Was a good tour for the price. The best part was our tour guide châu. She was very sweet and knowable and gifted us a crochet flower that is now hanging off my pack.

Itinerary
At 9:00 AM or 2:00 PM, our guide will pick you up at your hotel then start the tour. Our tour guide will welcome you at your hotel then start the walking tour to discover Hanoi’s Old Quarter which is famous with “36 guild streets” in the past time. Nowaday, the villages were turned to streets and many of them didn’t feature the business as it names anymore. But it’s worth your time to wander along the old streets and you surely gain many exciting experience. Despite the damages that Vietnam War left in Hanoi, the Old Quarter still retained much of the original traits that interests tourists, especially those with architectural passion. These houses are neither tall buildings as people normally see in cities nor stilt houses on lines of poles, which were popular in Vietnam’s mountainous regions these days. They are also called “tubular houses” which are short and narrow but have great length.
After walking around and enjoy some local specialties (excluded), continue to Hoan Kiem Lake area where you can pay a visit Ngoc Son temple or enjoy a drink at Trang Tien Ice Cream, Thuy Ta Ice Cream or some famous café shop/restaurants nearby. We have the walking street and “Night market” at the weekend where no vehicles are allowed, so you can enjoy walking and going shopping without being afraid of the traffic. Tour ends around 12:00 PM (for the morning tour) or 5:00 PM (for the afternoon tour)

It was a nice way to spend a few hours and get to know the city better. Understanding the culture and both French and Chinese influences
They never showed up. I am very disappointed. They didn’t communicate before or after the tour schedule. I believe this is a fraud.
Our tour guide did not show. Hopefully a full refund d is given. We embarked on our own walking tour.
Great tour ! We went all around the old quarter and saw so much in 3 hours! Vania was a great guide, very friendly and spoke a fantastic level of English. I would highly recommend the experience to anyone thinking of doing it !
This tour welcomed me to Hanoi as my first view of the city, and for that, I had a local student to escort me. The tour was far from my expectations, since she didn't know much about history and didn't have a tour guide approach. She was very helpful to buy some clothes since the temperature dropped drastically that day and pick up some tickets from a travel agency, but apart from that, it was a poor experience. The most important spot was a kind of museum that she said was not so important, and we could go ahead. It was a place with lots of pictures that explained how the Old Quarter grew and the architectural evolution of the houses in that area. Far the most important place to visit, with at least 1.5 hours. Before sending someone, ask people their age and expectations in order to choose the best knowledge guides for some historical-oriented travelers. Then everything will be more efficient.
Hi everyone! Would like to say big “Thank you” to Ashley for a great introduction with old Quarter part of Hanoi in frame of excursion. Detailed stories, light and at the same time quite informative presentation ,good English gave me so much joy. Additionally Ashley gave so many recommendations ,which I personally asked. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable guide Ashley! Highly recommended and wish all the best!:)
Our guide for the Old Quarter walking tour was Lyn. She was very punctual and had contacted us one day before the tour. She was very informative and was kind to answer all our questions (which we asked quite a lot). She was very friendly and took us for a cup of coffee as well. Overall totally recommend her.
Excellent introduction to vietnamese culture by Vania. Wouldnt have gained relevant knowledge and insight abt viet culture in such short span of time by my own. Also thankful for her flexibility, time and effort taken to join me in the tour.
Monica was a great tour guide - very understanding and accomodating, esp as my parents are aged and needed to rest every now and then. She gave us useful info about all the sights and we would recommend her for sure.
Hannah was an excellent guide. Very informative and super friendly. We learnt so much about the history of Hanoi and Vietnam. Hannah also introduced us. to coconut coffee, a must try!
This tour is an amazing way to explore the streets of Hanoi's Old Quarter. Our tour guide Linh did an amazing job of showing us around. We were lucky enough to visit some main highlights as well as a hidden Cafe for Egg coffee as well as a hotspot ice cream shop. Linh is passionate guide.
Vania was incredible! Amazing insight into the history, culture and spirituality of Hanoi. We explored the Hoan Kiem Lake, the Temple, the busy streets of the old quarter and the heritage house. Highly recommend!
Stella was an amazing and very knowledgeable tour guide. She took us on the Old Quarter tour where we visited many interesting places. She also shared a lot of historic facts and we were able to learn a lot about Vietnamese culture and traditions from her. She also shared a lot of local tips on what to eat and where to visit. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Hanoi. Thanks Stella for the experience!
We had an excellent tour with Ria. She was so friendly and knowledgeable and her English was great. We felt we got a lot more out of the experience than we would have just exploring the Old Quarter by ourselves. Would recommend!
Highly recommend experience for anyone with a curiosity about Vietnamese culture and history. Our guide Vania was extremely knowledgeable, drawing connections between Vietnamese symbolism and language to that of related Asian cultures. Great experience, would recommend and it doesn't take too much time
The tour guide Lyn was very good, she actually knew a lot of details and gave us a very detailed tour. She spoke excellent English and was very kind in the whole tour.. I highly recommend this option to be your first by the time you arrive in Hanoi!!!
I booked the free walking tour with Lyna through my hostel and it was fantastic- I was the only one on the tour but Lyna was no less enthusiastic to show me all the sights in the old town including the market, lake and temples. Her english was impeccable (for someone from the UK) and she was extremely knowledgeable and informative when answering all my questions. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who just arrived in Hanoi and are unsure of what to spend the day doing (it took about 2 hours). Thanks so much again!
My partner and I loved the foodies tour of Hanoi. This was largely due to our fabulous host, Redaria. Redaria had curated the tour so that my both my vegan, and my partner’s non vegan, dietary preferences could be met. I searched high and low throughout the rest of our Vietnam tour for the scrumptious sweet-stuffed rice balls in ginger ‘soup’. Alas they were not to be found. I’m so glad that I relished them in Hanoi with my partner and Redaria from Free Walking Tours.
Helen was an excellent tour guide of th Old Quarter! She was very knowledgeable about the different sites we stopped at and gave excellent recommendations for food and activities throughout the city. Would highly recommend.
LyNa was an excellent guide, very friendly, sharing an amazing amount of historical information. We saw some a variety of well known landmarks plus lots of hidden gems. Would highly recommend.
I had a Hanoi Old Quarter Private Walking Tour with Ashley on the chilly Christmas Eve. It is an excellent way to start my 1st day in Hanoi. She picked up me at my hotel and walked together to many different sights both well-known and hidden gem in the old quarter district. Thank you Ashley !!
Helen was a wonderful guide, full of enthusiasm and very knowledgeable about the history and traditions of Vietnam. She knew many interesting facts about the places we visited, including the Xuan Dong market, Heritage house, Ngoc Son temple, the St. Joseph's Cathedral and showed me some “hidden gems” in the Old Quarter. She also shared many insights about current day Vietnam and the life of the local people and was very happy to answer all my questions. After the tour ( upon my request) she send me amazing food and coffee recommendation. Overall, I am very happy with this great experience and would definitely recommend this tour and Helen as a guide to everyone visiting Hanoi!
We did the old quarter tour with Hieu. He was very knowledgeable and it was a fun tour. Would recommend!
After trying to navigate the streets of the old quarter and consequently getting lost several times we decided to try a walking tour. We were connected with Leo who guided us with expertise and shared his knowledge of both the sites, history and culture of his country. We concluded the tour in one of his favourite coffee shops where he introduced us to coconut coffee. Yum! We highly recommend taking a walking tour. Thank you Leo!!
We took part on the tour in the Old Quarter with Leo (Hieu) at the beginning of our trip in Hanoi. He gave us abudant information about the history of the country and the heritage sites. We asked Leo to take us for some food and we enjoyed banh mi sitting on plastic chairs next to the hustling and bustling street, just like the locals. Leo was enthusiastic and friendly and it was an enjoyable tour. I'm very impressed by his communication and language skills. Recommend this to those who are keen to know the history and culture of Vietnam and see from the perspective of locals.
Had a great walking tour with Leo through the old quarter. Leo knew a lot and told us many interesting facts. He showed us everything we wanted to see in Hanoi. His English was very good. I would definitely recommend this walking tour to everyone!
Our tour guides were Vania and Ling were fantastic. Vania was very knowledgeable on all things Hanoi and had fantastic English. Both made us very comfortable and inclusive to our family. They were very helpful in navigating busy streets and finding a great lunch restaurant. We would highly recommend them to our close friends.
We did the Free Walking Old Quater Tour with Ashley, which we remember as a great experience. We were picked up at our accommodation on time and had an informative and great tour in the city of Hanoi. Afterwards we had time for a great talk in a typical local café, where all of our questions were answered and we got a few recommendations for restaurants and other points of interests. So we really can recommend the tour, also for supporting local students!
There really is nothing better than coming to another country and being shown around by a local. Highly recommend this tour. A great introduction to Hanoi with a local guide who answered all our questions and gave us great insight into the history of the old quarter and its surroundings as well some great food and coffee recommendations! I would say do something like this on your first or second day and get a good basis for the city. We went to Ho Lao Prison in the morning and did this tour with our guide Lyna in the afternoon. Doing a private tour with her (my husband and I) was great because I don’t know how you could do it in a group with the noise and traffic plus lack of footpaths! A great experience!
My guide was Lyna, and she was very friendly. She showed me around the Old Quarter and French Quarter. We went into a few buildings (cultural centers, temple, etc…). During the tour, she also helped me to find a tailor as well as introduced me to a popular coffee brand to buy coffee as a souvenir for friends. Lyna kindly answered questions I had about Vietnam. Overall, I would highly recommend the tour to anyone who wants an introduction to Hanoi’s popular neighborhoods.
A fantastic experience to dive into Hanoi! We only had one full day in the city so signed up for a tour of the Old and French Quarters. Our tour guide, Redaria, was incredibly knowledgeable, personable and fun! She gave both a great insight to the history and culture of the city, as well as some of her own personal recommendations. A great way to get to grips to Hanoi!
We enjoyed the walking tour alot. And our tour guide is Linh. She is a friendly, caring and informative tour guide. We learn about the people, culture and history alot through this half day tour.
Today we did the Hanoi War Sites walking tour with Floyd and Phoung. The tour was very educational and we learned a lot. Floyd and Phoung were engaging, kind and fabulous guides!! So grateful to them. Highly recommend this tour and them as guides!!!
Booked this after reading highly about the free walking tour Hanoi by visitors and the experience was amazing 😍 Lyn, our guide was very knowledgeable and kind, explained all the historical significance very aptly. Must take your to know more about Hanoi
We had a wonderful time with Lyn, maybe the best free walking tour we ever did. We covered multiple spots in the Old quarter and the French quarter, but whenever we had questions, Lyn would answer them thoroughly. We learned about Vietnamese history and ways of living in the past and today. We even went for a quick stop in a café famous for egg coffee. All in all a great tour and afternoon!
Our tour guide, Truong Van Quoc aka Freddy, and his friend Phuoc was really knowledgeable and passionate about showing me and family around the Old Quarters and French Quarters. Both of them were really friendly and approachable. They even taught us how to cross the road the “Vietnamese way”. :) We also tried the egg coffee at Cafe Dinh and the green rice ice cream at Kem Trang Tien. They were absolutely marvelous! Freddy also gave us very useful tips on how to immerse in the local Hanoi culture and to take nice photos around Hanoi. Overall, we really enjoyed our walking tour! I highly recommend this tour to all!
Daisy was an incredible guide and provided a friendly and informative walking tour! We learned a lot about both Hanoi and about life in Vietnam - it was a trip highlight for us and a must-do in Hanoi
Had a great experience with Ashley. She took her time to answer all our questions about Vietnamese life. She even took us to a nice local restaurant where we ate the best Pho in Hanoi! At the end Ashley gave us a litttle present as a remembrace of this tour, thank you so much!
We did two tours with Hanoi Free Walking Tours and they were great. We did the food tour with Minh and the old quarter walking tour with Daisy. They were so knowledgeable and kind. We highly recommend these tours and guides!!
We had a very nice afternoon with Tony. He showed us different corners of the old town, which we would have passed. It is an interesting tour that we recommend to anyone who has arrived in Hanoi and then wants to continue exploring the city independently. Tony is very attentive and approaches personal requests ,also gives good advice and the tour is not finished after 3 hours! We were very happy with everything and recommend this tour with Tony.
We were guided by Linh, a spectacular and sensational girl! Walking and moving, like a fish in water, in the streets of Hanoi. Showing us temples that we would not have thought of visiting, getting to know places that you miss in the maelstrom of traffic. She is a young guide, with energy and contagious joy! Definitely, if we had to return, we would call her again! Thank you Linh for everything! Hugs from argentina
