Albert was great. He knows Hilo. Albert was also a very patient bus driver. He was also patient with the people on the tour.
Seeing the lava flow at the volcano’s national park and Rainbow Waterfall made the trip one of my favorite tours.
Great guide from Green Tours. This tour should be titled Hilo tour with volcano nit waterfall!!! We spent most time at volcano and lave fields small amount of time at waterfall.
Auntie Karen was the best tour guide love 💕 her we had an amazing tour so knowledgeable and kind so patience so loving 🥰
The host of this trip was excellent. However, the booking company is terrible. We spent about an hour driving to and from the airport to drop off a couple who was scheduled to do a Helicopter Tour, which was not part of this Tour. Additionally, the tour said they were going to the Gardens in Hilo and we didn’t see one. The other stops were great and the Tour guide was great. It just seemed poorly planned by the travel company who oversees these tours.
A wonderful tour of showing the highlights on the Hilo side of the Big Island! Wonderfully Fun guide and driver and really fun experience
Bad weather was just the luck of the draw, however, the vehicle was an older Toyota van that was noisy making it hard to hear the guide. Make sure what the vehicle you will be riding in before you book it
Karen was a excellent tour host. Her know was on point. She made us feel welcome, educated us on the history of Hawaii, taught us new words, and told us about the multiple languages here including pigeon… to top it off Michael cracked a coconut for us. I would recommend this trip to anyone coming to the big island. Oh yeah, I forgot Karen recommended a dinner location in kona called Quinn’s almost by the sea. 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Aunti Karen was very knowledgeable and fun. The tour was efficient and enjoyable. We love the volcano and the volcano tube!
Seeing an active volcano was a great experience. Looking at it from the vantage point was something special
Our guide Yong was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot about the history of the volcanoes and surrounding Hilo highlights. He was very courteous and engaging and enhanced our excursion immensely.
This was a good excursion that we took while in Hilo for the day. Great choice rather than a crowded cruise based excursion. We were picked up in a nice newer passenger van. Only 8 total people in our group. Our day in port was a bit short, so some of the stops felt rushed. But as a group we talked with the guide and made some adjustments. Bring a light snack, although we did stop at a 7/11 for lunch.
The following review reflects on Viator and not solely on the tour operator. We booked with Viator over the phone, gave our trip and flight info and they booked this tour for us. Received a text the day before the tour by the operator to change my flight time or location or we would not be able to attend... Thanks for the notice! Perhaps when I booked this tour Viator could have provided all this information.
The driver/guide, John was very, very knowledgeable on everything about the island, History and culture to real estate to geology to plants, etc, etc. This is a six hour tour that makes a lot of stops. It was raining much of the day but John made the stops and everything worked out very well. We would recommend for first timers or anyone that wants a good overview of the area.
John was the best guide. He had an abundance of history and information and great stories to tell. The island is beautiful.
We had the opportunity to visit Japanese gardens, Big Island Candies, a macadamia farm, and an enjoyable trip to a variety of craters and the Volcano National Park visitors center. Guide was friendly, entertaining, and seemed quite knowledgeable. Several stops, but we had a shuttle bus with only 7 tourists, so this was quick and easy compared to the larger buses with a single exit.
Alex drove our group all around the island, which was delightful. Learning about the geological history of the land was very interesting. We were thoroughly impressed and entertained by his knowledge and enthusiasm.
Excellent tour. John was fabulous. Great storyteller and chock full of interesting info about the island. Would do again.
The excursion was great. When out of his way to show us different sights. Very patient with us. Explain diffirent sights and way of living in Hilo. Love it.
Such a great tour. Covered so much! Great tour guide with great facts. As a solo traveler, a definite tour!
We enjoyed the fact that this was not on one of those giant buses. It was nice to only worry about a few couples getting on and off the bus vs a large crowd. Each stop was 20-30 minutes and they were spaced out to the point where you do not spend hours driving to get to a short 20 minute stop and leave. The variety of the stops between waterfalls, Volcano National Park, and other attractions kept the tour perfectly balanced. My wife and I really enjoyed this trip and I would recommend it to anyone.
The tour was very thorough and the driver and guide were both helpful and knowledgeable. It wasn't clear that we would have to buy our lunch at a gas station to take on the bus for later. Also, the tour ended up being 6 hours instead of 5 so it got a little long and people were antsy.
Good tour of the sights, but remember to bring a jacket or sweater because it’s a little cooler at the caldera.
Our thanks to John our driver and guide, who made the tour amazing with his knowledge and cultural history. He had a great sense of humor which kept us entertained in between the many stops he made for us and or fellow travelers. If you book this tour make sure you request John.
We enjoyed our small group. There were only 8 of us on the excursion. Very personal and very inclusive. Would do it again
The tour guide did an excellent job of getting us to a variety of locations on the island and keeping to a schedule that allowed us to see everything. This was a much better deal than the similar excursion offered by NCL.
Mel did a great job of taking us around and sharing his knowledge of the island and sites. We had a slow start however as the pickup was at least 1/2 mile outside where the other vendors pickup and drop off so a few couples were late in getting to the van. Providing a map would have been handy if they don't have access to the vendor area next time. The van had no markings and no hand sign was available to be seen when approaching where it was parked in a remote lot
