Super interesting tour with a great tour guide. Love the history shared and the great product. Appreciate this local business and it's delicious salt. The tasting was a great surprise! We bought three salts, garlic, orange, and chili pepper. Highly recommend!

I wasn't sure what to expect, and I'm so glad we did this. Our tour guide was very informative, and she remembered our names! If you like salt at all or you like to know where your food comes from, this is a great tour! I don't want to say much to give their infor.ation away, but this also helps add a level of appreciation and awareness of our need to take care of our oceans. We did the foot soak, which I didn't notice as an option to add during booking. If you're interested, look for the link or additional option. If not available on viator, make sure you let them know ahead of the tour that you want to do it.
Great way to spend a couple of hours to learn about the Island and its history. They are also working to clean up debris in our oceans. It is definitely a passion project for all those involved. Also the location is beautiful.
We absolutely loved our visit to Kona Sea Salt Farm! Our guide, Ipilani, was wonderful and made the tour both interesting and engaging. It was fascinating to learn the history of Hawaiian salt and see firsthand how they produce it using incredibly cold, deep ocean water. Sampling the different salts was a highlight, and we left with a whole new appreciation for the process and the variety they produce. The property is beautiful, too. We learned they host weddings, and it’s easy to see why—the setting is gorgeous! This was such a fun and unique experience and a great way to learn something about Hawaii that you wouldn’t discover on your own. We highly recommend taking the tour. It’s absolutely worth a visit while you’re on the Big Island!
Our tour guide was great and it was super fun to learn how deep water salt is harvested. She talked about the history of the farm, and each stage of the process. There was also a section of the tour dedicated to an ocean clean-up program. At the end, you had the chance to taste all the different flavors of salt with some fruits/veggies. We really enjoyed the garlic salt and the one with herbs in it. Tour was about an hour long and a mix of walking around and sitting down.
This was a well planned tour. We got to see the beautiful ocean front area. We learned how sea salt is made. There was a mixture of indoor and our outdoor to keep guests from getting too hot. At the end we got to try their sea salts and flavored sea salts with fruits and veggies. The tour was quite informative and our guide loved answering questions. I would recommend this tour!
Spent time learning about the salt process. Tasted some great salts with fruits and vegetables. Saw the processing tubes.
We’ve done this tour before. It’s fun and informative but the price has almost tripled in 5 years. I do enjoy the tour and it’s fun to see how the sale is made but the real reason to go is purchase salt products which I am happy to do. Maybe a waiver of the fee if you purchase a set amount of product would be something to think about. Still one of the better priced tours on the island.
Great information given, yummy tasting with fruit and vegetables, knowledgeable and friendly speaker
Very friendly, knowledgable tour guide. Fascinating history and information about salt making. Delicious taste testing!
We were looking for something to do while staying on the island that wouldn’t take a lot of time, but would be interesting for a foodie like myself . We booked the day before and the process was easy. The tour was wonderful. The guide was so knowledgeable and interesting while explaining the process of making sea salt. It is a beautiful piece of property on the ocean and oh my goodness, the tasting of salt and food at the end was amazing! There is a little gift shop to bring souvenirs home… and if you have time and are brave, do the deep sea water foot soak …it was quite the experience and I’m glad we did it.
This was amazing experience! It is fascinating how they are able to harvest the salt from the deep ocean and harvest and package it right there on the beautiful grounds. Seeing the different stages of the harvesting was really interesting. Our host was amazing and able to remember everyone’s name on the tour. She even did a mini photo shoot of each of us with the beautiful ocean backdrop
Great tour of how salt is coming up from deep depths. We enjoyed the 48 degree foot bath with minerals. You should try it.
The Kona Salt Farm tour kept on coming up in my social. I was totally up for it, cuz well salt. My traveling companions were questioning my sa[li]nity, but I got them on board after noting that it came highly recommended from Nick the GM at Hilton Waikoloa Village. Tour was great, Mata offered a perfect mix of Hawaiian culture and history, science and wow info. Her hand gestures as she explained things were like a hula demonstration. We all enjoyed the salt tasting and great gift shop. I only wish I’d done the cold water foot plunge. Great outing!
The tour was amazing! Just do it! The foot soak was very refreshing! The gift shop is very well stocked and very reasonably priced souvenirs!
Do not skip this tour when visiting the Big Island. At the end of our trip with our close friends almost all of us rated this our favorite activity. We learned so much about Deep Sea Salt and the benefits of it. At the end you will have a sampling of all the different salts with some veggies and fruit to pair with it. Be sure to also book the foot soak as its so worth it, especially after walking through the Hawaii sun and heat, its cool refreshing and totally relaxing. At the end you go through their gift shop, where I ended up buying stocking stuffers for my family of all the little fun salts for them to try as well. Can't say enough good things about this place, because they also shipped my order to my home for free!! It actually beat me home ha-ha thanks to FedEx.
Ipolani is fantastic! Interesting information! Definitely worth the time to learn about salt harvesting and the island.
The tour of the salt farms was so interesting. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Kona and wants to see something a little different.
Fun experience, with knowledgeable tour guides! Definitely add the foot soak! Beautiful picture opportunity as well!
Very informative. Our guide was very knowledgeable. The sea salt tasting was amazing especially paired with the fruit and veggies
I found it very interesting. How it is harvested and then processed. Guide was a very good speaker and story telller!
This was a great experience. I learned a lot about how the salt was made. How cold the depth of the ocean water was. It was really amazing.
Went with a large group of 11 plus baby. Was pleasantly surprised on our experience. Our guide was very informative and learned each of our names. The salt tasting was great and they accommodated an allergy. Would recommend taking a sun hat or umbrella as you stand out in the sun for a bit during the tour. We ended up buying lots of different salts. Would love to come back again to try the foot soak.
My wife loved this tour and their explanations of how they make the salt, and the friendly tour guide that DID learn everyone’s names within 5 minutes.
It is an interesting side trip out of Kona. Definitely interesting to see how salt is evaporated from seawater. The salt tasting at the end was OK but I felt most of the flavors were ones you could do with using proper seasonings as you cook
The tour, tasting, and presentation were all excellent! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Very informative and well worth the time.
The tour was informative and fun. The tour lead really knew her history of the area and production process. She was so attentive to the group and sweet. If you are interested in food or cooking this is a must. My mind was buzzing with dishes to try our new salts on. 10 out of 10 would recommend. P.S. they provide umbrellas for sun shade and plenty of water (some with magnesium if you want to try its benefits, ask about the cold water foot soak)
very interesting and informative. Our guide was great. The tastings were good. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
My wife and I really enjoyed the tour of your salt processing plant. The tour guide was awesome!👏🏼👏🏼. Not only did she remember the names of all the 21 tourists but she was a wealth of information of the salt collection and processing. She also showed great pride in her Hawaiian heritage and the work the salt processing plant is doing to save the ocean from pollution. Highly recommend this tour.
Great tour and education of the ancient practices of harvesting salt and the current methods of extracting pristine Kona salt from the Pacific Ocean 2200 feet below the beautiful Kona shore. Our guide was inviting and a wonderful example of aloha spirit. Definitely worth our time and money.
The Kona Salt tour was interesting and fun, but lacked details in the explanation concerning numerous areas within the entire process of production. We enjoyed the experience, but would not do it again. If you can not stand in putting your feet in very cold, approximately 45 - 48 degree, water then I would advise you not to do the foot soak. We tried it and it was not enjoyable at all for us. The salt is what we really came there to buy, which we found a variety of different flavors and the of course, the Kona deep sea salt.
I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but the presentation was flawless and so informative. It was very cool to see how they harvest the salt. The sea salt tasting at the end was the perfect way to sample before you purchased. Be prepared that, if you do the foot soak, the water is 46°. It was so refreshing on such a hot day! Great experience.
Wonderful tour. Lots of information about sea salt I hadn’t known and very welcoming, friendly staff. Sweet gift shop for salt tasting and purchase at the end of the tour. We enjoyed the foot bath as well. Water is piped to our own foot soak tub from far below the ocean’s surface and magnesium harvested from their salt production left us feeling refreshed and ready for the day!
Our guide was knowledgeable and super friendly. She was engaging. It was great being able to sample all of the salts so we could choose to buy our favorites.
Neat experience Taste testing at the end was a pleasant surprise We brought home a few salts
The guide was friendly and informative. She made it interesting. The tastings after the tour was wonderful.
Tour was fantastic! The tasting was wonderful! Totally worth the time and money!!
Very interesting and informative how they collect and process the water and salt products. Salt tasting after was very fun and enhanced the food flavors! We also did the Ocean Water Mineral Foot Soak after the tour. What fun and my legs felt the effects for many hours after.
Wonderful tour. Learned a lot and bought some delicious salt. They let us experiece what the do daily.
Great tour guide, interesting, nice gift shop! We enjoyed ourselves. The magnesium water was refreshing!
This tour was so informative and our tour guide was fabulous. She didn’t skip a beat and remembered all of our names that were doing the tour. It was a beautiful day and we were able to enjoy the coastal beach and enjoyed a variety of different salts and how they are produced. Lastly picked up some fun items from the gift shop.
A definite must add to your itinerary of places to see. Our tour guide gave us much knowledge about the process of salt and history of the process and the property where the salt farm sits on. We did a tasting afterwards where we got to try all the salts made there inside the gift shop where we bought for a decent price our own take home sea salt.
The tour guide is very informative. The multiple benefits of this type of salt is educational. Worth the effort.
It was such a good tour! We learned so much not only about deap sea salt but also about the area we were
This was amazing, loved it, so much fun. The tastings were perfect and so was the information they gave us. Did the very cold food soak too!
Great tour learning about salt and the island. Our tour guide Madi was a great speaker. The salt tasting at the end was awesome!
What an amazing experience! It was a unique combination of seeing the operations and learning so much in the natural setting with a spa feel. It was the right amount of time and information. The salt tasting was fun and the store was perfect.
One of the most informative and educational tours we have ever experienced! The guide was amazing and made the tour not only educational but fun!
Very informative ! Candee did an awesome job with the tour- very passionate about the salt farm. Her enthusiasm was infectious! Highly recommend! Salt tasting was phenomenal.
Very informative! Loved the salt tasting, too!!! It was really cool to learn about the different coarseness of salt and how it develops.
