Loved this! Definitely feels like a hidden gem, the day we went there was only one other pair of kayakers so it was like we had the whole river to ourselves! There’s a fun swing you can use but we loved the beach at the end of the river. Would recommend and it’s a family-run business which is awesome!
Beautiful property and the Family was so kind and helpful! Best thing we did on our trip hands down! can’t reccomend enough if you love to be fully immersed in nature
Lovely local, family-owned kayaking on a super calm river. You also get the opportunity to kayak to the bay and swim around for a while. It really is a hidden gem. I went with 3 other people and they had two double kayaks for us. If you want to get in touch with nature, this is a great opportunity for that. Everything about it makes it so worth it. I would highly recommend building a day around doing this, it was the highlight of my trip!
Family-owned business launching kayaks on a pristine, picturesque river off of the Kahana Bay. Super easy kayak, independent activity, and great location. Such a hidden gem and would recommend to anyone visiting the island: support local family businesses vs. the large enterprises on Oahu, so much good stuff off of the beaten Hilton / Bonvoy path!!!
Outstanding! We were truly amazed by this hidden gem that’s been in the family for over 100 years. You can really feel and appreciate the history, it makes the experience so special. And they have the absolute cutest dog, which was such a sweet bonus. We’ll definitely be back!
I almost hate to let the secret out, but this is a wonderful self guided kayaking with no dragging your kayak across streets and a deep beach like the company Kailua. Your dock is right in the river. There are only a few kayaks allowed a day and you paddle up with bird song. When you turn around you go out into the ocean. There is a huge reef so it’s flat calm waters. There is also a huge beach that usually only has a dozen or less people on it. The family that runs this is absolutely the warmest kindest people you’ll meet while you’re on the island. thank you for offering us a wonderful afternoon experience!
We had a great time! This is a family-run business with a wonderful family. Daughter said to give it 10 Stars! We were able to paddle a ways inland and enjoy rope swings. Then we paddled out into the bay. Can’t recommend this tour enough. You won’t be sorry!
It was a beautiful experience. We paddled up the river as far as we could the turned around and went to the beach and spent some time out there in the ocean. The people who run it were wonderful and helpful.
Shame on Kahana Adventures for making us feel guilty over nothing today, and causing us to turn around and not go enjoy the river. Seriously, they have an attitude problem. They could have handled our interaction so differently, with positivity and kindness, but they chose guilt and nastiness. I hope they treat others better than they treated us today. I hope karma comes back to bite them 10x. We were definitely late, but we had no service and couldn't call ahead. They need to change their attitude. Avoid these jerks.
We booked the kayak tour with Kahana Adventures, and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Oahu. The whole process was super easy, and Jay was kind, helpful, and made us feel totally prepared to head out on our own. The kayak and gear were in great condition, and the instructions were clear and simple. Once we got on the water, it was just beautiful—peaceful surroundings, lush mountains, and a real sense of calm. Highly recommend Kahana Adventures to anyone looking for a fun and peaceful way to explore this beautiful part of the island!
This was a wonder kayak trip up the river and into the ocean. What a beautiful river. The equipment was newer and worked great. Lena was amazing. She is so friendly and helpful. Would definitely come here again
Beautiful and serene setting. This has become my new favorite place to kayak. We started out kayaking toward the mountains and the views were just breathtaking. We went as far as we could go without getting stuck and then made the trek back toward the sea, with a stop on the shore to rest and enjoy the views. The owners were friendly and kind. Would definitely do this again and have recommended this adventure to many! Mahalo!
Kahana Adventures was fantastic from the moment we arrived. They are friendly and professional and we became ohana immediately.
This adventure was extremely relaxing and the scenery on this kayak trip was like a trip into a tropical wonderland!! The water was calm going up the river making paddling easy and peaceful. The vegetation was abundant and full of color. Paddling out into the ocean was a little more work but the beach was a fun place to stop and view the beauty of Hawaii. Best of all, the staff was the most friendly on the Island and was a pleasure to spend some time chatting with them!! This is a must do while on Oahu for sure!!
Calm water, easy to maneuver, beautiful scenery and option to kayak in the bay in the ocean. There is a swing and rope swing along the way if you want to stop and have a little fun:) We also beached our kayak and enjoyed waking along the secluded beach on the bay. Very nice family run operation. They were great hosts!!
Local family owned. Very amazing experience. I have always wanted to paddle out into that bay and it was everything I had hoped.
The family who run this were so helpful. They are so knowledgeable of the area and conservation is most important to them. So many beautiful sights to see.
We were looking to do something a little bit different and adventurous, that wasn't ATVing (although we did that too). This really worked out far better than I had expected. We've crossed over this particular river so many times and never really thought to stop and explore. The owner (his family has been on the land for many generations) is super hospitable, accommodating, and provided everything you'd possibly need. We rented the 2-person kayak, but he also made available waterproof phone cases, bug spray, and life vests. An hour was plenty to go up and down the river and play on the rope swings. I'm not sure how far you could actually get, but it does get a bit narrow and tough with all the overgrowth a bit after the swings. I do think the river scenery was nicer than the river at Haleiwa, but it's probably not more than an hour. The really nice part of the day is the river empties into the bay and boy that was really, really nice. The water was calm, very blue, warm, and pretty shallow pretty far out. For our first attempt at ocean kayaking, it was very serene. There was only one other couple in our time slot and so we mostly had the river and bay to ourselves. To cap off the morning, we were treated to some shave ice and had a great time talking to the owner and the other couple. One word of warning though, the river is pretty murky and deep in places, so be sure not to drop anything like I did with my sunglasses. I really liked those sunglasses too, I just watched it slowly sink. Anyhow, book this activity, it's definitely worth it and reasonable.
This was a fantastic find! We stumbled upon it and are so thankful that we did. We rented a double kayak and had a wonderful time exploring the river and then heading to the beach for a little time out there. So peaceful! I hope people discover this place and give them business, but I also hope everyone keeps the peace because it's beautiful.
It was the best experience in Hawaii and the owners were so warm and cordial. The experience was peaceful and tranquil. 100% recommend if you are in Honolulu and want to do some kayaking.
My husband and I had a wonderful time! We booked this last minute and it was our favorite excursion so far!
We had the most amazing experience. We were running a little late (which is usual for us with a 10 month old), and they were so welcoming and stress-free! She told us to take our time and to drive safe. When we got there, their family took us in and made us feel like a part of theirs. The river was absolutely beautiful, and we really enjoyed going out towards the bay. We pulled the kayak up on the beach and let the baby play in the sand for an hour or so, then headed back. They were so beyond helpful with getting into and out of the kayak, giving us tips of the river, and just overall making us feel so welcome! It has been by far the best experience we’ve had in Hawaii!
It was lovely. It’s a family owned company and the family is very sweet and helpful. Laid back vibes.
Amazing time kayaking in the river and out in the bay. It was super easy to get started, and we enjoyed our time kayaking. We got a 2-person kayak. We stopped for a little while at the rope swing in the river. A ton of great views along the way. A great value too compared to some other kayak rental and tour places. Would definitely recommend and do it again if/when we return.
What an amazing adventure. Family run business and run very well. Great equipment, great views. Perfect for beginners and experienced kayakers. The Bay they have created is amazing and beautiful. The owners have thought of everything.
The setting was nice for a kayak trip. Quiet and secluded. The river itself, I thought was only about 1 hour's worth. When going back and meeting the ocean, we got out and looked at the fish pond (lots of crabs). We did not go out onto the ocean for a paddle though - and this would have used up the other portion of the 3 hour rental if we had been interested. The river was very narrow at parts and hard to manage the double kayak. I'd suggest individuals. Owner was very nice.
This trip has been the highlight of our time in Oahu. The drive to the property was great and easy. It was very private with no one else on the river and the family were all so kind and welcoming. I have already recommended this trip to friends and family that will be in Oahu in the future and will be making this a regular thing every time we visit!
This was such a fun activity! A great way to see the natural beauty of the island, not just the beach but the river as well! Lean was amazing to work with, she was so kind and helpful. Overall, an amazing experience and a great way to support local!
What a top notch and memory experience. Leena makes you feel right at home—literally. You pick your kayak up from her house and parking lot. The family operation is filled with wonderful hospitality and great stories. The river portion of the kayaking is very protected and calm, mostly narrow and shallow. Incredible rainforest/jungle-like scenery. It’s not a long paddle, but we spent an hour or so on the river paddling leisurely. The ocean portion wasn’t practical when we went as it was really windy, but it was still a nice view. Highly recommend the experience and supporting a local family business.
This is a relaxing and independent experience far from the crowded tourist attractions. It is a family run business that supports the upkeep of the very river you kayak on and you can feel good about supporting it!
Highly Recommend!! It was the best time in Hawaii. Everything was perfect including the host and the coconut juice after the activity.
totally awesome one of our great experiences on the island. we rented kayaks as we have kayaks it was similar to one of the places we kayak close to home only tropical. talked to a couple of the locals who were out on the river crabbing from their kayak. went down to the bay and played in the small surf, it was fun
This was my first time kayaking on island & the experience couldn’t have been better! The family was soooo sweet & their dog was so cute. We got FRESH SWEET coconut water after the trip. Will definitely be back & I recommend ❤️
Awesome location, great family activity! The owner was an absolute gem. We would highly recommend this adventure to anyone visiting the island.
Wow, wonderful, tremendous, extraordinary! This kayak adventure down the Kahana river and into the ocean was all those words and more. We were greeted with the true aloha spirit ❤️ This family owned business was truly kind, thoughtful and personable. We rented two single kayaks and make sure you get the phone case because you’ll want to take pictures. We made out kayak trip up the Kahana river which was calm and surrounded by lush green jungle. There’s a swing on a tree by the river if one should want to take a dip and cool off. This was a leisurely paddle which took us about an hour with stops to enjoy the scenery until nature told us to turn around (trees in the river). We then back tracked towards the ocean. You’re surrounded by beautiful mountains and jungle until you reach the ocean. The beauty of the view was extraordinary and my camera could not to it justice. We then made our way back to the dock. The whole experience lasted 3 hours with many stops to bask in Hawaii’s sunshine and beauty. During this whole adventure, we did not come in contact with anyone on the river which made it such an intimate experience. We were greeted by the owners and their adorable dogs 🥰. They gifted us refreshing iced coconut drinks they grown on the property. While we finished the delicious coconut water, we chatted and enjoyed their company. This family has lived on this land for generations and it was wonderful to support a local family owned business. I will be doing this again with any family member that comes to visit me on Oahu because it was that amazing of an experience
What a fun excursion! My husband and I were in Honolulu for a conference, and decided to get out of the busy city and experience some nature. We rented a 2 person Kayak for 3 hours, paddled up the river as far as we could go, then turned around and paddled to the bay. It was a cloudy, windy day so we didn't go in the water, but there were a few places with ropes swings along the river. The river was sheltered from the wind, which we appreciated. The was bay was beautiful, and not at all crowded. The waves were a little choppy so we didn't go far in the kayak. We beached it and wandered around on foot- the bay is very shallow and we walked quite aways out. The 3 hour length was just about perfect- we returned a little early since it started raining. The owner was very nice and accomodating- she took photos for us, and had a cold coconut waiting when we returned. We were able to change into dry clothes using the bathroom. Highly recommend!!
This was a top highlight of our trip to Oahu! Booking was so easy, and right when we got there everything was set up and ready for us to start on our adventure. The host was so welcoming and helpful. The river was incredibly beautiful and easy to kayak on. As described, it's very secluded and away from the crowds. We only passed a couple other kayakers while we were on the river. There's some fun rope swings and places to explore as well. It was kind of windy when we were visiting, but the river was calm and sheltered from the wind. I would HIGHLY recommend booking this experience!
We enjoyed kayaking from 9:00-12:00. The location was easy to find and there was parking and a nice restroom available. Our double kayak was in good condition. We forgot to ask for life jackets but we saw that some people had them. The river is very short - maybe a mile and a half total. We ventured a little to the ocean but it was pretty windy that day so we stayed close to shore and then took a break at the beach and went for a short walk. We still had time so we did the length of the river again. We enjoyed the morning and would recommend the company.
In our couple of weeks exploring the nooks and crannies of NE Oahu this was one of our favorites. Kahana bay is gorgeous and overlooked. This is a real generational family effort and it's important to support real Hawaiians working to rehabilitate and care for their ancestral land. The river is easy and tightens to a true jungle paddle the farther up you go. Great sand bars on the way out to the bay, just be careful to respect the heritage fish pond on the right hand side (rock wall, don't trespass, mind the signs). Mahalo Kahana Adventures family!
Super friendly. Nice new equipment. Stunning scenery. Had the river to ourselves. Definitely paddle out to where the river meets the sea. Would recommend.
We had a blast! Lena and her family were so kind and this place is utterly beautiful. We kayaked through what felt like Jurassic Park and ended out in the ocean. Truly the best part of our trip!
Spontaneous stop while driving around the Island. One of the best experiences of the trip. We saw a different part of Hawaii you don’t normally think about when booking your trip, the team running the shop was so friendly and welcoming, and the trip down the river was so much fun. After experiencing the calmness of the river, turn the boat around and paddle out to the ocean. You won’t regret it. Thank you for having us!
Simply the sweetest Hawaiian lifestyle and nature oriented gentle adventure. Lena and her family are a treasure.
We drove over from Wikiki, easy to find. They set you up with a kayak and away you go. It is a spring and rain water fed river very easy to paddle up stream, great for the whole family, very serene. On the way back we passed the boat launch and head to Kahana bay, there is a sand bar that you walk out on, or hang at the beach, great to take a lunch there the river water is a deeper. A great way to spend 3 hours. You also get a coconut drink at the end!
Company owners were very genuine and out going. Kayaks were in great condition and they had everything you need to have a fun experience including dry bags, natural bug spray and fresh coconut water for after the adventure. The Kahana River was a perfect place to spend a few hours on the kayak. Was super happy they had double kayaks so the whole family could go in only two. Would definitely go back and recommend to a friend.
Beautiful river kayak for our group of 5. Enjoyed the rope swing and beautiful Mountain View’s ans well and the rainforest vegetation along the route. iced coconut at the end was so refreshing. Thanks for allowing us to kayak up the beautiful kahana river. We enjoyed swimming the beach at kahana bay as well.
One of the best choices I made while on Oahu was to book this activity. The owner was amazingly kind and friendly and while the river was not an especially long trip, it was still serene and lovely; additionally, being able to kayak out onto the bay was beautiful.
We had fun kayaking down the peaceful river. This is a local family that runs this and they are very nice and helpful! We really enjoyed talking to them after our adventure!
Great adventure, staff so friendly and accommodating. Kayaking up the river and back to the ocean was filled with breath taking views. Unbelievable experience. To top it off our hostess presented us with refreshing cold coconut milk when we returned! Great day!
