Nice to see a local tradition. Good puppetry and music. Just wished we’d looked up the story beforehand! Lasts an hour.
It was amazing! Spend the money for the headset to hear in English if you do not know the language!
This was an interesting look at theatrical Vietnamese culture
I went to the Thang Long Water Puppet show on a rainy Hanoi evening and ended up really enjoying it. The puppets were clever, the live music had that sharp, twangy sound that stuck in your head, and I liked seeing the water splash around the stage. It felt very local and different from the usual tourist stuff. That said, the theater was packed, the seats were a bit cramped, and if you don’t know the stories already, some parts go by fast. The show is also pretty short, so it doesn’t take up much of an evening. Still, I’d definitely recommend it if you’re in Hanoi, just go in expecting a simple cultural stop rather than a big production.
They are a very talented group of performers. The singers and musicians were obviously very good. We would advise that you do get the audio guide so that you have some idea on the folklore behind the performances. We did appreciate the professionalism that went into the show, but it wasn’t our thing.
One in a Lifetime experiences. And it's worth every single penny. Whenever you have an opportunity to visit Hanoi, you must go to this theatre, and immerse yourself in the suburbs of Vietnam
It takes an hour and is a magical Cultural show. Don't go thinking Disney or Broadway, this is a distinctly Vietnamese cultural, traditional show featuring Water Puppets. The theatre is clean and the seats are very comfortable. We thought it a great experience and I would recommend to everyone, but particularly those with young kids.
There is no audio guide included with the ticket price, I was also sat in G16 (everywhere else sold out) and could hardly see a thing! 50 minutes is a long time to watch puppets you can only just see but can’t understand. Good puppetry skills though. Disappointed as expected it to be better.
This was recommended to us and for an alternative and quirky Vietnamese experience , this fitted the bill perfectly. Would recommend sitting as near to front as possible and we didn’t realize that you good get an audio, but if you’re new to Vietnam , it might be worth it. We just sat back and enjoyed the live music , singing and expertly choreographed and synchronized puppet show which lasted less than an hour.
A very unique and entertaining experience. 50 minutes of story telling, with music and a Vietnamese narration, well worth a visit.
Was really good and could even follow it in Vietnamese! £5 for both of us and got tickets in the morning for the afternoon show no problem
The entire show was in Vietnamese and we didn't understand anything. Half the people leave the theatre mid-way. We had gone there with 2 toddlers and they didn't enjoy it all.
The show would be fantastic if not for the very rude audience members. We had to leave the first show we had tickets for due to a family of about 7 seated in the front row. They wouldn't stay seated, talked non-stop, and ruined the show for anyone seated around them. We left and had to argue with the staff for over 15 minutes to either get tickets for a later show or get a refund. At least 3 staff told us this was impossible until I threatened a bad review. Finally, someone who appeared to be in charge changed us to a later show. About 5 minutes a man and his young child moved to the row in front of us and proceeded to talk through the entire performance. The music and puppetry are amazing. The rude audience members and the staff who allow the rude behavior, make this less than a great experience. If you are going to go, ensure you get front row seats so no one with bad makers can disrupt the show for you. If you go to the show, don't be one of those peoplenwhonruin the shpuw for everyone else because you don't know how to behave in a public place.
It was a lot of fun. Local music and live performances, and it's very easy to get around.
Fantastic experience. It's worth seeing is something unique with music shock you feel everything from Vietnam!!!
A very nice show, real music players and singers, great staging of the country. We have a super pleasant time. We really recommend this show.
