Great way to visit so many wineries. Nice bikes with basket and lock if needed. Assistance with planning our route was very helpful.

Itinerary
We'll fit your bike and helmet, give you a route map and point you to the wineries that are open that day. The trails are flat and easy, and most of the riding is on purpose-built cycle trails. Visit as many or as few cellar doors as you like and stay as long as you like. Most people take four to six hours.
Stop for lunch at a winery along the way (own expense), or bring a picnic.
Buy a few bottles? We'll collect them from the winery and have them ready for you at the end of the day. If you get a flat tyre or need a hand, we're a phone call away.
Return your bike to the Roys Hill Shop by 5pm to finish your day.

Fabulous bike rental company in the middle of Hawke’s Bay wine region. Great bikes which were easy to ride on the flat bike paths. Fabulous scenery and close to lots of wineries.
Seamless and easy way of exploring the local wineries . Instructions and advice from them was excellent and highly recommend if you are looking for self guided tour.
Vineyards lovely. Met some very nice knowledgeable people. Easy flat bike ride. Only downside was several Vineyards closed.
We had a great day out with On Yer Bikes - Phil's pre day comms were so helpful and thorough - our bikes for our group of 8 were ready when arrived and was super easy to get sorted - the trouser clips were an added bonus! We had a prefect day navigating the wineries and really liked the bike paths - Phil collected the wine we purchased so we didn't have to carry this. Would definitely return to On Yer Bikes for future trips.
If you like cycling and wine, this is a great experience for you. Phil was great to work with and the wineries on the route are wonderful. The cycling is flat and relatively easy...and ebikes are a blast in themselves. We particularly appreciated Onyerbikes service to pick up the wine that you bought and bring it back to your vehicle. Riding was mostly on a trail on the side of the road and very safe. Traffic was respectful. If like me you are a wine fan, I highly recommend checking out the wineries on the route ahead of time. Our favorite cellar was Radburnd but that was because we had setup a special tasting ahead of time. There are some very good wineries here and this is an absolutely fabulous way to taste their wines. So get On yer Bikes and get to it!
Just had a great day exploring the Hawkes Bay wineries. The bikes were in excellent condition and really easy to ride. There are 2 suggested routes - 12 km or 25km. Having not cycled for a long time we opted for the shorter & did a few detours too. The trails are well maintained & nice and flat. Most of the wineries have some sort of food - either a cheese platter or something more formal if you’d prefer. You just need to choose your route depending on what you fancy. We didn’t book in advance for either the bikes or the wineries but I’m told it can be necessary at busier times. So basically it was a lovely day out enjoying the sunshine with good food & wine.
The bikes were in good working order and we were sent off with a map and suggestions on how to proceed. It was an easy ride on flat terrain. The wineries were beautiful and the staff were very informative and friendly!
Phil was really accommodating and flexible with organising a reasonably large group. He made everything easy for a fun day out. Everything was well organised and seamless. It was an absolutely perfect day and I highly reccommend booking with On Yer Bike, to experience some Hawkes Bay’s best wine and food options. Biking provides the perfect balance to the winery visits. Thank you for looking after us!
We got great advice from on yer bike about the route and we cycled to 4 wineries - Ash Ridge, Sileni, Paritua and Oak Estate. It was a Thursday and the wineries were not busy so we enjoyed chatting to the knowledgeable winery staff during our tastings. Lovely wines and we had to buy a few to enjoy after the trip. The cycling is flat so easy on a non-electric bike.
Friendly owner, good wines, easy ride. Enjoyable day. It did not take us as long as suggested in the add. 4 hours, including an excellent lunch at one of the wineries.
Very helpfull, the owner pointed us to the directions of several winery with a included map, on which he added more information. Had a good talk with him and the trip was definetly worth it. Would come back again simply for a bike ride across the beautifull landscape!
The staff was amazing and very helpful. There was no stress at all, just overall a really good time. Shout out to Trevor at Paritua Winery and Dom at Sileni Winery. They were super friendly and had lots of information about their wines - definitiely made our visit more enjoyable. The wine-tasting prices at each vineyard were also great value. I would recommend this to anyone and would defintiely go again!
Amazing way to explore hawkes bay wineries, great flat route to bike and On Yer Bike staff were very helpful. Have done this tour twice now and loved it both times!
Our overall experience was really amazing! Phil was really friendly and accommodating. He gave clear instructions and suggested good wineries to visit. My husband and I got the tandem bike and it was a fun ride.
Our overall experience was awesome! Phil was really helpful and friendly. My husband and I did the tandem bike and it was such a fun ride for us. Phil was helpful with directions and suggestions on where to go. 11/10 would recommend 😊
All of the wineries were great on our approximate 10 km ride. Really enjoyed the reds at Paritua poured by Trevor. I think we could have stayed there all afternoon, but we peddled on. Great pizza at the Abby Estate and to change up the drinks to a cocktail or beer. Worth stopping in at the Oak Estate and ordering anything with their freshly made bread. All of our wine we bought was picked up by Phil and ready for us when we returned. A nice way to spend the day.
First time on a tandem and so much fun. Easy to follow route around the various vineyards in the Bridge Pa area with wine tasting at 4 of the cave and included lunch at Sileni. We went slowly as it was very warm and took about 5 hours. Most of the route is on dirt and gravel tracks except for short sections on the road where traffic does wizz passed. Booking and bike pick up was easy and our wine purchases were there ready for us when we returned our tandems. A great way to do wine tasting!
Great experience, and an intimate way to enjoy wine tasting without the pressure of time constraints.
Was a really fun group activity, the step-through standard bikes were extremely comfortable, and easy to ride. Helpful directions and explanations before we left. Would recommend and do the other route next trip!
When the sun shines, there is no place like the Hawkes Bay wineries! We had a stunner of a day and the wines to match it. Great going a little off piste and the padded bike seats made a lot of sense when we hit the gravelly tracks. Amazing lunch, tasty vino and even a celebrity appearance and chat as Oz Clarke popped into one of the vineyards for a tasting too.
The Ride around Hawks Bay was amazing, the views were amazing and the wineries we visit were a just as amazing. On yer bike was easy to deal with. We made a booking on there website the day before, which was easy to use. Phil was great with his knowledge of the area and the best way to get around to all the wineries. The bikes were in good condition and easy to ride (maybe get an e-bike next time bit sore the next day) The day was great and we really enjoyed ourselves
Super easy ride, the land is flat across the entire journey. The wineries were good, a nice selection of wines and a great way to spend a day.
We hired the tandems for 2 x couples. We had a blast and the host of On Yer Bike was very helpful and even picked up the wines we purchased so that we didn't have to carry them back on the bikes. The two wineries we visited were Oak Wineries and Selini both very helpful and generous with wine tasting. The platter at Ok was magnificent and they also took care of one of our party who is celiac. Allow plenty of time if you want to do all the wineries as it is so easy to sit and take in the views whilst tasting to realise you have to cycle back quickly.
A wonderful day out with my (adult) children. Excellent communication. Easy enough cycling. Straightforward navigation. Lunch at Unison was very tasty. Happily recommend this activity to one and all.
Great, helpful, friendly service from the desk. Nice, reliable bikes. Made the overall experience of the wine tasting tour very enjoyable.
Tour guide couldn't have been more helpful, helping us plan a route, collecting wine we purchased from the different vineyards for us to pick up at the end of the day and even offering us a lift back to our accommodation (since it was the end of the day and on his way!). Bikes were good, and all the vineyards are within a short bike ride away making the tour highly accessible. Only feedback would be to invest in bike mud guards, as it rained briefly creating a lot of mud which ended up on our backs curtesy of the back tyres =D
This was the second time I did this tour as a way to celebrate a joint birthday. I was worried it would not live up to my expectations from last time, but I can confirm it definitely did. First time I went I did the Gimblett route and it was rushed but we saw a lot of wineries and had a lot of fun. This time we did the Bridge Pa route and decided to take our time with it and see less wineries. One piece of feedback I would give is that it would have been nice if we had been told about the short cut on the Bridge Pa route earlier, as we might have planned to go to Sileni first after Ash Ridge. Cycling was easy for someone who is not great on bikes (I can confirm). We will be back! Thanks so much for the amazing weekend!
This is the third time we’ve hired the bikes in five years. We always have an absolute blast and take many bottles of wine home🥂🍾
We booked last minute for 6 people including an 8 year old and we were accommodated perfectly. Bikes were comfortable and easy to ride, good bike for our young one and was able to keep up. We were provided a map and good advice where to have lunch etc. Wine we bought was collected and waiting for us when we dropped our bikes back. Overall great family day out.
Great day out! All the wineries were excellent and was handy that all the wine is picked up for you. Would absolutely recommend!
Really enjoyable day out. Great briefing at the start of the tour, with lots of options on where we could go. Good information about how long each winery was from each other. Being able to buy wines and leave them at the winery for On Yer Bike to collect for us was great. Would definitely recommend!
Professional and accommodating service, helpful advice and good bikes made this a fun experience. Easy to book and efficient collection service. Recommended for a fun day out
What a fantastic experience, Phil was so helpful with explaining our route, each Winery was lovely and perfect for summer. Distances between each spot were just right, we can't recommend it highly enough.
We would definitely recommend On Yer Bike for anyone keen to explore some of the wineries around Hastings! Very easy to arrange and easy to find, located just next to Ash Ridge winery. The bikes were clearly used, but we had absolutely no issues with their function, and were available swiftly on arrival in multiple sizes. There are 2 route options from their depot, and these were clearly explained using their map, which is provided. We chose the Bridge Pa triangle route, which included 5 vineyards and a cycle through the vineyards themselves. There are no tastings included in the package (we didn’t expect this!), which we felt allowed us to be a bit more relaxed and spend time in the vineyards as opposed to rushing to get to the next one. They also offered a free collection service for all the wines purchased to save us carrying them around in the basket, which made things much easier! On our return to the depot our wine was waiting for us, and they were very helpful in arranging some transport back to our accommodation. An enjoyable day all round!
Great fun and super easy to ride on the flat trails between the wineries. The wineries along the way were all quite different, so gave a good mix of places to visit. We bought wine at all of them and the bike place comes around to collect them so they don't rattle down the road in your bike. Definitely a fun day out and minimal fitness required. Would be even easier on e-bikes but was so flat its probably not worth the extra cost.
We had a good day riding our bikes around the Hawkes Bay wineries. Good bikes with baskets for personal things. All the cycle paths are off road and therefore safe and hassle free. I would recommend the longest offered time frame as we had to rush at the end. It was also very nice to have the bought wine picked up at the wineries, so we didn't have to drive them around. I highly recommend taking an e-bike as it gets harder riding your bike after the second winery ;-)
Had a great time cycling solo to Clifton and the Wineries. Great views along the way, Modern bike that functioned very well. Good route that is flat all the way finished off with wine tasting at the end! Highly recommend this for an entertaining day out.
The company had great customer service, and helpful advice on the best way to use our time. They provided a map, and picked up anything we purchased along the way. We ended up visiting 5 wineries in ~4 hours. Good quality bikes, great wineries, and food along the way. Overall not the most beautiful bike route, but the wineries at the end of the route are beautiful!! Ngatarawa and Te Awa were our favorites for their chill vibes and beauty. The tastings were all very reasonably priced, if they charged at all.
We booked as a group of 9 people. We had electric bikes & normal bikes. We had so much fun. Im not a big bike riding person but I managed to bike the whole way. We had a great lunch at one of the wineries & lots of tastings at the others. It really was a great day, the body was not even sore the next day! They also pick up all your purchases to give to you at the end of the day to take home. Awesome!
Today, we rented 2 bikes for a self guided winery tour of the Bridge Pa area. Not knowing how long we would take before tasting (and biking) became a blur (and unsafe), we paid for 3 hrs = $35 x 2 people = $70. Had a lovely time at Ash Ridge, Oak Estate and Ngatarawa wineries before very stormy weather hit so we returned to On Yer Bike rental after only 2 hrs. In that case, the bike rental cost should have been only $25 x 2 = $50 but they would not refund us. BAD! To add further insult, the rental location is on the site of Ash Ridge Winery...he could easily have offered us a couple of glasses of wine and still had a good profit margin and maintained some goodwill. Instead, I’m writing this message: bike renter beware and boycott Ash Ridge Wines. #dontscrewtourists
My adult family of 4 all really enjoyed a beautiful Summer's day out biking, particularly away from the highway, between the vineyards. Our bikes were comfortable and reliable. We started with coffee at Ash Ridge, had delicious lunch at the Abbey and very pleasant wine tasting at Te Awa. The initial stretch of the tour is on the Highway for a short distance. In retrospect we may have walked along the grassy ditch to the side of the road over this part as the speeding cars were unnerving especially when first starting. We had good service all round.
A great day out for our company retreat. 20 of us off on a mixture of tandems, e bikes and ordinary bikes. Lunch at Abbey Estate. It was great to have ALL our wine purchased waiting for us on our return. Thanks for a great day.
This is an over priced, money making tour. The bikes were very tired and badly in need of a service. Gears slipped, tyres were under inflated and they creaked and squeaked the whole way. Not worth the $55 per bike. The briefing and map were vague at best and the initial part of the route was fenced off with a temporary electric fence. When trying to call On Yer Bike on their “if you need help or assistance (for bike break down)” we got through to their answer machine. The route is not clearly sign posted and we made numerous attempts to find some of the wineries. 2 of the 6 wineries available were closed on the day we visited which wasn’t mentioned in the briefing. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this and would have preferred a bike ride around the city or along the river.
Be very cautious before making a booking - this certainly isn't a winery tour - you won't see how wine is made at all. It's expensive bicycle hire to allow you to pedal between wineries. This post puts me in the 2% 'terrible' category, (I actually do not enjoy writing poor reviews) and I am pleased that many people have had good experiences, but a few things need highlighting for future potential customers. The On Yer Bike operators do not have an agreement with any of the local vineyards and don't even provide a taste or tour of their own vineyard! That costs an extra $49. The marketing is somewhat misleading and promotes the experience as a charming bicycle winery tour - it really isn't! The assistant who served us in the BIKE HIRE cabin knew very little about the region or wines and was evasive when asked if the tour included tasting, uncomfortably indicating that "several wines were available for tasting on the way" - sadly tasting is not included, but you will cycle to visit the gift shops. The pretty bicycles with baskets are not really equipped to handle the stoney tracks - mountain bikes would be much more suitable. It is worth noting that the map provided was quite informative, but needed pencil lines adding to indicate the route. The most alarming issue, and the reason I have written this post is because the map took us on a dangerous highway with no safe cycle path. Before I am told to 'harden up' I'd like to say that we're experienced cyclists, but we quickly got off the main carriageway and into the ditch as the trucks and vans were passing us dangerously close at 100kmph on State Highway 50. No doubt the manager will rebuke and dismiss this post and tell you that "it is only 400 metres on the highway" as he did in a quite rude and dismissive manner with us, but please shop around - there are much better (and safer) winery tours to be found in the region. We picked On Yer Bike Winery Tours out of the Lonely Planet guide which is usually spot on, but quickly abandoned this activity. After some negotiation the manager, to his credit, provided a refund. We love New Zealand, like the area and enjoy fine wines, but as a tourist and consumer, the On Yer Bike experience rates low.
We had a cracker of a day with gorgeous sunshine and clear blue skies for our winery tour. Starting at Ash Ridge winery, we were provided with our bikes and map and given some advice for the day (which wineries were open, which served food). Our bikes were easy to ride, had baskets for carrying our belongings (the company collects any wine you buy for you towards the end of the day). The start of the ride is through the vines as you wind along, its lovely to ride as it is flat. . We enjoyed tastings at a few of the wineries, bought some lovely wine and enjoyed lunch at Te Awa. The tastings cost money (price varies per winery), but it is deducted if you purchase any wine. We tried some new varieties, learnt about the region's history and met some lovely people. We ended up riding roughly 14km over the course of the day, it was all flat and and easy ride. At the end we, we were provided with our purchases. Highly recommend this self guided tour if you like a gentle ride and a different wine tasting experience.
Bikes and maps were all fabulous. Phil suggested a route which was perfect timing for us so that we visited 6 wineries in an easy 14km ride. Ash ridge to finish off with a fantastic girl enthusiastically sharing her great knowledge of your product.... I am glad to say that I am in love with Viongnier and am practicing pronouncing it!! Definitely rate you as one of our top trips for our Women In Action Group .... great time to see beautiful autumn colours in the vineyards.
We hired the tandem bike (my boyfriend booked the tandem in advance) and had an amazing day out. We bought wine at nearly every wineries we visited and it made a huge difference that the bike company collected the wine and we picked it up at the end so we didn't have to carry it around. The route was great as we didn't have to actually cycle on the main road for the majority of the way as there are cycle paths. The wineries are great - we paid $5 per person for a tasting (usually included five wines) and if we bought a bottle the $5 was waived. I would definitely do this day out again with On Yer Bike Tours.
We read all the previous reviews, but were still a bit unsure about the 20km ride, as we are only occasional bike riders - but it is setup so as to go at your own pace or to cut the tour short to suit. Very well organised, great bikes, friendly advice and tips. Friendly folk at all the vineyard. We had a terrific lunch at Oak Estate vineyard, with only a short peddle back to On Yer Bikes afterward. If you're inclined to buy wine along the way, it is collected on your behalf and waiting for you when you arrive back. Very well thought through and operated.
The service provided by On Yer Bike is beyond expectations. On Yer Bike will pick up the wine you bought so you don't need to carry them all the way. Phil and the girls were friendly and attentive. They gave us helpful advice and suggestions about where to have lunch and what to do after the wine tour. As we got back earlier than planned, Phil arranged the wine we bought to be dilivered 15 minutes later. Thanks Phil. There're 7 wineries on the route including Ash Ridhe Wines where the tour starts. Highly recommended!
