We had an amazing experience. I felt like I was in heaven. I highly recommend this trip. Our tour had about 14 people and they were all really sweet. Easy hike, even though it rained on our tour, we didn't care it felt great. The guide was really knowledgeable and answered all our questions. Plus, if someone saw a bird, he would help everyone see it and tell us all about it. This tour lived up to all my expectations. I highly recommend it.
What a beautiful, peaceful place. The guides personality was perfectly suited to the tour. Glad to help support such a cool place. Loved the casual, slow pace.
Our guide was very knowledgeable about the forest and gave a lot of really interesting information. She was very excited about her job and you could tell that she enjoyed what she does!
Amazing experience!! The participants we met on this tour as well as ourselves asked several questions making this a very interactive tour. Our guide was very compassionate on how they are preserving the Santuary and sharing all its has to offer with their guests.
What an amazing and inspiring visit! Our guide, Daphne was passionate, intelligent, and knowledgeable about the multitude of unique species in the forest and had scientific but extremely approachable and relatable experiences to share. She utilized local knowledge and lore to impart a strong sense of belonging and the desire for us to learn more and to continue to be better stewards of this incredible planet! Well done, highly recommended!
Beautiful location and hike through the forest. Great opportunity to learn about the big island’s vegetation. Heather was very gracious and knowledgeable. Our group of 7 was fortunate to see a bit of bird activity & thrilled to see two endemic birds.
Getting to walk around the cloud forest sanctuary was amazing! Our guide was so knowledgeable about the flora and fauna in the area. And the history of the place is so interesting! Definitely bring a camera!!
Fabulous experience. Immersed in the forest. So peacefully and connected to earth. Bria? Spelling was a great guide.
The 2.5 hr tour went by like water down a hill. Hiking was easy and we stopped several times to marvel at nature and its resilience. We got to see amazing nature scenes, and Heather was a knowledgeable, patient, and accommodating guide! Her enthusiasm was clearly evident and rather infectious!
Our tour guide was very knowledgable about the area and history of the Kona Cloud Forest. I was quite taken by her knowledge of the different foliage in the area, history and botanical importance to the environment. The trail was natural, which made it all the more interesting, The tour guide answered questions clearly and with confidence, showing her knowledge of the area. I would definitely recommend this tour to my friends, co-workers and visitors.
This trip was very spontaneous for my husband and I. I felt the cost of the experience was well within the price range of activities on the island. Our tour guide Heather rose was amazing. She was super informative, pleasant to talk to I felt like she knew all the answers to the questions that were asked. I also feel like the environment that the trees and flowers are flourishing in was incredible. Highly recommend this as an unusual stop on your Hawaiian vacation.
We loved our tour with Daphne! She was very informative, extremely knowledgeable about the area and the history, and made the tour very interesting and interactive. The tour was perfect, not difficult, we saw really cool trees and birds. Cute little gift shack at the end too where they gave us a cup of tea. Excellent morning spent in the Cloud Forest!
Heather Rose did an outstanding job teaching us about the amazing Cloud Forrest. There is so much to learn.
This place is incredible. That land is gorgeous the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I went with my 79 year old mom and we had an amazing time I can not recommend it enough.
Heather Rose was the best guide and really knew her stuff. The forest was so beautiful and we learned so much about both the endemic flora and the flora brought over from other countries. The hike was leisurely and relaxing as Heather wove in stories with the facts and we all really enjoyed listening to her. This was definitely a zen experience that I would recommend to anyone planning on visiting the Big Island of Hawaii.
This was a wonderful guided tour of the cloud forest and the birds that live there. Our guide, Dean, did a fantastic job identifying the birds and explaining how they live and interact with each other and the forest. He pointed out trees and plants and explained how they are used by the animals and humans. The tour was a very fair price for what was presented. It was not strenuous and we stopped frequently to watch for birds and observe their behaviors. I highly recommend this guided tour. Mountain Thunder Coffee Roasters is just up the road and offers tours and tastings and was a perfect way to cap off our morning hike.
A wonderful, special visit. It rejuvenates the soul!
This experience ended up being one of the highlights of a very fun and beautiful trip to Hawaii. The guides were incredible. None of us wanted the tour to end. I want to frequently order things from this business to keep their mission going and help support the education and advocacy they are involved in.
It is an easy hike (uphill but slow moving) amongst a beautiful cloud forest that was only restarted in 1982. Before then it was open grassland for cattle. Trees and undergrowth are beautiful. Trail is well maintained. Our guide, Daphne, was very knowledgeable and willing to answer all questions. Great way to learn about Hawaii’s plant life.
Amazing experience! The Kona Cloud Forest is beautiful and our guide was fantastic — very knowledgeable, passionate, and full of interesting information. We learned so much and really enjoyed the whole visit. Highly recommended!
It’s an incredible experience to enjoy the nature of Hawaii like no where else. Not only that, it’s great opportunity to take a break from the heat of the beach, as temperatures can be 10-15 degrees cooler just a few minutes up the mountain. Heather was such a sweet guide. Her knowledge and kindness really made it a pleasure.
A wholesome experience with amazing narrative and storytelling! Loved it !
We had a great time with Sierra. Learning about her family’s history with the land, the forest, and the many specifies of trees, and birds. It was a lovely break from the Kona heat and also a much needed time for our teens to disconnect from devices, and reconnect with nature. Our whole family enjoyed this experience and we highly recommend it for everyone. Hope to back one day for their retreat! Thanks Sierra and Heather ❤️❤️❤️
We loved this tour! Really unique space in terms of both its concept and the biodiversity. Heather was a fantastic tour guide, very friendly, informative, and eager to answer our questions. If the yoga and wellness aspects are not your jam (they were not ours), just book the forest experience. Some other reviewers complained about the wellness aspects, but that sounds like they booked they wrong tour for their personal interests. It is not a difficult hike - well paced and many stops. But it is somewhat rugged terrain, navigating hills, roots, etc. But overall we felt this was a great experience for our first visit to the Big Island!
Unique experience in Kona. We learned so much about the botany of the forest and it was a very cool experience. Truly surrounded by forest.
This is more of a yoga/hippie retreat. I’m an ecology lover myself which is what drew me to Hawaii but this didn’t really do it for me. I would highly recommend if you have time to just go to the botanical gardens in Hilo. I opted for this instead because I was staying on the Kona side of the island, but I definitely regretted it. It was nice, but just not what I was looking for. It was very peaceful with lots of diversity but it just wasn’t for me.
Very informative walk through a sanctuary that has been developing in ver 40 years with the same family. Nice to see a forest re-developing at natural pace
Great experience at the Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary! From our guide Drew, we learned a lot about their family and community-based restoration process of the forest and many plants (yes we walked around the trees in the tour photo and touched the rainbow eucalyptus trees) and animals (honeycreepers and others). Most importantly, we learned that trees are essential components of the cloud formation and frequent rains on this part of the island. It takes a lot of time and effort to protect the environment, including removing invasive species. Their efforts are entirely funded by these tours, so I'd encourage people to support them by visiting! Last but not least, for dog lovers, a cute puppy (pictured) joined our tour and was having such a great time running around
Took the longer tour today and it was fantastic. Probably the best tour of any kind I have ever taken. Sierra, our guide, taught me so much about the plants and trees and history of the sanctuary. If you have a chance, definitely go! You won't regret it!
Unforgettable experience in Hawaii! Not to be missed! Followed by the Sound bowl experience was magical!
This was such an amazing experience. Our guide Siena was so knowledgeable and provided a very informative tour. So relaxing to be in nature, the cooler weather was a bonus.
Hands down the best experience on the island for nature lovers! Second time doing it, and this time got the sound bath add on. The forest is beautiful, you learn about the integrated and diverse forest. How a forest needs diversity in order to promote growth and health. I always love seeing how nothing ever goes to waste in nature. The guides are knowledgeable, I learn something new each time! I really loved hearing about the restoration of the cloud forest as well as understanding all the medicinal plants that are there. The sound bath was also nice because you get a chance to meditate, relax and listen to the sounds of nature accented by the gong and flutes of the sound bath. Meditation can really help you reset and relax. Everyone should try a little nature therapy in the cloud forest followed by meditation to drain out any residue from the chaos that can bombard your senses every day. Loved the sanctuary and look forward to coming back!
Drew was an excellent guide. Such passion for his mission. He is like the cloud forest whisperer. The cloud forest was a breath of fresh air...literally!
Terrific experience. Something I have only enjoyed in St Lucia, but this was much more inclusive and informative. It’s clear the family has a sincere passion for this. I would encourage any visitors to the island to experience this.
My family of 5 went here (3 teenagers) and everyone learned something new or discovered something cool along the way. Sierra was our guide and she was fabulous!
This was a great tour through the cloud forest. Our guide was very knowledgeable and very interactive, encouraging questions and immersing yourself in the forest. The hike is not a long distance and the pace is leisurely, but there are some short slightly steep sections - the most challenging one can be bypassed. I gave it 5 stars, our whole family enjoyed it. If you forget to put on mosquito repellent they have some there.
This was definitely a unique and magic place. What I found interesting is that it wasn't as much a Hawaiian forest so much as a carefully curated global forest. Since their mission is restoration, they needed some things to grow fast to prove a canopy for some native Jungle species. It's fair to say no place on earth is exactly like this.
A very peaceful and educational experience. My whole family enjoyed being in the cloud forest and learning about the flora. Our guide, Heather Rose, was also wonderful at telling stories and sharing Hawaiian history and culture. Highly recommend!
A lovely easy (there are a lot of tree roots to step over) saunter through this beautiful sanctuary is just what is needed to take a deep breath and slow down for a couple hours while enjoying your fabulous vacation here on Hawaii. Our guide was very attentive and knowledgeable sharing the history of the area, information about many plant species and the formation of the forest. So many lovely trees, plants and flowers! The clouds hanging in the tree tops are a special sighting and you probably will get a little sprinkle. A lovely afternoon overall!
The Kona Cloud Forest 2 1/2 hour tour was wonderful. It was a terrific opportunity to decompress and enjoy a sense of connection with the land and with each other. The cloud forest is enchanting and we enjoyed learning more about it. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic and everyone associated with the sanctuary was friendly and helpful. We highly recommend this excursion.
wonderful tour - very peaceful. Highly recommend the sound bath tour as well - it was mind blowing!
Heather was great, passionate about her job. If you like jungle and variety and nature, its a lof of fun and interesting facts. Very peaceful stroll through tons of variety of plants and birds!
This was the second time I went on this tour. The guides are extremely knowledgeable about the forest. Not only do you get to experience the natural beauty of the forest, but the guide makes it an educational experience as well. I really appreciate that.
This is an amazing reforestation project and guided by Heather, we learned so much about the history and the plant life. Definitely worth a visit if you are Kona!
A must do experience while in Kona! Try the tea and banana bread and view a beautiful rainbow eucalyptus.
This was just such an incredible experience! We did the 2.5 hour tour and then the sound bath meditation after. The tour was so much more than just a explanation of the vegetation and wildlife. We learned a lot about that and it was really interesting, but it was also a very welcome spiritual experience. Our guide Teryn was so incredible at explaining what things were, but also what they are important and how everything is connected. We all really enjoyed her :) The sound bath was so relaxing and in such a unique venue. Would highly recommend both activities. We just loved supporting a local business that is doing so many great things for the environment and local community.
The entire 2.5 hours felt short when you’re surrounded by so much beauty. Sierra was our guide and she is so knowledgeable and part of the family that works to maintain the cloud forest. She’s a legend. If you love nature and learning this is a can’t miss activity.
This is exactly what we were looking for. An educational/eco experience. This is not a hike nor strenuous. Go if you appreciate nature and want to learn about Hawaii’s plant life.
This tour was an amazing Forest Bathing experience. Our guide, Teryn, was very knowledgeable and shared a wealth of information. We had time for exploring and space for being with the forest. Many varieties of plants and trees I have not experienced before. The small crowd size made it easy to enjoy the space and each other. Staff was welcoming and inviting.
