3-hour Honolulu Bottom Fishing Adventure For Beginners

Great time. On the fish all day. Saw turtles, dolphins and sharks! Would highly recommend. Did the 3 hour tour.

While it was fun to try deep sea fishing for the first time here in Hawaii, this was probably my least favorite activity we did on our trip. As anyone who fishes would know, you don't always catch anything when you go out. That was the case for most of us on our boat. Obviously it would have been more fun if we caught something. The staff were really helpful with preparing rods and fixing them if you broke the line, though. Just don't go into thinking you will be guaranteed to catch something.

Every time fish stopped coming up we moved spots. They know their stuff . It was amazing. Highly recommend

I’m a surfer and a diver, I don’t get a chance to really do much fishing. This was a perfect fishing charter for someone like me. Great crew, super helpful, captain was solid and we went to a few different spots. I caught a couple cool fish.

The guides were really knowledgeable about the fish in the area and were really helpful in terms of taking fish off the hooks, helping you handle the fish, and teaching you about the fish. Unfortunately my husband and I got pretty seasick while on the boat, which we weren’t expecting but they had some ginger chews on the boat that helped with the nausea a ton. Overall, I was really happy with the experience and if I did it again I’d pregame with some Dramamine hahaha!!

It is very family friendly, lots of fun for people from 9 years old to 70 years old! Would totally schedule another trip for the family.

Honestly, it was an incredible experience. The guides were perfect—taking us to different spots where we could see so many beautiful fish. Their knowledge was impressive, making the trip even more enjoyable. It’s one thing to go fishing, but having guides who teach you how to fish and share their insights takes it to a whole new level. Truly, it was a fantastic experience!

Penalty tackle. Freshwater reels, just very poor quality for a charter operation. Crew was friendly and helpful. Very kind. Ownership needs to properly equip the vessel.

We had a great experience on the fishing tour! Communication was smooth from the beginning, and the crew was very welcoming. Check-in was easy, and the boat never felt crowded. Each group had plenty of space to fish comfortably, which made the experience relaxed and enjoyable. The crew gave helpful instructions and provided plenty of personal attention throughout the trip. As a beginner, I was especially grateful for their guidance—and I got lucky with three fish! We took pictures and released all three right afterward. Most of the other groups also caught multiple fish, so there was plenty of action throughout the trip. There was also an option to keep eligible fish. If participants chose to keep their catch, the crew would process it, wrap it, and keep it chilled for them to claim at the end of the tour. It was nice to have the choice depending on what each group preferred. A couple of helpful tips for future guests: make sure adults purchase their fishing license in advance. The requirement and the link are provided on the tour booking page, so it’s easy to take care of ahead of time. The water was quite smooth during our trip, although several passengers still experienced motion sickness. The crew had ginger candies available, which was a thoughtful touch and seemed to help. Overall, a fun, well-organized trip with a great crew. I’d definitely recommend it, especially for beginners!

3 hr bottom fishing, but when time taken out for dock instructions, drive time to reef, bait pass out, and moving spots, only about 1.5 hours of actual fishing.

It was an amazing experience! Never planned on fishing in Hawaii but my wife booked a trip for our son's senior trip. Crew and Captain were amazing and helpful! Moved a couple different spots if fishing slowed!, i think everybody on the boat was able to catch something

We had an incredible experience. We saw flying fish, 4ft shark, and turtles. We fished in 40 ft waters and could see the ocean floor. We each caught fish and do this tour every time we visit.

I booked this for my daughter (7) and my husband. They had a blast, immediately talking about a second booking when they returned! They loved the friendliness of the crew, their knowledge as they explained each catch, and their helpfulness; they both caught fish, and even saw a shark swimming away with half of someone’s catch! We will be booking again before we leave!

Rickety, dilapidated boat to the smell of gasoline and felt like it was going to tip over a times. Terrible.

“Son’s First Fishing Win!” ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely Incredible Experience – Perfect for Families and First-Time Fishermen! This was hands down one of the best experiences my son and I have ever had together. It was my 8-year-old son’s first bottom fishing trip and, amazingly, it was also the first time I had ever caught a fish myself! From the moment we stepped on board, the crew made us feel welcome. They were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely passionate about what they do. My son had a million questions, and they never once seemed bothered. Instead, they took the time to teach him, encourage him, and help him understand everything about fishing. As complete beginners, we were hoping to learn, and the crew went above and beyond. They showed us how to bait the hooks with squid, cast our lines properly, recognize bites, and shared helpful tips throughout the trip. We have been trying to fish since last summer and had never caught anything, so finally experiencing success was incredibly exciting. The weather was beautiful, the ocean views were breathtaking, and the captain was fantastic. He clearly knew exactly where the fish were. Whenever things slowed down, he quickly moved us to a better spot, keeping the action going and making sure everyone had the best chance to catch fish. The highlight of the day was when my son caught a triggerfish. His excitement was absolutely priceless. The crew even gave him a fish to keep at the end of the trip, and he proudly carried it around like a trophy, showing everyone he could. Seeing the joy and confidence on his face made the entire experience unforgettable. This wasn’t just a fishing trip—it was an adventure, a learning experience, and a memory that my son and I will cherish forever. This 3-hour fishing charter was absolutely incredible! I went out with my dad, and it turned out to be the perfect bonding experience. From the moment we left the dock, the crew looked after us, guiding us to some phenomenal spots where the fish were constantly biting. We both caught a ton of fish, which kept the energy high and the excitement going the entire trip. On top of the action, the coastal views and beautiful sights along the way were stunning. If you want a memorable, well-run trip that delivers on both action and scenery, this is it. Five stars all the way!

This was a fun affordable activity and although we did not catch a ton of fish, the ones we did were very beautiful and fun. The captain and the mates all were very nice and helpful. Also, it’s a beautiful boat ride.

Great trip. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a hard time getting to Oahu due to flight cancellations and had a horrible tour yesterday at the Pearl Harbor thanks to the guide; however, this trip is turning our dream trip sunny again. My husband and I really enjoyed ourselves.

Wonderful captain and crew. We fished away from all the other charters and caught beautiful reef fish. This was my 4th time fishing with Ohana Fun Fishing and I'll be back again!!!

The captain and first mate were great; however I do not think they were experts at locating fish. Two fish total with 15 people for three hours. We went to deep water when it was windy and then kept moving locations. I was very disappointed.

We both caught fish and we saw 4 sharks it was a great experience and we could bring our own alcohol to drink and snacks which was nice. Plus the bathroom on board was convenient to have since it was a 3 hour excursion.

Captain failed to find fish. Mate was good, but started with a bit of an attitude.Did mellow out. Bring water.

Good fishing experience, caught lots of Trigger fish of different species, I never knew there are so many variations. The crew were kind and patient. I could've fished another 3hrs.

Went in this trip with my 9 year old who loves to fish but has never been fishing on a boat in the ocean. Want to take him deep sea fishing soon and this was a great quick trip to make sure he could handle the movement of the boat in the ocean. Don’t catch a ton of fish (caught 2) , but crew was amazing! Very helpful! Went to a couple of different spot. Not a lot of fish at the 1st spot but everyone was catching at the 2nd. As a bonus, saw 2 sea turtles in the way out and a whale while out which was incredible!

This was a great experience. I did this with my 8 year old daughter and she loved it. Large boat with plenty of fishing gear on board. The deckhand was knowledgeable and did a fantastic job rejigging gear when losing hooks and/or sinkers (she is very fast and efficient). The captain drives the boat out to see in roughly 60ft deep water without anchoring. The only negatives I have is that they do not use a fish finder to locate fish increasing the chances of catching more and that not anchoring sometimes causes lines to run under the boat. We caught 2 small fish each. We had a fun day (3 hours). Would still recommend so get into it and enjoy catching some fish in paradise!

Went out with my buddy’s had an awesome time we all caught 3-4 fish so it was definitely worth it! Awesome experience, the crew was amazing and very helpful!
