Had a great morning with Sam. The stops on the tour got all the highlights intending Hanoi. It had good pacing with refreshments and food, and a good mix of walking and transport. Sam was very knowledgeable about everything we saw, and he was extremely helpful by offering tips for the rest of our stay.

Itinerary
Start the city tour with a visit to the Temple of Literature. Originally built in honour of Confucius by King Ly Thai Thong in 1070, a university was added to the grounds six years later. The university provided education to the royal family and children of the aristocracy or "mandarins". The University remained here until King Gia Long moved the country's administrative capital from Hanoi to Hue at the beginning of the 19th century.
Drop into a traditional teahouse to taste some of the best Vietnamese flavoured green teas, and listen to thousand-year-oldstories explaining the significance of tea leaves to local cultures. Tea is even better when served with some authentic snacks such as sweetened lotus seeds and green bean cake.
We'll head to the Hoa Lo Prison museum. Used by French Colonists for political prisoners till 1954 and later by North Vietnam for American POWs, the prison complex was sarcastically nicknamed the "Hanoi Hilton" by American pilots during Vietnam War (1954-1975). Famous ex-prisoners of war include Pete Peterson (the first US ambassador to a unified Vietnam in 1995), and US Senator John McCain.
Our next stop will be the largest and oldest church in Hanoi. St Joseph's Cathedral was built in 1886 with an architectural style often compared to the Notre Dame de Paris, this Gothic Revival church is not only a religious site, but is also a popular photo shoot backdrop for local teenagers.
We'll continue to the heart of Hanoi - the Hoan Kiem Lake, with its magnificent The Huc Bridge and Ngoc Son temple. Experience the spiritual harmony of different religions coexisting in the same place.
We stop for lunch with Pho which is one of Vietnam must do before ending the tour.

We had a great morning on this tour. Picked up at our hotel by Quang and nice driver in air conditioned van, very informative, friendly and relaxed trip around some famous Hanoi sites.A delicous lunch included as well as tea break in a beautiful spot. Highly recommend this tour. Richard and Marianne .
We had such a great time with An on this private tour. She was so knowledgeable and always able to answer our questions! She has such a great love for her country and it made the tour all the more enjoyable! The tour was a great introduction to the city and we got to try Bun Cha (which is our new favourite Vietnamese dish!). An gave us so many great recommendations! 100% worth it if it’s your first time in Hanoi. Thank you so much An!!!
Chi chin was fun to be with any very informative. We can highly recommend him as a tour guide. Tea cafe was exceptional and wouldn’t have found it without him. He also recommended a place to eat in the evening, in the old quarter. Which was fantastic and so worth waiting to be seated as it was extremely busy.
Took the morning highlights tour with San and it was excellent. A great introduction to Hanoi, Vietnam, the culture, and the people. San was a wealth of knowledge and answered all our questions. He was also able to share personal stories and insights that made the tour really memorable. A great way to start my trip to Vietnam and I would highly recommend this tour.
Was a beautiful tour and An was a lovely guide, gave us lots of facts and was happy to assist. Loved that she is so proud of her country and how far it has come.
An was an amiable and knowledgeable guide who tailored the tour to our family beautifully. We enjoyed getting a grounding in Hanoi and being taken to spots we'd otherwise not have experienced. The Tea house was lovely and quiet and Pho for lunch was a perfect finish to our half day out.
We had a great morning exploring some of the quieter side of Hanoi with An. Loved the tea house (with cats!) and the temple of Literature. An was able to present the information in a fun and engaging way so that even our teen enjoyed herself.
Today I went on a tour with Hanoi Urban Adventures. I did the "Private Hanoi: Crowd-free Morning Highlights of the City" tour, booked via the Intrepid website. An was my tour guide for the day. An introduced herself and spoke English, which was great for me who only knows very little Vietnamese. The tour started with a car pickup from my hotel which was very convenient. We started off at the University Temple of Literature, then to traditional tea house "Hien Minh" where I was able to try local red leaf and lotus tea. It was very delicious and the tea house was very calming in contrast to the busy and hectic Hanoi streets just outside. Afterwards, we went to Hỏa Lò prison (Hanoi Hilton) that was used by both the French during their time in power and later the North Vietnamese to imprison captured US soldiers during the Vietnam war. Later, An took me to see Hoàn Kiếm Lake (Sword Lake) and the Đền Ngọc Sơn temple in the centre. Finally, we finished at Phở Thìn Bờ Hồ with a bowl of traditional beef Phở. It was a great tour and An was very informative, with a great wealth of knowledge to share about Hanoi. Thank you, An!
Tommy did a wonderful job as a guide for the food tour and the Hanoi city tour. I was very happy to have him as my guide for both activities. He is knowledgeable, friendly and didn’t mind when I stopped to take photos or go into a shop. He is a terrific guide.
An was very informative and knowledgeable and explained what was the meaning or history behind certain items or artefacts. She was always pleasant and engaging
The trip was amazing and a great start for our Hanoi visit. Our tourguide An was very good. She knew alot about the places that we visited and was well-versed in English!
Tommy was a great tour guide. He picked us up exactly on time from our hotel. He was very good at explaining the history of all of the places on the tour. I’d highly recommend doing this tour if you have a free morning in Hanoi.
An was a fantastic guide. She was passionate and very knowledgeable about the significance of the places she took us too. She catered for our extra needs as well. Highly recommended if you are interested in history
Our tour guide An was great. She gave us a really good insight into Vietnam’s history over the past century and it was great to hear from the point of view of a qualified person of a younger generation. We thoroughly enjoyed An’s tour and the whole experience in Hanoi. The lunch experience was something we won’t forget, not going through the Hanoi “Hilton”. Sad, but we wanted to understand. Thanks An and Urban Adventures
We had a great time on this tour. Our tour guide, An, was excellent. She was very informative and made it a great tour. Would highly recommend this tour. The pho for lunch was fantastic.
We enjoyed our tour of the city of Hanoi with our knowledgeable guide, An. It was great having a driver who got us safely through each location. We started with the Temple of Literature which was built in honor of Confucius in 1970. It became a University accepting students from the aristocracy society in 1076. We continued our tour visiting a traditional tea house where we heard about the importance of tea to the Vietnam Culture. We had delicious Lotus Flower Tea with traditional Green Bean Cake. We stopped at the infamous “Hanoi Hilton “. This place holds a dark place in history first as prison used by the French to imprison Vietnamese people and later used by the Vietnam soldiers to imprison American Prisoners of War. We then visited the beautiful Ngoc Son Temple located at the beautiful Hoan Kiem Lake. Our guide, An made this experience even more special by sharing stories and traditions from that era. stopped at Pho Thin a local lunch spot for some delicious Pho, Chinese donuts, and ice tea. We finished our tour visiting the impressive St. Joseph Cathedral which had a French Style Gothic Architecture. We can not say enough how much we enjoyed the tour and our personable and professional guide, An.
My tour guide San, was extremely good. Provided meaningful commentary of the sites we visited. Great experience and I would recommend to others
This was a very thorough private tour. The guide was very knowledgeable and informative. We would recommend. We had a fabulous lotus tea experience and learned how the tea was made. We also had a great Pho lunch at a local spot.
Great half day trip. Good introduction to Hanoi and the opportunity to visit a couple of key sites and eat local food. Our guide Nguyen Nguyen (Tom) was really friendly and knowledgeable. Would recommend.
We went on this tour today with Nguyen Nguyen and had a great morning. A good opportunity to get a mixture of history, a sense of the city and try some great food. A good way to see the sights and sounds of Hanoi.
Excellent tour by Nguyen Nguyen (Tommy) was an great tour of Hanoi looking at key sites. The tour covered a safe car tour then the remainder walking. With some great food thrown in this tour of Hanoi I would recommend.
Absolutely awesome. San was knowledgeable and friendly and a great guide. we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this tour. We were lucky to just do this as a family without the crowds
Amazing tour and our guide was so knowledgeable. A good amount of time and the food was fabulously. Highly recommend it.
The knowledge of Chinh made the tour an amazing experience. It was wonderful exposure to Vietnam with spectacular food and experiences. I would thoroughly recommend it!
What a friendly and informative tour. Chinh was fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble and what a font of knowledge! Highly recommend this your.
Chinh was the best guide! He was so knowledgeable and patient and made sure we had the very best experience for our first morning in Hanoi.
Chinchin was an amazing tour guide! He’s knowledge and humor made the morning great. The tour is a great mix of history and current culture. Loved it!
Chin was an informative and friendly guide. We were taken from place to place by his driver in a comfortable SUV. Our first stop was the Temple of literature which sits in beautiful gardens. Chin explained the fascinating history and was happy to answer all our questions. The mix of historic sites, local industry and exposure to an authentic tea house and the hidden Pho cafe was perfect. Every aspect of the trip was enjoyable and a wonderful exposure to Hanoi culture.
Chinh provided an excellent tour to introduce us to Hanoi and Vietnam. We added this on before starting the Vietnam Express Southbound trip through Intrepid. Since we had arrived late the night before, it felt really comforting to meet with Chinh right away the next morning and learn everything from the basics of how to cross a street or enjoy a bowl of pho to the details of The Temple of Literature and Hoa Lo Prison. He was even so kind as to ask what else we're interested in seeing in Hanoi after and provided us specific location recommendations. If you're debating, this is your sign to just book it!
My husband and I had a great first day in Hanoi doing this outing with Chinh! Private tour meant we were able to go places easily and Chinh took care of everything including tickets, transport and meal ordering. I loved going through the back alleys I wouldn't have chosen to take myself. Chinh was very knowledgeable and passionate about his job which made the experience even better.
Cuong was an excellent tour guide for our visit to Hanoi. He was funny, compassionate, informative and went at a pace that was very suitable for my husband and I. His driver was always ready at our different locations without fail.
Realy enjoyed our Guide Cuong Tran Duy. He had a great sense of humor and introduced us to many of the important sights of Hanoi. We enjoyed being invited to to visit a traditional Teahous to sample different teas, a lunch of Pho lunch in neighborhood restaurant. The most impressive was being able to stroll the angent grounds of the university at the Temple of Literature and hear about its history. This tour is recommended for seniors as you travel in comfort by A/C car or minibus. Would definately recommend this tour. Roland, USA PS Cuong Thank you very much.
Our guide was excellent, very informative and helpful. Great way to see sights and experience the culture.
Chinh was really lovely. He took us to some temples, tea houses, museum, local food places and also to a beautiful local shop. He explained the history of the places and it was really heart breaking to hear about the history of the places but so happy to see how much they have grown. The food places he brought us to was so yummy. We had many wonderful conversations on philosophy and the way of life. It was definitely a recommended and memorable experience
This was a very great experience! Our tour guide, San, was super smart and really catered to our pace.
Just finished my morning/half day city tour of Hanoi and couldn't be happier. My guide Chinh was excellent, very personable and extremely knowledgeable of the history and loved sharing it with me! Despite the intermittent rain and being the only one on the tour, the company came through and Chinh delivered a great trip. I feel lucky for the private experience and the weather from the aftermath of the typhoon was even peaceful. Don't miss out on this experience, it will not disappoint, not to mention the Pho bo lunch was the best I've ever had, and this was marks my 4th trip to Vietnam (1st time in Hanoi)!
We took the Morning Highlights Tour a few days ago. Our guide, Victor, was really informative and took the time to ensure we had enough information at each of our stops. I thought we would need to walk more so was pleasantly surprised, as it was a very warm humid day, that we had coach transport between the places of interest. Victor took us to a secret cafe after our tour had finished for those of us who wanted to experience Vietnam’s famous Egg Coffee . . . Mmm! A great tour Victor and Urban Adventures.
Our Guide, Victor, was very helpful and accommodating. He is very knowledgeable and kind and made the tour interesting
Nice way to see the main highlights of Hanoi. We were only 3 in the group making the journey really personalised and fun. Mike (My) was our guide and he was beyond good. Did a really good Explanation of the main sites as well as answer pretty much every question we had on Hanoi and Vietnam. Thanks to him I had a better understanding on the Vietnam War. Really would recommend it to anybody passing by Hanoi.
A great way to orientate to the city. Our guide Mike was an incredible source of knowledge and provided us with the history of the city. He taught us how not to die when crossing the road and could answer any question we asked. Enjoyable way to spend the morning.
Tour was well organised and very informative . Chinh our guide spoke excellent English. With our day finishing with a lovely bowl of beef noodle soup.
Chinh was a fantastic guide and very knowledgeable. The tour was well paced and offered an excellent overview of Hanoi's enormous history. The bowl of rice beef noodle was a great way to end the tour. Thanks for a great morning Chinh!
Chinh was amazing! Very knowledgeable of the city and our many stops. We would definitely recommend it to other couples wanting to see and get some extra knowledge of the city. Chinh is your guy! P.S. I almost forgot, tea time was our fave!
Our tour guide Hoangle or better known as “Lee” provided a most informative and enjoyable experience that we highly recommend. Some highlights of the tour included The Temple of Literature, Hoa Lo Prison and the Huc Bridge - Ngoc Son Temple. We also had time to see St Joseph,s Cathedral before ending the tour with a stop for a traditional meal of noodle Pho. Thankyou Lee for making this experience of Hanoi an exceptional one to remember!
Chin was an amazing tour guide! He meet me at the hotel I was staying at and took me around town. We saw the Temple of Literature, the "Hanoi Hilton" and other sights around Hanoi. He also had a good eye for local food places where you can try real authentic Vietnamese food and tea. He was also quite open to talking about Vietnam and what it is like to live there today. If you are new to Hanoi and Vietnam, do this tour. It is a great introduction to a easy to love city and country.
We absolutely loved the Hanoi morning Highlights tour. We were met by our guide Lee who was absolutely brilliant. He went out of his way to make our day fun and he was so informative I quickly got to know the ins and outs of Hanoi. We were taken to all the great sights and all done without the stress of finding parking or waiting in long lines. Everything was taken care of including entry tickets, coffee/drinks and a beautiful lunch. I have recommended this tour to others on my trip and have also insisted they choose Lee as their guide. I will definitely return to Vietnam.
Really enjoyed this tour with Lee! He was super friendly and informative and I would highly suggest this for anyone coming to Hanoi for the first time.
Just did the tour with my daughter while visiting Vietnam, and our tour guide, Lee, was so nice & informative. We learned a lot as he showed us around the city. Highly recommended to see & learn about the city!
Our group was lead by Hoa (Flower). She had very good English and was very good at explaining the historical aspects of the city and answering any questions we had. We met at the Opera House, which was out of the way for everyone on the tour was staying in the Old Quarter. We immediately hopped into an air conditoned van and went to the Temple of Literature, Hanoi Hilton, stopped for tea, visited Hoan Kiem Lake and pagoda, and finished with a bowl of pho for lunch. Very lovely, however, the price seemed a bit high (over $30 US) because two of the stops we visited are free entry and the tea/pho prices were about $1 US each.
