Generations ago, Vietnamese puppeteers performed for their rural communities in waist-deep water, bringing to life legends and stories about their region. Water puppetry theaters like Thang Long Water Puppet Theater continue that tradition into the modern day and are a fun, family-friendly way to experience a hallmark of traditional Vietnamese culture. With the entrance ticket you have the chance to relish in the fascinating art of a water puppet show, which is closely associated with the spiritual life of Vietnamese people, especially in the countryside. The show’s chosen stage is the surface of a water pool. The puppeteers present their clever skills in managing puppets by long bamboo rods and string mechanism under the surface. A traditional Vietnamese orchestra is an excellent music accompaniment. The puppets depict the story from the songs during the show, which reflects the peaceful life of the Vietnamese countryside, so it is not too difficult to understand it.

The puppet show is a must do when in Hanoi. It’s unique and the puppeteers are amazing. However, getting the tickets when you buy through Viator is kind of a mess. It would just be easier to walk up to the window and buy the ticket without going through a third-party. Trust me you can do it and there’s no confusion or trying to find the right place to get your ticket. Show up with cash in hand and get a ticket and go right on in – – easier than ordering here.
Interesting show. Getting ticket and to seats was confusing and a bit chaotic. Purchases a VIP first four rows ticket but was but in 5th row all the way at end with partially blocked view, even though many of the seats in the first four rows were empty and available. I also purchased an English tour at 145 pm that was cancelled and i was offered a 3 pm and assured it was the same thing, but when I arrived, they told me that the show was only in Vietnamese and I would need to pay extra for an audio guide (which I didn’t do and really didn’t seem all that necessary). I would probably go straight to the theater if possible and purchase my ticket there.
Water puppets are form of art unique to Vietnam. The puppetry is entertaining even if you can't understand the language, and the live music is amazing. I recommend catching a show at least once if you ever have the chance.
From booking to the end of the show, I could feel Asia Travel Legend’s genuine care for every traveler. The staff proactively confirmed my booking, reminded me of pickup times, and were always ready to help whenever needed. That attentiveness made my journey feel effortless, as if everything had been perfectly arranged for me to simply enjoy.
I was truly impressed by Asia Travel Legend’s online booking system. With just a few taps on my phone, everything was done in less than five minutes. No waiting in line, no complicated confirmations – the ticket was ready and waiting exactly on time.
What impressed me most was how Asia Travel Legend brings Vietnamese culture closer to travelers. The water puppetry show was not just entertainment it was a journey into a world of folklore, where tradition meets modernity. I left the theater still hearing the echoes of drums and laughter, feeling deeply proud of my homeland. More than a trip
It took me just a few minutes to book a seat for the water puppet show, and when I arrived, the staff were already waiting with warm smiles. No waiting, no hassle—everything ran smoothly and professionally. That experience made me truly trust and appreciate Asia Travel Legend.
I have gone to Thang Long water pupet show, it was very good. I booked from asia travel legend to took online ticket. its fast, dont need cue, staff very friendly. Thats reason i love VietNam and Ha Noi.
This was an unexpectedly brilliant experience! I'd definitely recommend it if visiting Ho Chi Minh. It was nearly full so definitely book in advance
It was awesome but the light went off during the show. It took a while for the power to be back and then the AC didnt work.
Really great show, very talented individuals performing that being the puppeteers or musicians.Culturally significant and a privilege to see. It’s about the right length (50 mins) and entertaining for all ages. We booked online two days in advance for 3rd row seats. Ignore the bad reviews - some people just can’t be pleased. Definitely worth a visit if you’re at all interested in Vietnamese culture. Good value too.
This is an enchanting experience,I really enjoyed it. It’s puppets in water, telling stories of life in villages in years gone by.Great musicians who seemed to love every minute. Nice to see
We booked tickets online and had Great experience! Value price. Good for family and children. Highly recommend to friends
The tour company representative did not come to the site, so I was unable to receive the ticket. If you buy it at the local counter, you can buy it for 2/3 of the price of this tour and there will be no trouble. It is better not to use it at all.
The puppet experience is correct. However, this ticket lets you sip at the door until all the other spectators have chosen their seats, and then you take the few remaining seats randomly in the hall. Rather disappointing for a skip-the-line ticket! I suggest you purchase your tickets in another way if you want to share this experience with a loved one.
