Our family of five had a fabulous experience. The private tours were booked and I wasn't sure we would like the group setting as much, but Matt, the owner, has carefully considered and arranged every aspect of the tour to be excellent, fun and safe. Our picky teenagers and college student had not a single complaint and loved everything about the tour - equipment, thoughtful extras, gear, stops, instruction, rides to and from the route, instructors...every single aspect was very well done. It could not have been improved upon. Highly recommend!!!

We booked the Private VIP Buzz Tour (Unguided) and it completely blew us away! Riding up Haleakala in the all-electric VW Buzz van was a total vibe. The perks on this VIP tour are unmatched: amazing breakfast, great lunch, and the best homemade treats you will ever taste. Going unguided gave our group the perfect freedom to enjoy the 19-mile downhill cruise at our own pace without feeling rushed. High-quality bikes, incredibly friendly staff, and free merch to take home! Easily the best thing we did on Maui. Highly recommend Maui Bombers!

From the friendliness of Eric & Matt, the excellent quality of the equipment, the amazing FREE photos and video, to the homemade treats, it was by far our best experience on Maui!

We had an awesome ride! I sometimes get a little queasy going up a mtn in the backseat but Eric was a great driver and Matt kept us entertained along the way. Very little effort in the cycling with great guides and beautiful scenery. Since Eric was behind us in the car we never worried about someone coming up too close behind us. Our trip was in May and we could literally smell the flowers as we passed by. We left promptly on time and ended our ride with plenty of time left in the day to do other things. A couple of added bonuses were the small group of 5 didn’t make us feel like we had to rush or compete with others and the home made treats were delicious! Thank you for a great day!!!

Really great bike ride! Matt was an excellent host. The trek mountain bikes were perfect & we enjoyed being able to wear regular bike helmets. Felt like the 8am trip allowed us to have the road to ourselves & got the right amount of support along the way. The views were spectacular & the delicious snacks were icing on the cake !!

There are several bike companies to choose from in Maui for a Haleakalā tour. But Maui Bombers was the best choice for us for several reasons: one being they only guide groups up to 5 and their 8am start time is after all the crowds and traffic are gone. Having a small group is so much better than riding in a herd. And not worrying about traffic made the experience incredibly enjoyable and less stressful. The bikes are top-notch and well maintained. And the helmets were comfortable. Matt, our guide and owner, loves what he does and where he lives. His enthusiasm was contagious and created a fun and engaging tour. We opted for the 30 mile tour and are so glad we did! The route was downhill, super fun and paced perfectly for everyone in our group. Erik drove behind or ahead of us in their snazzy VW van to communicate traffic to Matt in the event we needed to yield. Their coordination was spot on. We never felt pressured by traffic and the timing of the tour ensured we had little traffic to contend with. Lunch provided at a local cafe was delicious!! For sure choose the burger or the fish sandwich!! All in all this tour is a 11/10! 10 stars!! Thank you Matt and Erik for the epic trip!

We loved the self-guided tour with Matt. We chose this tour to avoid the early morning and big crowds, and it was a perfect way to enjoy the scenic ride in a relaxed, personalized atmosphere. Matt was an incredible host and we loved the homemade treats and sweet ride in the electric VW bus. We also enjoyed the time we had to walk around town and have lunch with Matt. Highly recommend! We met Matt and Eric in front of a closed, flooded Target on 3/23/26. Maui had been hammered by rain for two weeks with more expected during our ride. We soon found out that all the other riders had canceled and it would just be me and my wife! Offered the option to cancel, we immediately declined. Matt agreed to take us and continue as long as the roads remained safe. The four of us chatted during the ride up Haleakala to our starting point. We are experienced cyclists but Matt gave us a safety briefing anyway. Rain gear was also provided (and greatly appreciated). The bikes were solid Trek Marlins and we were also provided with MIPS helmets with flip up visors, a very nice touch! Matt definitely knows what he’s doing and I could tell he knows how to manage a group ride! The first part of the ride was great with only a misty rain and lightly wet roads. The segment was made up of some gentle turns and rolling road sections with a nice short hill climb toward the end to make sure you’re paying attention! We stuck mostly to the shoulder and inside lane for this part. After a quick break, it was time for some downhill fun! Eric followed in the chase car, staying in touch with Matt by radio. We rode center lane, cruising through many downhill switchbacks. The rain was increasing but Matt managed the pace very well, keeping us safe at all times. We then hopped in the car, were treated to delicious homemade coconut muffins, and made our way to Makawao. We were offered the opportunity to spend a bit of time in town but the rain was coming down hard and we wanted to keep riding. Matt agreed to continue as long as the roads remained safe. Again, we set out riding the shoulder / inside lane for a mile or so, after which we moved to center with Eric blocking from behind. If you’ve never bombed Maui in a hard rain, you don’t know what you’re missing! We finished this longest segment in Paia, cruising through more downhill switchbacks and ending completely drenched with huge smiles on our faces! The ride back to town wouldn’t have been complete without more amazing homemade treats, this time Passionfruit Bars! My wife and I will definitely ride with Matt again next time we’re in Maui! Maybe the sun will even come out and we’ll actually be able to see the far off landmarks Matt pointed out along the ride!

My family chose to do the bike ride with Maui Bombers and we had the best experience. We arrived in Maui in the midst of a major storm but that was no deterrent for us. Fortunately Matt, our guide was up for the task and took extra precautions to assure our safety and comfort. We had the most beautiful ride and a lovely day. He baked us treats and offed up history of the area. When all the other tours we were scheduled for canceled this week, Matt was happy to ‘brave the storm.’ The bikes he provided were of exceptional quality (I am picky) and he had a huge selection of helmets. (Now I want to purchase a bike just like these). We are very thankful for this amazing experience and highly recommend Maui Bombers. My daughter Sis, really enjoyed Matt and his humor as well as the ride.

This bike ride was one of the best adventures we have done in a long time. The crew was just great with the super service they provided. They were super friendly and helpful and they always kept safety in mind. The bikes and helmets are a lot better than the other bike companies. The views that you see are awesome and the ride down is a whole lot of fun. The little extras that this company does is really nice. This is a no brainer of a trip to take with this tour company. I would do it again, and will highly recommend this company to others to take.

This experience was FABULOUS! I have done the big group tours before and this was a world apart! We received personalized attention, there was no big group to deal with, no long van ride picking up a bunch of other riders, no full face helmets that obstruct your view. Just a bunch of fun with guides who were super knowledgeable about the island and it's culture and history. We would do it again and again. Can't recommend it enough, as someone who has done both. It was a blast!

I’ve biked Haleakala 2 times now and this one was far superior to the previous guys. This one is a much smaller company, and the owner is totally invested! He even provided us with homemade baked goods. We will for sure be back!

Incredible experience from start to finish. The views are amazing, the bikes are top notch (comfy seats!), and the personal touch to include homemade baked goods makes this tour a must do. Out of all the things we did in Maui (scuba, snorkel, whale watch) this was our favorite. Thank you to the guys for being so accommodating and kind to my 16 year old, risk adverse son. Even the rain at the end couldn’t ruin this incredible tour!

As my grandboys say…Two Big Thumbs Up! Everything on the trip exceeded expectations. I could detail the tour and talk about all the great views but that is pretty much the same with all the bike tour companies that go up the volcano. Since we have toured with other companies, I want to tell you what I think Maui Bombers does better. If you want general information about the route, check their website. Communication- instead of only getting canned responses from the internet reservation program you get messages from Matt that respond back to his cell phone. Small Group- only six in our group. We jumped in a Honda Pilot and headed up the volcano with Matt and Eric. The small group size created a more intimate experience. We talked with each other, shared experiences and had laughs. Matt and Eric joined our conversations as well. We all got to know each other a little bit. You don’t get that on a bus with 15 other people. Hospitality- we were taken care of by the guys who run the company not employees who may or may not have the best interest of the company in mind. Matt fresh baked treats for us and worked to make everyone feel like family. Seriously, Matt could also be a baking star with his Coconut Muffins and Lilikoi Bars. Guess Eric doesn’t bake, but he does drive well. Equipment- we rode newer Trek mountain bikes with street tires. Comfortable helmets, windbreakers and gloves also provided if you like. Upgrade from the single speed heavy cruiser bikes most tour companies use. The Treks are nimble and easy to ride. Tour Route- we had a longer tour route than other companies, on the way down we passed the other groups loading up while we were on the way to the beach. Personality- Matt is a loud energetic let’s have fun kinda of guy, great for a guide. Played inspirational music from his bike to keep the energy up. Did I mention Matt is loud and animated? Eric is a little more reserved but is there to take care of business loading/unloading bikes, driving the safety car and just making sure everything is great. Great team, very professional. Safety- I don’t mean to imply that you will be unsafe on any of the other tours but we felt safe and taken care of on our tour with Maui Bombers. Good bike check and safety briefing and hand signals. I appreciate that Matt leads the way, warning if necessary and making turns on the correct roads. Eric followed behind in the safety car keeping traffic at bay and letting Matt know when we needed to find a pull off spot to let traffic pass. We saw one tour where the guide followed the pack, yikes…guide following? Our tour also left a little later allowing most of the local and tourist traffic to clear the volcano and villages so we had the road pretty much to ourselves.

Best bike trip ever! What differentiates Maui Bombers is the helmets, bikes, small group and awesome guides. Make sure you hit the Cycle Supreme! Thanks to Matt and Eric for an amazing experience.

We did the 0800 ride. Matt was great! And his snarkiness comes out in some of the responses to the reviews on here. He really does want every customer to have a great time... we did! . And his homemade treats and his buh-buh-bow self promoter button put that extra "11" on a scale of 1-10. The bikes are in great working order and we wore normal bike helmets instead of motorcycle helmets like others we saw on the road. Seriously? Motorcycle helmets? How about training wheels? Be sure to grab a malasada at Komoda's.

Matt & Eric were excellent guides, hosts & owner Matt led the ride which was super cool! Bikes were Trek Marlins that Matt modified to fit the ride & were in great condition. Fit for the rider, great brakes & very comfortable. Amazing views & the ride was exhilarating. Matt’s energy made it even more fun. We had a wonderful lunch in Paia & ended with a leisurely ride afterwards. Skip the rest & book this tour if you want to enjoy a great 1/2 day on Haleakala!

My husband and I recently finished a trip with Matt and his crew and it was nothing short of outstanding. If you want a personable, safe, and exciting trip down the mountain, this one is for you. Matt goes above and beyond in his hospitality and adds some personal touches that just make you think WOW! Matt and his team have customer service down pat while making sure you have a fun, exhilarating experience.

My third time coming down Haleakala. This was fun. My son and I truly “bombed” our way down. The guides were awesome and quality bikes.

Truly an over the top experience!!! I came here in 1987 for my honeymoon and watched the sunrise through the clouds surrounding Haleakala. That was a once in a lifetime experience - on the way down, my wife and I saw all these cyclists riding down the mountain road and it was something I had regretted not being a part of… Fast forward to present day 2025 and my son and I made the epic ride with Maui Bombers! Matt and Eric made the ride experience top notch! We met them at 8:00am and climbed into the Maui Bomber transport cruiser for a comfy ride up the mountain to 6,500ft. Once at the top it was just the 4 of us, Matt guiding us down the mountain while Eric drove behind us as a traffic brake allowing us to use the whole lane down the smooth mountain road, average speed of 25mph with a top speed of 35mph on a couple of occasions. The ride took us through Makawao where we took a small break and explored the town before continuing on to the beach. Which was a leisurely ride through some beautiful tree lined bike paths to Lower Paia. The bikes were Trek Mountain bikes which were multi-geared with hydraulic disk brakes and very comfortable seats making the ride experience extremely fun and enjoyable the whole way. On the way up the mountain, Matt told us what to expect and explained thoroughly how everything would proceed once we got to the top, teasing us with homemade coconut muffins and passion fruit bars as we progressed down the mountain. The vehicle was stocked with small cooler of water and Gatorade as well, if we wanted it. The treats did not disappoint!!! Except I wish he had provided more… Thank you Matt and Eric for helping to fulfill a bucket list item. I highly recommend Maui Bombers for your Haleakala ride experience!!!

There was only 4 offered stars or I would have given 5 stars. Matt was an awesome guide & provider. He was early for the trip. Super nice greeting & overview of our excursion. Bikes were top notch & well serviced. The ride was a great experience. We had a blast. Matt also provided home made muffins. They were excellent. Also provided water & other drinks. I really can say enough about our experience. Also, he provides bike helmets in stead of full face motorcycle helmets. That really made it enjoyable. Matt also provides wind breakers & gloves if needed. Looking forward to our next visit. I will highly recommend him to everyone. Thank. 😎

We skipped the other tour companies because of the early start times and those giant helmets, best decision ever. Matt was awesome, super laid-back, flexible, and made the whole ride feel personal and relaxed. No traffic, just amazing views and good vibes. The homemade snacks and drinks were such a great touch too. This was seriously one of the highlights of our trip. Thanks, Matt!

This Bike adventure is probably one of the best things we have ever done !!! Matt was amazing and really did an excellent job guiding us and keeping it safe and really fun !! The views were incredible , the different bike routes we took, the speed , the safety was unparalleled . Really something that should be in your bucket list

My son and I had a spectacular time. Matt and Eric were great hosts and provided us a fun and engaging bike tour. For safety, Matt gave practical and clear instructions on what to do (and what not to do). Eric followed in the rear in the Maui Bombers' vehicle protecting us from upcoming vehicles. Both were in constant communication the entire time via walkie talkie. The first half of the ride was fast with amazing views. It was exhilarating and energizing. For the latter part of the trip, we were able to see parts of the island that we would likely not venture to see as tourists -- e.g., Makawao and Paia. We stopped for a cup of joe and discovered The Maui Cookie Lady! We were pleasantly surprised that it was just the two of us on a Sunday morning. We pretty much had the road all to ourselves with Matt's famous coconut muffins, motivational music (Rocky Theme Song, Eye of the Tiger, and Bohemian Rhapsody), and some genuine conversations. Thanks for an amazing trip and making us feel at home. If you are into a safe personal experience without feeling like being part of the general population, this is the tour for you. Maui Bombers is highly recommended! Mahalo.

Maui Bombers Cycle Supreme tour was an awesome experience from start to finish - for my kids and me! Matt and Eric are wonderful guides and hosts. We appreciated the small group size (only three of us). The bike tour was amazing, the views are superb, and their attention to safety (support car right behind us) made me feel really comfortable, not just for myself but for my kids. The home-baked coconut muffins and passionfruit bars were out of this world. Highly recommend - if you're looking for a Maui bike tour, you've found it!

What an incredible activity this was for our family of five. Matt and Eric were so kind and focused on safety and provided clear instructions. They made us feel comfortable. This tour was fantastic in every way. Matt was easy to communicate with prior to the trip and you can tell he enjoys giving this tour. Everything was provided and after an easy and short trip up to our starting point, they got us set on our bikes and we started the tour. My family of five 16-52 loved the excursion. From the coconut muffins (homemade), to the breakfast at this little breakfast spot (with live music), to the sweet treat at the end of the trip (homemade as well), everything was perfect. Would definitely recommend and would do it again.

Come for the bike ride, stay for the muffins!! Seriously best bike ride ever. We didn't have to get up at o'dark thirty, Matt provided entertainment, homemade goodies (he definitely has a fall back plan in baking), great info and suggestions on the way up and even takes amazing pics so you don't have to worry about it. My daughter and I had a wonderful time.

Maui Bombers was epic! The owner, Matt, is awesome, and so were his other guides. Highly recommend the Wild Wednesday ride, which combines the best of downhill Haleakala, as well as some beautiful scenic rolling hills in Keokea for part 2, followed by a great lunch in Makawao.

The guides were fantastic. We loved the views, the music passion fruit slice and the ridiculously fast ride. Lunch at the end was delicious too.

Matt, Eric, and Kyle were fantastic host and guides! Matt is my number 1 baker. Eric is my wind sport idol and when I grow up I wanna be as cool as Kyle. An experience my daughter and I wont forget. The views were great and enjoyed the speeds downhill! A must do, and far better than the other outfits I read about before choosing this one. After the ride, get the Brie and Bacon sandwich. Its spectacular.

The "Cycle to the Sea" tour was an absolutely incredible experience and without a doubt the highlight of my trip to Maui. I cannot recommend this tour highly enough, and it's all thanks to the phenomenal team. From the very beginning, Matt and his crew were outstanding. They were incredibly communicative before the tour, answering all my questions and making sure I was fully prepared. On the day of the ride, their energy was infectious—they were so easy-going, fun, and genuinely passionate about what they do. The ride itself was breathtaking, but what truly set this tour apart was the focus on safety and support. The team did an amazing job making everyone, regardless of their biking ability, feel comfortable and secure. There were multiple checkpoints for the group to gather, which was a great way to take a breather and enjoy the scenery. The support vehicles were a constant, reassuring presence, ensuring the roads were safe for our group as we descended. Matt and the team were super accommodating to riders of all abilities and went out of their way to tailor the experience to different skill levels, so no one felt rushed or left behind. The lunch provided was delicious and a perfect midday break. To top it all off, they followed up almost immediately after the tour with amazing pictures and a video, which was such a fantastic personal touch. If you're looking for a fun, safe, and absolutely unforgettable half-day adventure in Maui, look no further than Maui Bombers. I would do this again in a heartbeat!

We visit Maui every year and this is one of our favorite activities. My teenage kids had a blast. Guides were safe but allowed space for some fun downhill riding too. Equipment was top notch. Small group. Bonus that they took photos and airdropped them to us at the end included, no an upsell. Thank you Maui Bombers!
