the lesson. Clear communication on what to expect and where to meet the day of the lesson was great. If looking for surf lessons, I would definitely recommend O'Hana surf lessons in Kona.

Carl was a great instructor and he adjusted to my learning pace quickly. I was comfortable and confident the entire time and can say I learned how to surf after one session.

Instructors were great and the beach was beautiful. The waves were not great on the day we went, but that's out of the instructor's control.

The beach is perfect for learning how to surf. The instructors are professional and informative about ths area. My older son felt comfortable and enjoyed his experience.

Of all the excursions I booked while in Kona, this one was my favorite. The lesson taught us the necessities and I was able to get up a couple times. I definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a good time and to learn a cool sport that you can fall and laugh.

I paid the group lesson rate and lucked out and got one on one instruction with a really friendly knowledgeable guy. Would positively recommend. Kahalu'u is shallow enough that you can touch your tippy these. You're not supposed to because it's protected coral, but it put my mind at ease.

It was a great experience. Great instructor. I was nervous at first, but got used to it pretty quickly. The best time for a novice like me. If you're unsure Google it. About an hour after low tide.

The entire family loved it. The kids rated it as the highlight of their trip to Hawaii. All guides were friendly and professional . They took grest care fitting everone with the correct gear. All explanations and demonstrations were clear for adults and kids.

It’s a large group of students but there were 5 instructors. Great for teens!. Website a little awkward

Koa, Brady and Andre were awesome at helping our family learn how to surf . They were punctual, and sent me good instructions and maps on how to get there. We were the first group out on the water and got lots of practice time. My son liked it so much that he signed up for a second time the following day. Highly recommend this company.

We had a great time! Our instructors Brady, Koa, and Andre were excellent teachers. Many people in my family were able to get up and surf. Definitely a highlight from our trip.

The guys were very nice, but they didn’t do too much teaching. They kind of showed us the gist and then sent on the water to try it. After we went there was no feedback, so I wasn’t sure how to improve. Additionally, we were out there for 2hrs and we each went only 4 or 5 times. These guys would be great for a private lesson, but the group lesson wasn’t super helpful

We just got back from a trip to Kona and the highlight of the trip for my 6 and 8 year olds was their surf lesson with Kaleo, Brady, and Leila. The instructors were amazing with the boys and set the kids up for success from the very beginning. I worked with the team to decide which lesson type was the best and boy did they deliver. Both kids started out tandem with the instructor and by then end, they were being pushed into waves and standing on their own. I would highly recommend Ohana Surf School if you are looking for lessons while in the Kona area. Kaleo, Brady and Leila are the best!

Surf lessons with Kaleo were fantastic! He did a great job explaining the basics of surfing on a level my 15 and 12 year old could understand and then helped make them successful surfers in the water. Would definitely recommend!

Kaleo was such a great surfing instructor…. Patient, encouraging, kind — he made the whole experience fun and enjoyable. And, I got the lucky bonus of meeting his sweet boys who tagged along! Would definitely take lessons from him again! Also, the lessons are given in a location where the waves are small and manageable for newbies!

Carl, the instructor, was a down to earth, knowledgeable, and passionate surfer. Unfortunately the waves were not great on our visit but I was able to hear a lot of stories about the Island and experiences on the surfboard. Carl’s son Kael and our younger son became best friends for the day. Afterwards they went out and surfed some more. At the end of the day, my son and I was able to surf the waves by ourselves. Thanks for giving our family memories we’ll never forget!

Aloha, first of all I want to thank the team. They have been very kind from the beginning and have answered each of my questions very clearly. I took my first surf class with Carl. He is undoubtedly a super patient and friendly person. He listens to you and explains everything very clearly. I am glad to have taken this first class with this team. If you, like me, come alone and are looking for a reliable and capable person to do this activity, I would definitely recommend them.

As a mom traveling with two teenagers, I can’t say enough good things about our surf lesson experience! 🌊 Their instructor, Parker, was absolutely fabulous—he instantly connected with both of my kids, made them feel like they could do it, and kept the whole lesson fun and engaging. Watching them gain confidence and catch waves with huge smiles on their faces was such a highlight of our trip. Out of all the amazing things we did during our two weeks on the Big Island, this was hands-down one of their very favorite activities. If you’re considering surf lessons for your teens (or really anyone), I highly recommend it. Parker made the experience unforgettable! 🏄‍♂️🌺

Brady and Brandon were FANTASTIC, so patient and encouraging, helped us talk strategy for successfully surfing and they were so great with my preteen army of girl scouts. They were super nice, experienced instructors who were chill. Don’t bother booking anywhere else, this is it.

Our instructor Molokai was extremely knowledgeable, skilled, helpful, supportive, encouraging, and flexible to adapt to our preferences and skill levels. He went above and beyond to give us the best possible experience in every way. Highly, highly recommend!

Great introduction lesson. Myself and teen children, never surfed before. We were able to learn basics and even able to successfully surf few waves . Pretty impressive for the first 2 hours ever trying to surf. Carl our instructor was wonderful! We enjoyed it a lot Highly recommend!
