The trip was seamless. The contact sent out specific instructions that made it easy to follow for meet up. The experience was amazing! Once in a lifetime and we got to see mantas up so close they could touch you. Our guides Vince, Jacob, and Phoenix were really helpful and made sure the experience was enjoyable and helped everyone on board. Would recommend for anyone visiting!

This trip was awesome. Jacob, Vince and Bruno - best team ever!!!! Guys took care of us all the time during the trip. It was nice and exciting. Thank you so much and see U soon
A fabulous experience. Capt. Jacob and crew took great care of us. Saw many manta rays and fish and the time went by quickly. Highly recommend!
Good experience. The water is a little choppy but nothing you can do about that. The manta rays were massive in size. It was beautiful to watch their dance. We had two big Monte raise. It stayed in our area. We also had a 6 foot shark cruise through the area briefly. It was a fun experience.
I was unsatisfied with this tour for several reasons. 1. I was seasick the entire time in the water and on the return trip. Nowhere in the details did it have any warning about seasickness or taking Dramamine as a precaution. If it did, I would have done so. 2. We only saw two manta rays the entire time out on the water. It didn't justify the steep price we paid for the tour. 3. The tour had packed too many folks, making the experience uncomfortable. People kept bumping into me the whole time on the water, and throwing up to the left and right of me. The experience would have been more enjoyable if they hadn't crammed so many people in the water. 4. This isn't the tour's fault, but viator listed this as a tour withoit snorkeling, we had to pay extra to be able to snorkel, so just a heads up if you're making this booking you'll have to pay more to snorkel.
It was a unique experience that I would undoubtedly repeat, I loved it there are impressive animals all beautiful if you want to have a unique experience I recommend this tour 😍
Great time! Jacob, Vincent, and Phoenix were amazing, friendly, helpful, and informative. They were casual and easy going while careful with safety.
the experence was fabulous and my whole family emjoyed it
I went for the manta ray show, and they were awesome! My kids enjoyed them doing backflips and getting so close to my theirs faces. I recommend it to everyone!
Once in a lifetime experience! Jacob, Phoenix, and Vince took wonderful care of us and got us in the middle of all the action. This is a must do in Kona!
The whole experience from the beginning till the end was the best thing we’ve done in Hawaii! The stars, the animals, the magic, everything! Crew was amazing and very helpful. Mantas are just such graceful and amazing creatures. MUST DO!!!
Wonderful crew, easy to communicate with, focused on safety. During the cruise they shared interesting information about the region and the manta rays. Very helpful crew. I really honestly recommend the company
What’s Amazing Experience🥰🌺🙏
Hands down a 10/10 experience with Hang Loose Boat Tours! The boat ride out was smooth, the safety briefing put everyone at ease, and the manta ray encounter itself was downright magical. We had several massive rays putting on a show right beneath us the entire time. The crew was super attentive, friendly, and made sure everyone was comfortable in the water. Don't think twice—book this tour!
The crew was great and friendly, but unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing. The group of approximately 40 people was simply too large for the number of crews and the available space in the water. It felt overcrowded, with people constantly bumping into or kicking one another because everyone was packed so closely together. There simply wasn’t enough room for everyone to comfortably enjoy the experience. You’re holding on for 1 hour. The crew members were very young, and while they were pleasant, I felt more experienced guides were needed. You need people who know how to navigate to the best viewing spots for manta rays and who can confidently assist guests, especially those who may need extra help in the water. We noticed that other companies had much smaller groups in the water, and I think this makes a HUGE difference. Group size is something future customers should seriously consider when booking this experience. To be fair, the company cannot control how many manta rays show up. Unfortunately, we only saw two manta rays, and they were quite far away. It was nothing like the amazing experience we had heard so much about. However, having experienced guides who know the area and can position the group in better viewing locations could make a significant difference. Overall, I wish the group had been smaller and the guides more experienced. This experience has so much potential, but the overcrowding really took away from what should have been a memorable encounter.
To large of a group size, only saw one manta ray and believe because of the large disruptive group it tainted the experience. Other groups there had groups of 10-20 ours had probably 30 or more. One of the boards lights didn’t work as well.
This is the kind of tour that could go either way - horrible or incredible. Unfortunately, my experience barely earned the one star and that star is just for the boat crew members (who were fantastic). During my vacation on Big Island, several tourists mentioned the manta ray tour was a must-do. Being so close to these gentile giants was supposed to be a life-changing moment. Even the tour guide hyped it up by saying they may come within inches of your face as you lay flat out on the water waiting for them to grace their presence as they glide by feeding on plankton. Well, ultimately Mother Nature determines whether the manta rays will come or not. To see the manta rays, you spend about an hour holding onto a board with one hand, holding a worthless rented Go-Pro with the other, getting kicked by the person next to you who has to be yakking loudly in Japanese the entire time through her snorkel. You’ll eventually freeze your butt off because you're stationary and didn’t think you’d need to wear a full wet suit in Hawaiian waters. I eventually saw a few, small mantas, but they were too far away to even capture with the Go Pro. The $40 Go-Pro I rented on the boat captured nothing but empty dark water and the human legs sloshing around me. On top of that, the directions to the meeting point were awful. It would be much more helpful to direct people to the building with the bright yellow lights located next to the large white ice machine, and not to some deli next to a brown building you can’t make out because it’s dark. It was a disappointing, terrible waste of money… a risk you have to decide is worth taking for the slim chance you might get close and personal with a manta ray.
Fantastic captain/crew. Very customer oriented, and making sure everyone had what they needed/wanted. Only got see a few but still an experience of a lifetime!
Extremely disappointing. We didn’t see any manta rays. We drove two hours each way and saw nothing. We were in the cold water, in one spot, for an hour. There were multiple people on the boat who had done this excursion before and saw dozens of manta rays. Captain said this was very rare but offered no refund or alternative. There were way too many people in the water with us. At least four other boats and our boat had over thirty people in the water. We know captains talk to each other and they had to have known there were no rays. The crew was inexperienced and unhelpful. Passed out tiny bottles of water and skipped half of my party. Said there were snacks but had to ask for them and they were buried under life vests. My sister felt unsafe in the water and wanted to go back to the boat. There were so many boats we didn’t know which was ours and couldn’t find anyone to help get her back for at least fifteen minutes. When I headed back, I went by myself and there was no one monitoring who was coming or going. I don’t think they ever did a head count. I do not recommend. I feel ripped off.
The crew was amazing. We only saw one ray, then they got shy and never returned. The crew felt bad, but there was nothing they could do.
Our family had an amazing time with this experience. The manta rays are huge and majestic. They get so close to you so it’s really a one of a kind experience. The crew is very helpful, patient and attentive. They will help you to and from the boat as needed.
Loved it so much we did it twice!! We had a blast with Captain Bryce, Caden, and Vince. Had a lot of bucket list items happen for my daughters and I.
Great tour. Saw mantas doing their Blue Angel impression and reef sharks hanging out. Bryce, Kaden and Tim took great care of us, from making sure we were all comfortable in the water to keeping us safe on the ride out and back. Would definitely book this again with Capt. Bryce.
As everyone says, it really is a must do, so much so we may do it again!!! THE CREW WAS AMAZING!!! We got a little lost (shocker, I know) and made everyone late, the Captain (Bryce, I think, lack of sleep has me hazy on names) called and guided us exactly to where we needed to be. Can't express how grateful I was for this small act of kindness!! MAHALO!!!! Boat was awesome, loved the music as we cruised across the coastline as we made our way to the Manta Rays.
I didn’t realize how great of an experience this would be until after the tour. Everything about the tour ran smoothly from check in, getting our gear, getting on the boat and the interaction with the crew. It was amazing to see the MantaRays swim within inches of your face. I would call this a buck list tour to take when on the big island. Captain Bryce liked to sneak in his dad jokes when giving instructions and his crew took very good care of us while we were in the water. I highly recommend this tour 100%!
Once-in-a-lifetime experience. This is one of those unique experiences that you can only do here.
Our guides were fantastic! However, we did not enjoy the experience because the manta ray were at least 6 feet away and the water was too cloudy to get a good view of them. Mostly we just stared at plankton swimming around. We were shoulder to shoulder next to people with our legs stretched straight out behind us resting on a pool noodle. People on either side of us were bumping into us constantly because there were so many people on this tour. It felt very impersonal and uncomfortable like we were just lining up with the promise of an amazing experience that never really happened.
amazing experience . def a do not miss!
Fun experience, definitely recommend doing this. Bryce and crew were all so helpful and walked us through each step.
Crew was great. They ensured a fun experience and ensured we saw mantarays. Bring a towel to dry off after you get out of the water.
This is considered top things to do when on the Big Island and I was able to do this unique experience. Bryce, Caden and Felix were the crew that ran the excursion. Caden was helpful and friendly making sure everyone was comfortable and assisted me back to the boat when I was done looking at the manta rays. Seeing the manta ray so up close was an experience I will never forget.
Very fun, Bryce and his crew did a good job making this experience fun and made us feel safe since we had 5 kids ages 8- 15 on the experience
Well run and organized experience. One of the coolest things we.ve ever done. Highly recommend.
OMG this was a 10/10…. The crew was awesome, we got to see so many Manta Rays, they told us about the history of Manta Rays. Water is very warm not cold at all!! Very safe to swim and see fish and Mantas!! Bring your Go Pros it’s so worth the memories…
Once in a lifetime experience. Be mentally prepared if first with snorkel gear. Worth every penny. The coastal manta rays are gentle giants of sea. Gorgeous. The hang loose boat tours crew definitely take care of you. Only suggestion would be ginger candies for seasick passengers.
Maybe saw 2 manta rays from a far distance. It was a little discouraging when we were told to specifically float with our legs up, but the guide himself was right next to us swimming with 4ft long fins. Can’t imagine why they didn’t come near…
Amazing experience with a top notch crew! The crew was friendly, helpful, and did a lot of swimming to make sure we saw mantas! The Hawai'i vibe was definitely present from the awesome music playlists to the Aloha spirit in the water! Thank you Captain Jacob, Noah, and the other amazing crew member whose name we forgot/ but he made us feel SO COMFORTABLE in the water! Mahalo!
Great experience. Jacob, Noah, and Vince were so very helpful in making sure we had everything we needed. Would do it again!
These guys were awesome! This was an amazing experience I’m not sure if they know or not but right before we got out of the water there was a pair of Eagle Rays! So so cool. Even if you’re scared of the ocean and your in Kona, this is the one opportunity you get to do something like this that you will more then likely never get the chance to. Just go for it and do it! One thing I would like is your guys playlist very good song choices :)
Jacob, Noah and Vince were incredible. Made sure all the needs were checked. Helped us get set up, back to the boat. Thank you! Would recommend any day!
Magical Experience! Easily one of my favorite things I have ever experienced. If you have the chance, you must try swimming with mantas!
This was incredible! We saw so many manta rays. These graceful creatures are such a sight to behold, still can't believe that I got to see them. This was an amazing adventure of a lifetime! The staff was fantastic, providing information regarding the majestic manta's including how these tours got started. They were extremely patient with all my questions, and I had a lot. I may be a senior, but I still am very curious. Oh, my partner and I got pretty seasick at the end but OMG, they were so kind and just helped us through it. Still, if you are going to the big island. Please do yourself a favor and book this trip! Finally, take Meclizine before you leave!
Shoes left at dock, so footwear doesn't matter. Take a towel and jacket for ride back. Take motion sickness meds. Thankful for the wetsuit top and Snorkel and mask provided. Excellent music on the boat. Warm water rinse after getting out of the water was awesome. Thank you for the sprite after my donation of my dinner to the ocean. The manta were truly magical even though the monk seal did a number on the turn out. Memories made. Thank you!
Be aware that the boat could be very rocky when at the spot where you go in. But my partner had a wonderful time and saw about 10-15 Manarays. I opted for viewing from the boat.
Ryan, Bryce and Cayden were absolutely phenomenal. We had a magical experience and would take another trip with them any time. Highly recommend
Fantastic experience it was fun and well organized!! Manta Rays were beautiful, and we got to see some sharks too (: Bryce and his team were fantastic!!
The boat trip started off very promisingly, and the crew created a really great atmosphere with music and humor. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get into the water, which meant we didn’t get to see any manta rays. We contacted them by email, but unfortunately, we haven’t received a response.
Best experience of my life! The staff was amazing, 20min to go to the spot and after it’s just WAW the manta raies come so close to u!
We were very excited to see the manta rays but unfortunately there were none. Another couple were on the tour and had gone a couple days before because they also saw none and were given another time but again saw none. They say that’s rare. It was a real bummer.
Mana and Jordan were great! What an experience! I was a little nervous at first, but felt safe and so cool to see the manta rays so close. Mana worked really hard to make it a good experience, kudos to him!
