Half Day Morning Fishing Charter

This was a 1000 dollar boat ride PLUS you had to buy a fishing license separately. Nice people. Nice boat. Can’t recommend— not one bite. No fish at all. I know you can’t promise fish but….. too pricey to just ride around.

We had a fantastic time on this half-day fishing trip. The boat was comfortable and well-maintained, making for a very enjoyable experience on the water. The captain and crew were outstanding, friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help. They took the time to explain what was happening, answer questions, and make sure everyone was having a great experience. The fishing itself exceeded our expectations. We successfully caught a striped marlin and also hooked into a very large blue marlin. Although the blue marlin eventually threw the hook and got away, the fight was an incredible experience and one we’ll be talking about for a long time. Overall, this was a memorable adventure, and we would absolutely recommend this charter to anyone looking for a fun and exciting fishing experience. The Kona Cowboys were a great group of guys to go out fishing with… There boat was very clean and well kept. Within the first hour of being on our morning trip the captain got us into a rare marlin…. And then about 30 minutes later, we caught a mahi-mahi I couldn’t asked for a better trip. Thank you for a great trip..This topped off my honeymoon….

I don’t even know how to explain how much fun me and my daughter had on this boat! Gage and Bo were phenomenal! We only booked a 4 hour trip and within an hour I caught about a 180 lb blue! Something I’ve just dreamed of. They were super chill, laid back but so much fun! Without a doubt, I’ll be back! I’m gonna start saving for the trip when I get back to Nashville! If you book with someone else… well all I can say is sorry!

We had a great day, even though we had no bites. The boat was very clean, roomy and plenty of space. A couple of us even climbed up To the “tuna tower”. Cowboy Kona is a surprisingly young but very Knowledgeable crew, they were helpful, considerate, upbeat and very relaxed. We had a beautiful day. We would book with them again

As an avid fisherman traveling to Hawaii for the first time, I was VERY cautious as to who I would choose to charter my once in a life time fishing trip. After loads of recommendations from everyone on the island, I decided I would give the Kona Cowboys the chance to wow me and let me tell you, they did that AND MORE. The guys were 10/10 when it came to their fishing knowledge - the captain knew exactly where to go to catch the big fish, the deckhands were quick and on point and the atmosphere was perfect. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience here in Hawaii! Would recommend these guys every day of the week!

The captain and his mate were very nice. We were a group of non-fisherman. No judgment. We were hoping for a few more fish, but they did not show up, but we were very happy to catch a huge yellow fin tuna. They gave us a couple pounds of the fish to take home and grill, so all in all, a great experience. I would highly recommend this charter.

We had a great time on the Kona Cowboy. Captain Gaige worked very hard to get our youngest son his marlin. He and his mate made us feel very comfortable and saw to our needs. We have been on several charter trips and Kona Cowboy was by far the best. We will definitely book with them again.

My brother-in-law and my nephew (11yo fish’aholic) booked Kona Cowboys and highly recommend! This was our 3rd sport fishing charter (Cabo & San Diego) and by far the best! Gaige & Nānoa clearly knew what they were doing and offered an amazing experience. They helped us whenever needed and gave us helpful tips the entire time. Customer service wise, they constantly checked to make sure we had what we needed and were comfortable. Pulled in 3 blue marlins and couldn’t be happier!

The Captain Gaige and Crew Beau were exceptional hosts - although we did not catch any fish - the boat ride was fantastic - boat was in super shape - very clean - would definitely do it again in the future

What a great time on the Kona Cowboy! While we didn’t catch any fish, I would highly recommend taking the time to just enjoy the ocean and views. My 7 year old son had an excellent time! The crew was top notch and the boat was immaculate. I would 100% go again with the Kona Cowboy!

Great crew! Boat was stocked with goodies and a relaxing spot to sit while waiting for the fish to bite. My 8 year old was given proper introduction to reel in a 400lb Marlin(with a little help from his dad and the crew). Great day on the water! Can’t wait to cowboy up on our next visit to Kona!

Half day charter, Great knowledge captain and crew, knew the waters well to land 6 large Ono in a single trip which was perfect for helping a 9yo on their first fishing charter. Would recommend. left us plenty of fish for 2 dinners.

Caught 4 wahoos in 4 hours! Amazing people, they did all the work, all we had to do was reel in the fishes. Highly recommend!

Incredible. Loved it. We didn’t catch fish until the end of the trip but even if we hadn’t caught anything it would have been worth it. Nice boat. Great crew. Tournament class boat and equipment. Good sized boat. Comfortable for four of us, three of whom are leas enthusiastic about fishing than the fourth. Very knowledgeable crew. Shawn knows his stuff. He had multiple presentations at varying depths. Very strategic approach. We fished for Ono. Captain Gordon was great as was first-mate Gauge. Gauge even managed to capture us landing fish on video. Would definitely do it again.

Had a good time on the Kona Cowboy. My wife and I had a 4 hour trip about 1000’ off the coast looking for Ono and Mahi. There were some long dead times but a hour in we had two large Ono on the line at one time. Both were in the 40 lb range. Two hers passed with no activity then we got two more within 30 min of each other in the 25lg range. We got to keep one of the four which was fine with my group. The others are sold off. The fish we kept was cleaned by the crew and the advised us on storage and prep. I would book with them again.

This was my first time deep sea fishing, and I had a blast. Within the first 10 minutes out on the water we caught our first Ono, and ended up catching 4 total! Captain Shawn and Sawyer definitely know their stuff, and went out of their way to provide us with a great experience. Highly recommend Kona Cowboy Sportfishing!

Capt. Shawn & First Mate Sy are a great team. They hooked our family up with a couple of nice Wahoo in less than four hours. These guys have the skills & experience you want to put meat on the deck. Thank you for a successful charter & a memorable morning. We had a great trip.

If you are a real fisherman this boat is for you. Captain Shawn has has years of experience and it shows right away. Had his boat and gear dialed in with a full plan for targeting multiple species with a variety of techniques. He does things on his boat I’ve never seen before and I’ve been on quite a few. His deckhand Cy is wise beyond his years and future career fishermen himself. This will be a yearly charter for me now.

The Captain was very clear on what to expect for the charter in way of what we may or not catch. Was awesome to see a father/son running the charter that day and the passion for fishing shined in both! Even though we didn’t bring a fish onto the boat, my son and I had a great time!

Booked a 1/2 day fishing trip early September 2021. Capt and first mate were awesome, had several bites and landed/released a blue marlin! Exceeded expectations and would definitely go again!!

Took a 1/2 day morning trip on the Kona Cowboy. Captain and crew were both very friendly and knowledgeable. My 13 year old caught a 124 1/2 lb blue marlin. He described the experience as the best day of his life.

Captain Shawn provided expert advise and guidance. First Mate Cy provided all the hands-on support this land-lubber needed. On a fishing tournament weekend day, when 90% of the contestants were radioing in "all zeros" for their end-of-day catch, my friend Anthony and I were able to return to port with a 30 pound Wahoo (we weren't in the tournament).

Shawn and Bo at Kona Cowboy we’re great. They took us on a nice fishing trip down the Kona coast and told us so much about the island and history. We even caught a Wahoo and had it for dinner. The boat was in great shape and provided us with plenty of room and shade out of the sun. Well worth it and highly recommended.

Great trip Captain and his dock hand were fantastic! Caught 3 Wahoo! Captain worked hard to make sure we had a good time and caught fish and made sure we brought home some to eat!

Crew worked really hard to find fish for us. Boat was clean and had lots of room. 6 Ono (Wahoo) were caught. One roughly 30 lbs, four 20+ lbs, and a 15 lb.

We had a BLAST and will be back!! Captain John was great to talk to and learn from. I reeled in a Wahoo (that the deckhand filleted and bagged) but hope to be fighting a Marlin next time.

Captain Shawn and Beau were absolutely fantastic. Personable and professional. Capt. Shawn switched tactics constantly to try to catch fish and results are king. 2 Yellow tail, an Ono and to finish the day a large Bull Mahi Mahi. Beau was extremely attentive well as a master at cleaning the catch for supper. We will be calling Kona Cowboy again. Thanks for a great outing.

Capt Shawn was careful to explain his plan to go after several different kinds of fish -- which our group really appreciated. Trolled south for marlin, got some yellowfin by the buoy (for the chef in our group!), one ono, then kept the quest for the bog boy marlins. Very friendly team, super efficient the way they traded duties and kept lines in the water. Back before noon with happy customers. Sashimi last night was simply to die for... If you really like fishing bite the bullet and do a full day. More time for Capt Shawn to explore and find some fish! That said we returned with just the right amount and even shared with our AirBNB host. PS Capt Shawn takes great price in the gear he uses and feels it gives his customers a big advantage. I agree -- he and Bo are meticulous -- and thats something you cant find by price-shopping these charters....

It was a slow day out on the water today, no boats were catching fish. We made an attempt for some tuna but dolphins had dinner on their mind. So as we headed back in we changed from fishing for blue marlin to fishing for Ono (wahoo.) So Shawn made for one last spot to get us a fish, and wouldn't luck have it we caught one!!! I had already resolved to not catching anything but enjoying a day on a boat, but we cam away with supper! Shawn and Bo are amazing to be out with, friendly, and super helpful. If you're thinking of fishing while in kona look no further!

Had an amazing experience with Captain Shawn, he was a true professional through and through. Made adjustments on the fly to make sure that we had a successful trip and set himself far apart from all of the other boats on the water. Everyone else got to watch as we constantly were pulling in fish.

Captain Shawn and crew were great! We caught a 250lb Blue Marlin! Fish of a lifetime! Gear was top of the line. Boat was In Good shape. Great experience.

I grew up in Hawaii and now only live part time here. I can say without hesitation that this is the only charter I recommend to my friends and family. Capt Shawn knows these waters as well as any local fisherman and has always ensured a great charter every time I have recommended or done it myself. My only tip is make sure you know where the boat is located if it is your first time because looking for the boat early in the morning when it is dark can be tough :-)

I’ve fished with Kona cowboy 3 times and have never had a bad experience. The captain and crew are always friendly and are willing to adapt to the fishing and weather conditions to make the experience the best they can.

We had an amazing experience on the Kona cowboy. We have gone out three times and have always caught something cool! We plan booking with the Kona cowboy many more times in the future.

Let me say that I am born and raised Hawaiian and this experience was the best I have had so far. Not only were Capt Shawn an expert but we were privileged to have his son Sawyer on deck to help us fish. Both super experienced and I came away with fish and more importantly knowledge of the craft. Mind and belly full!

We had a great time fishing with Capt. Shawn and Mate Judah on the Kona Cowboy! 15 minutes after leaving harbor my wife hooks and lands a 375 lbs Marlin with excellent instruction from the crew. I took lots of pictures and released. 1 hour later my Daughter, Age 15, caught a 35lbs Spearfish, and on the way in to Harbor we hooked again and this time was a 350 lbs Marlin that I got to fight and release! This truly was a trip of a lifetime, and I cannot thank the crew enough! They are a first class operation and I will DEFINITELY be back to fish again. If you’re visiting Kona or close to Kona and want to fish, then definitely give the Kona Cowboy a call!

Capt. Shawn and his deck hand Judah were great. The boat was older but well maintained and ran immaculately. In a half day session we had 6 opportunities to catch both blue and black marlins!!! How awesome is that? We were instructed by them on what not to do and what to do in a kind and considerate way as well! I highly recommend the Kona Cowboy! We did land one beautiful blue striped marlin!!!

I can’t say enough good things about the trip with Capt. Shawn and Hannah. They did a wonderful job guiding us on our first deep sea fishing trip. One son caught a 400# marlin and my other son caught a 150# marlin all in one morning. The trip was my sons favorite activity on the vacation and can’t stop talking about it. They were so good with the family and making us all feel welcome.

I can’t recommend Captain Shawn and Deck Leader Kim high enough. Caught one Blue Marlin (released) - and hooked another big one for a really fun fight. Don’t let the small number of reviews make you question signing up with this team - this is a relatively new business but because of the years and years of deep sea fishing experience both Shawn and Kim bring to the experience, you really can’t beat a trip with this team. The boat is fantastic, and the warm and open conversation is even better! And they know how to find fish! Thanks Shawn and Kim for an unforgettable experience! Next trip to the island will definitely include a fishing trip on your boat! Unless I can convince my wife to go again this trip. Mahalo nui!

Capt Shawn and Kimberly are awesome hosts! We had so much fun, that while on the boat, I texted my coworker that I'm never coming back to reality (if only that were true). We did a little over everything. Fished, stopped to snorkel at Capt. Cook, swam with dolphins, saw some humpback whales, and did some much needed relaxing. Kimberly is professional photographer and we got some awesome shots of our time on the boat. I can't recommend them enough.

We trolled for the first couple hours and caught a nice striped marlin, which our deckhand promptly cleaned and packaged up for us. Then they went to the "fish cage", so the kids could put some lines in the water and man did they have fun! They were each able to catch a couple nice size tuna and our deckhand, Hannah cleaned those for us too! I really liked the cushions they put on the end of the rods, it made it easier for the kids to hold. The boat was extremely clean and I was very thankful for the coffee maker :) They also have everything you need if you forgot something, even toothpaste and toothbrushes! no excuses kids lol. The most considerate people I have ever had the fortune to pick for a charter. Needless to say, we will be back and we are going to tell everyone we know about the "Cowboy".
