This tour takes you to so many must see places on tge island. Justin stayed to good schedule. He shared so many stories about each stop and kept us entertained all day. All of the stops were so good I couldn't tell which was my favorite.

Justin gives a great highlights tour of Volcanoes National Park and the area in and around Hilo! He has all kinds of great information to share and was a really fun guide. I’d like to go back to the Big Island to do another one of his tours!

Justin took us on an amazing tour around Hilo showing us the national park with its steaming volcanoes, majestic waterfalls, black sand beach, green turtle (there was only one basking on the sand), and more importantly he shared his stories of his native heritage. The van was luxurious, immaculate, and Justin interacted with all 14 of us to make it a family-like experience.

EXCELLENT!! Justin was super friendly,funny and personable like your cousin was showing you the island. It was the perfect amount of people in a large van and he had a microphone so there was no problem hearing all the information he provided. We spent the perfect amount at each stop (admissions included). We had a fantastic time and I highly recommend this excursion!

Justin was the best tour guide! Enjoyed hearing about local culture as well as a bit about his family. Kept us interested while driving to cool sites. Our favorite was seeing and learning about the banyan trees. Highly recommend!

There is a reason this tour is rated #1. It covers all the bases if you are making a short stop in Hilo or want to take a day to get your bearings. Our guide, Justin, contacted us the day before with instructions on where to meet and what to look for when we disembarked our cruise ship. He was right on time and had our day scheduled to the minute. We spent plenty of time in Volcano National Park making several stops along the way. Justin was great about explaining the caldera, volcano eruptions & their aftermath. After the National Park, we made our way to a number of different points of interest including the beautiful Rainbow Falls. Before lunch, Justin drove around downtown Hilo, pointing out a lot of options, offering his own recommendations, then dropping us off for an hour. The day ended at the black sand beaches where we saw turtles and enjoyed some beautiful views. This was a really good tour of Hilo, made better by Justin. As a native Hawaiian, he offered insight into the island and its culture. Moreover his warm and engaging personality and humorous delivery made for a very enjoyable day.

This was such a great tour it was the highlight of our trip! Justin, the owner & guide of Makaio Tours, has true aloha spirit. Our visit to Hilo was limited to 1 day because of difficult weather and Justin was able to reschedule our tour at the last minute.
