In 1899, James Dole, just 22 years old, moved to Honolulu from Massachusetts and purchased 64 acres of land in the central plains of Oahu. After trying several experimental crops, he settled on pineapple. This was the beginning of the pineapple empire. Dole created two canneries in Wahiawa and Honolulu Harbor and started advertising, resulting in nationwide consumer popularity. After bringing in automatic pineapple peelers, business boomed even greater. In 1950, a small fruit stand was created in Dole’s fields. A plantation-style home was erected in 1989 and turned into an archive and living museum, honoring the work and life of James Dole. A great warrior, diplomat and leader, King Kamehameha I united the Hawaiian Islands into one royal kingdom in 1810 after years of conflict. Kamehameha’s unification of Hawaii was significant not only because it was an incredible feat, but also because under separate rule, the islands may have been torn apart by competing western interests. Today, four commissioned statues stand to honor King Kamehameha I, Hawaii’s first king. The most recognized Kamehameha statue stands in front of Aliiolani Hale (home to the Hawaii State Supreme Court) across from Iolani Palace and a short walk from historic Kawaiahao Church and the State Capitol. Dedicated in 1883, this was actually the second statue created after the ship delivering the original statue from Europe was lost at sea near Cape Horn. Picture taking Stop upon Request.
Iolani Palace is a living restoration of a proud Hawaiian national identity and is recognized as the spiritual and physical multicultural epicenter of Hawaii. Captain Vince was fantastic. Learned lots of new Hawaii words and laughed through the whole tour. Such a fun day!!!!
Captain Vince is a great tour guide. He explains sites as we approach and walks with the group showing where to look and take pictures. This is not done by other drivers. It shows he wants us to have a great experience. Also talks about the Hawaiian language by repeating the words. I highly recommend this tour.
everything for me is great 😍 captain vince was amazing he never stop guided us the whole trip.. giving a lot of information teaching us some hawaiin words that i can’t even remember right away coz it’s my 1st time. hehehe! we have only small group, i can say not even small coz we are only 3. ohana💕🫶🏻
Some minor setbacks leading to rescheduling our tour and staying longer than needed due to circumstances beyond control but nonetheless a good time! Our guide, Justin, was amazing! We really loved how he tried to create a relationship with each guest due to how small groups are. We visited great landmarks, learned some history , listened to great Hawaiian radio, and had good quality chats with everyone. 10/10 would recommend as the main goal on every stop was to beat crowds and avoid lines :)
Our guide Captain Vince was fabulous via 1elite tours. Whole island experience with great overview of history and culture.
Perfect island tour for being in Hawaii for the first time. Toured with my family and we really enjoyed all the sight seeing spots, shops and food trucks. We learned a lot from Justin our driver and it was a laid back enjoyable ride!
David was the kindest, friendliest, knowledgeable guide we have ever had. We learned about the island by driving near and visiting many sites. It was a fun day of learning.
Good trip, we know everything described on the add, only think a lot stores to visit. Tour experience excellent
Justin our guide was awesome. He would make an excellent history teacher. We really enjoyed the all day tour.
Loved our guide…Captain Vince. We made a friend!! Went over/above to make sure our tour was memorable
Justin was our guide and he was beyond knowledgeable about the island, its history and culture and we appreciated having him as tour guide. The tour itself was great given his knowledge of the stops and directions and we particularly loved seeing the island on the drive, learning about the differences in the beaches on the different sides of the island, the macadamia nut and coffee stop, the temple stop where we fed birds that landed on my daughter (so memorable) and the botanical garden. The owner was really attentive to anything we needed the entire trip and even came to add a seat to the van for passenger comfort.
The owner Captain Vince was our driver for the day and he and his team are incredible, we missed all of the lines, had plenty of time to enjoy our stops, get great photos and make super memories.
The team especially Nina was very helpful especially when I initially I was afraid of the water, she made sure we were safe. Kudos to their team of powerful women. it was indeed a fun experience that I'll recommend!
Great tour for the money! Justin was our tour guide and he is a native Hawaiian which gives it a “local” feel. He is very accommodating and goes to side places sometimes which is great! We would do it again! A full 9 hours.
I would like to give Captain Vince a Mahola for rescheduling our tour due to the showers on Tuesday. Justin, the driver, was phenomenal. We were soooo appreciative of his personal knowledge of the history and culture as a native Hawaiian. We enjoyed all of the wonderful stops for pictures to capture memories. This is our first visit to Hawaii, and we stayed in Waikiki location that consists of similar expensive establishments that you will see in Las Vegas on the strip, Rodeo Drive, 5th Avenue in New York, or Magnificent Mile in Chicago. At first from my initial perspective, I was like "Hawaii is overrated " However, from this tour, Jason was very informative, down to earth, and engaged all of us with his detailed and knowledgeable descriptions. Make sure you EXPLORE outside of the Waikiki area so that you can learn more about the island, preferably from a Native Hawaiian. You will not go wrong from this experience!
Justin was excellent! Very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. He was also funny and kept us on time.
Justin was so knowledgeable about Hawaiian history and culture. We really enjoyed the hike to the waterfall. All the stops we made were good, well planned, and organized. We had a lot of fun, and the couple we met were friendly and nice.
It was horrible!! No communication. Morning of the tour we waited around only to eventually find out that the tour was cancelled except no one notified us! Will not use Viator again.
Tour was excellent, informative and fun. It was a great day for our entire group of 15. Captain Vince was friendly, funny, kept us engaged and provided information we were unaware of in a enjoyable manner. Plus he knows of a GREAT lunch spot.
Capt Vince was great, very informative. Full of fun and looked after all the passengers. Would use his company next time we in Hawaii.
Our driver was very knowledgeable about local history, where movies were filmed and where some of the celebrities live. He pointed out where President Obama grew up and surfed as a young boy and where he came to surf with the Secret Service in tow while in office. It was a very long day but time well spent. Most of the stops were on other tours so at times it was a bit crowded. We enjoyed it very much. Thank you Muasau.
Captain Vince was great!! My daughters and I truly enjoyed the tour. It was informative and fun. We had a small group and everyone just bonded together as a group. Captain Vince gave us so much information and had us all laughing. He even took us to a personal favorite restaurant of his, Nico’s on the Pier. Best part of our vacation!! Mahalo Nui Loa Captain Vince!!! A Team out!!!
Very informative and lots of fun ! We went to all the popular places and ate at at a great restaurant! Would like to have stayed longer at a couple of places but overall it was great!
Went on this tour around the island with 12 of my friends and I can honestly say that the tour by Hui,with driver Caleb and the knowledgeable ,witty and charming Justin has absolutely made our tour memomrable, without them the tour would not have been as good, having said that we stopped at just about everywhere and see many wonderful sites.Well worth the money.Hope you find your sunnies Justin.Aloha cuz.
I strongly recommend this tour, Captain V was an awesome tour guide. As I was traveling by myself I booked the tour to get to know more of the island, and I am glad I did it because I loved it.
the whole tour was brought to life by Captain vince. we enjoyed all the spots abd specially the Botonaical gardens and the waterfall
This day was simply AMAZING! I very rarely give 5 stars but this was outstanding, every single one was earned! It took me a long time to book this because other services the reviews had us mostly in a bus with little time to actually interact and see the sites. Not this trip. First, ask for Justin. I promise you won’t regret it. Now there were only 3 of us on our trip, I traveled solo and was joined by a couple, by the end of the day we were friends. Thanks to Justin I learned a robust history of Hawaii, saw beautiful sights, including the temple, the beach, the garden, waterfall, the palace, etc. Since we were so small we also got to choose where we went instead of the regular tourist traps and had an amazing lunch in a local spot away from the crowds. Like I said, amazing. It is a LONG day but worth every single penny and second. Go, enjoy, you won’t regret it. Oh I forgot, Justin also takes killer pictures! Seriously he used to teach media so this gave me the best pictures of my trip. They look professional. What an amazing bonus!
We loved the tour and Captain Vince’s narration. Learned and saw so much. Had children with us and they loved the whole experience too.
Fantastic tour. Wonderful friendly fun and laughter the whole way. Captain Vince is The Man… learnt a lot and had the best time. Would recommend this tour for the whole family.
Highly recommend 1Epic tour and Captain Vince! He is very knowledgeable of The Islands history and makes it a great tour! We will do it again next year!
Came all the way from Jamaica for this experience! He is best trust me. It’s basically a full tour with extras and freebies At different stops. He is gives questions at the end and you win prizes so make sure you remember all he teaches you about Hawaii. CONTINUE KEEPING PEOPLE HAPPY CAPTAIN. Alex n Marcy
This tour was the best ever in life. Solomon is just amazing, and the friendliness most knowledge guide to tour with. The next time I come back to Hawaii, I will definitely request SOLOMON. Thank you very much, we had a ball.
Captain Vince was awesome! My family really enjoyed him company and his expertise! His tour was fun and there was never a dull moment. I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a tour around the island and will definitely recommend him to my family and friends.
I've done many tours all over the world and I can honestly say Captain Vince is simply AMAZING!! You arrive as a guest and leave as family♥️
Captain Vince surely made the tour hassle free and lots of fun. He knows the ins and outs that there was no wasted time. He made sure our group learned something new about hawaii at the end of the day. Our family surely enjoyed the trip and would recommend to others!🙂
Captain Vince brings a ton of energy, enthusiasm, and humor to the trip. He makes an effort to get to know each person in the group and cater to their needs, whether it is to make an extra stop or recommend restaurants or visits they should make. I enjoyed getting to know others in the group as well with the fun, relaxed, and ohana vibe. I highly recommend any tour with Captain Vince.
Capt Vince was a great tour guide. Very friendly and personable. He pointed out so many interesting things. I was disappointed with the North Shore part of the trip did not see any turtles when snorkeling. The water was very murky. But overall we enjoyed the trip and do recommend Vince’s tour bus.
1 Epic your is your go to if you REALLY want to see and learn about Oahu. We had an EPIC time, with EPIC views, EPIC service, EPIC excursions. Captain Vince took us on Awesome Circle Island tour, he taught us about the island in between stops, he scheduled our tour to beat the tourist peak time traffic AND WE DID🤗! The pictures here are just a few of the stops we took for the specific tour we took with him but he also mentioned that he can tailor or customize tours based on what you want to see. Air conditioned bus, he has an awesome set up on the bus where he puts the pics he took of your tour on the screen between stops or he plays education videos about the island. He playfully tests your knowledge and shares more about himself. So you are never bored. Great for first time visitors to Oahu too! On a side note - He seems well respected in his industry and knowledgeable about all of the local policies for tours so that we had no surprises. He treated us like family and our first Hawaii trip was more memorable because of him! Thank you captain Vince’. As a travel agent, I want to know that my clients are well taken care of on experiences I plan for them and I am happy to refer you and my clients to 1 EPIC every chance I get! Mahalo, Captain Vince!
Captain Vince!! He’s the one to tour with! My family and I had a great time. Captain V was incredibly hospitable and informative. I’d definitely recommend him.
I looked at many tour options and this was seemed to best fit our needs! Papa P was our guide and he was quite knowledgeable and nice! The communication with the owner was fantastic. We got reminder texts before our visit and a text the night before to confirm pick up time and place. All were on time! The tour was a bit long for us. It was a VERY long day. We did enjoy most of the stops. I don't know if this was the "norm" but our tour was combined with another tour that was going on a hike at Waimea Falls. IF we wanted to do this it was going to cost an extra $20 per person. We were a party of 4 and considering we had already paid over $400 for the tour, we didn't really want to pay out another $80, plus the $18 per person that we had to pay extra for the lunch stop. It's quite an expensive day. Since we opted out of the Waimea hike we had to just "kill time" for 1.5 hours while everyone else went on the hike. We often do bus tours in new cities to learn and see all the sites. This one was on par with other tours we have done. It was our first time on the island and we wanted to see all we could. For that, it checked all the boxes.
My sister and I had an amazing time touring Oahu with Papa P. He has a wealth of knowledge about the history of Hawaii and its diverse population. We stopped at many amazing places along the coast and we loved learning a bit of the Hawaiian language, the history of the royalty, and hearing about his own family history on the Hawaiian islands. Thank you for the awesome experience. Aloha!
As first time visitors to O’ahu, we had no experience with tours of the island and wanted a great experience. My husband did some online research before our visit and because of great past reviews, we selected "The Awesome Circle Island Tour." (We booked through Viator). We were not disappointed!! Right from the start, our tour felt personal with a warm welcome and jovial conversation throughout. (It didn't hurt that our tour group only totaled 10 passengers). Our tour bus was clean and comfortable with big windows to allow maximum site lines. Our driver and guide, "Captain Vince," engaged with each member of the group - by name - and was especially inclusive of the kids on board. Vince is gregarious, personable, knowledgeable, and makes you feel at ease - all important characteristics of a great tour guide. By the end, he made us feel like a family! We saw great views from Diamond Head, Halona Blowhole, visits to cool stops like a macadamia nut farm, Waimea beach, Iolani Palace and Dole Plantation. We stopped for lunch at Fumi's Shrimp Shack ($ not included in the cost of the tour), which was excellent. We then stopped at a produce stand for a fried lumpia, something I'm sure I wouldn't have done without Vince's recommendation. I personally appreciated that Vince knew other tour guides and was friendly with all of them but wasn't shy about telling us he wanted to stay ahead of the other tour groups, lest we suffer bottle necking of large crowds (...and restrooms!) We learned a number of Hawaiian words and sayings, adding the all-important local flavor to our tour. By the end of the day, 9.5 hours had flown by, and I was a little sad to leave our makeshift tour group family. My husband and I both felt our time (and money) was well spent on "The Awesome Circle Island Tour." I'd highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to see the sites and become family with strangers... even for just one day.
The island tour with Vince was perfect from beginning to end. Vince not only provided us with a lot of island info and history, he was super entertaining and made our entire group feel like one happy family. We could not have had a better experience. Thanks, girlfriend!
Dirk was a fantastic tour guide! He was very knowledgeable and entertaining. He had lots of fun facts that were off script. He had a good mental map of the city knowing where hotels were without the GPS. We enjoyed all the stops on the tour. Epic 1 tours made accommodations for us when they realized we were coming from another part of island and would be late. They were great about directing us to pick new pickup point that was more convenient.
Captain Vince was a great guide! Had a wonderful time with him although we figured out no matter how hard he tried he would never be able to teach me to speak like a Hawaiian 😉.
Truly an Epic Tour! With Captain Vince at the helm, nothing can go wrong in this magical island tour. In less than a day, we were able to circle the island of Oahu dotted with memorable stops at the right places. Captain Vince made us all feel very much at home inside the bus with all information he shares about the places we visited delivered not in an academic way but in a narrative reflective of a truly local storyteller. Captain Vince was all fun and a dedicated aloha ambassador who truly enjoy what he is doing. Only one thing did not meet my expectations in this tour, a short stop somewhere in North Shore to take that coveted pictures of the winter surf, or if lucky, the banzai pipeline. But all was good that started and ended well. Very satisfied!!!
This should be the first thing you do when you get to Honolulu. Captain Vince ran a great tour. We got to see a temple, a waterfall, a beach, the Dole Plantation and other stops along the way, combined with great food and Shaved ice. Highly recommended.
First of all, this is my 1st time in Hawaii and it has been the most amazing day during my stay to be touring the island through 1 epic tour!! Captain Vince is definitely the best and definitely did an amazing job touring us! He is very knowledgeable, friendly, kind and funny that made the whole tour totally amazing! Ive learned new hawaiian words and can i just say, captain vince is definitely a really good teacher! The places we visited are also epic! The food we ate and the people we met made it more extra special! I will definitely recommend this tour to anyone, to my friends and family and i will definitely come back and book them again! Godbless and Mahalo nui loa!❤️❤️🙏🙏🤗
Our tour guide Vince was amazing!! Very friendly and knowledgeable about everything on the Oahu island. My family and I had an amazing time stopping at MUST SEE’S and getting unforgettable photos. We tried lots of food and he made sure that we didn’t miss out on any experience! 10/10 recommend this tour.
