Eat Like A Local: Hanoi Street Food Adventure

The breakfast food tour was amazing! An, our guide, walked us through 6 unique breakfast food options at 6 different venues in the Old Quarter of Hanoi. We covered Vietnamese donuts, banh mi rolls, prawn, chicken and pork rice paper rolls, pork and vermicelli noodles in broth, fresh fruit with coconut ice cream and finished off with Vietnamese coffee at the Lake View Cafe, which was an experience in itself! Go do it - well worth both the time and the cost!

Had a great time on our first morning in Vietnam, learning about the culture and tasting local food and drink specialities (my favourites are banh mi and egg coffee!). Our guides were terrific - knowledgeable and attentive, answering our questions and sharing their city. Would highly recommend!

Evelin took us to amazing places that we would never otherwise have found. Although the focus was of course on food, she engaged us with history, family anecdotes and stories about each of the places visited that made the whole experience tie together so well. And she managed to safely navigate us through the chaotic traffic! Foods included banh mi, banh rán (Vietnamese donuts), banh cuon (rolled rice paper stuffed with mushrooms and a delicious broth), ….(I hope I got these right Evelin?)…selected fresh seasonal fruit from a street vendor, a street corner beer, choice of pho or rice noodle and pork in a clear broth, dessert of either icecream with sticky rice or seasonal tropical fruit salad. All this was then topped off with a decadent egg coffee made at the table! The food was varied and delicious! Evelin was engaging and highly knowledgable. She made sure to ask first whether any members of the group had particular dietary requirements. I couldn’t recommend this tour highly enough!

Cuong was an amazing guide! He gave us a personal tour of the Old Quarter, including multiple stops for local food and drink as well as in-depth look at local history, culture and living conditions. Very enjoyable 4 hours!

Fantastic streetfood adventure with An. Fun, knowledgeable and helpful guide. I ended up the only one on the tour so got a great tour for one. Food is amazing, many in ittle hidden spots. Great experience with great guide. Don't eat too much before the tour as plenty if food and drinks!

A was great, friendly, knowledgeable and fun. She sent a great walking pace so we could talk and walk at the same time, her knowledge of the streets and alleyways and favorite food stops was fantastic. An checked with us at the beginning of the tour if we had food allergies and what we liked / didn’t like and ordered for us at each stop - and nailed it. Gave us the experience we were hoping for and more. An was a fantastic guide, and the foodie tour was amazing and yum

We had a wonderful experience with Kong as he showed us so many different foods and sights in the old quarter. His insights, excellent food choices and humor were exceptional!

What a wonderful experience! Our guide Kong was informative, kind, knowledgeable and fun! He took us for delicious food as well as giving us an insight into daily Hanoi life in the Old Quarter. He was sensitive to our needs (sadly having to drink more beer instead of delicious coffee since we did the evening tour) and was friendly and genuine with the owners and staff at the restaurants and kiosks we visited. He made our tour special and very memorable!

US 29 worth every cent. So much food we experienced, also beer, soft drink and the egg coffee. All the food was excellent and from a very traditional setting. Evelin gave us a great tour of the street food spots in Hanoi! It was a great way to spend my first evening in Vietnam. We ate a range of different foods (starters/mains/ desserts) that were delicious. Would definitely recommend this to fellow travellers.

I enjoyed this food tour with my guide An. She was flexible and happy to customise the list of places to visit, based on my requests. That said, i was a solo participant, it will be harder for her to do that for a group. Besides food information, An also shared historical information about Hanoi and the places we visited and provided some practical tips on shopping and phew suggestions on things to do. Evelyn was just superb her English was amazing and she was very informative and fun. We got to try food and drinks that we would not normally know about I would highly recommend it.

From the moment I met Evelin she was a delight. Her easy going personality makes you feel like you're with an old trusted friend. She was vigilant keeping me safe out of harms way which allowed me to feel free to just enjoy the hustle and bustle of this beautiful city. Evelin was always a step ahead ensuring my comfort. Her knowledge of the city made it a great introduction to Hanoi. I had questions about everything and she happily answered. Walking from one location to the next she was very informative. The food spots were great but my favourite was the Banh Cuon. Having the salted coffee sitting high above the busyness was a perfect way to end the evying overlook this beautiful city. The whole experience was fantastic would highly recommend to anyone if coming to Vietnam for the first time. Our beautiful guide Ninh, was so full of knowledge not just regarding food which was exceptional but the history. He took us to places we would never dream of entering he informed us on how to cross the street, which can be a challenge about what is a good place to have local cuisine. Ninh was knowledgeable- explained the food - it's history - and provided insights into the culture and the city that we appreciated. We know we visited small restaurants and eateries that we would never have found on our own - it was truly local and authentic.

Evelin, my guide, was an absolute delight. I was incredibly lucky to find myself as the only guest signed up for the morning tour and she instantly made me feel like we were firm friends out for a fun morning together. The vendors she visits all obviously enjoy her visits as they treated us with great friendliness and efficiency. The food was fantastic - she took me to all of the places I was too timid to try travelling solo, and she checked in with me along the way about my comfort and what I wanted to do next. There was a great mix of history, local knowledge and great local food shared! I would highly recommend to anyone else who is finding themselves landed in chaotic Hanoi and wanting a friendly face to introduce them to getting around and what to eat. She left me feeling much more confident about trying new things and just getting around in Hanoi by myself. Thank you so much Evelin!

The food tour was also a city tour! I gotta see the different streets and the meaning behind them by my guide San Tan! The food recommended are delicious and absolutely suited for the international stomachs. I loved the Bun Cha, Banh Cuon and actually all of them haha. It ends with egg coffee with a lake view! Loved it!

The tour with San was perfect! We really loved the tour and would absolutely recommend to do it :) San speaks english fluently and was very kind, he told us alot about the local culture and took us to hidden local gems.

We met San in the early afternoon and he was so friendly and welcoming. He really loves his work and he has such a great relationship with all the people in each place that you feel like a local. The food was great but more than that it’s all of the great local knowledge he shares as you wander through the streets. So many hidden fabulous places we may never have found or perhaps not had the courage to go to by ourselves.

Ninh was great! He was very knowledgeable, shared the local stories and patiently showed us around.

Can’t recommend this Food Tour highly enough. Ninh was a friendly and engaging host with great local knowledge. The food was amazing and there was plenty of it, so start with an empty stomach. Part cultural and part gastronomical experience. Great Night!
