Hotel La Croix

Sadly, the typical case: it looks much nicer in the photos. The hotel room unfortunately smelled bad because of the air conditioning, and the bathtub was quite dirty. A lot of things need renovating. Breakfast was good, and the staff were friendly and helpful, but the hotel is really overdue for a renovation. It seems to me they’re trying to put it off for as long as possible (it’s been at least 10 years). The gym is just one adjustable bench, a few dumbbells and 4-5 cardio machines, so I wouldn’t call it a gym the way it’s advertised.

There are much better places to stay than this hotel. The hotel room was very old and had a musty smell as soon as we walked in. The bathtub plug was broken, there was hair on the shower curtain left behind by previous guests, and the bedsheets had a noticeable stain. Overall, we were dissatisfied with the cleanliness and condition of the room. Based on the numerous positive reviews, I wonder if there are different room tiers, with some rooms renovated and others not. This is just speculation, but I find it hard to understand the number of positive room reviews given the condition of ours. We did have a positive experience with the pool bartender. He was AWESOME, and this hotel is lucky to have him. Unfortunately, even the pool area had cleanliness issues. There was a Band-Aid stuck to the wall, and something gross touched my foot when I was in the pool... We were also disappointed that we couldn't order food to the pool as advertised. For location, the hotel was alright. The beach wasn’t too far away, but there are definitely other hotels that are much closer to both the beach and shopping. Toward the end of our trip, we stayed at Queen Kapiolani Hotel, and the difference was noticeable. It was much more conveniently located, with the beach and shopping within a shorter walking distance. We had a much better experience there.

I would stay again, but I do hope they fix a few things before then. Everyone is super friendly and helpful, but not everyone is on the same page. For instance, one staff member might do one thing when checking out beach equipment while someone else will do something completely different. The same thing with check-in. These are not deal breakers, but the experience for one family is going to be totally different from another family because something wasn't explained thoroughly or offered during check-in because there are not on the same page. The rooms are decent. They are clean and spacious, but there is only one mirror, which is in the RR, there should also be one in the common area to expedite grooming. They bring fresh towels and replenish toiletries daily, but it would be nice if they also vacuumed daily, due to sand from the beach. They also offered free daily activities, but we were unaware because there were no visible signs or communication about it. They do have pools, sauna, gym, dining area (open for breakfast) and a convenience store attached, which was all lovely. I think with all staff aligned and a few changes in the rooms, this place could be suuuuuper amazing.

The bedrooms are a fantastic, comfortable size with plenty of space to relax—much bigger than what you usually find at this price point. The pressure of the shower, amazing! A huge standout was the incredible service. The staff at both the pool and the breakfast restaurant were exceptionally nice, attentive, and welcoming every single day. The location it’s incredibly convenient and well-located for getting around, 7 min walk to the beach.
