Hawaiian Canoe Sailing Experience In Maui

Horrible company. They had to cancel our appointment the first time due to wave conditions, but they never called us. I had to find out from Viator from calling them. Rescheduled and I'm sitting on the beach again with the same thing. Company is a no show. Viator tried to call them, since I don't have their number. No answer, so I'm stuck waiting here until Viator decides it warrants cancellation and a refund. I understand that wave conditions change and cancellations need to happen. What is not acceptable is being so unprofessional as to not contact us at all.

Really fun experience! I have been a sailor for many years and have been to Hawaii quite a few times, this was a Great time with Sage and his son Cru! Very personal experience as there were only two others on board. A little snorkeling stop was nice too. Sage told us some cool Hawaiian history that I wasn't aware of, made it even more interesting. Highly recommend low key fun thing to do.

Great experience, wonderful crew, lots of history! We enjoyed the canoe and sailing as well as some snorkeling.

Cancelled without explanation Disappointed

We booked this tour and it had to be canceled by the operator due to weather. This is completely understandable but what was not understandable is that they promised immediate refund and we never received it. I’ve tried calling, emailing, dms but no response whatsoever. We love to support local businesses but it’s really bad business to not answer any emails or phone messages. Be wary of business with this company as they don’t stand behind their own verbal promises. I have given this company over a month to do the right thing but unfortunately the response has been silence so this is my only way to advocate for our lack of service.

We had an amazing time. Experience of a lifetime for our kids (8/5/4). Being able to glide over the clear water and see all the sea life below makes this such a unique experience. Then to be able to just stop, jump off to snorkel and return made it an easy adventure. Sage provided history of the Island which was intriguing. Strongly recommend for any person or family. You truly are supporting local if you take this trip.

We had a fun, relaxing morning on our Sailing Canoe tour! Sage had a lot of great stories ranging from Hawaiian history to personal anecdotes. We saw several turtles from the canoe and lots of fish while snorkeling.

Really enjoyed our time on this excursion (2 adults and 1 teen). Thank you for a lovely morning! Great views and conversation with Sage. Had some surprising small world moments too. Enjoyed the snorkeling and felt comfortable with the canoe nearby. We also crossed paths with a turtle. We left our phones on the shore and it was fun to just enjoy the experience. Highly recommend Maui Sailing Canoe.

We had a great outing on this sail canoe. Sage was a great host who shared his stories of growing up in Hawaii and history of the canoeing in Hawaii. It was a leisurely sail and saw so many whales while we were out. We got to a spot where a mother and baby were close by so we dropped the sail to watch them at which point they came within feet of our boat. It was the most amazing whale watching experience. I highly recommend this adventure.

Provider was a no show and he still has not sent my refund . He had problems with his boat and I was text after driving from Latina

Loved the small boat experience with Sage and his daughter. The snorkeling was fantastic (we saw turtles and enjoyed a huge coral head) . We also liked that Sage shared so much history and cared to spend time sharing with us.

Operator had a last minute emergency and had to cancel our excursion. Received a full refund same day. Great communication and I’m sure that we would have had a great time.

Our family of 4 went out with Sage. He was really knowledgeable and very good at handling the boat. Snorkeling was excellent and we saw 2 turtles. Parking at Polo Beach was easy and you can do an outdoor shower and change clothes afterwards. Highly recommend!

Sage is an amazing guide. We had some apprehension given the size of the canoe, but I can say this was my absolute favorite excursion during our week in Maui. His stories and history of the islands coupled with his mastery of all types of watercraft made us feel super comfortable. We were able to snorkel, see whales up as legally close as possible and swim with turtles. Two fantastic hours! Thank you, Sage!

This trip exceeded expectations. Saje is a trove of knowledge and made us feel comfortable. Great snorkeling with many different types of beautiful fish. My husband and I were lucky, and we even saw some turtles.

Simply incredible experience in beautiful Maui. Sage and his coworker Chris were very friendly and showed us a great time. The other couple in the trip with us were very fun as well. We all got lucky and saw several whale jumps right in front of us. We then sailed around a bit, circled a yacht to get a closer look, then sailed back to the starting point. We were all so amazed at the whale sightings that we blew off snorkeling. However, they would have stopped had we said yes. Both Sage and Chris said our whale sightings were a treat and we feel very lucky to have witnessed them. Thanks guys for an awesome experience.

Vene and Chris were great! Vene taught us so much about Hawaiian/Polynesian culture, which was even more special as my husband and daughter are part Hawaiian. We were able to see several whales while relaxing in beautiful Maui - so peaceful. Highly recommend, would definitely do again!

This was the best experience we had in Maui! The whole family loved it! Sage was a wealth of knowledge about Hawaii and its history. Him and his son were great sailors. This was so much better than a large boat, so relaxing and so close to the water. Snorkeling was a blast, you could hear the whales talk underwater and above. We also got incredibly lucky to have a whale surface like 30 feet from the vessel 😊😮. When we ever get back to Maui this is the one tour I would definitely do again. Thank you Sage and Cru!

The sailing experience was one of our favorites excursions in Maui! The snorkeling was great! The owner was very experienced and shared so much Hawaiian history! Him and his son were very kind and made the experience wonderful! Our family had the canoe all to ourselves! The weather was beautiful. Our kids are 9, 14,and 17 years old and they along with my husband loved it! I would highly recommend and do it again.

Sage provided a lot of great information about the islands. The trip was relaxing and fun. The snorkeling was great and Brody was helpful pointing out hidden gems. I highly recommend this tour.

Did not happen. Operator cancelled an hour before activity due to strong waves. Disadvantage of small private canoe versus large vessels. Now waiting for refund from either operator, booking company or payment processor.

We only picked one guided excursion to take on this trip and we were so lucky to pick this one. Sage has tremendous knowledge and experience and his love of the Hawaiian islands and joy of sailing radiated our whole experience. My nine year old twins loved the experience as much as my husband and myself. What a beautiful day to end our 8 day trip on Maui. Thank you Sage and Kira.

Amazing!! 🌺 Our family of four had a fabulous time with Sage and his daughter Kirra. We relaxed and soaked up the sun while they did the hard work and also snorkeled a bit. Hearing about Hawaiian history was a nice bonus! Tip: Sage has vast sailing experience and had our comfort in mind offering to reschedule our booking so we would have a better day due to the winds. Make your reservation early in your trip so you don’t miss this terrific experience!

Absolutely must do when you are visiting Maui. The two-hour sail was packed with some great snorkeling, amazing whale watching, and super fun sailing. The owner, Sage, is a "sailing encyclopedia" he knows so much about the history, fauna, flora, and geography of Maui, Hawaii, and whales. We saw so many whales. He gave us great tips for snorkeling spots etc. We learned so much and we will take another trip with him next time we are in Maui.

We were a party of 6 and got the catamaran to ourselves, which was very nice. Sage and Crew are excellent sailors which made for a fabulous experience. Hopping off and into the water for snorkeling was a fun aspect of the trip. As was getting to know more about Maui history and local lore.

Would highly recommend this experience! Sage is a 4th (maybe more) generation Hawaiian and is a wealth of information about the islands. Very personal service as there was only 1 other person on our canoe! Snorkeling was amazing and the 2 hours went by quicker than I wanted!

My wife and I started off our 2 week Hawaiian vacation by taking Maui Sailing Canoe’s Sail, Paddle and Snorkel Tour. Communication about the 8:00 AM tour was excellent prior to our arrival in Maui. We knew exactly when and where to meet and what to bring. It helped that we had a beautiful sunny day for our tour along with calm waters. There are 2 catamaran style nets on which to sit while owner/captain Sage and his crewman paddle and steer in the canoe in between. There were 2 other couples on the tour. We sailed south along the shore and then anchored just off shore. My wife, Sage and another passenger stayed on the canoe while the rest of us snorkeled. I was in the water about a half an hour, checking out the coral and fish. While I was snorkeling, my wife saw a whale breech a good distance from the canoe. After snorkeling, we sailed back north up the shore and made our way back to the beach. Sage, who grew up in Maui, regaled us with stories of growing up in the area along with a little history of the island. It was a very pleasant 2 hour tour and really set the mood for our vacation.

I got exactly what I wanted and needed in being able to paddle, snorkel, and sail. Water was like glass so paddle I did, I decided to swim and listen to the whales but others in the party snorkels for fish and octopus. Relaxing!!!! Great owner and crew. They were like minded and straight up great people! I was able to unwind with a great adventure on the water! I WILL return.

My husband set up the activities and I have to admit I was a bit worried about this one, since I’m not a good swimmer and our six year old is still learning to swim. Sage and Sam are extremely knowledgeable that I immediately knew we were in good hands. They had a life vest for the kid, the snorkel gear for us, towels, storage space on the beach for our backpack, and a cell phone “safe box”, since we forgot the water cameras. They took us to a great spot for snorkeling and even the kid got in the water. Which was amazing. He didn’t snorkel but at least got in the water. Being December we got extremely lucky to see a turtle, dolphins, and whales when we were back on the boat. (This of course was not part of the package -unexpected BONUS.) And the fact that it was on a canoe it felt so much closer, and less noisy, than in the bigger boats. We already said, we’ll do it again!

What a great experience!! If you are looking for a canoe and snorkel experience on a more personal level, this is the perfect option. The crew was warm, friendly, WELL experienced, and incredibly knowledgeable about the islands. Our party of 2 were the only ones on board. I enjoyed the tranquility of the tour, and the option to just sit back and relax was a welcomed surprise. I will definitely book this experience again!

It was a perfect day for our family of 4 to sail on this beautiful boat. No crowds, no engine fumes. Excellent crew and REAL SAILING! We stopped for some snorkeling and learned about Hawaiin culture and natural history. In the past, we've sailed with Trilogy and others-this was way better-going to go again soon! Highly recommended.

Super fun and intimate sailing and snorkeling adventure. Sage was very knowledgeable and it was a lovely morning. Suitable for all ages and ability levels. Our five year old grandson got to snorkel and swim with a turtle - it was the highlight of his trip. Will definitely book this again next time we are in Maui.

Really nice experience. I’m not a water person so I did not snorkel but everyone else in our group did; those that snorkels said it was so so. We did not see any turtles and they said they saw some fish. We all Enjoyed the history/background information shared. Tour guide/owner is very knowledgeable and personable. Helpful pointers: in my haste to put finishing touches on our travel plans I mis read the tour description and thought we would all be participating in rowing the canoe. That is not the case. Just the tour guide rows/sails. We enjoyed our experience nonetheless. Polo beach parking/entrance is past the Fairmont; Apple Maps had us turn into the Fairmont when we plugged in the address. Parking is paved and shady and there are public restrooms here. The tour operator provides a lockbox on the beach for anything you don’t want to take out on the boat. There is also a very small dry box on the boat for phones etc. we brought sunglasses, hats, waters and a GoPro w us onto the boat. You sit on catamaran style nets on your sail; be sure to apply plenty of sunscreen. They do provide all snorkel gear, towels, noodles and life vests if you like. Overall, if you are looking for a sail/snorkel experience this one was very intimate (our group included our family of 4, another family of 2 plus the tour guide and his assistant/daughter) and you get great insight and info from a real local. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

We had an EXCELLENT experience with Sage on his sailing canoe. He and his crew were expert sailer/paddlers. When we got out to snorkel he got in as well showing us where to look and pointing out interesting sea life. It was our kids first time and he helped them to feel comfortable and confident. A must do when in Maui!

My family and I had a great time. We totally enjoyed the snorkel and sail. Sage and Crux were competent and made us feel safe and comfortable. We highly recommend this small group snorkel and sail.

If you're looking to book a more intimate type of water tour while learning about the Hawaiian culture and unique aspects of each island, this is it! Sage and Keira made this experience for my family absolutely memorable. We were able to choose freely to spend more time snorkeling or sailing along the coast of Waimea. We spotted some fish along the reef and a turtle at a distance. Just be aware the clarity can very due to the water- weather conditions so your "snorkeling" experience in calmer, shallow waters are not a fair comparison. The Canoe can take up to 7 people but we sailed with just our group of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids). They provide all the gear for a good snorkel and even towels to dry off. There are outdoor showers nearby to rinse off. Will definitely look to book with them again next time we return! Mahalo Sage and Keira!

We had a lovely time sailing with Sage off Polo Beach. He had good snorkel gear that we used to snorkel the Wailea reel. It was great to be further out from the beach to explore this beautiful reef. It was relaxing, fun and we got some great pictures.

Great first time snorkeling experience, and in the ocean. Encountered a sea turtle within 10 minutes! Should have brought an underwater GoPro Camera. Sage and Sam were great hosts. My wife doesn't swim, but really enjoyed herself even though she didn't get into the water. At first you are wondering, where are we going? Just relax. Sage knows what he is doing. Best to go early when the wind is calm. The variation in sea depth made things interesting also. Thanks Sage and Sam for a great experience.
