What an amazing hotel and experience! Super authentic feeling and beautiful. We loved the chefs dinner and the ability to just hang out in the waterfall. If you’re looking for a more natural, once in a lifetime experience, with slightly less convenience of a regular hotel, I’d 10/10 recommend

Itinerary
Join our Chef’s Table at Kulaniapia Falls for an exclusive evening of lovely local-style food and conversation in a casual and gorgeous setting. This will not be a restaurant style experience: we are a small and exclusive local-style venue that sources ingredients daily. Our chefs create each evening’s menu based on what is fresh, local, and in season. Our goal is to present at least 80% Hawaiian ingredients to showcase the bounty and beauty of our islands. Our philosophy is to provide an immersive but unpretentious dining experience where guests learn about local food and culture while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow guests and the awesome natural beauty of Kulaniapia Falls. Chefs will explain the sources of local ingredients, share information about the history of Hawaiian food cultures, and present a series of tasting-menu style dishes to delight all of your senses. When you book through third parties (which you are if you are reading this message), unfortunately, we cannot accommodate any dietary restrictions, so please come prepared to eat anything the chef might dream up.

What a wonderful experience! Our dinner was absolutely fantastic. Chef Rachel provided the most wonderful culinary experience. The food choices were incredible and were full of local farm grown ingredients. Can’t wait to do this again on our next Hawaii adventure. Outstanding!
Chef Rachel made an excellent 5 course meal. I never truly understood what flavor profile meant until we experienced her dining creations. It was truly a unique setting with a waterfall in the background. I don’t know if the waterfall or the meal were the stars of the show. Walk the grounds and see the beauty and then be pampered with a meal fit for a celebrity. Great experience!
The meal was every bit as great as the surroundings. The waterfall was spectacular. The walk to the waterfalls was peaceful and serine. Proper preparation for the following meal.
The event was cancelled by the venue. Not sure why Viator wasn't aware of that and is now asking for a review
Beautiful spot to spend the day. The entire property is magical and exquisite. The waterfall is breath taking! We had a fun relaxing day swimming in the cold clear refreshing pool. One of the best places on the island!
Looked so good on paper…chef’s dinner by a waterfall, but the execution and reality fell really short. 5 courses over two plus hours, a lot of long waits (up to 30 minutes) between some of the courses. When I finally got my entree it was cold and way over salted. I might not have minded the wait so much but my group and the others at the table could hear the champagne popping and loud laughter on the other side of the kitchen so it just seemed like we were not a priority. There was no bread or anything to snack on so we were all really hungry during the wait. I told the chef in advance that it was my son’s girlfriend’s 18th birthday, but no mention was made of it to her nor was there anything special. I ended up asking the table to sing her happy birthday so she wouldn’t be too disappointed. When we left, the kids asked to go to Taco Bell bc they were still hungry. Again - so much potential, the description of the food was great - the execution was not.
Dinner was amazing - come hungry! The courses were incredible and Chef Lisa was personable and shared her in-depth knowledge of local food and its sourcing. The meal was definitely prepared with Aloha. The wine pairing was terrific. We will definitely book again!
One of the best meals I have ever er eaten! Chef Rachel is incredible! The ube creme brulee was amazing! This place is a hidden gem.
Wonderful off the beaten trail resort with authentic hospitality and an incredible property with gorgeous views of the waterfalls
Thoroughly outstanding setting and service. Farm to table food was delicious and the presentation was beautiful. Thanks to everyone
Our flight was cancelled and I immediately let them know. I tried to cancel by the 24th hour and no one reimbursed us. Can you help me get our money back since we are still interested in this tour but a different date sometime this week.
Sitting by the falls, eating locally grown foods prepared by chef Rachel was the highlight of our visit. She has a knack for combining spices to make the most of each course. I especially enjoyed the soup course and the salad which was unlike any beet salad I ever had. And, she has a friend who is a gourmet baker. Save room and if you are lucky, she might be serving flourless chocolate cake when you visit.
Wonderful experience of carefully curated local ingredients --- creative and fun. And the view from the dining area -- overlooking the Falls -- is extraordinary and added to the ambiance. Soup with local mushrooms, and fish with honey sauce were very special.
Chef Rachel was so kind, and cooked us a fantastic meal! Everything we had over the 6 courses was seriously great. It was special, being that there were only 4 diners. We took our time and enjoyed it all. The presentation was wonderful too. Mahalo!
The friendly chef gave us a tasting tour of Hawaii in these dishes made from 80-90% Hawaiian ingredients, some of which were sourced from farms within walking distance. We loved the breadfruit hummus with taro chips, squash soup, sustainable venison chop served with broccolini and local purple sweet potato (SO delicious, with a delicate smoky flavor), flourless Hawaiian chocolate cake and other items I’ve forgotten! They took special requests for non-meat eaters as well. A perfect meal—filling in that good, solid, healthy way, but not leaving us feeling overstuffed.
Our chef (Rachel) was an excellent chef and very personable. It was a wonderful treat. Thanks for the wonderful experience.
We had a wonderful meal - it was a small party (six people total). We all sat at one table overlooking the waterfall. Lisa and Ishan (our chefs) prepared a delicious meal focused on ingredients that were local to the islands. The food was delicious, the timing was perfect, and the company and conversation perfect.
The setting is lovely. The highlight of our stay was our chef’s dinner with Lisa as our chef. She provided wonderful attention to detail and descriptions of the meal and it’s local sourcing. We had a delicious ‘uala (sweet potato) soup (harvested from her garden) and ‘uku (blue green snapper). It is pricey, but worth it.
We were not notified. The chief never showed up to make our anniversary dinner at the waterfall. He canceled. The day before i got confirmation said it was confirmed. But the day of a no show. We went to waterfall and was told. There would be no dinner. I had no time to make i nice dinner arrangements for our 47 anniversary. !!!!!!!
The drive up there goes thru 2 gates, This tells you it will be exclusive and very private. Check in was casual, easy and informative. They give you a quick tour at check in of all available facilities. Room was cozy. Do not expect the Ritz for amenities. But for being next to the waterfall it is outstanding. Bed was comfortable, shower was clean and large. It truly feels like a bed and breakfast in the best setting. You hear the waterfall thru your windows the entire time. We chose to do the Chef's Dinner. It was incredible. The pace was perfect and the food locally sourced and expertly prepared. I would absolutely recommend staying here, but if it is too expensive to stay, at minimum do the day pass. The waterfall and pool to swim in are like nothing you can find elsewhere on the island.
The experience was unique in many ways. The location is way off the beaten path in a lovely area of the Hilo area. Very special personal attention given upon arrival. Birds singing and fireflies lighting. Gentle breezes accompany the spectacular patrio view of the waterfall which is lighted for nightime viewing. Then the 4 extraordinarily scumptous courses prepared by chef Jesse. She lives to please her patrons with local, fresh extra delicious choices for every dish. Her personal dedication to excellence makes this experience a one of a kind memory. *****I have to add that the Viator company caused my sister and myself consternation because they screwed up my reservation by not communicating properly with the host company. Fortunately the hosts handled it with class**** Viator GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER****
It was a disappointing experience. It’s a beautiful setting and the food wasn’t bad, but the meal is terribly overpriced and rushed. We paid $250 per person (including a wine pairing). Starting at 6 30, we were then rushed through 7 courses so that the staff could leave at 8. For $50 per adult, we were provided with 2 bottles of very average white wine and a glass of sparkling wine. Once the staff left at 8 there was no option to order more drinks (and this was not communicated). Overall it was poor value and we wouldn’t recommend this.
The view was amazing. We arrived about 1 1/2 hours prior to dinner and we’re able to hike the bamboo trail and waterfall. Dinner was good, they turn the lights on the waterfall once it gets dark which made for a great photo. If you’re able to order the wine flight ahead of time do, we were not able to get it there (all provisions for dinner are brought in). We were able to purchase a bottle of wine from the chef, but she only had one choice.
We had a beautiful experience! Every bite was absolutely perfect and thoughtful! The environment was really spectacular as well. I do feel that the wine pairing could have been more intentionally paired, and served in tandem with each course. The meal was perfect and full of so many deep and interesting flavors and combinations! Romantic, intimate and genuine Cheers and thank you
This was a very nice evening. My family of four sat with four other guests and had a great meal in a small intimate setting overlooking the waterfall. We all thought that the meal was made with very high quality ingredients and was very delicious. Lisa was our chef and she did an amazing job of explaining what was on our plates and where the ingredients were sourced.
The setting is one of the most beautiful places on earth. The staff is professional and extremely kind. The food was wonderful.
Waterfal wiews were breathtaking. Chef's Table Dinner was delicious. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. Would certainly do that again!
At the Inn at Kulaniapia Falls, the only food option, after breakfast, is the Chef's Table dinner. The cost, for a couple, including tip and taxes, was $366. Wine pairing was offered at $69 per person (4 small-pour glasses), which we declined. Wine by the glass is not available. The chef offered to sell us a bottle (which we shared with another couple) for $30, but cash only. Parts of dinner were very good, main dish was disappointing. Certainly not worth $366 (plus wine purchase)
There isn't much comparison to having a private chef prepare a meal for you whilst you dine with a beautiful waterfall in view.
Every dish prepared by Chef Dominique Savage was absolutely delicious and all the wine pairings were perfect. One of the best farm-to-table meals we have had. The setting was beautiful and we had such a fun evening with Chef Dominique and our table companions. We highly recommend!
Viator suggested we arrive up to 3 hours early to enjoy the grounds. 1 hour is more than enough. We arrived 2.5 hours early and it was very awkward. We walked the trail to see the waterfall and then just sat around for 90 minutes waiting outside for dinner. They are not set up for guests that early and it was awkward.
One of the best meals in Hawaii. Great quality served by the chef with excellent pairings of wine. A wonderful evening
The food was amazing! The chef was sensitive to our dietary restrictions and created a delicious menu for us. She was super competent, engaging in conversation with us and not hovering over us as we ate.
All of the food was excellent, and the person bringing out the food and describing it to us was knowledgeable and good-humored. The wine pairings were very good, especially the Greek wine, which was a nice surprise. And, of course, the of the falls was spectacular. There is not an option for who was with me below, so I have selected "couples", but in reality it was me, my husband and our two adult children.
Our group of 4 had the privilege of this most wonderful dining experience. The location overlooking a waterfall is unparalleled. The multi-course meal was by far one of the nicest we've had in the years we have been coming to Hawaii. One course included the most tender Wagyu beef and another included a delicious duck. The duck was so unexpectedly tasty, that one of our party who hasn't eaten duck in decades converted. The dessert was delicious, as we all ate our portions happily to empty plates. It did start raining that evening, but it didn't dampen our experience. I highly recommend this dinner experience. P.S. - I was at the same dinner table with another patron who apparently did not enjoy her experience to the same extent as the four of us, as noted in a less than stellar TripAdvisor review. Please know that we were there and had a very different impression of the chef, the service, and the food.
Perhaps others are impressed with overwrought food from far away places. I came for the local fare in Hilo on a farm that was all about an Eco - farm to fork experience. I got duck from New York. Why would I go to Hilo to eat duck from New York? What's the carbon footprint of that? Even the chef was imported from New York. And though I love New York and New Yorkers generally, I prefer to go to New York for that. I'm in Hilo for the Aloha vibe. The dessert was too much as in too much going on, too many ingredients, flavors, and too sweet. All I could taste was sugar. My wine was from France and maybe Argentina - the second did not pair well. I found the whole thing overpriced, over done, and with an attitude. Half the guests were getting soaking wet on the open lanai without a thought to move the table 1' away from the sideways rain. That's $225 and four hours of my time that I'll never get back. If I could have had the soup (but even that main ingredient came from a far away place) and a glass of wine, I would have been good and in and out in an hour for less than $50 including tip. The server/sous-chef even put down classically trained chefs as "a great place for home cooks to learn to cook." He was quoting someone else to be fair. Arrogance is only remotely and rarely acceptable and if and only if you are in fact the best. Do the lunch instead which is truly a farm to fork experience with humble charming people.
We had such a wonderful time. This was really one of the top three meals we had in our 2wk Hawaii visit! I have celiac and the chef was so supportive they made everything gluten free. No one complained because it was awesome. And the FIRST Gluten Free German Chocolate Cake I’ve ever had!! Tips: let them know of your food sensitivities on booking. Also let them know if you want to sit alone or if community seating is ok.
Our best meal so far on our trip to the Hawaiian Islands. A very unique experience eating on a verandah overlooking the waterfall. The food was excellent.
Excellent stay during our trip while we passed through this side of the Big Island. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The views are awesome! Our Chef's Dinner was easily the best meal I've had in my life. Yes it's fancy, but you also get a great portion, too! Unforgettable memories.
Food was absolutely delicious. I am not a fish eater and I loved the fish and everything served. An explanation was given for each course.
We had a delicious evening, the quality of the dishes is exceptional, the food and wine pairing is perfect. And what a surprise to discover that chef Lisa speaks French! She took the trouble to explain the origin of the products, she introduced us to local flavors and quality wines that have nothing to envy of French wines. Fresh and original local products, inventive cuisine, in a dream setting. Above all, don’t hesitate to book a dinner with her! It’s a very nice experience
