This show is absolutely spectacular! It has water, fire, lights, real animals, traditional games, history, color! It is the best show I have ever seen… and I have seen a few in different countries but this is special and more real since the protagonists are the actors and vice versa. You should not miss it! The organisation to pick you up is also fabulous. They do not fail you.

Itinerary
The Quintessence of Tonkin invites you to go through the gate of our ancient Vietnamese village and tells you the story of thousand years of literature in one hour. The Show The Show draws inspiration from the spiritual history of the nearby Thay Pagoda telling the story of the pagoda's founding by venerable monk Tu Dao Hanh, and explains the ancient union between religion and the monarchy. Years in the making and with hundreds of performers, an interactive stage, state-of-the-art technology, and a stunning setting, this live spectacle is an unmissable highlight of any trip to Hanoi
The Story You will experience six aspects of the cultural Quintessence of Tonkin: Poetry, Buddhism, Nostalgia, Music & Painting, Joy & Festivities. Not only opening up the cultural space of the northern delta with people's daily life activities, the play also shows the audience the best of the water puppetry art with the story of the venerable monk Tu Dao Hanh and the history of the ancient Thang Long royal palace.
The Performers There are two groups of performers in this show: local families of farmers, bringing their experience and showcasing their lives to the audiences, and a young team of talented Students from the Hanoi College of Dance, bringing youth and energy to the stage. The Theater The theater itself is an engineering masterpiece. The natural lake was transformed into a stage, including a state-of-the-art hydrothermal system that raises the 15-ton Thuy Dinh pagoda from under the water in just under a minute. As the Thay Mountain composes the background of the scenery, we also had to develop a unique illumination system to light up the hills, 1.5km away, using 40 lamps of 1500 watts! The Costumes The costumes are made of traditional patterns and raw materials — silk and cotton. They are all made onsite, and in order to faithfully illustrate our history and culture, were produced under the supervision of a historian and multiple artisans.

Great experience! The travel went smooth and the show was spectacular. Not all tourists do this but it’s a must see when in Hanoi! I would’ve missed out on a great evening had i not done this.
Sam was my contact for this event. He was so proactive and helpful. We had taken the platinum package with transport etc included. Best decision ever as the place is around an hour away. Sam was in touch with me periodically and updated me regarding the event clearly. He is polite and responded quickly to any concerns raised or suggestions shared. Our driver was kind and patient. He took such good care of us. He was so prompt and picked us up at the agreed time. We felt safe throughout the trip. The show started right on time and was spectacular, the setting was out of the world and the performances were simply amazing. The thought & scale put in to this production is mind blowing. The whole atmosphere was dreamy and magical. I recommend it fully. Its worth it. Kudos to Sam for making our evening so memorable 🤗🙏🙌
The show is amazing, i am really enjoying the show… fully recommended, 💖
Great show. I’ve never seen anything like it. I also booked the city tour option and thoroughly enjoyed the city tour.
The show is truly stunning with a production value that rivals any of the American theme parks. Make sure that you get the platinum package. It's well worth the extra cost to have a delete entry, reserved seats, and even a little snack.
It was a beautiful and authentic evening!
It’s a spectacle to watch. All of the people involved in it has taken a lot of effort to bring it to a proper execution. It’s absolutely worth it. The song, dance, light shows- everything was entertaining and brilliant. Though the platinum is the highest ticket range, I will suggest taking gold for the best view (carry umbrella though). The seating arrangement closer to the stage is - Gold- Silver and then Platinum (since platinum is like a pavilion with shade). Also to mention, I had taken the option of private pick-up and drop and that was exceptionally smooth. The operators were constantly in touch with me through WhatsApp giving me information of arrival of my taxi to my hotel and dropping me back to my hotel seamlessly.
The show is very wonderful and unique!!! It is something very different. The whole production especially the lighting is fascinating. Bravo!!!
This show had me on the edge of my seat from the moment it started. It was magical. And the service was first rate very professional. I highly advise it for any occasions, family, date night, solo.
We throughly enjoyed the show. It was spectacular and it exceeded our expectations. The whole performance was set in the lake at the foot of the mountain which was better than any stage production we have ever seen. The use of the water is something to behold. Any pictures you may have seen won’t do this justice, it’s a definite must see.
The show was well done and very interesting. It was good to learn some history. The ride was very long for an only an hour show.
this is a must see if you are in Hanoi . I am so grateful for this experience. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Not to mention that communication with the company was clear and good. They took us to the airport right after the shore for extra $15 and that worked out so well. I am grateful for this opportunity to experience the show and not to miss our airplane. We did take a private driver.
this show left us speechless. It is absolutely must see when in Hanoi ! Spectacular! Amazing! Unique! I am so glad we made it to this show. Our travel plans have changed and we had to leave on the day of the show. Company arranged transfer for us to the airport from the show. And we were able to leave our luggage in the car while we were enjoying the performance. We appreciate it great communication, support, and amazing art. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We booked the Gold Ticket for The Quintessence of Tonkin and added a private transfer, which was a great call. It saved us a lot of time, especially since the theater is 70km from Hanoi, and the traffic can get intense. The show itself was breathtaking—it’s the biggest cultural performance in Vietnam and Asia, featuring hundreds of local performers who bring the region’s history and traditions to life. If you’re visiting Hanoi, this show is an absolute must-see to truly understand the culture of northern Vietnam. The tour was handled by BC Family Tour, and they took care of everything, not just in Vietnam but also for our trips to Laos, Thailand, and Cambodia. What stood out was how personalized everything felt, like a bespoke experience rather than the typical mass-tourism packages. On top of that, the price was very reasonable when we booked through bcfamilytour.com. Highly recommended!
I chose the private transfer from my hotel to the event and back. Highly recommend this option if you want to shave some time off of the overall experience. Large groups just always move slower. Driver showed up on time and was very helpful. Easy to find after the show as well. Great communication from the tour organizer, everything about it was great. Would definitely recommend!
Are utilize the private transfer option to be driven directly to and from the show from my hotel. This saved time of not having to arrive too early and got me back quickly. Highly recommend this approach. Ation with the tour operator was excellent, driver was very good, and the show itself was spectacular, just as it is titled.
The show was really great! A lot of special effects and the costumes were amazing! We highly recommend. IMO, any ticket category will do, you can see well from any spot.
Hundreds of local people, families gathered to see the show because it's national holiday. Private transfar from Hanoi town 30-40 min. Swow was nice. 50-70 artists perform on huge creative stage with lazer beams. Conbination of traditional musical & puppet show. Should take seat right front of the stage for better view. I expected performances with taste of spectacle, adventure and thrill, but this is not a circus. Can't including everything at once. Fee is 15-20 USD higher than that for local people including transfer service from down town Hanoi. No tour guide. Car driver even doesn't know the name, what kind of show he is bringing customers to. But it doesn't matter for me. Foreign people price with double standard is common in Vietnam, so it's not surprising. Next time I will try to get it by local agency.
I really enjoyed the show and the transport was super convenient. The driver was punctual and easy to communicate. All the instructions that were provided were clear and easy to follow. I'm very satisfied with thev service.
Through my own fault what could have been disastrous turned out to be a great evening! I was late getting to my hotel for pickup but was told to stay where I was and the driver would come get me. The new pickup was a little confusing in the midst of the weekend festivities in Old Quarter, but the driver was relentless and managed to find me and then drive me 45 minutes to get to the show. I missed the buffet but made it in time for the show with a great seat to view and out of the rain. Afterwards, the driver was waiting on me to take me directly to my room. Great job all around!
The organisers did a great job! They were in contact with us to set up the pick up details and even upgraded us to private transfer. The ticket was sent electronically and once we arrived at the venue we exchanged it to a paper one. The area where the play is based is huge, really beautifully arranged. We had Premium seats the area is covered and they give you water, sweets and watermelon, but really the better view is with the lower grade tickets are so no need to go for the expensive ones. The play was great!! We understood a lot of it because previously we saw the Water Puppet show with audio guide and this show presents as well a lot if the Vietnamese culture.
Absolutely worth seeing. You will not be disappointed. I would certainly go back to watch. Performances and lighting display world class. Tour guide (Ban?) Was also very professional and friendly. She did a great job. Keep up the wonderful service. Paul
We were so impressed with the energy and spectacle of this event. We had seen a similar performance in China. Both were excellent but my husband and I agreed that this one was by far the more entertaining. The high energy, spectacular lighting and amazing cast made this one of the most memorable performances we have seen anywhere in the world. Special mention to our guide Loan who made sure we knew exactly where to be at all times and helped us get a taxi back to our hotel at the end of the evening. She made sure the driver knew exactly where to take us. Very helpful for us since most taxi drivers don't speak English.
Amazing cultural experience would recommend to anyone. The Show is put on by the local people, they really seem to put their love for the people and culture of Vietnam into the performance regardless of how big the crowd is.
An amazing show. We enjoyed every minute of it. The show demonstrates you a lot of vienamese history and art and is absolutely worthwhile.
40 minutes from HANOI a beautiful show on the water with dancers actors and puppets Many paintings are linked in a sound and light Before the show you have stands to eat Vietnamese specialties pancake soups and skewers and dine on tables before the show A well-orchestrated show with beautiful rather traditional images of North Vietnamese life An organized lake where different well-orchestrated scenes stand We stay in the naive What to discover if you are on HANOI
