Today we had so much fun with Captain Amy and the crew of Makani, Grace and Shaba! We motored out of the harbor with front-row seats to the local surf action beside us. Once clear of the reef, we immediately hoisted the main into the fresh northeastern trades, and the humming diesel engine fell silent for the better part of two hours as wind became our fuel. Captain Amy took us up the coast toward Diamond Head, gliding through the beautiful blue waters offshore from Waikiki. For those who wanted the full interactive experience, the bow was the place to be! We had some real thrills as the boat cut big, juicy slices off the side of the rolling swell. With spray on our faces and rushing water over our deck-warmed feet, everyone collectively cheered and begged for another refreshing slice! We had incredible views northeast up the coast, as well as west toward the Waianae mountain range, including Kaʻala, the highest point on the island. Beyond Diamond Head, we reversed course and glided west with the wind at our stern, flying fish buzzing all around us. We spotted big turtles swimming nearby and, at one point, slowed down to join a pod of spinner dolphins playing just outside a bay. And just when we thought the trip couldn’t get any better, we spotted a Hawaiian monk seal — an incredibly rare sight! An unforgettable day on the water with an amazing crew. I highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a fun, adventurous, and truly beautiful way to see the island from the water! 🌊⛵️🐬🐢

What a fabulous time we had! The boat is beautiful and immaculately clean. The captain and crew could not have been nicer. It was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. Will definitely go again when we return to the island.
We went on a two hour tour on the Makani catamaran. It was great! The boat is clean and well kept. The two mates, Georgia and Shaba, chatted with us and made sure everyone had drinks. It was a very relaxing ride on slow rolling deep blue waves.
We had a great time! The catamaran was clean and the crew was awesome!
The Makani Sunset Cruise was a great way to end our day in Oahu. We sailed the night of June 21, 2026 and had an amazing crew. The sailing was smooth and the drinks were wonderful. We recommend the Windy Watermelon!
Spent an evening here celebrating 15 years with my beautiful wife,(booked with gocity attraction but upgraded to sunset) its everything you expect and more! The subtle sea splashes, the wind, the views, Seeing the sunset draped city skyline and ocean views, one of those moments that cant really be put in words, you just have to experience it. Absolute envy for the crew that gets to do this every day, but the crew themselves were also great, very attentive to guests and i just can't recommend the whole thing enough! - The Shannas
We took the 2 Hour Catamaran Tour. The crew were fantastic and were knowledgeable about the area and regaled us with stories and pointed out landmarks. The cocktails were fabulous and reasonably priced. It was lovely to relax with a drink and sit on the netting and take in the beautiful sights of Oahu and watch the world go by. We didn’t see any dolphins but the cruise was a nice relaxing way to spend the afternoon.
Went on an afternoon sail around Waikiki. This is a very relaxing trip for all ages. Very clean, comfortable catamaran. You can buy adult beverages on board. For $10 you get to keep a nice to go cup. We saw 3 humpback whales. We had an all women crew: Captain Amy, Grace and Georgia they were so friendly and very knowledgeable about sailing.
The 3 ladies running this catamaran were wonderful! Very friendly and professional. We enjoyed the views on the not overly crowded boat, and enjoyed the tropical drinks behind the bar. Boat was very clean and had 2 tiny bathrooms on board. The cruise was a perfect amount of time. Easy parking available on the pier.
Fun night, crew is great! Beautiful views , would book this again! Was the best way to kick off our vaca
We did a sunset cruise for my husbands birthday. Not only was the crew amazing, but super informative & the best bartenders ever!!!
So much fun! The crew was super nice and helpful. Stopped to point out dolphins and turtles in the water. Brought water around to people as we were sitting on the deck. Could not have asked for a better experience!
A wonderfully smooth and comfortable sailing experience, made even better by the incredibly kind and attentive crew. Our whole family felt completely free to relax and enjoy the ride—and spotting dolphins was the highlight of the trip! We’d absolutely choose this again if we return to Hawaii.
We enjoyed a great two-hour outing this afternoon with a fun crew! Pushing out to the water on time, we were on our way to the great blue water surrounding us. When the crew shut off the engine to raise the sails, all we had was the sound of the waves and the wind to tour us around. It was cool seeing the beach from our vantage point and catching sight of a turtle alongside us. Thanks, Makani Crew!
We lucked out with/ perfect weather. It's a large cat w/ a fair amount of seating, beverages only no snacks. small crew consisting of Miles, Gracie & Capt. Christine. We sailed for 2 hours and it was beautiful. BIG TY to Miles for sharing his sunscreen as I totally forgot mine! Would recommend especially for kids! Thanks
We scheduled the sunset tour for our last day in Oahu. We planned everything for our last day around this tour. We were scheduled to check in at 4:30 and board to leave at 5:30. They sent us an email at about 4 o’clock when we were walking out of our hotel room to go to the tour site saying that it was canceled because of weather, it had rained a little bit at 3:30. We called them and pointed out that The forecast showed partly cloudy at 4:30 and sunshine at five until after dark. Why would they cancel. He said the captain thought the weather was going to be too bad. So we walked down to the beach and it was perfect weather and we watched the sunset on the beach calm seas clear skies no problem at all. I believe the captain didn’t have a full tour. I think he was a coward for canceling on us. Do not book this catamaran tour if there is a cloud in the sky. The captain will be cowering in a corner somewhere. I added a photo of the evening the tour was canceled. Pretty scary Huh!
This catamaran was one of the funnest activities we did. The sunset was absolutely incredible! The staff was fun, helpful and energetic. I highly recommend this sunset cruise.
Third time back on the same boat. Captain Brad and his staff are friendly and always a relaxing time on the water. You can sit on the mesh area in front or seating in covered areas and they sell drinks at the bar.
We did the sunset cruise. It was breathtaking. My issue is I didn't have my "sea-legs" so it was a bit difficult for me to walk around. The cruise was just long enough. Take a sweater, that January breeze was pretty chilly!
Did the Sunset cruise off Waikiki, highly recommended. Had perfect weather and sunset on the boat was stunning. Views of Waikiki and Diamond Head were beautiful as the sun was setting and the crew were great!
I purchased the go city pass and booked the sunset tour using the pass. I paid a $20 upgrade fee which was worth the price as drinks are included with this tour. We had lots of fun and the tour guides were great. We were able to see doplins and whales. I highly recommend the tour.
Friendly crews, enjoyable ride, and great view. Will do it again the next time we visit Hawaii. Highly recommend
It was our first trip to Hawaii and our first sail. And it was amazing! Will definitely go again. The weather was beautiful, we got to see dolphins. Just a great way to relax and see the island from the water. Will recommend to everyone!
It was clean and we saw some turtes and had so much fun under the sun. Staff were friendly and attentive to questions and inquiries
We had a wonderful time on the catamaran excursion, will go on it again next time we go to Hawaii. We also had a great time talking to the catamaran staff, they were so much fun and they took our pictures and told us about the areas we were seeing . Loved the experience. Will definitely recommend this excursion to friends and family.
Such an amazing time with Makani Catamaran. The crew was lovely and the experience was wonderful. I 1000% recommend Makani Catamaran. We had adults and teens with us and everybody enjoyed their time!
Captain and crew are great. Captain tries to get you up as close as possible but yet at a safe distance. Great tour.
Such a great crowd! Pancho and Gabe were a party, they really made us feel like their family. Would return 1000% had some of the most genuine fun of my friend reunion trip on this catamaran.
This was a perfect (and COVID-safe) way to end our trip. Did the sunset 2 hour cruise with all inclusive drinks. Not sure if they have larger groups during non-covid times, but it sold out, yet didn't feel crowded and there was room to walk around the boat to meet other people. Got our money's worth in drinks, views, sunset and a rainbow over Diamond Head. Very relaxing sitting at the back of the catamaran. Only suggestion is patience as they don't really organize lines for check-in, boarding, or the bar, so we self-organized a line at the bar to manage the "Karens and Steves" who were being rude or using their elbows to be "next." Overall: highly recommend!
Captain Jon and his crew always give a great tour. This was my second time chartering with Makani and it was the first thing we booked for our return trip from 2015. Enjoyed both trips, and if I ever make it back to Oahu, I will again patronize Makani Catamarans. Just a fun experience all around. Pretty much a given you will see sea turtles. dolphins are hit and miss, but the ride and views yo get are spectacular.
We had a blast on this dinner cruise being able to see more of Hawaii from the water which was awesome! Even with waves we were very happy with the smooth ride with this boat. The staff was great as well. We highly recommend this Makani Catamaran dinner cruise.
Me and my family thoroughly enjoyed our ride on the catamaran. It was a beautiful day and during the trip we were blessed to see sea turtles, whales and dolphins. Such a sight to see. The guides were friendly and made sure to point out all the animals.
We had an awesome time on our Catamaran boat ride! It was nice and warm out! The guides were great and funny. There was a cash bar for drinks and sodas, they also had specials/good deals. We saw several whales and lots of turtles up close. They were great at pointing them out and even stopped if we were close enough to watch longer. The ride was a great length as far as time wise, not too short. I would highly recommend this excursion!
We have been on the Sail Makani catamaran twice - once on our honeymoon in August 2010 and with our two teenagers in April 2019. I was so excited to bring the kids because I knew they would love the experience. We all sat in the front on the nets, and they enjoyed the views around and below the boat, especially when we saw turtles. It was also nice to have a couple drinks while we were out, and the crew was wonderful (I'm pretty sure it made my 16 year-old want to be part of the crew when he leaves the house).
A simple and easy booking process to get on this awesome Sail boat. The Catamaran was easy to get around the skipper and crew made the sail a lot of fun, we met people from all over the world and enjoyed the interaction. Drinks were available and we enjoyed the different cocktail options. Then the buffet food was way more than what we expected. We didn't have the best weather but it didn't take anything away fro the fun we had sailing with Makani. Special shout out to the crew Justin, Pancho and Kia
We both LOVED this catamaran experience! We actually went on a second catamaran ride later during the week with a different outfitter, and this one was definitely our favorite. First, the two hour time period is great. It allowed them to take us out into some deeper areas and down around Diamond Head- where we got lucky and even saw a whale and a sea turtle. The length and ability to be in both “shallower”/calm areas as well as deeper/more wavy areas was the perfect balance between relaxing and thrilling. Second, the size of their boat is great and I loved the layout. It’s relatively small which allowed for a much more intimate experience. No “bad seat” anywhere. The group size was also very reasonable (it can be so frustrating when you are packed in with throngs of people on a boat). Third, while we didn’t take advantage of it, they had some drink specials that seemed like a good deal and would’ve been very fun. Highly recommend this company and their experience.
I can't say enough wonderful things about Makani Catamaran. Truly the best ting about my trip. We went on the sunset sail one night and loved it so much we came back 2 days later for the fun in the sun sail. Saw whales, dolphins, turtles, but mostly beauty! The crew were amazing and a good time was had by all!
I’m so glad we booked this morning excursion. We had a beautiful sail with weather that cooperated. We saw honu green sea turtles, a pod of dolphins, and two whales. The staff told us it doesn’t happen often to see all three in one sailing. Staff were informative and professional. Boat was very comfortable with a below deck seating area and above deck areas. I would recommend to anyone visiting Oahu!
I normally would not have thought to do this activity but since it came with the Go Oahu card we gave it a shot and I am so glad we did! This turned out to be my favourite part of the trip. I went for the 8am sail and loved it. It was so magical seeing a pod of spinner dolphins swimming right beside the catamaran. We saw three green sea turtles swimming at the surface close to the boat as well and saw the blast from a whale coming to the surface to breathe. The crew were fun, friendly, and informative. It was an unforgettable experience! Definitely don't miss the Makani Catamaran if you're in Oahu. Do make sure you bring a camera, a sweater (it gets windy and chilly!) and take seasickness pills before you go if you get motion sickness!
We found that the crew members had a bit of an attitude when we asked about vegetarian meals. But even the regular meal was kinda gross. The food was dry and cold and tasteless and they were stingy with the cookies(the only part of the meal that was tasty), only giving out one per person, when it is advertised as a buffet. The ride was fun, but there are much cheaper catamaran rides for less money, even with the Groupon rate.
We got a great deal on this catamaran and would paid full price to go again. The staff on the ship were kind, bar services great, and they seemed to genuinely enjoy what the do. We saw many dolphins, sea turtles, and whales! We loved it.
Took the 8-10 am cruise on 2-21-2020 out of Oahu. Easy booking, good communication and easy to get to the location. Took an Uber there from hotel for about 13 bucks to avoid worry about parking. Was staying in Waikiki so the uber ride was like 15 minutes at that time of morning. All staff were personable and professional. Most of the people were up front but we hung at side and back and had a good view of the marine life. Captain found a large pod of dolphins to view, turtles and maybe one whale (I didn’t see it). Great views of shoreline. Boat was clean, well kept and captain knew his stuff. Was a bit rough with a good swell but no one became sick that I noticed. Would do again.
Catamaran was very nice, crew was awesome, they were engaging and genuinely wanted us to have a good time and find sea life which we did. This was part of the Go Oahu card and it was definitely worth the trip. total time on the water was about 90 minutes.
Great time on the catamaran. really enjoyed the food, the drinks and not last, the beautiful sunset. I was a bit dizzy at the beginning but i got used to it... staying outside and looking at the sea really helped.
Very enjoyable cruise off Waikiki. The crew was Exceptional and helped with providing excellent tour information about the sea life and landmarks. Everything was well organized and the catamaran was well equipped and comfortable.
The crew was welcoming and entertaining as we boarded. The cocktails were pretty inexpensive too. we had a smooth sail and saw green sea turtles and over a dozen whales. We had a beautiful view of Waikiki and Diamond Head.
The staff and the catamaran were awesome. Friendly and knowledgeable!! The sail was smooth and food was good..
We took the Makani Catamaran tour at the end of January, and had a blast. Unfortunately, the wind was't cooperating so it was less of a sail, and more of a cruise around the waters, but it didn't change our thoughts. The crew was fantastic, funny and super interactive. We were fortunate enough to see some sea turtles and a pod of dolphins in our tour. Would certainly recommend to anyone looking for a couple of hours on the water. I know we'll definitely go again on our next Hawaii trip!
My wife and I joined my elderly parents on an afternoon cruise out of Honolulu. We thoroughly enjoyed the cruise and would recommend for all ages. The catamaran was large, stable and very clean with more than sufficient seating both inside and outside on the deck. Refreshments are sold onboard. The crew was very friendly and accommodating. The captain sailed along the coast to Makapuu Lighthouse, with a leisurely stop to view sea turtles, then turned and sailed back to the harbor. Both my wife and mother are prone to sea sickness, and had no issues at all. We will return the next time we visit Oahu and highly recommend to others.
The crew was very friendly and professional. There were awesome things that they don't have control over, like the great weather we had and the fact that we saw ten whales that day, but that definitely added to the enjoyment! The catamaran was very nice with many places to sit in the sun or duck into the shade if you want.
