Big Island In A Day: Volcanoes Waterfalls Sightseeing And History

We had a blast! Derek was a fabulous guide, personable and knowledgeable as we drove around the island. Lunch was tasty and snacks were well-timed during the trip. It was a warm, sunny day with some sprinkles between a few stops. As per a prior review, we took this tour early in our vacation to leave time to possibly revisit locations on our own.

The tour was wonderful. We stopped at a lot of beautiful places. Chris was very knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend this tour if you want to see the big island.

Miexia Ahloy was our guide for the day! It was rainy and cloudy but he made it fun and interesting. It was an all day excursion and he made sure we had food, drinks, snacks, lunch, raincoats, umbrellas. He shared so much of the history on the drive which is invaluable since we most likely won't visit the Islands again! It was a wonderful experience!

It was fun and informative. Got picked up outside of our vacation rental at the local store. Then we went to see different things and stops to do some shopping. The tour is super informative. Our guide Henry is wonderful. He knows so much about the island and history of the island. He makes learning history fun with stories and references to our day to to day. He really try to get people engaged and allow people to ask questions. We did our lunch in volcano national parks near the volcano. This tour helps you check off a lot on your to do list on the island, from coffee farm to national park. Would highly recommend and hope you get a guide as fun as Henry.

This was our first time visiting Hawaii, and it was truly the BEST experience! We couldn’t have asked for a better tour guide. Misha (I hope I’m spelling his name correctly!) was absolutely amazing! As a native Hawaiian, he shared so much incredible knowledge about the history and culture of Hawaii. But what made the experience even more special was how genuine, welcoming, and personable he was. As he drove us around the Big Island, he made us feel right at home. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Big Island! It introduced us to so many beautiful places that we can’t wait to return and explore even more. This experience made our first trip to Hawaii unforgettable. We had the best day! Our family enjoyed visiting all of the unique locations. Having a driver allowed all members of our family to enjoy the day fully instead of having to drive. Drew was knowledgeable and absolutely fun! He kept the travel engaging and provided a special treat at the end. This trip was beyond worth the money!

This was an great way to see and learn about so many different spots on the island. It was very comfortable and our tour guide Stefan was very knowledgeable about all things Hawaii and volcanoes. He saw that the volcanoes was erupting and changed the tour around so we could see it!

This was a very good tour, and they are not kidding when they say the entire island in a day. Our guide, Stefan, picked us up at our hotel at 6:45 am, and it was 6:30 pm when we got back! In between we made a giant counterclockwise loop of the island! We were in sunshine and rain, high altitude and sea level, and we saw so many things: black sand beaches, sea turtles, a coffee plantation, lava tubes we could walk through, waterfalls that disappeared and then re-appeared in the fog, thick jungles, sheer cliffs, Volcanos Park, and (unfortunately) some of the damage from the recent storms. Stefan did a really good job explaining how the different volcanos have influenced the different climates on the island. The van was really comfortable, and the provided lunch was very good. The tour is a bit pricey, but definitely worth it -- you would never see this much stuff all on your own, in a single day.

We are not normally the tour taking kind of people but wanted to hit every part of the island, so we gave it a shot. It was 100% worth the money our tour guide, Misha, was awesome and made the day fly by he accommodated everybody on the tour when he could. He is very knowledgeable about the history and culture of Hawaii and made everybody feel welcome and comfortable. Wasabi tours will definitely be in our future!!!

It was great we got to see little pieces of everything the island has to offer! Ian our tour guide was great and very knowledgeable and genuinely nice and very patient. Each stop is pretty quick, and it needs to be since you are out all day, so be ready to hop out see what you can and hop back in.

He kept us engaged and interested every single minute. He is an absolute wealth of knowledge about the Big Island, its history, its people, and its culture. His understanding of science, geology, medicine, folklore, politics, and modern-day affairs is truly remarkable. He is also an exceptional storyteller who has a unique gift for making everything fascinating and bringing the island to life. Kawika goes above and beyond to show you the incredible details of this island, from its unique rocks and the delicate preservation of ʻōhiʻa and other natural treasures to its history, culture, and contemporary issues. He shares so much more than the typical tour guide. Days later, I am still talking with my family back home about all the fascinating things he taught us! Beyond his extraordinary knowledge, Kawika is kind, professional, thoughtful, and genuinely hospitable. He constantly made sure everyone was comfortable, well-fed, hydrated, and had opportunities for bathroom breaks. The Sprinter van was comfortable and kept at a pleasant temperature, and he was an exceptionally careful and conscientious driver throughout the entire day. I honestly cannot express how fortunate we were to have Kawika as our guide. He made a 12-hour tour fly by and turned it into an unforgettable experience for my son and me. The entire van was raving about him! And, with all due respect to the owners, Kawika should practically own the place! 😂 He is that exceptional. Derek & Dreu arrived on time and safely drove us to all of the sites on our schedule. We started at the Black Sands Beach and saw the green sea turtles in the water and sunning on the beach. We went to Volcanoes National Park and saw the smoldering crater, we walked through the lava tube and felt the heat from the steam vents. We visited Rainbow Falls and had the opportunity to hike to the top of the falls. They offered us a snack in the afternoon. It was interesting to hear about Derek's surfing experiences. Dreu kept us laughing all day with his catchphrases and costume changes. We learned a lot about the island and the culture of Hawaii. It was a great day. I'd highly recommend Wasabi Tours.

Great history teller and jokes too. He timed the last stop perfectly so we watched the sunset at a sacred Hawaiian site with him blowing a conch. It was beautiful.

My husband and I had the opportunity to do this tour on the big island and it was EXCELLENT, OUTSTANDING, INCREDIBLE, AMAZING, SUPERB, and our DRIVER/GUIDE was DEREK. He was KNOWLEDGEABLE, ENTERTAINING, FRIENDLY, and provided great historical information. While this tour may be a bit pricey, you see MANY OF THE SIGHTS of the big island. THIS WILL NOT DISAPPOINT!!! Just do it! You will love it!

What a wonderful tour of the Island!! The vehicle we rode in was clean and comfortable which made the trip even more enjoyable. There were plenty of opportunities to use restrooms along the way and we were provided with a meal and snacks and water. I’m sure we had one of the best tour guides. His name is Kona Chris, and he is funny, smart, and a safe driver. It was a 12 hour tour, and he kept us all entertained the whole trip. You rock, Kona Chris!!

This was an amazing tour! My tour guide Ian, was phenomenal. From the moment I was picked up, the tour was an unforgettable experience. I loved the black sand beach and seeing green sea turtles made it that much more enjoyable. Walking through the lava tube was an experience to remember! We had lunch at the site of the active volcano! To sit and eat lunch while watching the smoke from the volcano in the distance, was something I didn’t expect but am thankful that it happened. The two waterfalls we visited were absolutely stunning. I’m a big nature love and this tour delivered! God truly blessed Hawaii with beauty, calm and serenity. Exactly what I needed.

We were picked up at our hotel by our guide, Derek, and he was excellent! Very knowledgeable and a great driver. It was an almost 12 hr day but we went around the entire island. We saw volcanoes, waterfalls, all the towns and more. Heard all the folklore and all the info about the island. Highly recommend this trip and Derek!!

This is the perfect way to see the Big Island in a day. While nothing can capture the diversity and wonder of the island in only a day, this tour was pretty close! Will was an amazing guide and a walking encyclopedia of everything.

The van arrived as scheduled at our resort. Our guide Jason was very personable and knowledgeable about geography and Hawaiian culture. He made every stop fun.

It was a long but great tour that was jam packed. We stopped at a coffee farm, a macadamia farm, black sand beach, and on to Volcano National Park. We weren't lucky enough to see lava, only steam, but there were eruptions almost every evening that week. Then we went to several falls on the way back. Our guide was Kona Chris and he kept us entertained all day with his information about the history and culture (and lots of jokes). They provided a good lunch and snacks and drinks. They also had a gluten free lunch for my husband. Had a great experience and then home to fall in bed!

As a former tour director, I know a great tour. And Henry’s tour of the Big Island was great. The planning was excellent - small local businesses for coffee, macadamia nuts and more. Henry added so much color as our driver - Hawaiian history, geology, volcanoes, legends and more. And he even included a few extra stops on request - the worlds cutest fruit stand, and a photo op for an amazing sunset. Worth every penny and more! The very best way to see it all on Hawaii.

Was a wonderful way to see highlights of this beautiful island with such unusual landscapes, waterfalls, rain forests and the summit of Kilauea, an active volcano. Our guide, Dreu Basaldua was generous with his insights about local and State history, delivered in an energetic and memorable way, making the day go by feeling truly entertained and very well-cared for. Patient, gentle and funny, he went to great lengths to keep our group engaged. A very comfortable experience. A terrific tour.

We enjoyed our 12 hour tour around the island and the tour guide Jason was a wealth of information. This is a great way to get to see all the major sights including water falls, lookouts, Kilauea volcano, black sand beach, coffee grower, macadamia nut farm and more. Lunch, snacks and drinks were provided which was much appreciated!

I believe they scammed my money by not providing the tour pick up at all. I had fever from their last star gazing trip and they were late in my pick up and drop off. So I only had 4 hours of sleep, unable to attend the waterfall trip next day as they didn't aware us about the low temperature so I've got fever. As I was requesting for refund they blocked my number and didn't show up at my hotel to pick me up for the trip. Whilst they had my WhatsApp and other phone number they just did not use these approaches to get in touch with me. It was an awful experience with such unethical business runners. Please feel free to confront this. I've got all the evidences you need to proof what I said it definitely true.

Great stops but a long day of driving. Brett was our guide, he did an excellent job. Knowledgeable and pleasant. Make sure he breaks out his ukulele at lunch, quite a talented musician.

Wonderful way to ensure a complete “Big Island Experience!” If at all possible, try to arrange for “Henry” to be your guide. He was knowledgeable, passionate and authentic.

Must do! Dreu was our driver and tour guide and he was very funny and knowledgeable. The best thing about him is how much he respects the Hawaiian culture. It really is a 12 hour day and he kept us laughing and engaged the whole time. Definitely recommended!

Legitimately an 11/12 hour excursion. So get some good rest beforehand. It’s mostly spent in the van, but you are fully at the mercy of Hawaii’s weather, which can vary at any moment. Thankfully, our voyage was so lovely and Drew made the entire trip enjoyable. We were laughing the entire time. You get a nice mix of history, puns and jokes, and remarkable sights. They've got everything taken care of for you: jackets, umbrellas, snacks, lunch, drinks. It's well worth what we spent for the entire excursion.

Wow what an incredible experience! I would highly recommend committing to this tour to check off seeing a lot of sites around the island. I would recommend this be an adult only excursion as it can be a very long day but very worth it in my opinion. Our guide Kawika was extremely knowledgeable, kind and cared for our needs throughout the day. I’m so happy we got a local to take us on this tour to give us recommendations, histories of the island and legends of native peoples!

Wow! Got SO much insight into the Big Island from tour guides Kawika, Derrick, and Dreu . What one didn’t mention, the other tour guide filled in. They knew so much and each added their personality to keep us focused for the two day tour. We called Kawika the “professor” because of all the nature facts he added in a very nonchalant way. Derrick told stories of the island that he has personally discovered. And Dreu…. Well, everyone should be so lucky to experience Dreu’s various hats and outfits that coordinated with the sites. ( Not that he announces the wardrobe changes:….they appear as you re- board the shuttle to your next destination.) BOOK THESE FOLKS - you will not be disappointed!

This is an all day exprerience and well worth every penny. Our guide, Brett, was very knowledgeable and also very personable. The picnic lunch was very good.

Kawika was an incredible guide and we had such a fantastic time! We were able to see some lava flow and learn a lot about the island the entire ride. It was great hearing some legends during the longer portions of the ride.

Loved the lava tube, volcano, national park, and all the beautiful views and of course, the Kona coffee! ☕️🌋. This experience was amazing, the tour covers everything you would want to see on Hawai’i. We had a small group of 11 people so didn’t ever feel crowded. Our guide Kona Chris was amazing he was knowledgable, funny and made sure that everyone was happy and enjoying their tour. The lunch provide was very good and there was plenty of snacks include. This is a great tour for anyone that wants to see as much of Hawai’i as possible in one day.
