They call it the Feast and Fire Luau, but let me tell you, there was absolutely NOTHING "feast" about it. I paid $580 for three of us to join a large wedding party, and not one of us could eat the food. While the performance was fine, the food was such a huge letdown that it completely ruined the night and felt like throwing money down the drain. What they served on that buffet table was essentially cold, soggy, overcooked hospital food. After the wedding, we moved to the Royal Kona and got a room overlooking their luau, which only showed us what we missed out on. They had freshly grilled ribeyes, smoked pig, fresh fish, and real poke and salads. Real hot, fresh, actual food. Don't waste your hard-earned money at the Outrigger unless you want to leave starving and regretting the spent cash.

The food was just ok, although it was plentiful. Before show activities were a nice touch. The show was good, but seemed much shorter than when I attended in 2019. No photos allowed was a bummer....for the cost, should have been able to take all the photos you want. Not sure it was worth the cost.
Ck in was easy, everyone was friendly and the demonstrations you can participate in are wonderful. Buffet is plentiful and delicious. Entertainment is delightful. I recommend you attend a Luau at least once when you're on the Island. My younger sister came to Kona with me on this trip, her 1st time ever to any Island, Kona is my favorite Island 🌺 Aloha
Awesome family experience for all ages .
The Feast and Fire Luau at Outrigger Kona was the most beautiful way to tell stories, I have ever seen. It was very touching and emotional and the whole audience got into it. I am so glad I chose to have this experience. We did so much as well. We snorkeled, went to 4 beaches, shopped, enjoyed everything at the Outrigger, pools, food, golf, and Spa/Massage; and everyone there was so kind. Voyager 47 has the best breakfast and Dinner!
Wonderful experience. The venue was beautiful and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Food was excellent and the dancers and stories that were shared along with music are something I will always remember. Love the Hawaiian culture!! Aloha!
Food was delicious. Show was a little slow would have liked to see more of the fire dancing.
This was our first time in Hawaii so we decided to try a luau. There were really two options near our place so we carefully reviewed the description of both. We knew that the luau at the Royal Kona Resort was on the water because we could see it from our condo. However, this luau advertised an oceanfront location. They also advertised more fish options including a Poke Bar and also an open bar. So, they close the bar at 6:45 before the show starts and the specialty drinks were basically super sweet mediocre drinks. The Poke Bar was so lame and with 4 choices so I wouldn't call it a "bar". The food was average at best. The entertainment was good and the we did enjoy that. The story telling was interesting and the dancers were fantastic. Everyone just sits at long tables in front of the stage. One of the biggest disappointment was the inaccurate description of the location. It is not oceanfront at all. In fact, you can't even see the ocean. The picture that they use for their advertisement shows a woman on the sand with the ocean sunset in the background. That's what we thought we would see. However, you need to walk past the buffet table and pass a large building and walk up to the fenced lounge and pool area to see the ocean. We take our sunsets on the ocean very seriously and we were completely unable to view it at all. We could have walked to the other luau at Royal Kona Resort and had the most beautiful backdrop ever. We complained about this and our concerns were completely dismissed. It is total false advertising. There's an open bar until 6:45, there was no poke bar, and it is definitely not oceanfront. We were very disappointed with this experience.
The luau is outdoors and subject to the weather. The dancers were great, but a “no video” policy precluded any pics or video of the best part of the performance.
Was a lot of fun and everything we hoped for and more. Once we found the location. It was hard to find where to enter and the resort staff was no help.
This was ridiculously overpriced and quite boring! The only good part was the fire guy and that was a short part of the show
This was one of the greatest experiences in Kona. The atmosphere and seating were amazing! The food and show was incredible. I would definitely recommend this tour, and I would come back to see it again.
Great experience. Good entertainment and food. Orchid wristlet making was fun.
The dancing was cool but the food was alright, they didn’t show the pig being pulled out and we had to pay $40 for parking. Pay for the premium seating and really wasn’t worth it, got the same experience as everybody else.
Food and show were excellent. It would've been nice to see the meat come out of the ground as being part of the luau.
What a great experience. Wonderful food and entertainment. Plenty of activities to do prior to the show. Rich with culture and history. The firedancer portion was thrilling!
Buffet dinner was excellent. The show was great especially the fire dance. Staff was very friendly. The view was awesome. Would highly recommend.
The experience was stressful because when we arrived, I was told that Viator had canceled my reservation for the six of us. The outrigger, however, was outstanding and they accommodated us in spite of the mixup with Viator. This makes me question using viatot in the future if I can't rely on the fact that their communications with the vendors is going to be accurate.
Food is tasty and flavorful. Wonderful show but no recording of photography during main performance. Great way to spend your last night on the island
Excellent meal and entertainment. Beautiful location😊
The staff was amazing! They went the extra mile to make sure all attendees were tended to. The food was excellent. The show was good but seemed a little short
Luau was in a conference room on a stage. Food was set up like a banquet, hall, buffet, and low quality. Don’t waste your money
This Luau was planned by my daughter, bride to be, to celebrate her wedding the next day. Wanted family and friends to be together. That did not happen. From arrival things just started going from disappointing to rude and just the worst luau I have been to. First, the Luau was moved inside for a storm that never happened. The Luau ambiance decreased by 50% being indoors, I felt like I was in a school cafeteria . The person at check in was the on who had worked with our daughter and stated she had her whole group together at table 14. Arriving at the table there were 2 people, not apart of our group already seated. Another employee came by which I explained the situation, and his reply to me " so you want me to kick them off your table!" He was not joking and this was embarrassing, I replied that our group was to have the whole table. We realized at that time that we were short 4 seats for our group. Our daughter went back to the check in table to find get additional small table added for the needed 4 seats. She was told by the original lady helping her there was an additional tables, 9 and 10. Moved family members to Table 10, getting settled and the same worker who made the rude comment to me above, had our daughter in tears when he said that those tables were not included and they had to move. They move to the back, and ended up the last table to get food. What was upsetting, was seeing Table 9 empty all night, and the family that was at Table 10 left when they were done eating. Very poor organization and extremely poor customer service the way our group was treated by one of your employees. The only good part was our grandkids got to go on stage for the kids hula lesson, but that was with me telling them to just go up, since the hula gals asking for the kids only went to the front tables. The rest of the Hawaiian dances and entertainment was more on the level of a talent show performance, than professional Hawaiian / Pacific Island dancers. The last performance of the fire show, of course needed to be out side, but only the first people out got front row ( and didn't move) to see the show and we were in back and saw tops of the flames. Disappointed that an announcer didn't kindly ask the tall people to allow shorter people in front. To reference my point on your entertainment, and Luau, I have been to the Smith Family Luau in Kauai, they are the top of the line in all aspects of a Luau. Our son and his family traveling from Minnesota had been looking forward to their first Luau , and were so very disappointed in the whole experience. Our daughter looked at this negative and upsetting experience at your Luau, as an omen that her Wedding the next day at the Royal Kona Resort would be perfect, and it was!
The luau is on the lawn of the Outrigger hotel - it was a very nice evening and we had showers and saw a rainbow. As noted by others, not on the water. There was some activities beforehand like stamping and bowling - the drinks were good and the food was tasty. Wasn’t sure where the restrooms were? Had to go a long way into the hotel but maybe there were others not marked? The cats wandering around there isn’t anything they can do about I’m sure but those poor meow meows. The show was good - our first one so nothing to compare it to. Overall a relaxing evening, it was neat but for the cost/price we probably wouldn’t do it again. Mahalo.
Fantastic food and amazing show! Authentic and highly entertaining! Kids got so excited to see the flames and learn how to dance
The "luau" was moved inside because there was a chance of rain. I understand there must be a delicate balance of making it work, but it was horrible inside. It was a convention center, very brightly lit, a big buffet only, and it felt just like a bad cruise ship show. We decided to leave early and everyone we approached told us they were unable to validate parking and to go to the hotel, so we did and the hotel told us that the parking and the hotel were two separate entities and they were "unable" to validate either, so we paid $24 more dollars for that. I was so sad and disappointed. Suggestion would to be have it outside with the food and the entertainment under a tent, and allow patrons to decide if they want to risk the weather...because the atmosphere absolutely ruined any type of cultural fun or learning.
This was a great experience for our anniversary dinner. We made postcards and orchid bracelets before the show, open bar, great food. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because once the show started, the buffet was never replenished. Its supposed to be all you can eat. Also, photos/videos were not allowed during the show. Umm I paid good money for this, I'd like to snap a few photos for my memory book.
Food was good but not the best I have had.
The luau show was good and the food was very good. It rained on us which really dampened the mood of the crowd, making it tougher for the entertainment to get people excited and involved. Yes, it is clear they advertise "rain or shine" but for as much as people pay to attend this show, I cannot understand why this hotel venue doesn't have a better back-up plan than a dollar store clear plastic poncho. The price per person for general admission was rather expensive, and add another $30 per ticket for the option to cancel if you cannot attend before the deadline.
The spread was great. The food was delicious, and the entertainment was top tier. We did a few luaus around the island and this one was the best one.
This is not the cultural experience I was hoping for. This was an express version. I highly recommend finding a traditional vs. resort style. Very disappointed.
Great drinks, good food, fire show was amazing. Instructions said parking was $10 per car but actually cost $40
It rained ealrier in the day so the event was moved indoors. It was horrible and very disorganized. A lot of money for what seemed like a lunch during a co conference inside a hotel co ference room. The best part was the fire dancer that was outside under the portal. Should have been cancelled entirely instead of being moved inside.
Unfortunately it rained so we were notified at 11:07 am that it was being moved to inside a building. It was too late for us to cancel since it has to be 24 hrs prior. It was not the same thing. I booked it mostly for the experience of being outside. The performance was good but the meats most of them were extremely dry/overcooked with very bland flavors. I am sure that is due to tayloring to so many pallets. So that takes out the claim of being authentic. We splurged on a private table not worth it just sit in regular seats. You will not miss the show.
Food was mostly cold. A luau is supposed to be a pitted pig and should have only served pork, delivered from the pit to the serving tables. Part of the ceremony! but the history of the show and the show itself was great!
Overall it was a good experience. However, your website should not state all you care to eat considering you dont give guest enough time to even get more food. My group was the very last table to go up and by the time we got through and sat down you started cleaning up. My group had people who wanted more food and drinks and couldn't get it. The price is a little high for an experience where you actually dont get to eat all you want. The dancing and fire dancing was great. It was also neat to make the Leia wristlet but wish they were necklaces instead of wristlet.
It was moved indoors after some rain earlier in the day. My pre-information about the venue said “bring rain gear because it can rain during the outdoor event. We did and so were surprised it moved indoors. The show was good and the fire artist, dancers snd musiciand were good but I’ve been to same priced Lu aus in Maui that had more than twice the number of dancers The fire juggler was great. The bar had quality wines and drinks
It was nice atmosphere and gorgeous open space for the performance. We weren't happy about the time allowed to get food (no seconds). The show itself was nice, but it lacked excitement and eye catching dancing.
It was fantastic, slow paced enough to wear you got the experience and food was fantastic. Fast paced enough to keep you constantly engaged and the fire twirling was phenomenal.
The food was good. We would have liked more interaction with the audience during the performances. The booths were too expensive. Scenery was beautiful. Staff was very nice.
Pricing seemed average for the island. The buffet food was varied and good flakey white fish, Kahlua pork, bbq chicken & beef with Ube (purple sweet potato) with salad, slaw, rice two kinds of bread. We were the almost last table to go eat in gen seating and the food was replenished often, so we had all the choices. There were 4 different desserts and unlimited drinks that ended about an hour before the end of the show. Games and crafts were offered prior to the show beginning. All Dancers were good and the fire fighters number was a humorous addition.
Over priced. Only one fire dancer, boring show, dinner was mediocre. Flies all over the food. Not very organized.
Not your traditional luau. Open bar not great, it closes once the show starts. The show was just not what I expected. I've been to a few and I feel my daughter's halau does a better show. The show was only 45 min.
We attended this luau as a family on vacation . This particular luau is a story based on Hawaiian culture. If you are looking for something else in a luau this is not for you. We were moved inside due to weather which was fine the show was still great and they even provided the fire dancing at the end outside. Which our kids loved. The downsides were they seemed short staffed and while they tried to have order for the Buffett line and try to go by tables lots of people wjet randomly. Additionally as other reviewers have said the food was okay and it was cold by the time you sit down. We disintegrate go for the food so for us it was not a big deal.
Very educational and fun show. The dancers were amazing! The food was great. The overall atmosphere was fun and energetic.
I thought this luau was going to be located on the beach. It was located on the resort lawn with a beach view to one side. They ran our of flowers during the lei making activity which was upsetting because only one of us got to make one. The buffet had some good food but some of the desserts and fruits both ran out so we didnt have the option to try them. For $200 a ticket they shouldn't have run out of anything. They did offer free (alcohol and non alcohol) drinks during the show. The show itself was great! They did offer after show pictures with the performers. We did general seating and it was first come first serve basis. We were there early so we got a decent seat. Looking at the layout it looked like every seat was probably decent. Im glad we didnt upgrade our seats. They do not provide leis at the show but we went to Safeway and bought some before hand..to be more festive. Overall it was fun and would recommend.
Fyi, the event is actually 2.5 hrs from the time they start to let everyone in until the end and not 3 hrs as stated. However, everyone was nice and helpful. The food was was good though not what I was expecting. The performance was good and entertaining.
We gave this Luau a try even though it is not that well rated on Tripadvisor. They have an open bar but we didn’t see any overly drunk folks. They say they have general seating, but we found out the hard way that some of the supposedly general seating tables are actually reserved, apparently for large groups. These tables were not clearly marked as being reserved. We were asked to leave the seats we had selected and by then most were taken, so we wound up at the back in additional tables they brought out. Apparently they hadn’t initially set up ample seating. The food was typical buffet style. The kalua pork and chicken were good, the fish was rather tasteless and chewy, and the teraki beef was tasty but tough. They had a nice selection of deserts that were very good. They didn’t unearth a roast pig as we have seen at other luaus. The fire dancer was very entertaining. The rest of the show was OK although somewhat tedious. The MC sounded like someone reciting a script rather than a storyteller. Other than the fire dancer we found the free hula show at the Keahou Shopping center (Fridays at 6PM) more enjoyable. If we were to do another luau in Kona we’d go for the Island Breeze at the Marriott downtown or Voyagers of the Pacific at the Royal Kona.
For a hotel of this size it has a small restaurant with limited choice and is outrageously over priced. They tend to be more event friendly that customer friendly. The noise from events in their courtyard can be so noisy it can drive you out of your room and it goes on until 10PM. If you complain I was told "they pay more money than you" . I found them rude and unsympathetic. I do not recommend. The Luau was nice, not to loud and over before 8PM.
The food was nothing special and the atmosphere was OK. I would probably look elsewhere next time. The performance was good but a little tacky with the fireman bit.
