Four Seasons Hotel Hangzhou At West Lake

The hotel is special in terms of location and the feel of the property itself — it transports you into a beautiful Chinese palace dynasty aesthetic, which was an amazing change of pace coming from Shanghai and wanting to experience a different side of China. Service was fantastic. The team went out of its way to help — the young guy at reception was excellent. They even called us back to say we’d forgotten 400 USD in our safe. Just imagine that happening in Europe. My only real recommendation is for the food options to be improved, with more choices for international diners. Even the room service menu should have more variety and better quality — we struggled with the food throughout our stay. The rooms were fantastic with no issues, and the property itself was gorgeous. Unfortunately, there was construction happening in the lobby, which would have been good to know about prior to booking — that view is normally gorgeous, as it faces the outdoor area right as you step into the hotel, so hopefully they finish it soon. The other downside is that the hotel only has an indoor pool, no outdoor option — though the indoor pool itself was great.

When famous travelers like Ibn Battuta or Marco Polo visited Hangzhou and shores of West lake there was no Four Seasons built yet. What a shame. Im sure they would have loved it thoroughly and Im happy that when I visited West lake, Four Seasons was here. Hotel is located on a prime spot right on the lakeshore. All the attractions are accessible by walking including fantastic evening show. Just get your camera and enjoy all West lake offers. The resort is a sprawling property with beautiful gardens and has several jogging trails ( you have a small map describing them all in the room). It is a low rise building set in the middle of all the greenery. Lobby is spacious, check in super fast and rooms come will all amenities you can imagine. There are not any weak points. We traveled with kids and got interconnecting room. Breakfast are served in ground floor and these were one of the best I have ever had. If you feel tired there is spa as well as indoor and outdoor pool. My recommendation is to stay here at least 2 nights to have time and space to appreciate this beautiful property. Depending on traffic the hotel is approximately 40mins from train station.

My second visit this time. I found everything thing dropped in standard. 1. I don't expect to see guest wearing sleeping pajamas and room slippers to breakfast in this beautiful hotel. 2. I found the staffs are quite inexperienced. But they are polite. 3. What you paid for is not proportional to the service, leisure, comfort you received. 4. There was an event during my stay. The traffic at the hotel main entrance was a mess. No staff helped with it.

First, a special thank you to Aria from the reservations team. She and her colleagues went above and beyond to help us secure the exact room my wife had hoped for. It was clear that real care and effort went into making it happen. We were also pleasantly surprised by the thoughtful welcome snacks and the handwritten welcome letters prepared for our family. Those small touches meant a lot and immediately made us feel at home. Second, every interaction we had—from the front desk to the concierge and bell team—was warm and genuinely pleasant. Everyone we encountered was helpful, attentive, and professional, which made our stay smooth and comfortable from start to finish. Third, the dining experiences were truly exceptional. From the in-suite breakfast to dinner at Jin Sha Restaurant, the food was impeccable and the service was outstanding. Every meal felt carefully prepared and beautifully presented, making each dining moment something we looked forward to. Lastly, our room was simply amazing. Before arriving, we had come across some mixed online reviews suggesting the property might feel outdated or not worth the price. However, our own experience could not have been more different. This was easily the best hotel stay we have had in China in recent years, and we have stayed at several upscale properties across different cities. The atmosphere, service, and overall experience exceeded our expectations. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for the care and hospitality you showed my family. It truly made our visit to Hangzhou special.
