Had a wonderful time kayaking. Not so much fun having to pull a heavy kayak through traffic to the beach.

It should be known that you have to pick up your kayak and take it to the water. If you have hernias or a repaired neck, it might not be such an easy task. We had to walk away from this excursion but no fault of the shops! He was very friendly and polite and offered plus a discount of purchase in his store just so it wasn't a wasted trip. If I could handle the kayak, it would've been a great day.
Amazing time! The clear bottom kayak was so cool- we saw so many fish and coral. Would def recommend doing this!
It was hard to see through the bottom and only saw a few fish. We saw Spinner dolphins which was really cool.
very friendly and great experience! this was our first time at the island and we have so much fun!!!
This was a great experience, we saw so much of the ocean through the glass bottom. Saw dozens of dolphins dancing in the air and below us too! Definitely do this one! Staff was very helpful and even helped us find good places to eat and snorkel
Chris was amazing to work with! The weather wasn’t ideal and he still made suggestions that would help us out and I was super impressed. We hope to come back to do it again!
We loved it! The person who helped was super friendly and helpful. We rented a 2 person glass bottom kayak and found it pretty easy to get it from the shop to the water. Didn’t see many fish but as we were about to paddle south, we were suddenly surrounded by dolphins. They put on an amazing show! We felt it was such a gift to see them.
Wife and I went on a trip to Kona for our anniversary and rented a Kayak. Dana was extreme knowledgeable and helpful for us first time kayakers.
Staff was amazing in every way! Had the time of my life! Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to experience an adventure on the water!
This was such a great time! It was a 10 min walk with Kayak to launch point of my choosing. It was safe and calm; I didn't feel rushed or nervous. Life jackets were provided with friendly instruction on Kayak use for a novice like me. I could see the reef below with the yellow tangs grazing by the coral. The staff were friendly and helpful. They were also honest telling me the day before conditions were not great. But I came back and I am soooo glad I did. Thank you Saltwater Soul for a wonderful time!!!
We are adventurous and active travelers. This experience was a disappointment, to say the least. The kayak sat too low in the water, so each wave we hit (not even white caps) came into the boat. The backseat paddler was constantly bilging water out. When we approached closer to shore, the kayak was completely full of water, like a bathtub. The “glass bottom” felt like a gimmick. Even when it was dry, you could not see through the “glass” because of the glare of the sun. We booked a full day and returned it within one hour, and we were not asked how it went, or what went wrong… the associate only asked for us to recommend them to others. I would not recommend this experience to anyone.

Check in and check out was a breeze. Very friendly business and owner was super helpful. It is a bit of a walk to the boat launch but worth it. Clear bottom kayaking is the way to go!
Seeing how beautiful the water is. We had to carry the kayak to the water and they are a bit heavy. We saw nothing below the bottom was very scratched. I would kayak again but maybe choose a closer location where we would not have to carry it.
We rented two 2-man kayaks and went out with our kids (7 & 11). It took less than 10 mins to wheel the kayaks to the launch point at the beach. We rolled them down the sidewalk on the ocean side with no problem. We easily made our way south past the pier and explored the bay. We really enjoyed relaxing while looking for fish. We’ve gone kayaking in various locations. This one was just perfect. We didn’t have to kayak far to see sea life, the water was calm, and other than the glass bottom boat passing by every once in a while, there were no motorboats. There’s also no jet skis! We had fun and would do it again!
Had a great time, we kayaked for 2 hrs which was the perfect amount of time. The people that helped us were very helpful and gave us great tips.
My boyfriend and I sailed to Kona on a cruise, but opted to do more local-friendly excursions and this was definitely a highlight! Kona itself is fun and awe-inspiring, but getting out on the crystal blue water and getting a view in to the sea life directly below you is next-level. Truly an unforgettable experience, and anyone who complains about having to cart the kayak the short walk it takes to get down to the beach has clearly never ocean kayaked before. Even if you only have a few short hours in port, get it a shot!
This was great fun and we could see so many fish near the pier. However I would say that you could see just as many fish by looking over the side of the boat as you could by looking down to the clear bottom because the water was calm and very clear
Very fun, great equipment! Activity was just as advertised, the shop is great and the owner is super helpful
Chris was awesome! Gave clear instructions for use, safety and tips. Was very informative on everything from the kayaking to the area as well as gave us great dining places! He also was more than happy to let us get a 2nd Kayak at no everything cost if we were more comfortable with that. Hands down a blast and would highly recommend to anyone!!! The view through the clear bottom was awesome!
We’ve paddled in ocean kayaks and sit-on-top kayaks since the 1980s, but had never heard about these clear-bottom kayaks, so we were eager to rent one. The day we reserved was clear and sunny, with an onshore breeze and waves less than two feet, so we had every reason to expect a delightful day on the water. Unfortunately, the experience was a thorough disappointment. These boats are not self-bailing, and ours quickly filled with water faster than we could ever hope to pump it out. As any experienced kayaker knows, a boat full of water is hard to maneuver can be quite dangerous, even if internal flotation will keep the boat from sinking. Because of their design, these boats are not safe except in calm waters—particularly for people who lack experience. This company should know that, and it should not have sent us off to paddle a submersible.
This was so much fun to do, we seen s pod of dolphins, eagle ray, and colorful fish! The ocean is so blue and just beautiful! Great island adventure. And the best part was the service! Chris was extra friendly, serviced us well, gave us great directions and what to look for. He had life vests for all 6 of us, his equipment was fully equipped with extra accessories. He also held our belongings in a container at the shop, so we didn't have to leave valuables in the car. He also gave us couple minutes more for us walking to kayak location. Mahalo, Chris!
A landscape like no other in the world. The darkest-brightest most magical place on earth. We saw actively erupting volcanoes and beautiful waterfalls. Banyan trees are the most fascinating trees I have ever seen in my life. Night swimming with the Manta Rays is a must! Can't wait to go back and travel the other islands.
Great experience with this business. Quaint little shop in downtown. When we arrived, our kayaks were ready to go with paddles, microfibers, bilge pumps and fish ID cards. They were strapped to a set of wheels that made it super easy to walk them across the street for entry. We had enough people in our party to have folks stay with the kayaks while two people carried back the wheels. We were given a bike lock to secure the wheels if we wanted to. Entry was easy at the bay right across the road. Had a great time out on the water. Would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting. Lots of stuff to see and a great way to spend a morning.
It was cool to have a clear bottom kayak, but it was a little strange. I had to pull the kayak on wheels about a half mile on a small and crowded kayak and when done, put it back on wheels and do the walk again. I went back to the beach I went out of a few days later and easily rented a kayak right on the beach and cheaper for 2 hours. Way easier… you can see in the water anyway because it’s so clear.
Definitely a “Must-Do” if your on the main island. If your going to rent a kayak, this is the way to go. We paid for 2 hours for a 2 man kayak and they basically rented it to us for the day. We kayaked for about 3 hours. Definitely a good deal! They were very nice and accommodating. It was cool to be able to see the coral and fish below through the bottom of the kayak.
The staff was very patient and made sure we were comfortable. I got a little sea sick. It was a bit of a pain walking down busy streets pulling a kayak. It was very cool to be able to see the fish thru the bottom of the kayak.
Clear Bottom Kayak Rentals provided us with unforgettable very positive experience! I would recommend everyone who likes active vacation to check it out.
Fantastic kayak experience! Got to glide alongside dolphins! Perfect place to put in right at rental shop. Owner was super nice!!!!
This is a great place to rent a clear bottom kayak! Very Sweet service and all! I would highly recommend trying it out! Great prices!
We absolutely loved Saltwater Soul’s glass bottom kayaks! We love the water and we’re excited to see it from this view. We have a 1 year old who’s very comfortable on the water so we were happy to take her out with us (we brought her life jacket for the experience to make sure it fit). Lori, one of the owners, was beyond accommodating. The boat was in pristine shape. They provide you with everything you need, even a “fish identification card” to ID what you’re looking seeing. The experience was fantastic. We rented all day (9 am - 4 pm). Took it in and dropped the boat off to go get lunch. Then went out again in the afternoon. The water was perfect, clear, safe for a kid. We absolutely loved it!! Will do it again when we return to Kona!
These clear bottom kayaks are so cool! You can see more below through the bottom of the kayak than from above the water! We saw dolphins, barracuda, a shark and breaching whales! So exciting! The owners are really nice family people too! They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Thank you Lori!
We had an awesome time, the kayaks were very new and Viator/Groupon offered a great deal for the experience. $23 per person for a tandem clear kayak for an hour which was enough for us newbies. If you get the two hour deal you get to use the kayak all day long. We saw fish and corals. Check in did take about 30 mins so plan accordingly. Also note that you should be able to lift and push a little bit as the shop is across the street from the water, about 5-7 mins walk pulling the kayak and you will need to load and unload the kayak. Which wasn’t hard if you’re pretty able bodied or have help (I couldn’t have done it alone). My parents were able to manage they’re in their 50s-60s. The operator was super nice and they sell sand cloud towels too! Would totally book again and recommend to friends
Seeing the dolphins under water, literally under my feet was amazing, lucky for me whales are in season and saw them up close for the first time! The store is right across the street from the beach made it easy to load the kayak into the water, the kids loved it as much as I did and will be back next time as we come to Kona often! 5 stars
