Go Surf Hawai'i (Kona Coast)

This was Ana amazing experience. Our instructor was very easy going and down to earth. We had never surfed before but he gave us a quick lesson on the beach and then took us right out into the water. The best way to learn is by doing, and we got plenty of time to practice getting up on waves. All around a great experience. It was my husband and I and another couple in the group, the 4 to 1 ratio of us and the instructor made it feel very special and gave us a lot of individualized instruction while learning.

Jase was a great teacher and even though the water was relatively flat he still made it a great time and got us on some waves. Very relaxed feel and a great memory for sure! 10/10 would recommend!

This was my first time surfing, and I had a lot of fun! Jase was friendly, funny, respectful, and professional from the start. He brought water shoes, rash guards, and surf boards for everyone. He also kept our valuables safely locked in his truck. That was a big relief. Before entering the water, we did a lesson (on land) about popping up on the board. Each person had several chances to practice and receive individualized feedback. Then we paddled out and Jase helped us catch waves. It was super fun gliding on the water, even if for brief moments at times. Afterward, we rinsed off with fresh sun-heated water that he brought in a large tank in his truck. Jase was super helpful, fun, and safety oriented throughout the lesson. I definitely recommend this event and Jase as a surf instructor.

Jared was great, super helpful and informative. Had great conversations with him on the water as well. Patient instructor and seemed to be having fun with us surfing. Great time, book with him asap.

Although we were not able to surf due to there being no waves that day, our instructor was super upfront and apologetic and offered us alternatives to make sure we had a good experience! very communicative and honest! We will be using this instructor next time

We had such a wonderful experience learning to surf with Jace. I was joined by my kids (7 & 12) and it was a blast! Jace was awesome with them and they both were able to ride waves throughout the lessons. Never once did I feel uncomfortable as Jace was tentative to their needs when it came to safety and catching good waves. We had a great time and I’d highly recommend booking here.

It was great. I booked a group lesson but it was just our family. The instructor was nice and on time. With his help, we all were able to catch a wave and stand. He provided rash guards, water shoes and sunscreen if needed. He even had a fresh water shower in the back of his truck to rinse off after surfing. Highly recommend.

Terrible service. I think his name was Jace- hard to know since he didn’t take us out. He walked by, asked if I was good, and I said yes to such a vague question. He didn’t ask if we were there for a lesson and he disappeared. We asked several other instructors who were in the put-in if they were looking for us. We were there 20 mins before our appointed meeting time, and at 20 minutes after the time another instructor took pity on us and offered to rent us some boards. So we went out with Jay from Local Boys and he was amazing. I asked for a refund from Jace and he told me I chose to leave with another instructor then sent me this text after we spoke on the phone: NO CALL NO SHOW NO REFUND. ALOHA 🤙🏼🤙🏼. I would avoid this poorly communicative and unprincipaled business- Jace doesn’t care about your experience.

I had an incredible experience with this surf school! Jace was patient, encouraging, and explained everything in a way that made learning easy and fun. By the end of the lesson, I was standing up and riding waves! If you're thinking about taking a surf lesson, this is the place to go. Whether you're a complete beginner or just looking to improve, you'll have an amazing time. This ended up being one of the highlights of my trip, and I can't recommend it enough.

We were all beginners and our instructor was so great with us. Clear instructions and lots of knowledge. We were all able to have a lot of fun and get up on the boards. Highly recommend doing it first thing in the morning.

The owner cancelled on us the evening before our booking and said he was overbooked (even though I booked weeks in advance.) it was a disappointment. He did offer to reschedule but it didn't work out. I would book with someone more reliable.

First time ever on a surf board and Jayce was a great coach. Had me up after the first couple waves. Would book again.

The surfing lesson Jace provided was awesome. We booked a semi private 2:1 lesson. My kids had a great time surfing in Kona on the Big Island. Jace is super cool.

Great experience, Waves were super small but we went through with the activity bc the tiny waves were perfect for my 9 year olds first time swimming in on open ocean. The instructor what honest tha the surf sucked and offered to cancel which I 100% respect. He got him standing on the board right away even on almost zero surf and they had a photographer on shore for Grandma to buy pictures.

When weather wasn’t cooperating, Jace rescheduled for another day. We were very happy with his surf teaching skills and attitude.

Never surfed in your life? Have surfed some but want more guidance? Jace is your guy. I ended up with a solo lesson which was great bc I had never surfed before and knew nothing about it. The location is the perfect spot to learn, as it’s a slightly protected bay so the waves are manageable for a newbie. The bay is a coral reef and there are thousands of beautiful fish just under your board as you paddle, and as the waves build they are also full of fish, which is just the absolute coolest to be literally right above and with the fish. We started w the basics on the sand and then progressed to the water. Jace even provided reef shoes and a rash guard for me to wear (both of which I would never have planned on but were super helpful), and then warm fresh water shower after the lesson and some fresh citrus to help settle my head/stomach bc I got a little seasick. Did the trick. I will def call him again when I come back to Big Island.

My husband and I bought this surf lesson for our son's 15th birthday. We already had a Hawaii vacation planned during this time. The coach was AMAZING.. the ad did say it was a group lesson but my son ended up with a solo lesson. My son says this was his favorite part of our vacation. Remarkably, he had our entire group up and surfing by just the second go-round. Jared's approach is perfect; he takes the time to thoroughly explain every technique while remaining incredibly supportive of everyone in the water. His patience and expertise made the whole experience seamless. I would definitely recommend him to anyone wanting to learn and truly experience the joy of surfing. Jace was a great instructor! He was very helpful for my girlfriend who was just learning how to surf and had very useful advice for me since I had already surfed a few times.

Had a really great time learning the basics. The small group was definitely a big plus. Felt like we really maximized our time in the water and amount of attempts because of that. A refreshing drink from some coconuts at the end was a great way to end!

I booked a surf lesson for my husband and two teenagers while visiting the BI in Jan 2026. We were looking for someone to teach the proper technique, skills, and tips for success. Jace accomplished all of those with friendliness and fun. With his guidance, all three of them were able to stand up and surf. Jace was happy to answer our questions and offer advice for equipment rental and local beaches that would be great for the upcoming weather during our stay. I would highly recommend Go Surf for surf lessons. We were very happy with our experience and feel prepared to continue practicing our new sport!

5/5 was very friendly and helpful. I was nervous I wasn’t going to do well but I actually was not half bad. would absolutely do this again.

We easily arrived using the directions provided. Jared was so welcoming and helpful. My blood sugar had dropped significantly and he shared snacks with me before the lesson began. On the water he made sure my baby caught some waves and gave helpful instruction onsite. When the lesson was over, we couldn’t find her glasses, but he stayed with us and helped us look for them even calling the other family surfing with us and discovering they had accidentally picked them up. He waited with us until they returned with them! We were in Hawaii celebrating my baby’s 16th Birthday and this experience was on her wish list. It was by far 10/10 for us ALL! Mahalo Jared💜

You can really tell the instructor just loves surfing, and that passion translates to a really good experience. Definitely the best first surfing experience I could ask for.

Our experience was great! Taught us the basics, and gave us just the push we needed to catch each wave! Very communicative, fun to chat with while waiting on a wave, and even helpful off of the board.

Fantastic! 10 out of 10 stars. I made a few errors booking and the owner was so gracious and accommodating. On the day of the lesson it was very clear where to meet and he taught us exceptionally well - my 12 year old is a much better athlete then me but he even set me up for success . Personally He’s a wonderful person and we really enjoyed talking with him and his vibe. We’d definitely recommend to everyone!

We had a great first surf lesson with Jared, who was so gracious and kind to me and my kids. It was a pretty flat day, yet all three of us got up successfully, and had great conversations with Jared throughout. Great guy and amazing day! The instructor took into account that there were no waves and refunded our money. He was super nice and tried to accommodate our schedule, but the waves were not cooperating. 😭

I was extremely nervous to try surfing but Jarred was so kind and empathetic. His gentle energy was perfect for a timid first timer like myself. He tailored the lesson so my more experienced husband could catch waves and I felt protected and safe the whole time in the water. Jarred gave me the confidence to catch some mini waves and I have the best time doing it. My husband and I had the best time and are so grateful to Jarred. Wonderful experience we highly recommend.
