The driving directions were easy to follow . Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. She answered everyone s question she had hands on samples for all to hold and see . The sampling was a hard choice they had lots of flavors to choose from. A lot of fun
We had a great, informative, enjoyable tour and tasting at Hala Tree. The experience started with a tour of the plantation, which featured the coffee trees but by chance there were also some other Hawaiian fruits and nuts that grow on the grounds that visitors can sample. (It's a very informal tour, which we found enjoyable.) The tour then progressed into the overview of the harvesting, processing/drying, and roasting of the beans. We've done a Kona coffee tour before; this was more involved and discussed some drying processes that are less common and produce unique flavor profiles we had not experienced before. Tasting of those coffees is not free, but otherwise the tour and tastings is free. They do request signing up but we arrived 15 minutes after the hour, joined a tour in progress, signed up for the next tour, and completed the first half of the next tour. As I mentioned, they are pretty informal about the tour process and we found it very relaxed and enjoyable.
Our guide was very personable and knowledgeable. She was friendly and kindly answered all our questions. We learned a lot and had a great time.
Wonderful coffee farm tour. Not only did we see the coffee trees during harvest season with cherries, but also several other fruit trees including breadfruit, mango, guava, and macadamia nuts. The tour was very informative and can't be beat since it's free. We did choose to add a coffee flight at the end of our tour which cost $15. I've always wanted to try Peaberry coffee and it was quite lovely.
Very fun! The young lady who gave the tour was very knowledgeable about coffee and the whole process. Definitely recommend!
Super cool coffee tour with a great host. Warm and enthusiastic.. the coffee was amazing. Thanks Kat!
This coffee tour was a wonderful experience. The duration was perfect, not too short and not too long. We were able to see the coffee trees, pick a berry and enjoy a nice tasting at the end of the tour. We learned a ton about coffee and really enjoyed the entire experience. Thank you Hala Tree!
This was a fantastic tour! The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The farm was adorable. I learned a lot from the tour and thoroughly enjoyed it, even though I’m only an occasional coffee drinker. There were free samples before the tour started, and options for specialty tasting afterwards at a very affordable price. We also had the opportunity to meet other travelers from around the world. The tour itself was free and very complete. I would recommend to anyone visiting the island.
Very knowledgeable and friendly, they offered a lot of samples and really explained the entire grow to brew process.
We had such a great time on the coffee farm tour! Our guide was incredibly friendly and informative, and we learned so much about the coffee-growing, roasting and production process. We also got six complimentary drinks to try—two hot coffees, two cold brews, and two teas—which was such a nice touch. The farm was absolutely beautiful, and sitting on the lanai relaxing and tasting all the different drinks was one of our favorite parts. The coffee was so good that we ended up buying some to take home with us! Definitely a great experience and something we would recommend!
What a great way to spend an hour! The tour was short enough to keep it interesting and the Kona coffee sampling at the end was amazing!
Hala Tree Coffee Farm Tour was an ok “tour”. It was priced fairly and included some tasty samples but the tour was no more than a walk up a path near some coffee trees. The guide was very friendly but the owners seemed a bit indifferent. They do have a nice retail space though.
What a great experience! Our tour guide was so friendly and knowledgable. We spent about 30 minutes in the farm learning all about coffee, and then about 30 minutes sampling beans. Would absolutely recommend, and a great bang for your buck!!
This was a fun, quick coffee farm tour with great views, a coffee tasting and delightful chickens and dogs. We left with coffee and tea - yum!
Cute small coffee farm, learned a lot about the process of growing, harvesting, and roasting coffee!
We really enjoyed the farm tour and learning about how coffee is made. We had the half flight at the end. The coffee was spectacular. Ginger the dog was the star!
This tour was not very long, but because the group size was so small, the experience was very personal and questions easily answered. Our guide knew a lot about this small family farm and shared it well. A great experience! The 1/2 flight of French press coffee was also amazing.
Very informative and the tasting was a great way to wrap up the tour!! The farm has a lot of history and our guide was very knowledgeable in all of it. Proud Hala Tree investors!
A short yet wonderful tour that shares the history of the coffee farm and the surrounding plants. The coffee samples were wonderful, and the views made the experience even better. Overall, it was a fantastic experience.
The tour guides were great. Wonderful experience. This is a small operation and a relatively short tour.
Great experience. The host was friendly and welcoming. They explained us the process of cherry to coffee bean. There were some really good coffee flavors available for testing. It’s a nice cozy location. Also kid friendly.
We have done this tour 4-5 times and it never disappoints. All of the folks at Hala Tree are super friendly and knowledgeable. The coffee is amazing (do the tasting sampler) as well as the tea. It’s in a beautiful location and I recommend to anyone traveling to the Kona area.
Amazing tour. Sabrina was knowledgeable and passionate about coffee. Would highly recommend this tour. Coffee was excellent
Short walk up a steep, uneven slope, but not too difficult. Very knowledgeable and friendly guides!!
Very knowledgeable and personable guide. Learned more about coffee than I imagined existed. I would definitely recommend this tour.
Very informative! Great coffee!! Be prepared for the coffees best growing climate, cloudy and humid. You will also need to walk up a small but steep embankment.
Great tour on the history of coffee on the island as well as the process of growing and cultivating the beans. Very informative and great coffee tasting!
Our host was amazing. She was so informative and the coffee was amazing. The view of the ocean we had while tasting and Sticky made the trip one to remember.
This was one of our favorite activities of our vacation week! It’s an adorable little farm and super cute and chic set up in the kiddie of the Kona coffee belt. If you book on the site directly they have different pricing. We spent about an hour and a half there first on the tour, and then sampling and tasting. They were roasting coffee and it smelled amazing the whole time. You will learn everything you need to know about coffee and then some! Highly recommend!
We had a fun tour at Hala coffee. It was a free tour. We sampled some very good coffees. I purcasged some coffee extract & a cork bottomed coffee mug. We also sampled some coffee with the coffee press. C
Was a great 1 hour tour. Was informative and the coffee was great. Didn’t know booking came with a 1/2 flight so that was a nice surprise.
Small tour, just a short walk, which was perfect for the kids, and very knowledgeable. We also did a tasting, and were very surprised at how different some of the fermenting and roasting processes made the flavors so different.
Tour was less than an hour and can be done free or $10 per person gives you 3 half flights of coffee to try...which we did. Learned a lot about growing, harvesting and 3 ways that beans are prepared. Very informative. There are also several different varieties of fruit trees on the property. We purchased some coffee to take back to the mainland and enjoyed our 3 flights and experiencing the subtle differences. Beautiful views of the coastline from the property as well.
Top notch tour and a super friendly and educational experience. The tour guide was great and the tasting was exceptional. Recommend to everyone and anyone interested.
The Hala Farm Coffee Tour is as real as it gets! From the maintenance of the coffee trees to the curing of the beans to the processing of harvesting and roasting the beans to the various methods to produce specific coffees. Kat was extremely skilled at teaching the various aspects of the 100 year old coffee farm with o delightful sense of humor!!! Beautiful guest house to peruse and sample at the end!
It was a pleasant private tour of a coffee farm. The host was knowledgeable and fun. It was a great way to spend an hour or two. Coffee was delicious also!
Hala Tree Coffee Farm Tour was scheduled through Trip Advisor at a low cost of $10/person, and included a free sampling of selected coffees for the three of us. My daughter and grandson love coffee and they enjoyed the tour and tasting. We all bought coffee to take home and when my daughter used up her two bags of Hala Tree Coffee, she even ordered more online. Just for info...the tour was mostly a one hour verbal, but informative, explanation of the farm's history, the coffee growing process, and coffee tasting. We stayed within a 30 yard radius of the welcoming area at all times. We saw a one acre plot of coffee plants, an old, unused coffee bean sorter, and a tasting room. The farm cultivates multiple larger plots in the area, but this spot was the old initial farm and acreage. I've been on coffee farm tours that cost $40-$60 each, where you saw more of the actual process. However, this was a great and inexpensive way to learn about and taste Hawaiian coffee while waiting for your flight home.
We had such a lovely time learning about Hala Tree farms, and the Kona coffee making process. I wish I remembered her name, but our tour guide was friendly, informative, and enjoyed what she did. We really learned a lot: from the trees and the crop itself, to processing, roasting, and how different varieties & flavors are made. I don't even want to spoil any details, but if you're into coffee - I believe you'll find it fascinating. The best part was being out on the shaded wood deck... and getting to pick 3 different flavors to try. Then you sit on a sofa with a beautiful view... and sip hot Kona to figure out what flavors you like the most!
The tour was very informative. We had no idea that there were so many steps and ways to create different flavors from the same coffee bean without adding anything to it. Our tour guide, Sabrina, was delightful.
It was very informative regarding the process of growing, harvesting and roasting the coffee. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable. It was a great experience. I highly recommend it.
The tour provided an excellent review of the coffee life cycle. The best part was visiting with other couples to sip coffee and tea at the end of the tour. We learned about their lives, as well as activities they enjoyed on the island. As a result, we went to Onizuki visitor center on Mauna Kea and enjoyed a spectacular view of the stars.
It was very educational. Try to go during the 6 month harvesting season when you can see the berries and/or flowers on the trees and the actual process in motion. The tasting was wonderful and plentiful. (If you book through Tripadvisor, you get the tasting for free. )
Learned how coffee is picked and processed to create various tastes. I had no idea that coffee looks more like a ripe cherry at harvest.
Was a fabulous hour to learn about how coffee is grown & harvested. The manager who explained everything was amazing. Plus the coffee was excellent
This experience was an amazing intimate tour! The coffee was top notch and the staff were so helpful and knowledgeable! Would go back in a hearbeat!
Cute little coffee farm. Sabrina was super knowledgeable about the plants and coffee production. The flight tasting was the highlight and great fun! Highly recommend and would book again.
The tour was very well done and the girl that gave us the tour was very friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was the perfect scenic escape! The coffee was fantastic!
Very informative, beautiful site, great coffee! Hala Tree is engaged in all aspects of harvesting and processing.
Hala was a grass roots way to learn all about Kona Coffee, how it's grown, how it's harvested, how it's distributed, and then how to prepare a cup of coffee the right way. Sabrina was our guide, and she was exceptional. While there were some questions that stumped her, she was up front about that given her work for Hala. Worth every penny!
