Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Adventure

A must do tour with Aaron. Aaron was a fantastic tour guide. We were all delayed getting off the cruise ship and Aaron contacted all of to let us know he was waiting till we all made it off the ship. He then tailored the tour to what everyone wanted due to our time being cut short. Aaron was very knowledgeable and funny and made the tour worth while. Highly recommend this tour and be sure to ask to have Aaron as your guide!!!

Aaron was great! We ended up doing a full day rather than the half day we initially booked. I am so glad we did this tour instead of just renting a car. Aaron is local and was a delight to interact with. He kept tabs on all of us (8 total) and an eye on the time. We loved being picked up and dropped off at our cruise ship—he was very easy to find. Aaron’s love of the area is clear and we benefited from his enthusiasm. Van was comfortable and clean, and Aaron was an excellent driver.

Aaron was great with Pualena Tours. Meeting spot was inside the cruise terminal. Very informative and safe. He was prepared with umbrellas, snacks and water. Highly recommend. FYI, walking inside the lava tube is uneven with puddles and low ceilings at times. Wear sturdy walking shoes.

This was a great experience! Pick -up was right at the pier and our tour guide yes, Aaron was informative, knowledgeable and shared several stories of his Hawaiian lifestyle. He provided snacks, bottled water and umbrellas, which were very appreciated on a rainy day. The tour was very interesting, despite the weather, we went to all the sites at a leisurely pace. Volcano National Park was a highlight of our trip!

This was a great experience! It would’ve been better if it wasn’t rainy, but we still got to see all the incredible sites. Our guide provided everything we needed, including bottled water, snacks, and umbrellas. The tour was not rushed, we had time to walk leisurely and take the time to read the signs along the way. Highly recommend.

Aaron was a great guide! He is the epitome of aloha spirit and did a great job sharing highlights of his hometown with us. We wanted to focus on Hawaii Volcanoes NP and he moved us around the park adeptly avoiding crowds and catching lava action to make the most of our limited time. He had everything we needed from umbrellas to flashlights and yummy snacks. It was a wonderful experience. Highly recommend.

After the storm NOLO passed the Hawaiian Islands, we had to modify our originally scheduled tour when we were going to be in Hilo for more time on our cruise. We found this half day tour with Paulena Tours to Volcano National Park and Aaron did not disappoint. He was waiting in the terminal for us and was friendly and welcoming. His transport van was new and comfortable for our small group. As a local, he knew how to maximize our time in the park that included a walk through a lava tube, viewing the volcano from a couple points and the steam vents. He also included a bonus stop at the Mauna Loa farm for Macadamia nuts. Highly recommend touring with Aaron and will not hesitate to book a tour with him when we come back to Hilo.

We were worried our tour would feel like we were missing out on things due to some rainy weather from a tropical storm/hurricane coming in, but our guide Aaron was incredible. He took amazing care of the group driving safely in rainy conditions, he was incredibly knowledgeable on island history, culture, legends, and information. Importantly, we were able to see so many things on our tour today that we have a lot of really great memories to come home with. This was an excellent tour that I've already recommended to friends and family. Would love to book again the next time we're on the big island. ♥️

Aaron is awesome. He made the tour fun. Very informational on everything and the land. Also funny. Usually I’m nervous on bus rides and it was pretty chill. Good time, he even gave us recommendations for after we finished the tour of things in the area. Highly recommend him.

This was a terrific experience and great value for money. Aaron is one of the best guides we’ve ever experienced on a vacation tour. He was personable, informative and worked hard to make sure everyone in the group had a great time and saw what was important to them. We visited almost immediately after the hurricane had he shared a lot of information about the island, its culture and the impact of the storm. This was such an awesome day in Hilo. We came in by cruise and Aaron picked us up directly at the cruise port. He was super informative and made sure to make the trip enjoyable. 100% would recommend.

Our tour guide Aaron was great! He called us on the way to our hotel, picked us up on time, and always had clear guidelines and tips for us! The tour experience was a good mix of narration and open time to go at our pace.

This was an all day tour. Well worth it ! Our guide, Aaron was very informative. We saw the volcano crater from several view points. It is massive! Saw some steam cracks up close. Saw Rainbow Falls and black sand too!9

Gorgeous scenery! Take a rain jacket or poncho for the top. It gets a little rainy and chilly. Aaron our guide was amazing with his island and volcano knowledge! The lava tube was equally as amazing!! Book this now!

Our guide was exceptional he had to deal with a delayed start due to us clearing immigration He then proceeded to take us to a couple of craters - one was obscured by clouds. He was cheerful and entertaining The weather wasn’t great but we had a great tour - Highly recommended

Aaron was amazing and gave us a wonderful tour. The van is immaculate and everything was perfect for a family with teens.

This was an awesome experience and our tour guide Nhi had a wealth of knowledge being a lifetime resident of the island. He was able to give us information not only about the volcanoes but the culture, history, geographical area, and more! The national volcanoes tour was a great once in a lifetime experience as we were able to see the eruption of Kilauea for the historical 50th time! It was surreal and we were glad to be a part of that historic time. We also were able to experience driving through one of the other large mountains, Mauna Loa, to get there. We were on the Kona side and had to go to Hilo for the tour. We were also able to get awesome facts about the soil and see lava rocks and ash that formed obsidian along the route. Toured the lava tube and felt the steam from the volcano’s steam vents around the area. It was such an awesome experience I would definitely recommend for you to do this while there!

Our guide and driver Aaron is one of those people you find yourself feeling deeply grateful for having the opportunity to have had share his homeland with you. His tour emphasized the importance of Hawaiian culture as a crucial component of understanding of the awesome natural forces in play at Volcano. We loved the legends of the Ancients he colored his narrative with. As Aaron reiterated: Ohana means family, in the broadest sense of the word. All are included. Non are left behind. We are truly grateful to feel part of Aaron’s ohana.

Aaron was super friendly and knowledgeable about everything on the island, not just the volcano. He shared plant knowledge along with Hawaiian lore and places to eat and visit! At the volcano we hit several vantage points, the Nāhuku lava tube and Keanakāko’i crater. Highly recommend if you want to support local and have a great volcano experience.

Aaron was extremely welcoming and knowledgeable about everything on the island, not just the volcano! He pointed out and talked about different plants on the island and shared Hawaiian lore. We had plenty of time at the volcano, visiting 3 different vantage points, the lava tube, and an older crater. Snacks and beverages are included! Highly recommend if you’re looking to support a small local business and want knowledge of the island that only a native Hawaiian can provide!

Aaron was fantastic! We had trouble getting off the ship and he was super communicative and patient while we went through immigration as it was our first port back in the US. He was incredibly knowledgeable and we easily pivoted when one of the stops was not allowing stops due to the parking lot being filled. He had snacks and delicious drinks available throughout the tour. We would absolutely tour with him again!

I'm so glad ended up not cancelling. I really was going to just not go. But, after having dragged myself out of bed, I can't say enough about Aaron. He was very personable and knowledgeable about the history of not only the places we went, but also, of historical facts that probably wouldn't be known on a regular day, such as the actual meaning of Aloha.
