Haleakala Sunset And Astronomy Tour

Trish was an amazing host. She gave us a lot of information about the area and was knowledgeable about astronomy. The sunset was incredible, and we saw star clusters, Saturn, and andromeda through her telescope. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at the crater.

A five-star experience! We saw silver sword plants (aluminum-shiny!), a number of constellations through Trish’s big telescope, and the starry starry Milky Way. We sat in chairs Trish provided, wearing warm jackets she also provided, and watched one of the most gorgeous sunsets I have ever seen. Clouds floating on a sea of clouds. A vivid sunset of red and gold, changing to apricot and deep blue. Then, hand-warming cups of hot chocolate… Trish was so helpful and informative about Haleakala, the vegetation and wildlife, and all things Maui. Layer up! Go!!

The whole experience was amazing! From when we first arrived for pickup to ending our night. Trish made sure any everything that was needed was taken care of!

The sunset and Star gazing tour was wonderful. Our guide Trish is a gem. She supplied warm coats and hot drinks, because it gets pretty chilly up at 10,000 feet! She is very knowledgeable about the fauna and flora in the area. The best part was the Star gazing after the beautiful sunset. Trish had a telescope and showed us various stars, planets and galaxies. She pointed out constellations as well. Bring your camera! I also want to mention how safe we felt on the drive up and down the mountain on that curvy road. Kudos to Trish and this tour!!

Trish was an amazing guide, tour was beautiful and fun, seeing the stars at night was awesome through a telescope and the sunset was amazing! Definitely a cold one but plenty of ski wear supplied! Dress warm

Trish was amazing! Had lots of amazing insight on the constellations and stars + a powerful telescope; also took us up to see the most beautiful sunset during the tour; she also provided heavy jackets to keep us warm during the tour

Dress WARM. Trish has extra warm coats and at least one blanket but think about windy, 40 degree weather. No one can control the weather and we happened to show up in a cloudy night. I can see that if you had clear skies how extraordinary the views would’ve been. The sunset was spectacular despite the clouds. Trish provided hot tea and hot chocolate which really helped keep us warm. She was very knowledgeable about the plants, stars, and the area we were traveling through in general. Trish has led a very interesting life and is a great storyteller and whether all the stories were true, or not, we enjoyed them immensely. LOL She has a 10 person passenger van that is on the new side and very clean. She brought a telescope that be wonderful on clear evenings to look through. I’m a bit of a germophobe and the jackets she loaned us felt clean. Could you do this trip on your own without going through Viator? Yes. But you will have missed the history of the area, the history of Maui, and tons of information about the plants and animals that live in the area. If I had to do it all over again, I would still pay the money to do this trip.

Truly unique experience. I’ve never seen stars so clearly in my life. It was great fun to see the crater and the park at sunset. Different perspective. Trish was an excellent guide. She was so accommodating to reschedule us for a day with optimal viewing conditions. Fair warning: if you easily get car sick, be prepared with whatever remedy works for you.

Unique experience- more than I expected. The guide, Trish, provided all we needed and was so knowledgeable about Haleakala and the stars, pointing out many specific ones and brought a large telescope - we stayed quite a long time after sunset exploring the stars from a number of vantage points. It was a great activity.

The Haleakalā stargazing tour was amazing! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the stars and the local color that Trish provided. While it was a bit cloudy up top, a condition that is very rare, Trish did a great job showing us around and brought us down out of the clouds to see the stars better and we got a great view of the entire Milky Way and an awesome view of the Maui Valley and west side at night. The large van is new and quite comfortable, and the parkas, hats and gloves were warm and necessary on this windy night on the mountain. We have been stargazing on the Big Island from Mauna Kea, and this tour compares quite well. (Biggest difference is that Haleakalā is 2k feet lower, with a much smoother ride to the top and less negative elevation side effects. Thank you, Trish! We would highly recommend this tour and we would also recommend driving to the summit during the day for yourself as there is a lot to see and do in the daylight including wildlife, interesting plant life and plenty of walking/hiking.

Sunset on Haleakala is not to be missed! And I wouldn’t make the trek to the peak without Trish as my guide. Her van is spacious, clean and comfortable, and I felt very safe with her behind the wheel. It’s a challenging drive in both directions and she knows what she’s doing! She provides everything you need to be comfortable at the peak: chairs, coats, gloves, and hot drinks. Don’t underestimate how cold it is up there! And once the sky darkens, you realize that her knowledge of the stars is impressive! She has a huge telescope and will share her expertise with everyone in your group. I’m so glad we took this tour with Trish!

Genuinely an incredible and memorable experience. Trish has a phenomenal knowledge base not just of Haleakala and as a stargazing guide but also of the island in general as she has lived here for decades. Everyone coming to Maui should experience this and we will do it again the next time we visit.

This tour was amazing! In addition to seeing the beautiful sunset, we were also able to stargaze and see the Milky Way. Trish is so knowledgeable and passionate about the crater and stars, and it shows. She was able to point out so many fun facts about the crater, wildlife, and the constellations. She also provided chairs, warm jackets, gloves, and hats if you needed, and had hot chocolate or hot tea for when it was time to gaze at the stars. Would highly recommend this tour. This was one of our favorite experiences in Maui.

Highly recommend this tour! After a 90 minute drive up, you see this awesome, other worldly crater - as well as the peaks of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on the Big Island. After a spectacular sunset - that you see fully to the end, watching the stars come out and the moon rise was stunning. Trish is super knowledgeable - the hot chocolate and warm jackets were really appreciated!

Trish had great enthusiasm for her craft and country. She had vast knowledge about Haleakalā, the stars and local plant and animal life. The sunset was beautiful and being able to see the lunar eclipse was an unexpected plus. I would definitely recommend her tour.

Absolutely amazing evening! We counted 9 rainbows on our drive up to the summit. The sunset atop Haleakalā was breathtaking and the stargazing was the cherry on top! This was one of the highlights of our trip to Hawaii. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable about both Maui and astronomy. The sunset was amazing, and I have never see so many stars - you are at 10k feet and above a third of the atmosphere. We're planning to do this again when we go back to Maui in December.

We had a great experience with Trish on this tour. Trish was very knowledgeable and provided all the necessities to make out sunset and star gazing tour AMAZING. The transport Trish provided in her bus was super comfortable and clean and new. Trish was engaging with the whole group and made everyone feel included. Trish was a great guide and a wealth of knowledge. Unfortunately on the day we went up the mountain, the weather did not cooperate and we were unable to see anything due to poor visibility. Planning on coming back next chance I get in hopes of better weather.

Trish was awesome and very knowledgeable!!!! She told us all the stories and facts. She came prepared and got us seated at the best spot for the sunrise. After we got a private tour of the rest of the trails and a look at the stars! This was awesome and I would recommend. Make sure to wear closed toed shoes and pants. It does get cold up there.

Above the clouds spectacular night sky show with a very nice informative guide my fiance struggled a little with the altitude as she is a recovering cancer survivor with lymphoma our guide and others made sure she was taken care of and we both had a great time. Highly recommend this activity

We had an amazing time on the Haleakala Sunset Tour with Star Gazing! The views from the summit were breathtaking and the stargazing afterward was unforgettable. It was awesome seeing both the Big Dipper and Southern Cross at the same time in the night sky. Our guide, Trish, was wonderful, friendly and knowledgeable. She shared so much information about Maui, Haleakala, and the night sky and made sure everyone was comfortable (she provided winter coats and hot chocolate) and having a good time. Very educational, knowledgeable, and accommodating—our tour guide, Trish, was fantastic. She reached out on the day of our tour to let us know the weather might not be ideal and offered us the option to reschedule or receive a refund. We chose to reschedule because we really wanted to do the tour, and it worked out perfectly. She gave us plenty of advance notice along with helpful guidance on what to expect and how to prepare, which made everything easy - especially traveling with kids. We ended up not going as I caught cold and congestion the night before, however, I am very happy about the clean communication with Trish and subsequent prompt, hassle-free cancellation and full refund for all 3 of us.

This experience was awesome. Trish was extremely knowledgeable about many topics. She provided facts about Maui and the mountain during the drive and was happy to answer any questions. When we arrived she passed out jackets and chairs and we made our way over to watch the amazing sunset. She then set up her telescope and we all took turns looking at planets and constellations. The sky was filled with the most stars I’ve ever seen. I wasn’t expecting to learn nearly as much as I did. It was a great time and I highly recommend booking this tour.

Trish was an amazing guide with so much to share about the park and the sky. She got us up safely and was very educated on all parts of the park and history. She took us to the best spots of the park on top and let us take our time. The views were spectacular. We are so happy we went for the sunset visit instead of sunrise to get a better view of the sky. She had a telescope that added an amazing view of some planets and stars. Would highly recommend this tour to everyone!

Our tour guide, Trish, had to cancel the tour due to bad weather, namely very high winds. She offered us an alternative date but we were unavailable then due to having to fly home. Trish was very good at keeping us informed of the situation. We offered her a sizable tip due to her trouble but she refused that. Trish was exceedingly good and we shall greatly miss being able to go on the tour with her. Hopefully we can go with her on a future trip.

A highlight of our vacation. The tour is carefully executed. From weather monitoring, comfortable and drive up the Haleakala Summit in brand new Ford van, to warm clothing for each individual in the group. We get to the summit early enough to setup our camping chairs in best location for viewing the sunset. The star-gazing part quite cool. Trish is like a great astronomy teacher. Very pleasant tour guide with a lot of stories to tell about Haleakala, Maui and even Hawaiian culture.

A must do in Maui. Best sunset and star gazing you will ever see at the same time. Highly recommend this tour!

Excellent evening trip. Beautiful sunset. Clear skies with geat views of the Milky Way. Trish had warm parkas and hot chocolate as it was cold. Also able to see the exhibit at the summit and the Silver Swords that were in bloom.

Oh. My. Stars! This tour was fantastic! Our guide, Trish, drove us up to the summit of Haleakala - an adventure in itself as the windy and narrow road took us up above the clouds. From there we watched the sunset and the sky turn orange and green. Once it was dark, Trish set up her telescope and we saw the Moon, Saturn, and the Andromeda Galaxy up close! The stars and Milky Way were easy to see without the telescope. An amazing experience with an extremely experienced guide.

This tour was INCREDIBLE - quite out of this world! The true star of the tour was our wonderful guide Trish. She was so knowledgeable on everything related to Maui, astronomy, and Haleakala. She was so kind and came prepared with winter jackets, gloves, and hot chocolate for us to stay warm (it gets very cold up on top of Haleakala). It was a little cloudy and almost a full moon but thanks to Trish’s telescope, we were still able to see some stars, Saturn, and the moon. This tour was definitely a highlight of our honeymoon to Maui - would definitely recommend and would book again with Trish!

The ride up was just gorgeous. Our guide, Trish, offered lots of interesting information about the land and history. When we got to the top Trish had nice, warm jackets and snow pants along with gloves and hats for everyone. We needed them! Unfortunately some unexpected bad weather moved in that hindered our view, but we kept going and saw (and smelled!) some Silver Sword flowers. The weather cleared some on the way down and we stopped for some incredible stargazing. Trish was so knowledgeable. All in all it was quite an adventure despite the weather.

It's cold at the top so dress warm. Our guide was exceptionally kind, knowledgeable, and professional. We learned so much. Of everything we did in Maui, this was by far the most memorable and impactful. We'll never forget this night!
