Eric is the best guide and we had a great time. We saw three sea turtles. We learned a lot and made great memories.

Coconut Island, also known as Moku Ola, which literally means “island of life” in the Hawaiian language, used to be a site of an ancient temple dedicated to healing. During the olden times, the island's spring waters were known to cure all sorts of ailments. The island is also known as a place of refuge for ancient Hawaiians who broke the law. All they have to do was swim to the island without getting caught by the warriors chasing them then they will be pardoned for whatever crime they had committed.
Resting along Banyan Drive, in historic downtown Hilo, you will find the beautiful Lili’uokalani Gardens, the largest, authentic Edo-style ornamental garden outside of Japan. Queen Liliuokalani, donated the original five acres of land to create a public park in 1907. This was increased to seventeen acres by the Legislative Committee concerned with management of public lands in November 1917. Named for Hawaii’s last ruling monarch, Queen Lili’uokalani, the garden opened in 1919 and was styled as a tribute to the first Japanese immigrants to the Big Island who helped build it’s agricultural history starting in 1868.

Great tour. It was just the two of us with our guide. He was informative and made our tour extremely memorable snd personal.
I enjoyed my kayaking experience with Chad and Maggie! The location was a quick taxi ride from the cruise port. The staff/guides were very friendly and accommodating, willing to provide a jacket since it was rainy (I had my own poncho so I didn't need it). Weather conditions including wind made it a challenging paddle, but we ventured as far as the opening to Hilo Bay and Chad shared lots of local history along the way. He also took lots of pics that he sent me afterwards, which I greatly appreciated. Maggie provided complimentary juice and chips after the paddle, and you can hose down and rinse off the salt water. Great experience with great people that I highly recommend!
The guided tour made it so worthwhile. The scenery was amazing and so educational. We learned so much about the island and the people who live on it. The guide was so patient with our inexperienced family members.
Worst customer service. Save yourself time and money and don't use this company. We paid for the kayak excursion and didn't end up going because it rained so hard. The weather forecast was 34% chance of rain but it actually rains pretty heavy all day. We thought we would wait it out in hopes of even a drizzle but that didn't happen. They were not willing to work with us despite not even locals but out in the water. We were disappointed we lost our due to their policy of rain or shine. Kona side has very reasonably priced kayaking tours. Hawaii is a beautiful place to visit with friendly people so I'm not sure what happened with this one.
We really enjoyed our guide, who is a native Hawaiian. He told us about the bay, the tsunamis that hit the area over the years and showed us the depth of the tsunamis that were marked on the palm tree on the island. We are an older couple and he was very patient and helpful as we awkwardly got in and out of the kayak!
Relatively easy and fun. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. He truly made the outing memorable for us.
Such a fun trip! I loved my guide Aulki - he was so kind and patient. I was the only person signed up but he still did the tour with me. I would have been so bummed if it had gotten canceled, so that was very kind he still took me out! The water was pretty calm and it was a beautiful day!! I am still a novice kayaker so this was the perfect experience for me. I highly recommend booking with this company!!
Isaiah was a great guide for this fun excursion! He was friendly and helpful and made the afternoon lots of fun. Going out to Coconut Island on a Saturday really gave this out-of-town visitor a nice perspective of what Hilo daily life is all about.
Very informative and I learned a lot! Kayaked to some beautiful spots and got to learn the history behind them. Great tour!
It was an enjoyable morning workout for the 2 of us as beginner kayakers. The time sent on the water very peaceful. All in all a great experience.
My husband and I did this excursion while in town with a Hawaiian island to island cruise. I booked the tour without going through the cruise line and I couldn’t be happier. Our guide, Morgan, was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. After a few minutes I felt like part of his family. I truly enjoyed every minute and I’d do it again in a heartbeat!
We just got back from the most amazing kayak adventure out to Coconut Island our personal guide Morgan made us feel right at home and we became instant friends. He is an extra mile type guy who did everything he could help us have a great adventure. My wife and I had always wanted to kayak in the ocean And I had always wanted to jump off a tall rock and he helped the stew both of those. It felt like by the time we got done that we were family with Morgan and he even went the extra mile and gave us a ride in the shuttle back to our cruise ship. If I could give this 10 stars I would I would highly recommend booking this kayak trip and specifically request Morgan as your trip guide you will not regret it.
My 15 yo son loved this rour. I asked him how he would rate his guide and he said 11/10. Thanks for wonderful memories that I'm sure he will think of often. Beautiful day, beautiful location. 🤩
I would not recommend this tour. We had to pull our own kayak across the street to the water. You paddle to the island, relax and/or swim and then paddle back to their facility. I NEVER had to haul my own equipment on a tour especially when they charge over $100 per person.
There were turtles feeding on the rocks when we got in the kayaks and again when we returned. It would have been nice if the kayaks were waiting for us on the shore rather than wheeling them down the block. Our guide was excellent and overall we had a great time.
It poured rain and that made it even more fun! Definitely recommend! Easy for the whole family. We saw a sea turtle too!
A great tour that we really enjoyed. It included a nice packed lunch. Jake was excellent and made it a really special day. Highly recommended.
We booked a 7 AM kayaking tour and went out on the water with Adam and 3 other guests. We met at the store and drove down the street together to the waterfront, where Adam unloaded and set up the one-person kayaks. One member of our group hadn't every kayaked before, and Adam was helpful in teaching him how to navigate the boat. We paddled around a small peninsula, about three quarters of a mile, and stopped at Coconut Island, where we got out to have some water and snacks. There is an old Navy diving platform on Coconut Island, and Adam helped those of us who wanted to jump to get up to the top. The trip there and back was very relaxing. Everyone moved at a relaxed pace and enjoyed the beautiful scenery around us featuring views of the open ocean, early morning sun through clouds, and a unobstructed view of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea. Adam was friendly and had great stories about life on the island, and was very attentive, checking in on guests in groups to make sure everyone was having a good time. This was a beautiful way to start the day!
This was a great experience! As one might expect in Hilo, it rained. It did not damper our experience. Devon was an excellent guide, attentive to the varying levels of kayaking experience of the group. He made everyone feel welcomed, had a wealth of knowledge of the area and its history, and a great sense of humor. Be prepared to kayak in different weather conditions, this Hilo but it is well worth it. We had a great time!
With all the choices of activities I would skip this one. There was no instruction which was fine for those of us who were experienced but there were people who’d never kayaked and it was painful for them and painful to watch. We had to wheel our kayaks to and from the drop point and it was not “just across the street. The guide was a nice guy but offered little beyond answering questions. There was no “longest River”.
Fantastic kayak experience with Adam! Easy pick up and getting to the park. We enjoyed an easy paddle along the coast and into the ice pool area where we saw turtles and fish and birds. There were snacks and drinks if we wanted and lovely conversation. Would definitely recommend-rain or shine!
Great little excursion in Reed's Bay & around Coconut Island. Staff was helpful, full of aloha... our guide Morgan was attentive & had a great attitude. He showed us (beginners) some tips & was full of info, insights, & patience during our kayak outing. Ocean was a bit choppy that day, making for slow going at first, but we felt safe & had a great time. Mahalo!
The kayak adventure was challenging enough for our experienced kayakers but easy enough for our newbies. Adam, our guide, was knowledgeable, patient, and had a great sense of humor. He shared great historical information with the adults and kept the kids entertained. We also appreciated his local information for things to do and see, and places to eat. We will definitely use Hilo Ocean Adventures again.
We were late getting there and they were very flexible about it. Our guide Adam was nice and knowledgeable but it didn’t allow time to kayak to coconut island or see the waterfalls.
Morgan was amazing! Would do it again. Learned how to paddle board. He was very patient with us as most of us was not experienced.
We enjoyed our snorkel tour so much, we booked a kayak tour with Morgan also. Another great experience; Morgan went above and beyond to make sure we had an unforgettable trip. Highly recommend both the snorkel and kayak tours!!
Morgan was the best! Super nice & hilarious!! Always was quick to help & made all of us feel safe! Great time!
Just had a great kayak adventure to Coconut Island with Hilo Ocean Adventures. Our tour guide Morgan was friendly, informative and cordial. He shared a ton of Island knowledge with us, and he was amazing at supporting a wide range of physical abilities within our group of 5. Morgan seamlessly helped me in and out of my kayak gracefully, then turned around and jumped off the 20-foot tower with my daughter & her boyfriend. We plan to book again with Hilo Ocean Adventures to snorkel and dive later this week. I hope all the guides can live up to the high standard that Morgan set.
Did not provide services. Not flexible with their dates especially when it’s pouring rain. Not happy with this company at all.
