We had SO MUCH fun!! Turner was a great instructor! We all got up on our boards and rode a couple of waves! Highly recommend! 🤙🏼

As we were staying at the Kaimana Beach Resort, Kai's school couldn't be more convenient, as it's just by the front lobby. Our daughter had never surfed before, and Turner had her up and flying within minutes of hitting the water. Kaimana Beach is a wonderfully safe and uncrowded stretch south of the main Waikiki tourist crush, with good beginner and intermediate waves. The camera attached to the front of the boards made for some great photos and videos to remember it all. Our daughter really appreciated Turner's patience and skill in teaching. Highly recommended!
This is a perfect venue for family surf session. Turner was the best ever what a great guy. Fun, soft safe waves. Not crowded at all
We had a blast. Instructors, Noah, was great. 11 and 13 yr old boys had blast. Very safe, never felt any danger and was able to enjoy the whole session. Adults able to stand in water even though we went out far. Kids were able to stand some times but strapped to floating board. Was safe enough where I let my 11 yr old take off his vest w no worries.
We had a great time and learned a lot. Our instructor was great with our kids (11 & 16) and got both of them up on their boards quickly. We all had a blast.
We enjoyed a fun surfing lesson in a small group. The personalized experience and skilled instructor made it a memorable adventure. However, be prepared to pay an extra $41 per person if you want photos of your experience. It's a bit pricey for a photo package, so keep that in mind when planning your budget.
Being able to experience surfing with my kids mom (44) daughters (11)(15) was amazing. I was able to catch 2 waves as a first timer. Noah the instructor was amazing!
The instructor was great. Mist of us were able to catch our first wave on our first try! He makes sure to set you up and give you a push. He also gave pointers and tips and let us try without the push. I didn't think we'd be able to get around 6 waves each!
Our family of 4 just loved it!! If you are a beginner and need the support from a very professional but relaxed instructor, definitely book this 2hr surf lesson. Our surf teacher Janelle was great! My kids became very comfortable riding waves in no time.
Max, the instructor was brilliant. A very professional teacher. My three kids (11, 15 and 16) and I had a great first time surfing. By the end we were riding the waves like Pros! Max was also really helpful with suggestions for places to visit on the islands. Would take further lessons without hesitation. There’s valet parking outside the shop ($10 for 3 hours), or take your chance with finding a spot on the road.
The instructor was very patient and safety oriented. Good experience overall, but I was hoping for a bit more exposure to catching the wave by yourself rather than the instructor pushing us …it felt more like a souped up boogie board experience….
The best part was the experience, they explained how to surf really well and they made it super easy and fun!
Had such a fun time learning to surf. The instructor made things simple and easy to learn. Taught the basics including how to fall safely
What a memorable experience! We were a couple minutes late, but called for a heads up and there were no issues (parking can be a hassle nearby, bring coins for the meter!) Josh was our instructor, great conversationalist. Everyone in our group got some great waves and the waves were all ours, no one to watch out for or share with. 2hrs is the perfect amount of time to catch as many waves as you want!
Great instructor … had a couple 11 year olds out there and we all managed got up; did not think that was possible your first time surfing. Thanks!
Our family of 5 had an awesome surfing experience with Janelle. We learned how to surf and most importantly, had a blast. 😉 We had a great time!!! Janelle was a great teacher. She’s pleasant, patient, accommodating, taught us a lot of tips how to stand up on the board, how to paddle correctly, how to fall on the water and what to expect w the waves. Hands down best surfing experience in Oahu than we had in Maui 3 years ago!
Kai was great with Our family of four. Our youngest daughter got nervous going out to the surf. Kai was terrific calming her down and getting her surfing. The kids said it was the highlight of our vacation
Had a total blast and everyone in the family was able to catch some waves. Instructor was awesome and even gave us some excellent tips for food and other stuff to do on the island.
Outstanding! We did the group lesson with Jake and had a great time! We will definitely do this again!
Very down to earth, professional and fun experience. Excellent instructor. We learned at an easy spot and could get up on the board on our first wave.
We were looking for beginner surf lessons on our vacation in Waikiki. I checked into Kai Sallas’ Surf Lessons since they had so many great reviews on Trip Advisor. Prices were competitive so we booked a group lesson for 2 adults and 4 minors (10-12). Our instructor, Jake, was awesome and all of us were up on our first wave! Jake talked to all of the kids about their sports and his life surfing. He was very personable with our group and really cared about teaching techniques and getting the most of our experience. We had a great time and all members of our group caught so many waves during our 2 hour window. Highly recommend Jake and his team at Kai Sallas’ Surf School! Best activity from our trip and the kids can’t wait to surf again! Mahalo Jake!!
Sean our instructor was good and seemed toreally know his stuff. He was friendly and helpful. The problem I had was that they allowed us to book a group of 6 and it was way too much for one instructor. If it had been three people per instructor it would have been perfect.
We had a great time as a family. kia was patient, engaging, and gave great instruction! Recommend!!!
Had a really great experience taking a surf lesson with Kai. He was calm, patient and very supportive. Would recommend and would take a lesson here again hands down.
Had an Awesome Hawaiian surfing experience with Kai Sallas' Pro Surf School Hawaii. I booked for a group lesson and managed to get a quiet day with 2 instructors and only 1 other student. We were taken to a quieter beach in Waikiki away from the crowds that had more of a locals feel. My family was able to come along too and watch my lesson from the beach. Everything we required for the lesson was provided (boards, rashies, reef shoes). The 2 instructors were very professional but extremely laid back which made the experience seem like we were getting taught by mates. The instructors truly enjoyed their job and were as happy as we were when we managed to catch a couple of waves. The experience was made even more special by seeing turtles on our paddle out. I would definitely recommend this as a must have Hawaiian experience!
Group lessons were a blast and we learned so much! Very professional and patient, but still laid-back and enjoyable! Had a small lesson on the basics and then went out to a private beach area to surf. They provided rash guards and the boards! Would highly recommend!
Group lesson - 5 people - 3 instructors. Great time. We had private area on beach (a VERY rare thing in Wakik) where instructors were great. Jake made it all enjoyable. Many waves with no danger of hitting anyone- better than Maui experience for that.
Really fun and great instructions from surf teacher Makani. We live here so it is really convenient. I would take again.
Our 12-year-old daughter participated in a semi-private lesson and said it was the best thing we did on vacation in Hawaii. The instructors were positive, encouraging and respectful of the kids, all of whom were riding waves by the end of the lesson. It was very exciting to watch! We couldn't have asked for a better experience and we can't wait to go back. Aloha!
We had a group lesson, but it was midweek noon and so it was just our family of four. Pablo did a great job explaining what we needed to do. We all four are snowboarders but only I had ever attempted surfing before. He drove us to a spot with gentle but consistent waves and no one else around. We were catching waves on our own in no time. Unlike other reviewers, they did provide us with rashguards. Only complaint I have (and its minor) my 13 year old daughter struggled a bit paddling due to width of the 10' board. She's a competitive swimmer, and so she managed, but the board was a little too wide for her.
My brothers and I had a great time. Kai;s Surf was super professional and accommodating. We really liked how they spent the first bit teaching us how to stand up on the board and pointers. They actually make you do it which really helps! Jake was our instructor and was super friendly and personable and we definitely would recommend this to everyone.
My 17 year old daughter described her surf lesson as the best day of her life. The instructors were patient and kind with our large group of girls and by the end of the day all our girls were surfing. They all had a great time and we counted this as a huge success. I cannot recommend Kai Sallas enough they were awesome and the price was unbeatable!! Only thing, if your surfing, bring a rash guard.
Our group of 9, including 5 tweens/teens took a 2 hour morning lesson last week. They were on time to pick us up from the Aulani and all of the staff was friendly. The beach where we were taken was appropriate for beginners but not really scenic (if that is important to you) and there was a sort of homeless camp set up right near us in the bushes. The beach has many large rocks so waves cannot be ridden in to the shore. Two of my kids ended up with big scrapes on their hips near the end of the lesson as they fell against the rocks. I wasn't close enough to see this happen at the time and the staff did clean up the wounds reasonably until we got back to the resort and had some more in depth first aid attention. I don't blame the surf school for this, it is a hazard of being on a rocky coast and unfortunately I don't think there is another choice around Oahu. Overall we were happy with the quality of instruction and location based on the size of the waves there.
