Itinerary
09.00/14.00: Our tour guide will pick you up at your hotel and start the walking tour to discover the charm of the Old & French Quarter.
The Kim Ngân communal house is located on Hang Bac street in Hanoi's old quarter. It is one of three structures built for social gatherings and worship of a legendary figure revered as the inventor of all trades. During the Indochina conflict, the structure was used as a training center for nurses and troops, as well as a lecture hall for teaching Vietnamese Romanized script. From 1954 through 2009, a number of families lived there, but by 2009, the remaining 25 households had been relocated in an effort to restore the structure to a close approximation of its original design. The repair work was carried out by Hoan Kiem District specialists with technical support from Toulouse, France.
Visit the wonderfully renovated Heritage House (also known as "Memorial House") to gain a better sense of the layout of tube-houses. A volunteer will generally accompany you through the many rooms and courtyards, pointing you to the magnificent carvings on the doors and balustrades, as well as specimens of traditional fine arts and handicrafts on display, like ceramics and silk paintings. A calligrapher can be practicing his craft in a corner, while a seamstress might be working on an embroidered painting. Some goods are for sale and could make a unique keepsake. (Please note that you have to cover the entrance fee for the guide also $1/p)
The Bach Ma Temple, erected in the 11th century during the reign of Emperor Ly Thai To, is the oldest of its kind and an important structure in Vietnamese religion. It is permissible to visit the temple; however, appropriate clothes are required to show respect to the monks who live there.
President Ho Chi Minh penned the Declaration of Independence that established the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in late August 1945, inside the house at No. 48 Hang Ngang Street in Hanoi. Historical artifacts and evidence related with President Ho Chi Minh have been preserved.
Hoan Kiem Lake is one of Vietnam's most recognizable lakes, located right in the heart of the Old Quarter. Turtle Tower is surrounded by its peaceful waters and natural beauty. Ngoc Son Temple, an 18th-century pagoda accessible by Huc bridge, a stunning red and wooden footbridge, is located to the side. The shrine honors military commander Tran Hung Dao, who battled off Mongol invaders in the 13th century. Take a walk around the lake and pick a cafe where you can sit and enjoy the wonderful colors of the lake and street performers. This is best enjoyed on weekends between 7 p.m. Friday and 12 p.m. Sunday, when vehicles are prohibited, giving walkers a rare opportunity to dominate the streets. Hoan Kiem Lake, often known as the restored sword lake, is well-known among Vietnamese. According to legend, a turtle bestowed a magical sword on Le Loi, an old warlord, who used it to destroy the invading Chinese Ming dynasty before returning it to its true owner, the dragon king.

St. Joseph's Cathedral is a Catholic church on Nhà Chung Street, in the Hoàn Kiếm District of Hanoi, Vietnam. It is a late 19th-century Gothic Revival (Neo-Gothic style) church that serves as the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hanoi. The cathedral is named after Joseph, the patron saint of Vietnam.

The tour was absolutely amazing and totally worth it! My guides, Disney and Vy, spoke excellent English and introduced me to the cultural and historical background of both the Old Quarter and the French Quarter. They were also very knowledgeable about religious culture and traditions. We even managed to visit some places just before they are about to be demolished due to urban redevelopment. At the end of the tour, they also recommended a few cafés and dessert shops for me to check out. Thank you, Disney and Vy! 💗
I have just had a very enjoyable three hours talking and listening to information from Camille while wandering through the Old Quarter of town. Thank you for sharing the history and stories of life in the neighbourhood Camille. I would hlghly recommend this tour as a way to learn more about the lives of people who live and work here and the history behind the stories.
Pepper was great. He spoke perfect, and knew his was around with many great insights in Old Town and Vietnam in general. I would highly recommend it!
A wonderful morning with Leo and Ngan! Leo and Ngan were fantastic guides who brought Hanoi to life. They showed us the city gate, the beautiful temple in the lake and the cathedral, sharing fascinating stories about the history of Hanoi and Vietnam. What made the tour special was their warmth, enthusiasm and genuine love for their country. They were knowledgeable, engaging and a pleasure to spend time with. We highly recommend Leo and Ngan to anyone visiting Hanoi. A lovely way to discover the city through the eyes of its next generation. Thank you both for a memorable morning!
My guide Kokonut was fantastic—super knowledgeable, friendly, and great at pacing the day to suit what I was interested in seeing. We covered incredible history and culture, stopped for amazing local spots and I felt completely taken care of from start to finish.
Excellent, tour with Tracy, a friendly, informative guide. Highly recommended.
Everything was perfect and very interesting. Our guide Giang (kokonut) adapted to our children's pace. I just would have liked to have more time to talk about Vietnamese life and culture. Thank you very much
I had very good experience with May. She is really nice and informative around Hanoi and it’s really nice to hear the thought of local people. I have no problem about communication and the route. Just need to keep in my mind that this activity requires a lot of walking and Hanoi street might be a little challenging.
I missed calls in the morning so it was canceled but she got hold of and was to it at 3 pm which was very much appreciated and I can put it into words how grateful I was because me missing the calls was my own and she did not have to do that it was very informative and I learnt a lot 100% for everything she even came and picked me up which saved me a lot of hassle
Best guided tour ever. Interesting location but the best was our guide Pamela, very nice always smiling, excellent competence and giving insights in the history of Vietnam, food and culture. Always again. 10/10 ☺️
Great friendly company in Hanoi!
This was a great private walking tour with my guide Kokonut. Kokonat is a second year finance student with excellent command of the English language and great knowledge about Hanoi, its history and the key landmarks we visited. Coordination of the pickup was easy via WhatsApp. He explained the very detail of the sites we visited very well. He was very appreciative of me suffering the high temperatures by searching for a shadow or fan spot often when explaining topics. I highly recommend Kokonut and would book a tour with him again.
Had a great experience with Pamela where she explained everything in great detail and answered all questions, related to Vietname history & historic placed we visited , ,with great patience. I wish her all the very best.
I had a great three-hour walking tour of Old Hanoi with Kokonut. He is a very enthusiastic and friendly guide, and his English is excellent. What I really enjoyed was how much local knowledge he brought to the tour. The history and culture of Hanoi, especially the Vietnamese and Chinese influences, are things you simply wouldn’t understand in the same way without someone who knows the city from the inside. The tour was both interesting and very educational. One of the highlights for me was visiting the house where Ho Chi Minh stayed, as he is someone I personally consider a hero. I also loved seeing the beautiful Chinese temples, which are truly incredible pieces of architectural and cultural heritage. Kokonut made the whole experience much more meaningful than simply walking around and looking at old buildings. His enthusiasm and knowledge really brought Hanoi’s history to life. Highly recommended—a must-do if you want to really understand Old Hanoi.
Our lady guide Albert (yes, she uses a masculine name on purpose) did an amazing job in showing us the Old and French Quarters. In fact, she was standing in for the original guide and she did very well nonetheless.
A great tour and a wonderful tour guide. Very informative and a great way to learn all about Hanoi. The tour guide was very nice and exceptionally knowledgeable.
I had a great morning exploring the old and French quarter with Pamela. She shared lots of interesting history and knowledge about the city. The commutation was excellent and made the day run smoothly. She also kindly provided a food guide to help me find the best spots for the rest of my trip. Would recommend to any first time visitors to Hanoi!
These tours are such a good idea. Very personalised & enthusiastic young guides who love sharing their knowledge with you. May was fun & we shared lots of good stories together. She was happy to accommodate all my needs to have an enjoyable morning.
My guides name was Theo, a young international relations student. It’s my first time in Vietnam. We saw temples, the city streets and I bought a straw hat. My guide is polite, funny and very knowledgable. I highly recommend this tour. Gammon
Great welcome into the city. Pepper was very nice, fun and available, way to go!!
Great experience. The guide named coconut was really insightful
We had “kokonut” as our guide and he was a lovely young man who gave us a history lesson throughout the tour ! He gave us tips when travelling in Hanoi. I would recommend kokonut as your guide ‘bb
May is perfect guide with huge knowledge of history, Hanoi and Vietnam. Highly recommend, thank you
My guide, Pamela, was incredible and her knowledge got me shocked. I truly recommend this free tour.
The tour with Camille was excellent! She explained so much about the history of Hanoi and Vietnam in a very interesting and engaging way. We really enjoyed the tour, as well as her warm hospitality and clear explanations. Thank you, Camille, and good luck for the future! We definitely recommend this tour!
We had a very enjoyable walking tour in the old / French quarters. The tour takes you to several landmarks and we especially appreciated the visit of Hoa Lo prison as Pamela, our tour guide, provided us with many information about the history of the place. Our egg coffee degustation in one of the oldest places of Hanoi serving this specialty (And it was excellent), as well as our stop at the train street were really nice moments too. Pamela is very knowledgeable about Hanoi, she is also a very kind and warm person. The organisation was very smooth. We did this tour at the very beginning of our stay in Hanoi and it's a fabulous introduction to the city. Sharing with a local and more particularly a student is also an experience I highly recommend to travellers.
Always good to connect with someone that actually knows a thing or two about history. Hazel was just what I needed for a trip out - casual and informative while we shared tidbits from our respective countries. She was born here and looked to remain in Hanoi. Her dedication to her own improvement and passion in learning was a good plus point. Kudos to you Hazel, don't lose sight of who you want to be!
The tour was great. Sienna was excellent. She's very passionate about telling the history and culture of vietnam. I appreciate the food recommendations.
Our initial day in Vietnam was truly exceptional, largely thanks to our guide, May, who made our first tour an incredible introduction to exploring the city. We thoroughly enjoyed our discussions about Vietnamese history and culture, and the guidance provided was, overall, very satisfying. We highly recommend this experience.
My tour guide Shizuka really tried to do her best for me. She talked about a lot of Vietnamese history in details and casual conversation as well and never let me get bored for 3.5 hours. I’m glad that she was my tour guide.
Overall an amazing and very mind opening experience for a first timer in Vietnam especially Hanoï. We got to learn quite a few things that we didn't know about the country. Pamela, our tour guide was super nice, very welcoming and knowledgeable. 10/10 would highly recommend booking for a first time visiting Hanoï.
Our Tour guide, Emma, was a wealth of information, as well as cheerful and able to adapt to our needs. She was an absolute delight and made the tour fun and interesting. I would highly recommend Emma and the tour itself
Honestly it was great our tour guide was truly amazing. We got to see and understand a lot of Vietnamese culture and history.
Tracey picked us up at another location punctually... She made us visit the White Horse Temple. The Outlet market and bargained the prices. Went to Train Street. Visited the Cathedral. And drank the famous Vietnamese egg coffee. Really a stunning visit. I recommend Tracy. Young intelligent student.
It was not only a pleasure to have Tracy as my guide today, but also to have the chance to meet her. She is a very bright, informed, super friendly and kind person. She took me to all the important points, explained them throughly and answered all my questions. Time flew by! Super recommend
We had such a great morning exploring Hanoi’s Old Quarter and French Quarter with Tracy. She was warm, enthusiastic, and incredibly knowledgeable, and she gave us a much deeper understanding of the city, its history, architecture, and everyday life. What we particularly enjoyed was the way Tracy mixed historical facts with local stories and little details we would never have noticed on our own. The tour felt relaxed, personal, and very engaging from start to finish for every member of our family. It was the perfect introduction to Hanoi and definitely made us appreciate the city even more. We would highly recommend Tracy to anyone looking for a friendly, interesting, and authentic way to discover Hanoi.
Kokonut (Giang) is our guide. He showed and has given us lovely morning strolling in the old quarter with so many historical details. Eventhough it was raining but he did prepared a plastic rain coat for us. And we did a walk in the rain it was beautiful and very new experience to us.
I had an absolutely brilliant walking tour in Hanoi, and it was easily one of the highlights of my trip. A huge part of that was down to my guide, Hazel, who was fantastic from start to finish. She was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and great company, making the whole experience both informative and genuinely enjoyable. The tour took us around some beautiful temples, historical buildings, and other fascinating spots across the city. Hazel didn’t just explain the history of each place – she brought it all to life by sharing her own personal experiences and local insights, which made everything feel much more authentic. It was clear how passionate she is about Hanoi, and her enthusiasm made the experience even better. One of my favourite parts of the tour was trying an egg chocolate drink for the first time. I’d never heard of it before, but Hazel recommended it, and it was absolutely delicious. It’s those little local touches that made the tour feel so special. As it was a private tour, I had the chance to ask plenty of questions, and Hazel was always happy to chat and share her knowledge. She was kind, fun, engaging, and made the whole experience feel relaxed and personal. It honestly felt less like a guided tour and more like exploring Hanoi with a local friend. If you’re visiting Hanoi and want to learn more about the city’s history and culture while having a great time, I’d highly recommend this walking tour. If you get the chance, make sure you book with Hazel – she was absolutely incredible and made the experience one I’ll always remember.
Hanne was a lovely guide who walked us through the old Quarter streets, took us to a Temple and a few museums. She was very knowledgeable, with a keen passion for art. The tour is really flexible, you can ask to be taken wherever you want to suit your interests
We spend a wonderful half day with our tour guide Albert, who was so kind hearted and knowledgeable. With our two kids we learned a lot about Hanoi, it culture and lots of other things we would not have known about if we would not have been with such a lovely guide. The kids loved her and everything was tailored to our needs. Also the communication before and the pickup were so wonderful and easy. Highly recommend Albert and the whole team- could not have imagined to experience Hanoi old quarters like this! Thank you!
What an amazing tour this was with Albert. Albert greeted us at the hotel we were staying at in the Old Quarter. She is very knowledgeable & was able to answer every question we had! Albert was also very accommodating when we asked if she could change things up and add another stop for us, without any hesitation she was happy to do it. Albert is passionate about her country & town & I love the story behind her name Albert (not her real name) She is friendly, well spoken & definitely knows her history. She took photos for us throughout the tour with her own phone & was kind enough to capture these moments & send them to us. I would 1000% do another tour with her and highly, highly recommend her & if I could give more than 5stars I would. It was actually a real pleasure to have her & deserving of a tip!! When you book ask for Albert! Thank-you Albert you were amazing!
Verh good english and very informative
Hazel was a wonderful guide! She explained some of the historical events of Vietnam that happened in Hanoi and offered us a great insight of the local Vietnamese culture and life. She was really close and friendly, and we recommend her a lot

Hazel was a fantastic guide: professional, knowledgable and extremely welcoming. Hazel took us on an extensive tour of the old quarter and French quarter in Hanoi and we learned so much from her. We enjoyed learning about the white horse temple, how president Ho Chi Minh was helped by a silk business family and all about the French quarter. She answered all of our questions so well and had very extensive knowledge. We had a great time and couldn’t recommend the tour and Hazel enough. Thank you so much!
