Group Surf Lessons From Kaanapali Beach

went out today for a surf lesson they gave us rash guard , water shoes to use and went over how to get up and what to do on land. Then walked us over the were the boards and we hooped on in water

It was a great experience. We were guided by Devin and he did a great job getting us rookies surfing the waves. I highly recommend!

Choose another company, I learned the hard way, They were cheap got what I payed for, didn’t get very much help, just rushed through

I tried surfing for the first time ever in Hawaii! I had such a blast in the group lesson and met a lot of nice people! The instructor’s Devon and Theo were very friendly and knowledgeable about surfing and they were very encouraging to everyone as most of us were all newbies. I highly recommend this experience to anyone looking to try something new and get out of their comfort zone. I will say it is quite the workout to paddle out to the waves and does get exhausting. If you are aren’t in decent physical shape and very comfortable around the ocean I would caution you for safety to make sure this is something you are comfortable doing. It was a blast and I can’t wait to go back to Maui and try again!

I had an amazing surf lesson in Maui! The instructor was fantastic—very friendly, patient, and encouraging. I felt comfortable from the very beginning and learned a lot while having so much fun. It was one of the highlights of my trip to Maui. I highly recommend this surf school to anyone looking for a great experience!

It was quite an exciting day for us, with lots of wind and big waves. Our instructor Devon made us feel safe at all times and was awesome at helping us catch some waves. Even if standing up was tough due to the big and fast waves, we had an amazing experience and managed to surf a bit! 10/10 would recommend and book again!

The instructor was very friendly and helpful to me and my teenage kids. Would definitely recommend. Nothing I would change about the experience.

My kids did the 7:30am slot. There were not a lot of opportunities (not a lot of waves) so I would recommend the later slots. Also, my daughter was way behind everyone heading out and they didn’t stick with here or check on her. Did both my kids learn to surf, yes. They asked to rent boards the rest of the trip. But I would suggest a guide at the front and back of the group especially with the younger teens

They had a good time with knowledgeable guides. Was nice that they offered us chairs while we waited.

Fantastic experience! My son and his friend have been surfing a few times, but wanted some tips to help them improve. Steve was great, they got a lot out of this lesson. Definitely recommend booking this lesson!!

My husband and I decided to try surfing on our honeymoon. We had an awesome experience. Surf conditions were not optimal that day, but our super experienced instructor Steven found a way to make it happen. Instructions were broken down in a way we could understand. Was able to get up on multiple waves. We had a lot of fun and would highly recommend to anyone wanting to try surfing. 🤙

This could have been better and we really didn't feel we got our money's worth. First, I felt the group size was too large. We had 12 surfers in our group and the area in the water where the waves were large enough to surf was quite small. In addition, there were also other groups and individuals in this same location creating a lot of congestion. Our family of 4 were only able to ride 4 waves each in 1.5 hours. The guides were very nice and friendly, but I would advise moving away from this beach for a more enjoyable lesson.

The group lesson had way to many people in it. Most people only got to do 3-4 waves ( some of that was due to people not following the instructions given). HOWEVER, the staff were AMAZING. I had no complaints about them. They taught us well and Everyone in the lesson were able to stand as a result. I would highly recommend them if they made the groups smaller.

First time to try surfing and the instructors were great! I so enjoyed the lesson and was able to get up and ride my first wave in, which felt great! The instructors were super helpful at explaining for "first timers" and made us feel we could do it! I would highly recommend this group lesson to others visiting Maui.

Every staff member was so friendly and helpful. It was our first time surfing and all of us were able to catch a couple waves standing on the board!! I would totally do this again coming back to Maui.

Instructors were goated, surfing was awesome, the waves were decent hopefully next time they will be a little better but all in all great experience

We had a great time learning the basics of surfing. Devon was fantastic and would be a great instructor for any level of surfing. Of course, Mother Nature decides if you have great waves or not. Ours were lackluster but still super fun. Make sure you put sunscreen on the back of your legs!

Very nice intro to surfing. My 17 year old son enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the water was a bit crowded. But it is also near a nice outdoor mall to grab a coffee while you watch!

Steve was great and helped us catch all the waves! Really appreciate him actually teaching us how to surf and not just pushing the board/hoping for the best. Would highly recommend !

The staff was very accommodating. I was worked in on short notice. Keali’l Frias was an excellent instructor. He was very patient and encouraging. I had a great time and will try it again on my next trip to Maui. Mike from Oklahoma.

We had a really awesome group surf lesson with Christian! It was so much fun. Well worth the money. I felt prepared and safe the entire time. I was nervous for the first run, but it was so much easier than expected. The photographer took awesome photos as well. There were whales breaching right behind us that morning. We had so much fun, we were debating getting another surf session in before we left, but we ran out of time.

Super fun morning surfing. Excellent instructor who was helpful with wave selection & knowledge of the reef! Got up first wave no problem!

Good experience for kids, gave them a taste of surfing. A bit short time to learn surfing. But overall good experience.

Great surf lessons, provided basket for personal items, provided surf shoes and shirts and the instructors were terrific.

Our 2 teenagers took the group lesson. All the staff was very helpful and great for the kids. They were surfing as soon as they were in the water. I'd definitely recommend it to our friends and family!

Family of 5 beginners worked with Steven, Devin and Tyler. Very knowledgeable and wonderful teachers! They were so patient and kind. Put us on some great waves and everyone in our group had the opportunity to get up and surf! I would highly recommend these guys.

Went solo, had a lot of fun! My instructor was Keali’i. He was very friendly, and encouraging. It was a lot harder than I expected but Keali’i always gave me tips, helped me paddle, never discouraged me and eventually I was able to stand up successfully. Would recommend. Also got some pretty fun photos (extra charge but so worth it)

An awesome first time experience surfing. We were visiting on honeymoon and decided to make a last-minute addition to our trip. Booking and communication was easy. A beach walk away from our resort. Our instructors were great and we felt fully equipped and safe throughout the lesson. They gave us pointers after each run to make the next better. We recommend buying the photo package. So fun to see how we looked! Would highly recommend.

Devon was an awesome surf instructor! Everything was on time and went smoothly. They provided the surfboard rashguard and booties. Caught a few waves and definitely recommend to anyone wanting to surf!!

I got a group lesson from Devon last week. We were lucky because there were just two people in our lesson. I had tried surfing lessons a couple of times before and had not been successful. Devon did a great job giving us a quick safety briefing and basic tutorial on the shore. Mainly he showed us the steps to go through when "popping up." Then, we walked down the beach to the reef area, which is where the surfable waves are. We took turns trying to surf. Each time, Devon would give us a push to get us into the right spot on the wave. After about 4 or 5 tries, I managed to stand up successfully for a brief moment. A few more pointers from Devon (take it slow, don't look at your feet, keep your feet centered, etc.) and I actually managed to ride a wave almost to the beach. I was really happy to get that far, especially when compared to my previous attempts. Sea Maui loaned me a long sleeved rash guard to wear, which is important (my shirt was short sleeved, and that will give you a rash). They also had water shoes available. In general, at least this time of year, it seems that early morning is the better time to surf. My lesson was from 9:30 to about 11 or so, and after that, the wind picked up, and the waves were not so good for surfing. There was a photographer (Max) on the shore, and he will sell you pictures of your adventure. He's not associated with the Sea Maui Surf company, though. He's pretty good. I ended up buying my photos. Devon was a wonderful and patient teacher, and he even helped drag us sometimes when we got too tired to paddle (there was a stiff breeze / current pulling us out of position all the time). The owner of the shop (Gabriel) was also very friendly, both in person and when I was trying to arrange the lessons by phone. I highly recommend Sea Maui Surf if you are interested in learning how to surf.

Surfing with Danny was amazing! We had alot of fun! They provided us with water shoes, swim shirts, and a surf board! We got up on the first try thanks to Danny's instruction and help! We even saw turtles swimming around between waves. It was an incredible experience. There was even a photographer available for a fee to take photos of us surfing-which turned out amazing.

A fun morning with K. He was friendly, enthusiastic, patient, and competent and the weather and waves were perfect. All 3 of us stood up multiple times though we ended up sunburned and I had sore ribs (from all that paddling). However, all in all it was a memorable time, thank you Sea Maui Surf!

Surfing is addictive! Mark was an amazing instructor, and the conditions were perfect. I was able to adapt all levels for our family & made it a wonderful adventure

We had K as an instructor and we couldn’t have asked for a more motivating, professional person. Father, Daughter and Son booked a 90 min Surf lesson from a Google search and we couldn’t be more happy with the experience. My only recommendation would be, as Canadians… we do not have the option of using Venmo to pay a tip. PayPal is a service most Canadians use. Thank you for making our first trip to Hawaii so memorable.

The paddling is the hardest part. You have to be in excellent physical condition to handle the paddling. Also, if you're prone to motion sickness, take a Dramomine before. But the teacher was very kind and did everything he could to be helpful.

Me and my 16 year old daughter did this together. It was a highlight of our trip! Our instructors were fantastic, and we both got up on our boards and surfed for the first time! If we had more time, we would have tried to do it again!!!

So much fun!!! Devin knew his stuff and was committed to our safety. Getting out on the waves was such a great way to experience the island!
