This was not just any snorkeling event but an adventure that showcased local Hawaiian history, culture and geography. Kai and Chloe were competent, charming, funny, relaxed and we felt safe and taken care of as we zipped between snorkeling locations and historic sites. We also appreciated the nice touch of fresh fruit after our first stop and the overall conviviality of the trip. The small size of the boat was also appreciated.

Knowledgeable, friendly staff..fantastic equipment and beautiful scenery above and below the water..A must do if you're able..We ditched the always frustrating golf course for a rewarding day doing something that we seldom get to do..
Mike and Brooke were helpful, knowledgeable and provided an amazing tour. We were able to see all of the things on our bucket list, almost like he ordered it off our list. We saw how crowded some of the other company’s boats were and it made us glad that we chose the best/ right company. Mahalo
Great tour. Natalie and Koby were great guides and super friendly. The group is small - which was awesome & exactly what we were looking for. Highly recommend!
Best for the more adventurous traveler as the boat ride is a little rougher than on bigger boats. Good snorkeling and great guides.
Awesome morning spent snorkeling and enjoying seeing the Big Island by boat! We loved this smaller boat experience. The tour guides were fantastic!
We were fortunate to see and swim with 7 dolphins. No guarantee everyone will be so fortunate, bug early morning outings increase the likelihood. It was amazing. Guides are great, going out on boat is a nice change. Overall A+
What a memorable experience! Thank you to our crew, Skyler, and Tavin, for making the adventure so enjoyable. I was totally looking forward to snorkeling, but my husband had some trepidation. However, he thoroughly enjoyed this excursion. Captain Skyler is truly knowledgeable of the island's history and the sites we visited. The water was super choppy, but what a fun ride! While we were in the water, Tavin kept watch and made sure everyone was safe and enjoying their time. She was very attentive to everyone onboard. They make a wonderful team. This was a fun, well-organized adventure that we would recommend to anyone looking at fun time on the water.
What a fun and memorable experience! B and Tay were our all female crew and we felt safe and comfortable the whole trip. The two snorkel sites were exceptional, with crystal clear water and loads of fish and colorful coral. All gear is provided and in good shape. On the boat ride, B took us really close to a sea cave, which was awesome, and the historical information she gave us during the trip was interesting. This was our second trip with Seaquest and I will book with them again in the future.
We had an amazing Deluxe Snorkeling Tour with Sea Quest! Captain B and Tavin were an incredible duo and put everyone instantly at ease. We knew we were in good hands with this crew. Both snorkeling places were fabulous and we even slowed down to view dolphins! The caves and lava tubes were very interesting to see and beautiful! When a passenger fell ill, the crew dealt with them quickly and efficiently. They were very compassionate and found a solution to help the passenger, as well as keeping the excursion going for the rest of us. I was so impressed with the entire tour and we will definitely book again when we return!
Top Notch! This was our 3rd snorkle trip with SeaQuest. Small boat, less people. Knowledgeable captain .It was a beautiful morning on and in the water.
We had a great experience on our morning snorkeling tour with Sea Quest. Our team of Captain B and Tay made the whole adventure a pleasure and one of our best experiences in Hawaii. We hit two incredible snorkeling spots with an amazing variety of tropical fish and coral. I would definitely recommend to a friend and book again. Very professional safe and fun.
The morning B&C (girls) team were excellent guides and very knowledgeable about the island and its history. The captain (B) was funny and sweet. Great trip and lots to see. We also did the night manta ray tip. That is a must do to see these amazing creatures up close! All the guides were experts.
Wonderful experience with Seaquest. The staff were so friendly and patient with my children. The boat ride out was fun and they provided snacks. The two snorkeling spots were great and they offered tons of equipment and floating options to make it easy. I would highly recommend, even if you aren't a good swimmer.
Our family of four had a great experience on the morning Deluxe Snorkel. Guides Natalie and Anna were knowledgeable, energetic, and entertaining throughout the trip. Two 45-minute snorkel sessions on separate locations was a great balance, proving time to warm up and eat snacks. The locations were top notch and provided good variety.
Two long snorkels on two spectacular reefs with whale sightings, dolphin encounters, and a knowlegable and competent crew made this a wonderful way to cap off my 63rd birthday. Highly recommend...
Snorkel was beautiful. Captain Mike was fun and told good island history. Food was good too! I would do it again!
We had a great time with the crew and saw lots of tropical fish - Captain Cook is the GOAT for snorkeling on the big island ;)
Captain Kevin and his crew was awesome. Made us feel safe, and provided some knowledge along the trip!
Smaller boat is the best way to go and Sea Quest nails it.
Crew was awesome: Brita and Chloe you were the best!!! Safety was taken seriously, boat was immaculate. They were very communicative and professional. They had a large variety of equipment including regular and larger noodles, masks and snorkels. They were kind enough to spray down our masks before use. Tour was informative and pleasant. Felt so taken care of and calm in their capable hands. We will definitely go with this company again. Would have loved to do the manta ray experience with them as they have a premium location that’s easy to get to and doesn’t require a long boat ride. Thank you Sea Quest. 10/10
We did both the day time and the night time snorkeling. Day time: we went to 2 different locations to snorkel but the boat rides to and from were anything but boring. Our captain, Skyler, and his trusty side kick Eli, were both great. We learned about Hawaii's history, the volcanoes, and the fun things to see and do. They were professional but friendly and made sure everyone had a great time. The night time snorkeling with the manta rays was also fun, but a shorter excursion. The location is only 5 minutes from launch location. We saw 4 different manta rays, they were not feeding that night, but we saw them and some of us got some great videos of them. I would do both of these tours again!
We got lucky with just a group of 5 people so there was plenty of room on the small zodiac boat early February. The snorkeling was best at “Two Step” and Kealakekua Bay but the southern point location did have interesting lava rock formations. Ali (crew) and Natalie (captain) were great and Natalie’s story telling was fun and refreshing. The time at each of the 3 locations was just about right but of course being an avid scuba diver I could have stayed all day on the water. Highly recommended.
Great Big Island Snorkeling experience! Super friendly staff and great weather. We saw whales, dolphins, and even some flying fish! Great visibility and lots of colorful fish. They also took this by some lava tubes and caves and gave us some history. Would highly recommend!! 🐳🐬🐠
This trip lived up to the hype. Small group, great locations, guides and local snacks. As a bonus, we were treated to lots of whale activity. Highly recommended!
I absolutely highly recommend this experience!! The staff was extremely kind, sweet, funny, knowledgable, and just the sweetest and friendliest! Their customer service alone was incredible! The boat was super cool! I had never done a speed boat like this one and I enjoyed it! It felt safe and adventurous and still spacious! We got to see bottle nose and spinner dolphins! We had two great snorkel spots including captain cook! And we saw other landmarks along the way! The captain was extremely well versed on the history of Hawaii! The snacks were also super yummy and high quality! It was literally a perfect day! The morning time just feels so calm but still lively! I also rented a go pro and it was affordable and easy to use! They were extremely helpful with that! This was one of my favorite experiences! Would definitely tour with them again!
Best experience. Our tour guides were fantastic. They were friendly and helpful. Visited 2 snorkeling sites and lava caves. Dolphins sited and followed. This tour company provided the most enjoyable time for our family. Would highly recommend.
Captain Natalie and deck hand Chloe were awesome! We started the morning with a spinner dolphin pod , ran into a pod of bottle nose dolphins and then onto the snorkeling . Clarity of water was out of this world! Loved the history lesson so much and geological lesson as well. Would 100% recommend sea quest for your adventures in Kona / the big Island. Thank you for everything. We will be back for sure! ~Schulz family
We had an extremely competent captain and first mate. Captain “B” handled the boat adeptly as we got close enough to the shoreline to really see the rock archways and caves dotting the coast. And she shared interesting geographical and historic information along the way. B and Carolina created a fun atmosphere, and kept us all safe without it being a drudge. For someone who can get easily seasick, the no pressure atmosphere was greatly appreciated. And they were really good at getting long hair untangled from masks.
What an absolutely fantastic day with Capt Kevin and Kristin- the weather was gorgeous and the sea's calm- The boat was very well cared for, staff was so pleasant and accommodating- anticipating needs, being so kind and reassuring. SeaQuest is the best- semi private, educational if you want- They are a very active member of our community as well- I recommend to all- thx SQ !!
Great snorkeling adventure, plus we were able to see migrating humpback whales! B and Sierra were amazing -funny and very knowledgeable about the area and kept us all safe!!
Don’t gamble with SeaQuest if you’re not sure of the weather since there’s no customer aftercare!!! I did the K Bay snorkeling a few months ago with a different company and loved it so much! So I booked an even longer one with SeaQuest wanting to get more flavors of the Kona shore snorkeling experience. Everyone could tell the waves were high that day and snorkeling at a few of the different locations are probably going to be hard - yet we still made the trip out to all the locations just to “confirm” we couldn’t go into the water which was a bit unnecessary (even my uber driver commented on the waves being bad for snorkeling). So the first hour and something we were on an extremely bouncy boat where you hold on to dear life and listen to captain Mike mumble about how we may not be able to go into waters ….with at least two people besides me on the boat getting motion sickness from the continuous long ride. After checking three different locations and “confirming” that oh yea waves were indeed bad and you can’t get into waters, captain Mike said we’ll go to two locations near the K Bay (because the deluxe trip advertised two locations of snorkeling, which was why I signed up). I almost snorted when I found out by 2 locations, captain Mike meant the left and right side of the captain cook monument. This was so ridiculously funny in that moment that it eased my motion sickness a little bit - but we were dropped at the far right side of the touristy captain cook area and picked up, only to ride to the far left side of that area (which I easily swam over in under 10 min in the first “dive”) and pretended we got two dives. Believe me I don’t assume SeaQuest could control weather, but given the prosperous tour business along this shore and how big their company was this type of “skimping” was not at all deluxe for me. Having had similar situations on another island, I half thought they’d either cancel the tour, or be upfront about it and downgrade it to something shorter (a readily available option they already offer) and refund the price difference. But absolutely no aftercare was provided. The left and right side of the pool experience was offered as the “deluxe” snorkeling tour. Having done a lot of boat tours on this island and others, I just really want to provide my experience here so you understand what you’re signing up for. Weather happens, and maybe I’m lucky but all the bad weather tours I ran into were either cancelled, partially refunded, offered a free second go, or converted into something else (snorkeling turned into whale watching), but I got nothing with SeaQuest. So this is not the smoothest handling of an expected bad condition, and no my expectations weren’t too high. My other comment is that I do think SeaQuest is trying to do good businesses and my crew Brooke was super nice. Captain Mike on the other hand didn’t seem like he was cut out for this job, his boating skills were fine but his tourguiding techniques and people skills were just a bit lackluster. I’ve heard the Moana story and Captain cook history as part of these boat tours from another smaller company captain so i know this is not the most engaging storytell. He also ignored me, the solo traveler, during a very cringey ice breaking activity when he asked where everyone was from. The lady next to me voiced for me and included me in the convo, and all I got from captain Mike was more secondhand embarrassment…. I wrote all this long to share the message to please consider the trade-off between a seasoned enthusiastic captain of a smaller company who runs all their tours, versus a novice(?) captain recruited and trained by a big company who works a shift schedule who will get you to where the tour dictates but that’s about it. And the small company who’s willing to do more for the customers for ratings and word of mouth recommendations in unexpected conditions, and a big company who’s got packed bookings that they run with operational protocols. It surely affected my tour experience!!! After a very meh morning, I went back and decided not to book that manta ray tour with them and went with another small company, which salvaged my day and I had a great time!!
We had another wonderful snorkeling morning with Sea Quest! Captain Brenna was a skilled boat driver and was very knowledgeable. She was extremely entertaining! The snorkeling spots were incredible, especially Kealakekua Bay ( Captain Cook Monument). We LOVE that spot!! We highly recommend Sea Quest and snorkel with them every time we come to the Big Island.
My husband and I just finished one of the best experiences we have had in a life time. We have gone on several other snorkeling excursions but this one by far blew everything else out of the water. Michael and Taylor were incredible guides. There are no cheese one liners or gimmicks. Instead, a tour with people who bring great positive energy for a good time. You will get a wealth of knowledge about Hawaii, see once in a lifetime beautiful scenery and wild life. We were lucky to see a bunch of dolphins, sea turtles and surplus of many kinds of fish on each of our stops which all had their own unique venues that we got to enjoy without being one of those tour groups sucked in with a bunch of others. Some of our stops along the way to our snorkeling allowed up to take an up close look sea caves, see the hillside scenery, other history built into the island. Even the food was incredibly freshly prepared and the time length for the trip was just about right with the afternoon weather rolling in. Let’s not forget Marilyn who helped us out initially getting set up. Hats off to her for providing prescription goggles which my husband was able to see better far than without. Overall, this was a hard trip to top for us and we recommend if you are looking for that small group excursion, take a peak at Sea Quest!
Snorkeling was fantastic. Boat was comfortable. And the crew (especially Ms B) was tremendous. Very attentive, engaging and skilled. Would definitely recommend.
The tour guys were really knowledgeable and took us to some really cool spots along the island. I would definitely do this excursion again
Natalie and Capono were wonderful for our snorkeling trip. We had a beautiful day and saw lots of sea life. They were very knowledgeable on where to go and pointed out wonderful viewing spots.
The guides were amazing providing us with everything we could have needed! The tour is about 4 hours and they work in several fun stops along the way and provide dozens of fun facts. This is snorkling on steroids! Oh and the location we stopped at to snorkle were too notch!!
Prompt, Professional and friendly snorkeling guides. We did the deluxe snorkeling tour in the morning and visited 2 snorkeling spots and several additional sites of interest. They provided area recommendations and suggestions.
Truly enjoyed this snorkel trip with Taylor and MJ as our captains/guide. Great camaraderie among staff and guests. Safety was a top concern. We were treated with a wonderful surprise - dolphins swimming along side the boat. In addition to snorkeling at two different sites we also heard history of Hawaii and saw a number of caves and lava tubes along the shoreline.
Kaitlyn and B's enthusiasm, knowledge and humor lent aloha spirit to our trip! That combined with competence made for a terrific day.
Brenna and Kaitlynn were amazing guides! They were always watching to be sure we were all safe. It was not only great and safe snorkeling, but a historical coastal tour of Hawaii. Best snorkeling experience I’ve ever had. I’ll be back!
Terrific crew—Taylor and ?? We are 18 on a larger zodiac. Snorkeled jn two beautiful lagoons. Made a few stops to see caves. Shared history of the area—very knowledgeable. Great snacks included.
We were a group of 11 multi generational group. 70 to 7. What a great trip! We snorkeled in two areas, it was timed to miss the crowds. We visited sea caves and got a history lesson too! Highly recommend this for small boat experience.
Amazing! The crew is absolutely incredible. So much knowledge, so much fun! MJ and Ryan were the best! We did the morning snorkel and saw 3 pods of dolphins and our night manta swim we saw dozens! We would not pick another spot to go. Seaquest is the best!
B and Taylor provided a fabulous experiences. They are fun and entertaining. Our 3 teenagers had fun seeing the dolphins jump and chase the boat. Snorkeling in a gorgeous area and cruising by the sea caves on the way home is a plus. Small boat was the way to go.
We had 3 adults and 2 teens on the deluxe morning adventure. Natalie and Taylor were awesome captains/tour guides and took great care of us. We only had 9 total in our group which makes for a much better experience than some of the bigger boats. One note of caution though, the boat didn’t have actual seats-you sit on the rubber edge like you do in a raft. It wasn’t bad, but my wife was a little nervous about it. Overall everything was wonderful. They had food, drink, and all the equipment you need. And you get to snorkel at probably the two best spots in Hawaii. I highly recommend Seaquest. They are a top notch operation.
Best snorkel trip I’ve taken so far on any of the islands. Captain MJ and Eli were charming, incredibly helpful and very funny. We enjoyed it so much that I want to say thank you to those two for making it a wonderful memory! Definitely will rebook next year!
We really enjoyed our snorkeling tour of the Kona Coast with B (Bee? Bea?) and M.G.! I wish it had been a warmer day, as we got a bit cold in our wet swimsuits as we traveled from one snorkel site to another, but it was very exciting to get to snorkel in 3 spots in one morning! The first was Honaunau Bay. We had already snorkeled there from Two Step, but entering the water from the boat meant we were in a different part of the reef. We saw lots of great fish, but the most exciting thing was a small reef shark! The second spot was further down the coast; we were the only people snorkeling there as it was more remote, and there were some sea turtles in addition to the beautiful fish. The conditions there were slightly more challenging as there was a little bit of swell; we weren't in a protected bay. The third place was Kealakekua Bay which is spectacular, despite there being so many people snorkeling there. It was an excellent morning! Zodiac boats are not my favorite kind of boat to ride, but I really appreciated that whenever any rubbish was spotted in the sea, they stopped to fish it out of the water and dispose of it properly on land. And it was fun to be in a smaller boat that could take us close to some of the lava cliffs to show us the fascinating geology of this very young island!
My wife and I went on the Deluxe Morning Snorkeling Adventure with Sea Quest on 6/2. This was our second tour with Sea Quest, and it was great! If you're considering this outing, you really can't go wrong. Sea Quest was again fantastic, and the snorkeling was excellent. Here are some more details: Company: Sea Quest was very easy to work with, and very organized. They did everything they could to make sure we not only enjoyed the outing, but that we got our money's worth. Throughout the course of the outing they were very safety conscious, and gave clear instructions to the group regarding how much time we would have and also where we needed to stay during our snorkeling to stay safe. Overall, they were outstanding and we would absolutely book with them again. Arrival: I mentioned this in our review of the Manta Ray night snorkel, but thought it was important to note it here again. You might not think arrival is that important, but it was definitely a differentiator once we got there. Sea Quest has their own area fenced off near the dock. They have picnic tables, a store, and people that are quick to get you checked in and answer any questions you needed. There were other manta ray groups staging around the same dock, but some were simply gathering in the parking lot or along the dock itself. It was really nice to have the separate area with attentive staff. Equipment: As was the case with the Manta Ray tour, I was able to get prescription snorkeling gear from Sea Quest at no additional cost. This made a massive difference for me during the outing, as I was able to see everything clearly in the water. The snorkeling gear we used was in excellent condition, and fit very well - the crew helped to ensure everything was on properly before we got in the water at our destinations. The Actual Outing: We chose the 8:15AM outing. We had a relatively small group of 10 people which was a perfect sized group for the boat. The ride to the first snorkeling location took some time, but it was a comfortable ride. Once we got to the first location, they outlined the areas where we should swim to see the best variety of fish, but also to stay a safe distance from the shore and from the boat channel in and out of the bay. We got our gear on and were offered a pool noodle to make the snorkeling a little easier for anyone that wanted one. The first area we stopped at looked somewhat intimidating, but ended up being a great area that wasn't as rough as it looked. We were able to snorkel for about 30-45 minutes and saw a ton of tropical fish, to include a white-tipped reef shark which was really cool! During our time in the water, the guides stayed close-by in the boat and were extremely attentive if anyone needed anything. Once we were done at the first location, we got back in the boat, where they offered us some snacks and drinks and a chance to dry off and warm up before the next location. On the ride to the next location they showed us some sea caves and discussed some of the different areas along the coast. At the next site we did essentially the same thing - snorkeling for 30-45 minutes where we saw a lot of great fish while the crew ensured our safety throughout. At the end of this we did some additional shoreline sightseeing, snacking and drinking on our way back to the dock. All in all, it was a fantastic experience with kind and knowledgeable guides who made sure we had a great time. Overall: Another outstanding experience with Sea Quest! We will book with them again without hesitation, and you should feel comfortable doing the same.
