I’ve cage dived many time with whites but never out of the cage. Whilst in Hawaii I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Initial booking is easy and confirmation comes with concise instructions on meet up and what to expect etc. Take sea sickness meds, it can get really choppy. My wife suffered. Safety divers were excellent but I did question the ratio of safety’s to diving guests. Current was really strong and easy to find yourself away from the boat/group. Swell and current was probably on the limits of my boundaries but the whole experience was electric. Must have had 20-30 sharks around us at all times. If you have a fear of open water or a weak swimmer, maybe head for a cage dive. Next time I’m in Oahu I’ll go out with these guys again.

Itinerary
Shark Diving with Ocean Ramsey and our team of professional shark biologists and guides to learn about shark behavior and shark conservation on our shark tour. This shark dive focuses on teaching people about what to do and what not to do when diving with sharks, guided by a shark biologist and professional shark safety diver. We provide mask snorkel, fins, and rash guards for everyone on board the shark tour. We have brand new, state-of-the-art shark diving boats custom-made for Hawaii's rough water to make it very comfortable for our customers. On the way out to the shark dive site, we give a 30-minute educational briefing about sharks, starting with Hawaiian shark history and the importance of sharks in Hawaii. Then, we thoroughly explain our safety rules and shark behavior before the 1hr dive, swim, or snorkel. On the way back into the harbor, we break down Shark behavior that was seen during the dive, and we focus on explaining the importance of sharks in our ocean, highlight our conservation efforts, and explain how people can get involved to help save sharks and support shark conservation efforts in different parts of the world.

If I could give this experience more than 5 stars, I would. Shark diving was my ONE and ONLY bucket list item, but calling it a “bucket-list item” almost doesn’t explain what this meant to me. This wasn’t an “oh cool, I want to swim with sharks” experience. I have loved sharks since I was a little girl. I’ve always been fascinated by them, loved learning about them, and hated the way they are so often portrayed as mindless “man-eaters” or something we should automatically fear. Being able to actually enter their world and experience them in the ocean was something I had dreamed about for most of my life. And somehow, it was even better than I imagined. We went out with Tyler, Gina, and Brian, with Bre as our photographer, and this entire team was absolutely amazing. At one point there were probably 35–40 sharks in the water around us, and I never felt scared or unsafe. Not once. What meant so much to me was how obvious it was that this crew genuinely loves and respects these animals. The sharks never felt like props for an adrenaline-filled tourist attraction. We were entering THEIR world, and the crew treated them that way. Their respect for the sharks and the ocean, while also making our safety a priority, was apparent throughout the entire experience. Tyler and Gina were incredible in the water. They helped everyone dive down, get closer to the sharks, and make the most of their time. Unfortunately, I could not get my ears to pop, so I couldn’t stay down as long as I wanted. Tyler genuinely tried everything he could to help me. Obviously, my ears not cooperating was completely outside of their control, but I really appreciated how much effort he put into helping me experience as much as I could. I was also incredibly impressed by the individual time and attention they gave everyone, especially considering how many people were with us. You never felt like you were just another person being moved through an excursion. The water was ROUGH that day, and a lot of people got seasick. The crew could not have been kinder about it. There was no judgment and no making anyone feel embarrassed. Brian was even handing out washcloths with something on them that smelled amazing to help with the nausea. It may sound like a small thing, but those little details say a lot about how much this team cares about the people they take out. And GET THE PHOTO PACKAGE. Seriously. Bre was amazing. She gave us pointers for getting good pictures, although I’m pretty sure I forgot every single one once I realized I was surrounded by sharks. 😂 The photos she captured are absolutely incredible, and looking at them takes me right back to being in the water. Having her there also meant we didn’t have to worry about documenting everything ourselves. We could just be present and take it all in, which was worth every penny. This wasn’t about coming home and being able to say, “I swam with sharks.” It was about finally being in the water with animals I have loved and been fascinated by since I was a little girl, surrounded by 35–40 of them peacefully moving through the water, with a crew that understood and respected exactly how incredible these animals are. Tyler, Gina, Brian, and Bre were kind, patient, professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely wonderful. I felt safe, cared for, and able to fully appreciate something I had dreamed about for most of my life. My one and only bucket-list item may officially be checked off, but apparently I replaced it with a new one: make it back and do this with them again someday. Thank you for making something that meant so much to me even better than I imagined. I will never forget it.
Fintastic tour! Lovely people, kind to the sharks, lots of knowledge and plenty of time in the water and so many <^>< Choose over cage diving and really good value thank you
We had an amazing experience! The guides took excellent care of us, we had fantastic sightings, and felt safe and well looked after at all times. We would absolutely recommend them and would do it again anytime!
Had a great time. Great to get some pictures included. Couldn’t believe how many sharks we got to see at one time. 40+sharks at one time of all different sizes.
Our family of four joined a non‑cage diving tour with One Ocean Diving, and it became one of the absolute highlights of our vacation. Faith was exceptional from the very first moment: calm, knowledgeable, and incredibly reassuring with our kids. She explained everything clearly, gave them real confidence, and created an atmosphere where we all felt safe and excited. Snorkeling with sharks under Faith’s guidance was unforgettable. The experience was respectful, educational, and beautifully organized! We left the water feeling inspired and grateful. Highly recommended for any family looking for a meaningful ocean adventure. Mahalo to the whole team and see you again
Awesome experience not a thing to be afraid of.. the staff made it so safe! The are very knowledgeable & I’m thinking the sharks know them!
I genuinely hate having to write reviews like this (especially for small businesses that are doing great work on shark education), but I have to share our experience. Who we are: Our family, two adults and two children (tween/early teen), did this shark dive in early August. We are all scuba certified, strong swimmers, and have snorkeled A LOT. Our daughter is VERY interested in marine science, and our son has always loved sharks, so we mostly did this for them (my husband and I have both previously dove with sharks). First, the pros: - Responsible shark diving. This was VERY important to us and One Ocean does it right in regards to respecting sharks, their home, and space. - Yes, we saw sharks! Not a lot - maybe 4 or 5 - but they are wild animals, this isn't a zoo, so we knew we may see 1 or 2, or we may see 20 - it's the nature of wildlife. - The photographer was wonderful and did his best to get shots. It was tough, because the sharks stayed quite deep, but he did what he could. He did capture a great shot of our daughter, and one of our son, but did not get any of my husband or I, nor did he take many of just the sharks, which did surprise me. For the extra $250, I would recommend it, as it's impossible to otherwise capture photos - Very safe! At no point did myself, husband, or children feel unsafe or in danger Now, the cons: - What really negatively impacted our tour was the boat captain. He was EXTREMELY rude and condescending. Twice, he made completely unacceptable and rude comments and it was very off-putting. When we arrived to the site, there were tiger sharks there, BUT the team had done NOTHING to prep everyone to jump right in the water. On the boat ride out was the time to have everyone get their masks and snorkels ready, fins on, etc. but they didn't. They waited until we got to the site and then were trying to rush everyone off the boat in case the sharks left the area. The issue with that is with children, nothing moves quickly. The boat captain said to the photographer, snarkily, loudly and right next to my children, husband and I "these are the slowest four people in the history of snorkeling". Never mind we actually WEREN'T slow - all of the gear was stored in underseat storage (at their direction) and needed to be pulled out and put on. Had that been done on the boat ride out, no one would have been rushed. But that comment was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. Our kids were shocked that someone would be that rude. Instead of doing his job and offering to help, he stood by and made snarky comments about how all of the guests were "so slow". Then when spraying the goggles with defog, he fully YELLED at our kids for rinsing them after he sprayed them. We have been diving and snorkeling for YEARS and we have ALWAYS rinsed our goggles after defogging. He made ANOTHER snarky comment to our CHILDREN "yeah, because YOU know what you're doing over ME" as we were getting into the water. I was disgusted at this point and we hadn't even gotten in the water yet. - EVERYTHING about the tour is VERY rushed. They were ~20 minutes late in arriving, which I'm sure contributed to the rush, but of all of the tours we did while in Hawaii (4 scuba diving excursions, 2 boat excursions, helicopter, snorkeling excursion, etc), this was the ONLY one that we all felt VERY rushed by. Their lack or organization and prep work became the customer's problem, which led to a negative experience. - You're only the water for about 20 minutes. Even though they say it will be 25-30, no one from our entire boat was in the water for more than 20 minutes total. I only know this because I was videoing with our GoPro the entire time we were in the water, turning it on when we entered the water and off when we exited. Again, this may have been because the crew was late in arriving, so we were late in departing, but regardless, important for people to know when they are booking that they will only have a total of ~20 minutes in the water. Also know that you are in open water and the day we went, the current was STRONG. You MUST be physically fit and a strong swimmer to do this activity. Two of the people on our boat could not even participate because they weren't physically fit enough - there should be disclaimers and warnings prior to booking, but I don't recall there being any. For the price, I probably wouldn't do it again. While I very much support shark education and conservation, they could definitely do a much better job of on-time departures, preparedness, and customer service.
An absolutely incredible experience. I travelled all the way from the UK for this visit. I did two consecutive mornings – both on the 6am departure (based on the advice on the website that the conditions are more often the best at that time in the early morning). I was not disappointed. The team at One Ocean gave a first class experience from beginning to end. They gave an informative briefing on the boat ride to the dive site (c. 20mins) with all-important safety instructions and all delivered in a really humorous presentation style by Gina which set everyone at ease. There were one or two people who said they were feeling abit nervous but this calmed them and made everyone feel relaxed. The water was crystal clear and upon entering the water we could immediately see anywhere between 20 – 30+ sharks below us (Silky and Galapogas sharks mainly). We were lucky that we had 3 Tiger sharks on our first day (4th August) and 8 Tiger sharks on the second day (5th August). On the second day our luck became even greater when Nikki showed up. Majestic, graceful and an immediate presence in the water. After appearing, she stayed around for all the time we were in the water. Short of the privilege of being in the water with Ocean and Juan (hopefully next time!), to have the celebrated Nikki with us for so long was an outstanding experience and one I shall never forget. The whole experience is grounded in One Ocean’s core foundations and Ocean’s principles and beliefs – refreshingly, the theme of conservation is evident throughout every moment. This is not some carnival ride or theme park thrill shot. This is a professionally run operation where the preservation and welfare of these amazing creatures is foremost. The overriding messaging from the One Ocean organisation before, during and after, is that sharks are to be respected and that their conservation is paramount. You really feel this strongly and at no point is there any feeling that this is being run simply as a fun-fair experience – it is educational and about learning, about understanding that these incredible animals are not “monsters” and that they deserve to be protected from their biggest threat {us} whilst at the same time enabling people to get in the water and to safely observe and interact with them. That is a fine balance to strike and One Ocean strike it beautifully. They provide an unforgettable experience whilst also putting both the safety of the “humans” and the experience and wellbeing of the sharks front and centre. The entire team on the boat were amazing and thanks to them it was up there with my life’s most memorable moments. They helped to create that and gave encouragement and reassurance in equal measure to ensure that everyone took away incredible memories. I fully intend to go back and to pay another visit. It was that good. Thanks should go to Gina and Drew who on both of the days I went out were the safety divers and GoPro operators and captured some really great footage. In addition Bret was the official photographer on the second dive and having now also received his professional photos I can thank him for capturing some unforgettable photos of me with the sharks. Bret's focus and dedication on getting both me and the sharks in shot over dozens and dozens of photos was really exceptional. Thanks all round to One Ocean for a truly unforgettable experience. Finally, thanks to Ocean Ramsey for her dedication to the sharks' cause and her continued efforts to preserve and protect this precious creature and to help secure the future of our oceans for ours and the next generations. @OneOceanDiving @OneoceanResearch @OceanRamsey @JuanSharks @WaterInspired @OneOceanGlobal @OneOceanEducation @OneOceanConservation @OneOceanDesigns @OneOceanSharks @OneOceanHawaii
Such a great experience. The guides were knowledgeable and funny. Seen a Tiger shark! Would recommend and will do again when back in HI.
Gina, Brian and Taylor took us (a crew of about 6-7 people?) out during the 9AM slot today and it was truly an awe inspiring experience. It was my first time getting in water with sharks and as we arrived , the tiger sharks like the apex predators they are were quick to meet us there. Seeing their bodies near the surface of the water , it really struck me then and there that the hour had finally arrived, and I was to actually have to get in the water. LOL. I was pretty nervous, but not having to be the first one in the water (I was the 5th person in), and being a strong swimmer, I held onto the rope on the side of the boat and managed the current. It was so thrilling. My adrenaline was a bit high. Especially when the tiger shark gets close. It is so big o_o Gina and Taylor were so competent in managing us and worked so hard to get us the best photos and videos, I am grateful to have been able to be in such great and comforting leadership. The black tips were also so cool to see. Wow. Truly an awe inspiring experience. Wishing the crew all the best. So grateful. So blessed. Thank you, thank you !!!
My girlfriend and I went on this tour and It was amazing Plenty of Tiger sharks everywhere and really good comunication from the guides. One tip: when they say on the website to go early, listen to them and follow the advice. We were on the other side of the island and had to wake up at 4:30 am on holidays to get to the 6 am tour and it was definetly worth It Thanks to our guides for that wonderful morning, we will be back
It was worth the trip, sharks guaranteed and good mood and fun on the way!
My buddy is extremly scared of sharks. He loved it I loved it. The two main guides killed it. They were super expressive and fun. They'd make paint drying seem like an adventure.
What a rare opportunity for both education as well as being a witness to wildlife in the natural habitat. The experience was something we will never forget. They make sure you are safe and comfortable. Let them take the pictures so you can concentrate on the experience. You will not regret it.
Terrible experience,I was so disappointed. If you feel like wasting your money,go for it. The guides and the crew were arrogant and also not patient, neither polite with clients at all! If you cannot free dive, they do not help you! You also have to hold on to the rope attached to the side of the boat all the time while swells keep smashing you against the boat, safety =zero point! The whole story about Ocean Ramsay shark education is a myth! It's all about money and no human connection with nature! Thank you,OneOcean Diving, never again with you! Dan-Shark Enthusiast
We really enjoyed our whole boat crew. Professional,.funny and made the day super enjoyable. We felt safe the whole trip and were able to see so many sharks.
Incredible experience once again with one ocean diving. My fiancee and I have traveled from California to Oahu twice in 6 months to go out with this crew. Can't say enough good things about both crews we have went out with (Drew, faith, the captain) and photographer (Ethan Rich). It's been a life changing experience both times and I can't wait to come back again. -Brendon Buckley
Absolutely incredible! We actually did this tour twice, and it was one of the most unforgettable experiences of our lives. Swimming with sharks in their natural habitat is something we will never forget. The entire crew was professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and made us feel safe and welcome from the very first moment. What makes this company truly special is its mission. It is incredibly inspiring to see what Ocean and her team are doing to change people's perception of sharks and to protect both these amazing animals and the ocean. You can genuinely feel their passion and dedication throughout the entire experience. If everyone had the chance to experience sharks the way we did, I truly believe the world—and especially our oceans—would be a better place. We cannot recommend this tour highly enough. Thank you to the entire team for giving us memories that will last a lifetime. Mahalo!
It lasted 1hr 20min not 2hrs as advertised. The staff was great and kept everyone safe at all times. We had a lot of fun.
The crew was amazing, very informative, supportive, and patient. It's clear to me they love the ocean.
We really enjoyed our experience. This is something my 10 year old wanted to do so badly. Mom of course was hesitant but faith and the rest of group B calmed my nerves and it was actually quite enjoyable once we were in the water. 10/10 would recommend! My daughter will definitely be asking to do it again and pray she gets to see queen Nikki the tiger shark next time!
We had a great time shark diving! The guides were very friendly and did a good job teaching us about sharks. After getting into the water, we were called one at a time to free dive. I think we could have had a little longer in the water, but overall worth the booking!
We booked for 6/07/2026 - 6 am charter. My wife and i celebrating 15 years together. DO IT!! The crew was fantastic and knowledgeable, there were no nerves once we got out there, we felt safe the entire time. Built memories that will last beyond our lifetime and got to take a small part in the conservation of these beautiful creatures. Long way from the cornfields, but we'd do it again in a heartbeat. - The Shannas
Waves were high bc of NW winds, but awesome-so many sharks! the guides are marine biologists and are in water with you. If waves were calmer, I would have wanted to stay in water longer. I stayed on line next to boat bc of such high waves, tons of sharks (65 yo, 11 yr old, and 2 adults). They take videos of all snorkelers.
This is an absolutely surreal experience. The crew was phenomenal (funny, incredibly knowledgeable, calm, and approachable) and did everything they could to prepare all of us. I felt completely safe the entire time and it was an experience that I will absolutely be doing again. You’ll never see anything like it. You should 100% do this!!
Experience was absolutely phenomenal!! I was very nervous at first and not sure what to expect since I don’t trust myself swimming but the staff are so nice and helpful!! They guide you and walk you through everything. I felt very confident with my snorkeling after they helped me! They pushed me to trust myself.
Sooo worth it!! Stop looking and get to booking your tour!! You won’t regret it. The sharks and so chill and the guides are very knowledgeable about what they’re doing!!
Was an absolute sureal experience so many sharks 🦈 First dive was good but 2nd dive was exceptional saw over 30+ sharks. Highly recommend practicing free diving b4 going so you can hold your breathe longer and if you bare a good free diver bring a weight belt if you want to get close to the sharks. But also highly highly highly recommed paying extra for the professional photos. I was by myself and i was happy i had someone else to capture the moments for me.
Took the 9am on the 24th. Absolutely incredible experience! The safety divers were friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and enthusiastic. We saw 3 different species of shark. Felt extremely safe and had a blast. What a privilege to share space with such majestic creatures! 10/10 would recommend. Considering going again!
Bucket list adventure that did not disappoint! It has been over 24 hrs since my husband and I went on a shark dive with One Ocean Diving and we are still on Cloud 9! I hope that the images that my mind carries will always be fresh and clear! The sharks were amazing and the crew was so encouraging and patient. My husband was nervous but came out of the water saying that it was the best thing we had done on our 10 day Hawaiian Vacation! 5 star review x 7!
This was by far the most unreal and best experience I’ve ever had. The instructors were extremely friendly and professional, making the whole experience safe & fun. We were able to dive down and swim so close to the sharks which made the whole experience feel so surreal. I would HIGHLY recommend doing this. Scared and/or excited, this is life changing and 100% worth the money.
The dive with sharks was the best thing I ever did. I was lucky and had the crew all to myself. They are the best on this world. Friendly, professional and respectful. I got to see so many sharks and the hole time I was in good and safe hands. When I come back to Hawaii I will definitely do it again. This is a experience of a lifetime.
Absolutely amazing. The safety divers were so cool and very helpful. I would definitely do it again if I had the chance.
This was on the top of my brother’s list for his visit to Hawaii. I’ve gone on cage dives with other visitors but he was the first to want to experience sharks 🦈 cage free and I was game. Did not disappoint. First of all the staff was extremely competent and friendly. Which just added to the experience. Just a short ride out to the dive location during which we received the safety instructions. Very easy to understand and execute if needed. Felt safe in the water entire time with Hailey. Plenty of opportunities to free dive 10 - 15’ down closer to the sharks. Really just a tranquil majestic experience. Not a hint of terror or being scared. 100% recommend cage free over cage shark dive. And absolutely recommend one ocean diving and crew of Liko, Hailey and Faith. My brother said he’d actually repeat the experience on next visit to Oahu. And I will definitely be recommending for my future guests as a must do.
Absoutely one of the best experiences. The entire crew were amazing. Fully focused on ensuring every guest has a safe and amazing experience in the water with sharks. Cage free. The experience is 1000% safe. The professional team ensure everyone is safe and comfortable throughout. Even the two young boys from Vancouver had a great time. Gina and the entire crew are amazing. So much fun and excitement. It is clear that they love their jobs with passion for conservation and education. This was our second experience and would do it again and again. Highly recommend.
Heres the deal...Swimming with sharks is a crazy phenomenon and a bucket list experience. So an A++ for that. The BAD...let me just give a word of warning to all you atheists and agnostics. You WILL be forced to believe in the God of Christianity or bare minimum a higher power. You WILL say the Jesus Prayer (Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Have Mercy on me a sinner). Why???? (One may ask). Probably because you will feel the most sickly, miserable, and depressed from the sea sickness of your entire life. The SEA SICKNESS IS UNBEARABLE. PLEASE DO NOT DISREGARD THIS. But Insanely cool tour and I highly recommend for all, just take Dramamine. Enjoy!
11/2025 Shark Dive with One Ocean Diving was AMAZING! Gina, Tyler and Ethan were great guides and photographer! A beautiful day and lots of sharks to view. Free diving opportunities go down deep or stay with the safety line. Never felt any tense moments. Sharks were in their own element and easily allowed viewing while not touching or getting too close. These are beautiful beasts of the ocean and set so much better and safety. The dive was perfect and memorable. A day to remember forever and cannot wait to dive again one day with these beautiful creatures of the sea.
Brian, Andrew and Kaitlin were great!!!! We saw dolphins on the way to, and from, the dive site. Andrew was super patient with us in the water, guiding us to get the best photos. We are anxiously awaiting the photos!! The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable and taught us about saving the sharks. Would absolutely recommend and go again.
We had a fantastic time. 4 people on our boat, and had a great crew- plenty of time in the water with large group of Galapagos Sharks. Felt safe, in spite of rough conditions- Excellent tour - highly recommended.
What an awesome experience! Craven captain were stellar loved the education portion, never once not felt safe with the dive instructors! Can’t wait to do it again next time I’m in town!
The crew is very friendly and the experience is also very éducative . My five year old son loved it and my wife even if she was scared the night before felt very relax during the experience
Book this shark dive! It was such a great experience! My 13-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son absolutely loved it. We felt safe the entire time, and the crew was very knowledgeable and professional. Faith was an incredible guide. It was also super informative and we learned so much about shark behavior and ocean conservation. We even got to free dive with tiger sharks, which was unforgettable! We saw three different shark species and roughly 10–15 sharks at a time. Truly an amazing and educational adventure for the whole family. Highly recommend!
The crew were all very helpful and made sure we had the best experience. It was scary to think to be swimming with the sharks, but the sharks, they don’t bother you just don’t do anything stupid.. Overall, it was an amazing experience for our family. Will definitely do it again!
Guides are very knowledgeable and experienced. Felt very safe in the waters with the sharks. Highly recommend!
Everyone was calm & fun. We talked about what was going to happen, how to safe, but with fun. When got in the water & it was amazing! Our divers were very much watching for everyone’s safety but making sure we’re getting an experience to last us a life time or u til we can do it again.
Had a blast swimming with the sharks! There were tons of them out there and even though I went into the experience pretty nervous and fully expecting to chicken out the second I got into the water, once I got in with the guides I felt incredibly safe. The sharks were so gentle and minded their own business. Instructions on the boat were given at lightning speed so everyone got scolded a little bit for doing things wrong even though I think we were all just confused. That being said, the guides and photographer were very kind and obviously were primarily concerned with our safety. If you’re on the fence about whether or not to book, do it! You won’t regret it.
An absolute blast! My husband and I had a fantastic experience with the humans and sharks. We felt completely safe and were super excited to get in the water and see these beauties up close. Our guide Tyler and the crew were impressive and made us feel at ease and excited. This epic adventure exceeded our expectations! I’d go back to O’ahu just to do this again. I wish we had done it on our first day of vacay instead of the last. We definitely would have gone back again! This was the highlight of our trip.
We had an amazing experience swimming with two Tiger Sharks for an hour. The guides in the water are super attentive and we never felt unsafe at any time. I can highly recommend :-]
Fabulous experience. Energetic and very knowledgeable crew who seem to really care about shark conservation efforts. Truly one of the most serene experiences I have ever had floating in the blue abyss with one of nature's most beautiful animals.
