Not the cheapest thing to do on the island, but we think it was worth the price. We had a wonderful time in a well maintained and clean helicopter. Great pilot!
This was an awsome flight. Our pilot, Shane, was fun and extremely knowledgeable about the island. We covered the nearly the entire island and Shane kept up a running commentary. I THOUGHT the Filich was going to be Kilauea, which we orbited over for quite a while. It was just starting to show a little lava, which was exciting, as we knew an eruption was imminent. But what really blew me away was our visit to the Kohala coast. Flying through the canyons with waterfalls up to 2000 feet(!) high was amazing. If you’ve ever watched the scene in Jurassic Park where they first arrive on the island, you’ll hsve some idea what it was like. Well worth doing.
Absolutely stunning! Our tour guide Jeff was AMAZING!! It was breathtakingly beautiful! I cannot think of a better way to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary!
This was the best thing we did on the trip. And we saw the 50th eruption of Kīlauea, hiked the Kīlauea Iki crater, ran the Kona half marathon, went to the Farimont Orchid luau, and did the manta ray night dive. So saying it’s the best is saying a lot. We got pilot Greg. I’m sure all of the pilots are wonderful but Greg was made to give these tours. He found his calling. Greg programmed his own playlist for the flight. We took off to James Bond and returned to these are the days. He waited just a beat before dipping into a canyon so it coincided with a swell of the music. He answered every question, asked each guest about their lives and found a way to connect with everyone. “My uncle played football there” and to someone from the Midwest “welcome to topography” with a good natured smile. He really personalized the experience. We sprang for the first class seats which just means you pay more to sit upfront. There are two seats plus the pilot in the front row and four in the back. I can’t speak to the view in the back so it might be just as amazing, but with windows from the floor level on up, I felt the extra money for the front row was worth it. We could look down below us with ease, and of course out the front, sides, and up. He was safe, friendly, and gave tips on how to enjoy the rest of the island (take his advice on going to the butcher shop in Waimea for lunch). 10/10 no notes. It could not have been a better experience. Shout out to the staff who checked us in, went over safety regulations, and took pictures of us near the helicopter. I hope the company takes care of their workers because they all took care of us.
Excellent guide (James) had a lot of facts to impart about Hawaiian and geological history. I felt safe flying with him at the controls. He made a wonderful soundtrack of music to listen to during the flight. Very enjoyable!
We absolutely loved the experience and it was the highlight of our trip to the Big Island. Our guide was very able and knowledgeable, the sights spectacular and the day was perfect. I can recommend this to everyone.
We took the waterfall package. The sights of this island are amazing. And with Greg as your pilot you will have a great time! Landing at a breathtaking waterfall is a unique experience that you won’t want to miss. Pro tip: bring sun screen and bug spray. When you land in the rain forest the only thing to be worried about is sunburn and mosquito bites. Otherwise it’s a 10/10!
I honestly feel that the best value is likely the cheapest excursion based upon what we experienced, watching the speed of the aircraft and the flight plan. I think that the best way to experience Hawaii is a combination of both flight and ground transportation to visit the things that interest you. Matt was very knowledgeable and courteous. Very enjoyable experience but I feel that it is a bit overpriced.
It was truly amazing. Our pilot was very knowledgeable. Truly amazing views. Only negative was the glare in my pictues from the lady siting in front of me.
It is worth the dollars. Gives you a massive view of the entire island. We had a great pilot that knew the legends and history.
Mat was incredible. The ride was smooth and he is very knowledgeable. We are very glad we took this tour. The view are breathtaking.
Don’t always get the best seat determined by weight unfortunately clouds can cause the itinerary to change but you can get a refund
Absolutely amazing - a definite must do on the Big Island. Our pilot Greg was superb taking us all around the island and showing us stunning scenery, live volcanoes, beautiful waterfalls etc all to his great commentary and perfect soundtrack. All the staff were so kind and helpful in getting my husband into the helicopter. They even have a special lift to use as he’s in a wheelchair. A day we will never forget. Thank you so very much
Extremely professional and well-run. I really appreciated that our pilot had a calm demeanor, while sharing interesting details about our trip. It was interactive and friendly.
We booked a Blue Hawaiian Helicopter tour of the Big Island 10 years ago when we were on our honeymoon. We went back in Feb 2026 to repeat the experience. Our pilot, James did not disappoint! We were able to fly close enough to Kilauea to see the changes that have occurred both from the 2018 eruption and the recent fountaining. James was also able to get us into some of the lush, green, beautiful valleys and we even saw 4 or 5 humpback whales! James had a wealth of information and was a great pilot! See you in another 10 years!
This trip was great. Beautiful equipment and first class operators. I will use this company on every vacation in places they operate. We try so do a lot of excursions while on vacation and this one totally made our trip and exceeded all expectations.
What can I say but that spectacular really is the best word to describe this tour! The staff and pilot were awesome. The sights we saw were amazing. The landing at the waterfall is a must see. Definitely worth adding to your trip itinerary.
This is the sixth time that I have taken a ride with these incredible pilots. The ground crew and the office staff were all professional and friendly. Seeing the island by Air is absolutely the most amazing experience ever.
Booked the Big Island Volcano tour and the pilot refused to fly near Kilaua even though I asked him to. The tour was on our 25th anniversary and to see the Volcano was the only gift I wanted. He only took us over old fields! Disappointed!!
Great staff, James was an amazing pilot. He was very friendly, informative and interactive. However the actual experience, for the price, was slightly underwhelming. I would recommend this if you are trying to see the island and NOT driving to any destinations. We had driven a majority of the island and the sights, so when we did this it was kind of a repeat. You do get great views from above but you do not stop anywhere scenic like some of the other tours advertise. Also it is important to note that the video and photos do cost extra, something we found unfortunate for the price of admission. Overall, good experience, great staff but the experience itself a little underwhelming.
Greg our pilot was awesome very knowledgeable would recommend to anyone interested in viewing the Island hidden treasures 5 stars Thanks for the awesome experience
Premier helicopter tour. Our pilot, Mat was professional, informative, and a warm person. He expertly navigated narrow valleys and made sure everyone had a bird’s eye view of the volcanoes. This was 2nd visit. We used them 20 years ago and they upped their level of professionalism since then.
We appreciated all the safety protocols Blue Hawaiian had in place. The flight was under two hours and seating was comfy. The best view was had by the couple who sat next to our pilot. There are four seats behind those three seats so the copter holds seven including the pilot. I got a big kick out of the musical soundtrack. Magic Carpet Ride played as we took off, Jimmy Buffett's Volcano was on as we circled Kilauea and the theme Music for Jurassic Park played as we flew through a dense jungle gorge. These people have a great sense of humor. It was fantastic seeing parts of the island that one cannot get to any other way. All good things must come to an end and we weren't ready to land but we did. I highly recommend this adventure.
Shane, our pilot, was knowledgeable and a great tour guide! You are able to see waterfalls in valleys and on the side of the island.
This was one of the BEST experiences ever! The tour was incredible- our pilot, Shane, was knowledgeable, fun and completely experienced, so we felt safe the entire time. The flight plan he chose with the sights and beauty of the island were so stunning it brought tears to my wife. One thing we didn’t anticipate was how wonderful the rest of the staff was. We had made an error that was entirely our fault and the staff was so gracious towards us, going above and beyond to help us fix our mistake. Tiffany is absolutely the BEST offering us customer service that was beyond excellent. Jordan too was so helpful and kind. We cannot say enough good things about this company and the service they offer- truly amazing and worth every penny!
The cameras on the helicopter malfunctioned so no videos of our flight . The pilot needs to talk more about what we were seeing,.
Was a phenomenal experience. We flew over Kilauea the day after it had erupted tor 13 hours. It was still smoking when we flew over the top of it. Our pilot (James? from Kenya was excellent. Very informative the entire trip.
Another great experience with Blue Hawaiian Helicopter’s. This was our sixth Blue Hawaiian trip but our first big island spectacular with a waterfall landing. It’s a great way to get a sense of the whole island and I always recommend first time visitors to do Blue Hawaiian early in their visit so they can get a lay of the land. This operation is incredibly buttoned up. Mahalo to the entire Blue Hawaiian team.
The helicopter tour was amazing!! Our pilot, James?? (from Kenya) was fabulous. He was extremely informative and flew us along both coasts, the desert area, rain forest area, waterfalls and the active Kilauea volcano a day after it spewed lava (but it was still smoking). We saw so much from the air we canceled our planned visit to the Volcanoes National Park the next day. It was our granddaughter's first time in a helicopter and he loved it.
Kaj, our pilot, was a wealth of information not only about the islands topography, but the history and present day sociological and economic factors. We learned so much by asking good questions! The scenery was incredible and we saw all of the variety of the big island — from volcanoes to ranches to seaside to lush, green valleys and hills — and dozens of waterfalls! Before the ride we got thorough safety instructions and lots of communication from the team. Tips: DO dress in dark colors from head to toe for the best pictures. I wore shorts and my white legs reflected in the glass (haha). DO bring cash for a generous tip. DO bring a plastic water bottle for each person. The temp in the copter is around 74 — and you’ll be glad you have a drink! DO expect some waiting as there is a careful boarding process for everyone’s safety. This is well worth the money.
Fantastic ride with Kai. It was so cool to see Kilauea steaming from its vents and the Kilauea Iki trail from the sky considering we had hiked it a couple days previous. My favorite was flying into the lush valleys and their amazing waterfalls to the north. Kai was fabulous. Highly recommend!
it was a great experience!! lots of spectacular sights. worth every penny. staff did a great job. thanks
When we arrived, we were greeted by friendly professionals and briefed on all safety rules. Our pilot, Mike, was very friendly and knew everything there is to know about the Big Island. He brought us places we wouldn’t have seen if we didn’t take this tour. I was astonished by the beauty of the valleys and waterfalls, as well as the craters and the active volcano we flew over. If you’re going to the Big Island, I highly recommend this company.
Blue Helicopters does not fail in the delivery of the product - everything is on time and extremely professional. I have done 2 of their tours and enjoyed both.
Our experience was more than we could hope for. Our pilot Ken gave us an alternative that was far better than what I originally arranged. We were able to land at a waterfall. The team was more than professional and outstanding.
Well run organization. Greg, the pilot was terrific. Very informative and caring, as well as a great pilot! I would recommend this to everyone
James, our pilot was awesome. He was so knowledgeable We went for my husband's birthday. Great experience and incredible views.
Great narration, FABULOUS PLAY LIST, and a very smooth ride. Beautiful, we got to see all the high points! Greg was a knowledgeable pilot and host!
Absolutely stunning to see so much from the air! Pilot extremely knowledgeable. Soundtrack was perfection! Would do it again!
The helicopter ride was spectacular! Viewed the volcanoes and the North Kohala coast--magnificent and stunning! Worth every penny! The pilot, James, had a wealth of knowledge about the Big Island, including its geography and history. His pilot skills were excellent as we never bounced around and he made us feel safe and secure!
prescheduled flight in feb 25. had to. pay extra for over 240 lb. had requested me and wife front seat for flight. only to be put in back seat middle finally got to right side rear wife in middle. i came to take pixs and there was red juice in the calders wife had limited views. pilot would recircle around to show what the others had already seen. got a lot of after views and ocean waves. wife saw heads and backs. complained. refunded $700 outa $1900 i had paid. i did see and active volcano though not a squirter that happened that night get a private flight. its bucks but wouldvhave been worth it
Incredible views. In movies and TV shows you see Hawaii and think it's beautiful, but when you see it in person from a helicopter, it becomes an emotional experience. This place is special, and now I understand why it's sacred to those that live here. It's hard to put into words. This was an absolutely amazing tour.
We arrive & we were told that it is canceled due to rain. Ask us to reschedule but we were leaving the next day
The views are spectacular! The beauty is breathtaking and Kilauea was erupting which was an added bonus. The staff was very friendly & helpful. Kai was our pilot & we were thrilled with the adventure!
The experience was super awesome and I suggest Paying the extra for the front seats and buy the video!
We flew with Dale today and he was absolutely amazing! Very informative, attentive, and entertaining. Could not have asked for a better experience for our first time on the big island. I would highly recommend this tour to antome who wants see what Hawaii is all about!
One of the best experiences ever! It is the only way to see the whole island in a way that few people can. The sightseeing is spectacular and you will come away with a big smile on your face. Best part was to see the volcano up close as well as the cliffs and valleys!
We booked the tour mainly to see the Kilauea Volcano, as did the other four passengers booked on our flight. Before taking off, our pilot James informed us that we won’t be able to reach the volcano, due to strong winds: not his fault, obviously. He offered alternative routes and he also offered a full refund, if we choose not to fly. All of us took the full refund. The desk person mentioned some other flights we might want to take, but exerted no pressure. We took the refund and that was that. What a class company! That’s how it should work and so rarely does. Kudos to the honesty and their treatment of their customers. It is now a company I fully trust. Thank you! I am sold. I will surely be back some day.
Wife and I did the waterfall/valley/volcano tour and it was amazing! Our pilot Kai was very knowledgeable and was quick to point things out to us (like whales in the ocean). We also had the lucky experience to view Kilaeau erupting while we were in flight. Would highly recommend.
