Extremely knowledgeable captain and guide. Our all female crew was so engaging and did a fantastic job explaining to us the Captain Cook story and pointing out anll of the incredible sea life. Our family of four took the 7am tour. It was absolutely exceptional! Will definitely be back for another excursion.

BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!! My boyfriend and I went out for the 7 am tour (HIGHLY recommend the early slot, we were literally the only people out on the water!!) with Hana and Meredith who were absolutely AMAZING!! Since we got out before all the other tours, we saw an eagle ray, a Galapagos shark, two octopi, AND A SEA TURYLE!! It was quite literally the most glorious day of my life and Hana and Meredith could not have been better guides. If/when we come back, we will most definitely be booking w Kona again!!🌸☀️💕
We really enjoyed this trip! As long as the weather is reasonable, it's a can't miss adventure and a great way to spend a day on the Big Island. The diving was outstanding (there was a LOT of fish), the bay was very scenic, and we liked the historical angle too. The captain and mate did an excellent job making everyone feel welcome and were very well informed on local geography, history and culture. Bedside the crew, there were only four of us so there was plenty of room to move around. Seating was comfortable. An added bonus was a nice prepared lunch after snorkeling. with fresh pineapple and sandwiches. I don't think you'd be disappointed with this tour.
We chartered a Private Snorkeling Tour with Kona Ocean Adventures. We had a great day with Captain Scott and Kate. On the way to the snorkeling we encountered a pod of Pilot Whales, we thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with them for a while! Snorkeling was great. They provided the best snorkeling gear we had ever used. Snacks and drinks were waiting for us when we got back onboard. Scott and Kate were great hosts- f careful, fun and informative!
Scotty and Mac were AMAZING!!! We signed up for snorkeling and ended up swimming with pilot whales and sharks! 10/10 would recommend!!! This was the highlight of our trip - they were awesome.
This was a really great snorkel tour to Captain Cook. Our boat captain Hana and our guide Hailey were both outstanding. Although i did not book a private tour, our party of 4 were the only ones on the boat. It was spacious and comfortable. The weather was overcast but Hana and Hailey made up for the dreary weather. They were both fun and personable and made sure we were comfortable, safe and had a great time. Hana managed to find us a pod of dolphins and we saw some fun jumping action. She also took us into a gorgeous cove and pointed out some fun facts along the coastline. Hailey was a perfect host and guide in and out of the water. Once at Captain Cook she kept an eye on all of us and pointed out interesting sea creatures. She took great video of an eel and octopus. On the boat she made a great spread of fruit and appetizers. We also had an assortment of snacks and drinks. And of course Captain Cook is a real prime snorkel area. It was a great day and highly recommend this company.
Kona Adventures was perfect for our Captain Cook snorkel! We had new to experienced snorkelers with us, and Katie and Hana provided individualized support while keeping an eye on everyone and the amazing sea life. Danny and Scott, our captains, ensured we had safe travels and good food - and shared a few stories along the way! All-in-all, KOA is the way to go!!
We caught a boat with Kate and Scott to Captain Cook’s Island for a snorkeling adventure. They were awesome providing Hawaiian details and stories on the way to Cook’s island. They stopped and allowed us to watch jumping dolphins. Once we arrived at Cook’s island for snorkeling they made the adventure very easy and were super accommodating for our larger and older group. We returned to the boat at different times and they were never flustered. After getting back on the boat, the feast was on! Fruit, sandwiches, drinks, chips and salsa and more! It was lovely! This was a great trip and we’d definitely book again!
Simply put, everything was amazing. Joe, Danny, and Nick were attentive, funny and took us to two great spots for our snorkeling adventure. We did the fish grotto and K-Bay. Joe did great job helping my wife get comfortable back in the water after a bad experience (different place) a few years ago. The adventure is a small group which allows for a much more personalized approach. We loved everything about our day and we will be back again.
Not enough can be said about how incredible the experience with KOA has been, and continues to be every time our family books with them. We highly recommend the morning snorkel adventure to Captain Cook to beat the rush of tourists looking to snorkel. Hana and Justin treated my family like their own, helping the little ones and making sure everyone had a wonderful experience. I look forward to many trips on the big island with KOA. You won't go wrong.
Today we had an extraordinary adventure with Captain Troy and First Mate Jessie. They are so knowlegeable of the marine life along the coast and pointed out turtles, spinner dolphins, bottlenose dolphins and a few humpback whales as we headed to the coral reef. They treated us to sounds of a male humpback whale singing deep under the water with an onboard device (The Honey Tone). We enjoyed a leisurely time snorkeling the reef and saw so many of Hawaii’s colorful fish, along with a moray eel. After refreshments on the boat, Captain Troy told us about Captain Cook’s landing in the area we had snorkeled. Back in the open water, he spotted a whale shark and we all had the chance to swim with this magnificent creature. We will never forget this trip!! Highly recommend it ❤️👍🏼!
Captain Troy and First Mate Sean were SPECTACULAR guides! What a perfect and amazing trip. We got to K-Bay before any of the other boats and had over an hour of the bay to ourselves. Then, we swam with some mantas! Whales, dolphins, turtles...yup, saw all of them. The boat is wonderful, comfy, fast, and has shade. They dropped a microphone into the water and we listened to whale songs. There aren't enough words to describe that... just go. You'll see.
We booked this boat for a private charter for our family of 11 in order to spread my dad's ashes at sea. Troy and Alexis went above and beyond and made it a beautiful experience for us. Troy explained the area outside of the bay translated to "pathway to the gods" which felt perfect; Alexis very thoughtfully brought lots of Hawaiian flowers and petals for us to throw into the sea with the ashes. It was a sad thing to have to do but Troy and Alexis guided us along and made it a beautiful experience for all of us. After that we snorkeled in the beautiful bay, even my 80-year-old mom snorkeled with us! Once back on the boat and headed back to the harbor, we were joined by some dolphins which made it a perfect day. Thanks Troy and Alexis!!
We had an amazing day of snorkeling with Troy and Sophie. We saw dolphins on our way to Kealakekua Bay which was a special treat. The snorkeling was first rate- lots of different fish to see. Troy and Sophie told us interesting things about the island and kept us entertained all morning. On the way way back we stopped to jump out of the boat to see manta rays, which was a great added bonus. We could not have asked for a more perfect day of snorkeling. Our original snorkel trip with another company was cancelled last minute and fortunately we were able to schedule with Kona Ocean Adventure. We loved this trip so much we booked a night manta ray trip too.
You have to snorkel with this crew! We were the first boat to get to the bay and we had it all to ourselves before it got packed. Amazing experience. Sean and Captain Bryan were so knowledgeable and kind. They had towels, snacks and drinks. At the end of the tour, they give you lavender soaked towel to wipe off the salt from the trip! Would definitely snorkel with them again!
We've been coming to the Big Island for years. It has become important to us to be respectful of this wonderous place and the lovely people who live here. We've tried several different tour providers and most were very good. That being said we will never use anyone but Kona Ocean Adventures from now on. The crew are delightful, professional, and kind. The first tour we took was excellent and Bryant was knowledgeable but far from boring. Jessica was always standing by to help with a smile. This kind of service alone would make me a fan... but wait! There's more! We also booked a sunset cruise for my wife's birthday... I did so secretly and in my haste to not be caught I accidently booked it twice. The next day... I received a call from Brennan... who was just asking if I meant to. I did not... and would have never known had he not called. He refunded the second private sunset cruise... and then.. on the day of the cruise it was raining (which doesn't happen often but it did this day) Brennan called and said they didn't think there would be a good sunset and would we like to move it to the next day.... at no charge............... that's right... They called! These people totally get customer service... Six Green Circles!
AMAZING DAY!! 13 of my family members flew in and they took the BEST care of us! Troy and Hana were AMAZING! We had a 4 year old with us, by the end of the day not only did they teach him to snorkel…. He was jumping off of the boat by himself!! Many Mahalos to Laure, Danny,Troy, and,Hana! We can’t wait to do it again!!
We had an amazing trip with our snorkling group! The spinner dolphins were so fun to watch and the guides were able to get us in the water to view them safely. The snorkling at Captain Cook was breathtaking and they gave us freedom to explore. They kept an eye out for everyone in the water. I also enjoyed the ride along the island coast. The sparkling water and lava rock is an amazing sight. We also saw some sea turtles before we even left the marina!
We had an amazing time! Justin was our captain and Sophie was his crew. They took excellent care of our family and made sure we were always comfortable and enjoyed the boat ride. The snorkeling was incredible - so many fish to see. Exceptional place to snorkel. They hosted lunch and fresh pineapple which was delicious. Sophie took excellent care of my daughter (age 8) who was afraid to get in the water once we got there. Lori was great too with responding to emails and answering all of our questions in advance. Thanks for a great time!
Unfortunately, this company cancelled on us 3 days before our Captain Cook tour this week, which we were most excited about because of the reviews. Laurie said there was a problem with the boat, but was unable to specify what the problem was, only that we were the only 2 people booked on the trip. So that's a bit suspicious. She offered us a dolphin watching trip, which was not comparable. Because of the late notice we haven't been able to book any openings with anyone else, so it's a huge disappointment. There's supposed to be an element of trust when you book and prepay, that the trip is confirmed. My advice to this company, is next time, come up with a solution with another tour group and at least help the customer book something else that's comparable. We had super high hopes for this place because of the reviews, so maybe that made the disappointment bigger.
Captain Alicia and first mate Jesse were terrific- knowledgeable on local history... very friendly and helpful.. we are 70 yrs old and They provided great assistance and Jesse actually snorkeled with us showing us a ref white tip shark
this snorkel adventure was awesome! troy and alisha were so helpful and knew a whole lot about the island! the lunch was delicious- it was a turkey croissant sandwich with grapes, hummus and some assorted nuts. overall the staff was amazing and we would love to do more adventures with them!
The capt cook snorkel trip has fantastic marine life like no other. The small motor boat was the perfect size to ensure a speedy trip yet not feel too many waves and wakes. Our guides were young and energetic. They were very accommodating and capable and took care of every need. Food snacks were decent but we didn’t expect much in that regard. It even rained and we had an amazing experience!!
Captain Momi was awesome today. She dropped us in dolphin pods 4 times and allowed us to be on dolphin pods 15 minutes out of harbor. After swimming with wild dolphins in their habitat we were taken to a snorkeling shore where fish, octopus's’ and reef sharks were seen. Snacks and water and lunch was plentiful and crew was extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely suggest this to anyone visiting the area who wants a fantastic day on the water with an incredibly accommodating crew.
Great time snorkeling in afternoon, and even spotted dolphins swimming right next to our boat!!! Wonderful photos of bottle nose & spinner dolphins, so playful, came right up yo boat & led out front. Saw plenty of fish and caves up close. Great guides. Fun & informative!
We went out with KOA yesterday & had one of the most memorable experiences!! Troy and Captain Leif were FANTASTIC! Fun, friendly, and super passionate about the ocean. They ensured we had a great time. There was only another party of one with my husband and I so it made the whole experience much more individualised. Absolutely loved it!! We’re now going back to do the Manta Ray night with KOA! Highly recommend! 😁🙌🏽🤗
My husband and our two children ages 11 and 13 went July 5th with Momi was wonderful in the water with the kids!!
