Hanoi: Private Customizable Street Food Tour With 10 Dishes

We thoroughly enjoyed our food tour with Patrick. He spoke English very well and was very enthusiastic about taking us to some of his favorite places. We enjoyed beef noodle salad, dry pho, ban cuon, crispy eel noodles and other savory foods. We also enjoyed our desserts, including a jelly type dessert and Cocunut ice cream. It was our first day in Vietnam so we were a little hesitant to eat fresh lettuce in one of the salads and ice in our sugarcane drink, but we had no stomach issues. We would definitely recommend this food tour . Thank you Patrick!

Great introduction to Hanoi, we went on a Sunday night so the night market was on. Kenny was a great guide, we can’t recommend him highly enough.

Minh was excellent !!! He took the time to ask questions, understand what our likes / dislikes were and more importantly, he shared with us the history of Vietnamese food and culture. And an all around nice guy! So happy we paired with him !!!

We had THE BEST evening with Patrick tonight. He took us to hidden culinary gems in Hanoi and we loved it all! Our two girls (critical teenagers :)) loved it too. Patrick is a super welcoming and friendly host, he shares his extensive knowledge, is very open and takes really good care. He was also super careful with my glute intolerance. We would highly recommend Patrick!

Our introduction to Minh started as a mistake. Sharing the same name as another guest at the hotel we were staying at, my partner and I, along with Minh, set off on a tour that was to never be. After the first spot - which blew us away, Minh and I received calls asking where we were, and realising our mistake we reluctantly traipsed back to the hotel to go on the tour we had initially booked. However, Minh’s magnetic personality and the food spot instantly vibed with us and we knew we had to go on his tour. So after exchanging numbers, we booked ourselves a tour for our final night of the trip and it was a superb way to end. He took us to so many spots off the beaten tourist path and was accommodating the whole evening. I cant recommend him highly enough!

Not only did he introduce us to new foods but how to eat them. He is an expert on the country's history so it was facinating talking to him about this wonderful country. He's ser us up with places to go out and go to in other towns too. We all highly recommend Minh.

My husband and I had Minh as our personal tour guide and we had the best time! We were able to experience our first taste of Hanoi with him, taking us into alleyways and bringing us into the ultimate local spots. We loved every place he took us to and now we feel lost without him. Great food, great company, and lots of shared stories and laughs! Bob was the best food tour guide! He included fun history tidbits that made every stop so much more engaging. He took us to genuine, authentic spots—no tourist traps, just the real deal. Loved every dish we ate but most memorable for me is the phở at his mom's restaurant, Phở Gà Hà, and a local favorite pho and spring rolls place at Hàng Quạt—both were incredible. He was super generous with recommendations for other spots we could try on our own. Right after our 3-hour tour, we chilled at his suggested cafe, with its gorgeous second floor full of colorful lanterns. His dinner pick at the Michelin Guide-listed resto that offers fish with vegetbles, nuts and noodles was perfect. The stir-fried beef phở at one of his favorite phở spots is delicious with huge servings—I had to take some home! Super chill, knowledgeable guy. Book him—you won't regret it!

Fun,casual way to immerse ourselves in the local cuisine. Enjoyed the 5 stops with different dishes. Now I'm even more interested to learn about local vietnamese food and customs. As we only had one full day in Hanoi, we booked a private food tour with HA Food tours, which was the best decision we could have made. From the booking process until the drop-off at our hotel, the service was impeccable and punctual. Ricky, our guide, and his companion Ben were great guys to go on this tour with. We especially enjoyed the fact that it was a real local tour; we didn’t meet any other tourists in any of the food venues we visited. Also, the guys weren't wearing uniforms, so we completely blended into the traffic like locals. If you are looking for a brief impression of Hanoi combined with off-the-beaten-path food experiences, this is the tour for you!

Patrick is an amazing local guide. Born and raised in Hanoi, he has a wonderful and fantastic knowledge of the local food scene and the history and culture of Hanoi. Our walking tour with him was excellent as we tried many of Hanoi’s and Vietnam’s delicious street cuisine. He took us to may family owned and operated small shops hidden to everyone but the locals. We learned so much about Vietnamese culture and history while tasting delicious meals. Highly recommend

We had a very pleasant 3 hour tour in the city center of Hanoi, with multiple incredibly tasty and local dishes. Our guide Kenny was very helpful and open to answer any of our questions about the food, the city and the culture. Absolutely recommend it.

We had a truly excellent food tour with Ha Food Tours in Hanoi and can honestly say it was one of the highlights of our stay. Patrick, our guide, was not only extremely knowledgeable about Vietnamese cuisine, but also showed remarkable personal culture, tact, and class. Patrick led the group with calm confidence, never interrupting conversations, yet always present, attentive, and in control. You could feel that you were in good hands. Patrick explained the dishes and the culinary context in a clear, engaging way, answered even more demanding questions thoughtfully, and occasionally added a personal touch. The evening felt relaxed, safe, and very well paced. The amount and variety of food were impressive: soups, fish, baguettes, local specialties, and finally desserts. Everything was carefully selected and well explained. The tour was absolutely good value for money. We were a small group (two of us and two Australian couples), and despite being strangers, we had a great evening together — good food, good conversation, and a very well-moderated atmosphere. I highly recommend this tour if you want not just to eat well, but to actually understand Vietnamese noodles (pho, bun cha, bun bo, and others) and enjoy the experience in a truly enjoyable way.

Just spent an amazing morning on the Hi End Private Food Tour with a real foodie. Massive shoutout to our incredible guide Cherry for showing us the hidden culinary gems of Hanoi. We tasted everything from authentic banh mi and bia hoi to heavenly pho and learned so much about the local food scene.

My food tour was with "Patrick" who was indeed excellent. Everyone knew him well wherever we visited. He was fun and most interesting. The tour was a great introduction to Vietnamese street food and I was glad I did it on my first day here. The food tour was amazing! James my tour guide was patient and knew a lot about the local cuisine. He even came back at night to take me to Train Street because we ran out of time during the day.

James was great and took us to some places we likely would not have found ourselves. Friendly and knowledgeable and responsive to the group. Bun Cha, Egg coffee, Coconut Ice cream and a banging peanut sauce on the summer rolls the highlights. Maybe the beer stop could have been dialled up a bit.

This was hands down the best food tour I have ever been on. Patrick was super knowledgeable, fun and engaging. We tried several local dishes which were of amazing quality. This tour is great value for money and a good starting point for your time in Hanoi. Patrick later sent through all of the recommendations, as well as some for other cities we are visiting in Vietnam, all of which have been impeccable so far. Special shout out to Patrick for going above and beyond! We did this with our 4 month old and Patrick and the group were very accommodating.

We booked the 10:00 am Private Hanoi Street Food Tour with a Real Foodie and spent an incredible four hours with Minh, tasting an amazing variety of Vietnamese street food. Minh was a fantastic guide—friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about both the food and the culture. He took us to places we never would have found on our own and ordered the best dishes at each stop; and each place was one of his personal favorites, where he eats himself. But it was more than just the food. Minh showed us how to personalize every dish to our taste, using condiments like rice vinegar, chilis, and pepper, transforming already delicious bites into something unforgettable. He also shared practical tips on how to eat street food safely, explaining when to be cautious and what to look for. There was so much food that by the end of the tour, we couldn’t eat another bite! Minh’s connections around the city made the experience even more special. He even brought us to a hidden little speakeasy, where we sat and talked about life, Vietnam, and so much more. After the tour, he followed up with detailed recommendations for more places to eat and shop, making sure our culinary adventure didn’t end when the tour did. Tour was organised with hostel and I would fully recommend. Tom was so friendly and knowledgeable, we learnt so much about Vietnamese history and cuisine. All the food was delicious and went to restaurants I never would have tried otherwise (some not even on google maps). Highlight was going to a restaurant to build our own roll to dip in peanut and rice porridge sauce, something I never would have tried otherwise!

Our Hanoi food tour was one of the highlights of our tour!! Sandy was amazing and tailored our tour to help us try things we hadn’t yet tried. She spent time with us up front to find out what we had already tried, what kinds of things we liked and chose places that could accommodate a comparable non-meat option for our group’s vegetarian. All of her choices were wonderful and the four people on our tour had four different favorite dishes. They were all so good!!

Part of the reason we booked the tour was to eat vegan food in more local & authentic places that we wouldn't have discovered on our own. And this did not disappoint! Lucky listened to what we were interested in eating or hadn't tried yet, adapting the stops to make the tour unique and personal. He was also really knowledgeable, teaching us about each dish, the culture, and also the history of Hanoi throughout the tour. Most importantly of course, everything we ate was absolutely delicious!
