Group Surf Lesson At Ka'anapali Beach

We had an absolutely amazing experience with this surf company! From start to finish, everything was fantastic. The whole team was super friendly, welcoming, and professional, and we immediately felt comfortable. A special shoutout to our surf instructor Kainoe – he was absolutely incredible! 🤙 He was so patient, encouraging, and positive, and explained everything in a way that was easy to understand. He really took the time to make sure we felt safe and confident in the water, while still making the lesson so much fun. Thanks to Kainoe, we managed to catch some waves and had such an unforgettable experience! You can really tell that he loves what he does and genuinely enjoys teaching people how to surf. He made our surf lesson in Maui something we will remember for a long time. We enjoyed it so much that we immediately booked another lesson! Thank you so much, Kainoe, and the whole team, for such an amazing experience! We highly recommend this company to anyone who wants to learn surfing in Maui.

My sister and I got lessons from Nick and had such a great time! He was an incredible teacher and we both had such a fun time out in the water.

Instructors were very helpful and very good with the 6 kids. Because I wasn't cler we had a miscommunication, Nick went out of his way and his two instructors took some extrta time with two of the kids out on their surf boards.

Our family had such a great time! Our girls are 10, 8 and 6 and we made core memories together on the waves. All of our instructors were knowledgeable and so kind. Highly recommend!

This was my 14-year old daughter’s favorite part of our Maui trip. The instructor was very knowledgeable and friendly. It was her first time surfing and she can’t wait to go again.!

Such a fun experience! Our instructor Zach explained everything easily and showed us what to do and what to expect in the water. Once out in the water he helped us through each wave and was cheering us on. Will definitely be book again. I’ve done another group lesson awhile back near here and this experience was so much better. There is also a photographer that takes pictures!

This is the most amazing thing to do especially when traveling with 5 teens! They all had so much fun and they all agreed that was the best experience in our trip! Must do!

The four of us had so much FUN trying out surfing. Nick, the owner, made sure we chose a time that would be conducive to good waves for beginners. We signed up for a group class and had five people with two instructors. That allowed us some time to watch our friends in between going out ourselves. We preferred that since a semi-private or private would require you to be coming in and out for the entire hour and a half which we thought, for us, was too aggressive (we are ages 65-70). What we really liked and thought was super helpful was spending time on the beach practicing each step of getting up on the board. The instructors were very attentive and that practice time really helped make it easier once you got into the water. I wouldn’t hesitate to choose this company for a surf lesson. Look no further.

My friend and I came on one of the windiest days ever, but despite that and our frustration, the instructors never gave up on us and kept us motivated the whole time!

We had the best time at our surf lesson today! The instructors were incredibly friendly and made us feel comfortable right away. They put a big emphasis on safety, which we really appreciated, especially as beginners. They were so patient and encouraging, and made sure every single person in our group got up on a board (which felt amazing!). You could tell they genuinely cared about us having a great experience, not just getting through the lesson. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip We were all smiling the entire time. Highly recommend to anyone thinking about trying surfing!

Our instructor, Nick, was very good and patient. The communication between what was posted on viator, and what we received was not consistent and a little confusing as to where to meet up. Instructions were sent via email from viator, but they were not exactly correct - so we texted with our instructor and it was helpful. There should be a steamlined process of exactly where to meet. Viator told us what to look for and there was none of that. It was Nick on the beach - no table, no umbrella, etc. I'm glad we were able to get in touch with him -otherwise - we would have never been able to find him if following viator instructions. Also - viator should give directions and parking instructions. This is also something we had to figure out on our own. Lastly, what we signed up for included photography options. There are none.. I did not receive any instructions on how to get the "professional photography" that was promised.

A great beginner class! As someone who had never been on a surfboard before, I was standing and riding waves to the shore within the first half-hour. The instructors were relaxed and patient but also clear in their instructions. It was right on Ka'anapali beach, and the instructors picked out a section of the surf with the right-size waves and not too much traffic.

The guys were great and helped our family get the most out of surfing as beginners. Our daughters ended up going out the whole time, even after my husband and I tapped out, and they had a blast. The guys even saved a woman, not in our surf group, from drowning while we were out. Highly recommend this experience. It was really windy the day we were out but it was still a ton of fun.

Amazing! The best part of our trip to Maui was learning to surf. Nick and Reef were amazing. They were great kind, patient, and gave great feedback. By the third wave we were up and standing! Overall, it was simply fantastic! We will definitely be back.

Tour operator was a no show, and has not answered the phone. I called a week before the lesson to confirm, I should have cancelled and switched then because he was rude on the phone.

Great surfing experience! If you pay attention to what he tells you on the beach it makes it easy in the water. Stood up on the first wave. It was so much fun and I would definitely do it again. Clear instructions on where to meet. It was a great time and he’s a great teacher! 🏄🏼‍♀️🏄🏼‍♀️

Great lesson! If you’re going solo, don’t worry, this is a great surf lesson to do. Great for beginners. I just wish there was a photographer to capture us on the water—those pictures would be so cool!

Amazing surf lessons! Both my kids were beginners ((12/10yo)) and loved it. Attentive and thorough staff; entire group was riding waves by second try if not first wave caught. Absolutely would book tours and lessons again with ISA!

Booked this for our kids and myself. Had a great time. Juan and Eric were awesome and always had safety as a top priority. It was good because the swell was pretty big on that day and all the kids were able to catch multiple waves.

The guys were nice and really good with my daughter! They took the group to a spot that was pretty rocky and it was a little rough. Also, if you plan on booking with this company, be mindful of their cancellation policy. They don't accommodate if someone in your party gets sick 3 hours prior to your lesson.

We attempted to surf in tough conditions, felt unsafe, and called it quits after 10 minutes and Nick worked with us to get a full refund and invited us back on a better day.

This is a really fantastic experience if you're looking to learn the very basics of surfing. Nick and his team take you out to the literally the most forgiving waves on the planet, on one of the best beaches in the world. They give you the basics of what you need to get up and surfing on your first few tries. And there's literally nothing to be scared of in this shallow water. This was a great experience and I highly recommend it for anyone visiting Kaanapali beach! TY Nick!

My 8-year-old son and I had an incredible experience with our instructor, Matt. From the start, he made us feel comfortable and confident in the water. His teaching style was both fun and informative. Matt was patient, encouraging, and clearly passionate about what he does. Thanks to his guidance, we were both able to catch some waves and had an absolute blast. If you’re looking for a surf school that’s great for both kids and adults, I highly recommend booking a lesson. We can’t wait to come back!

We signed up a 16 and two 13 year olds. Each had done 1 prior surf lesson so all very inexperienced. We got Matt as our instructor. He was awesome! The kids loved the experience and working with Matt. Would definitely recommend this experience if learning to surf.

Our instructors were easy to talk to and gave great instruction! Our 2 boys both got up and surfed and even did a couple of little tricks! The 2 of us adults that were surfing were both able to get up and surf as well. Would highly recommend this company to all that want to surf!

The instructors were the best! Nick and KDog aka Sensei were so patient and kind. They made sure we knew what to do but also encouraged us when we’d fall off the board. They also had great senses of humor and kept us entertained! If we were here a few more days we’d have booked a second lesson with them. We’re not expert surfers yet but we actually want to continue to learn and take it up as a hobby! We booked the group lesson yet still had so much 1 on 1 time with each instructor. I highly suggest this for families couples or solo adventurers.

Worst surf school in Maui. The surf instructor , nick, only cared about how many people he could fit into a class , not about safety. He is greedy and my child almost got hurt because he was rushing. It wasn’t worth my time or money . I would give this surf school negative stars if I could . The old owner was better when we went last year.

Always wanted to surf and was on a solo trip in Maui. Finally got the courage to try at the ripe age of 38 and the experience probably changed my life. The teachers at ISA are very professional and give compact and precise instructions, nothing extra but everything you need to know when you start. I got along with them really well and they were fun to be around. I’m an athletic person and I’m used to listening to instructions carefully so I felt like I got the hang of it pretty fast and felt very safe the whole time. The waves were perfect for a beginner but still enough to practice the basic moves. It was pretty challenging to find the meeting spot at the Kaanapali Beach because there were so many other surf schools at the same time, but just look for the color of rashguards they tell you they are wearing and come early! The lesson took actually about 1h 15mins but to be fair, I was so sore the next day that it’s not a good idea to surf for hours when you’re not used to it just yet. The only down side of this experience is the price (90$) which is quite high. I’d like to have maybe another lesson before going alone because I’m not familiar with the waters in Maui, but I’m afraid I cannot afford it. :/ But everything in Maui is pricey, so I guess it is what it is. All in all, this is a good experience for anyone who wants to find out if surfing is for them. They provide all the equipment and tips, and as a solo traveller, it’s always safer to join groups first when you try something new. I’m afraid I have been bitten by the surf bug now, and there might be no turning back. Be careful guys ;) And stay loose!

We had a great time surfing on Ka'anapali Beach in Maui. Our instructor Christian was knowledgeable and encouraging. It was a little challenging to find the location to meet for the tour. As there were no signs or flags. After walking to the other end of the beach, we eventually found the correct location. Christian took the time to educate each of us on how to approach each wave. Always reminding us to paddle hard. We would recommend ISA Surf School to anyone who wants to try surfing without leaving Ka'anapali Beach.

I had a great time learning to surf! The instructions to find the meeting spot were vague, so it's probably a good thing they say to arrive 30 minutes before your start time. The instructor called me and directed me to where the tour was starting. There was no yellow umbrella to look out for, which led to my confusion. However the lesson itself was easy to follow and after about 20 minutes we went into the water. Everyone in the session stood up at least once. The instructors were great at finding waves and telling us when to paddle and stand up. Definitely recommend.
