Itinerary
Skip-the-lines in front of the museum and be amazed by the works of art. See wax figures from showbiz, culture, politics and history during your visit to Hamburg's Panoptikum. Bring your camera and have your picture taken with actress Angelina Jolie, German chancellor Angela Merkel or empress Sisi as you explore the wax museum's grounds. The Panoptikum is the oldest wax museum in Germany, looking back on more than 130 years of history displaying historical wax figures, artists and politicians, waxworks of celebrities and megastars as well as athletes and popular contemporaries. Providing great entertainment for young and old, the waxworks at the Panoptikum are upheld with devotion and care. A visit to the museum takes on average around 45 minutes up an hour -- guests are welcome to stay as long as they wish to explore the waxworks. A audio-guide is available in English and German, providing background information, music and anecdotes about the lifelike wax figures you walk past. A visit of the Panoptikum is suitable for all ages and very recommendable for children.

Excellent value for money and very well laid out with friendly staff, they offer an audio guide in many languages, it’s only small but for the price you cannot complain.
This is so bad it’s great They’ve placed Trump giving Barack Obama the thumbs up, Elvis is a Vampire, the Beatles as you’ve never seen them & is that the Australian Breakdancer? I lived it.
At a price way below Madame Tussauds in the UK, this historic waxworks, just off the (in)famous Reeperbahn is well worth a look. The waxworks vary from genuinely impressive (Ed Sheeran, Queen Elizabeth, Trump, Churchill, Marilyn and Elvis) to a bit iffy (notably The Beatles and Madonna). There are some grotesques exhibits - the three deformed guys playing cards were interesting, as is the chamber of horrors behind the curtain. You can borrow a mobile phone-sized device which gives you a commentary in English of each figure. Definitely worth a look.
This was a fun activity, there were a number of well known historic, American, and yes German figures. Although the museum is small in size there is quite a few interesting pieces. Definitely Recommend if you have some spare time!
The Panoptikum is worth a visit. For children, there was a puzzle tour through the premises. Price is completely fine.
The staff were all very nice and helpful, especially the lady at ticket validation, a classic Hamburg original, super sweet.
A nice wax museum right on the Reeperbahn. Many figures are depicted very lifelike. Something from many eras. The staff members are very funny and friendly.
Unfortunately I could not participate in every attraction in a wheelchair
A very beautiful, well-maintained wax museum. Great figures, pleasant ambiance. We will very gladly come back again. Of course we will recommend the Panoptikum.
We were in Hamburg for a concert. During our bus tour and visit of the Reeperbahn we were in the Panoptikum. So the visit was planned and the visit was worth every penny! Modern - nostalgic - worth seeing!
Small but fine. Nicely portrayed.
We stayed as a family (4 adults) at short notice on December 25 at the Panopticikum. The online ticket booking was absolutely problem-free, the payment methods sufficient (especially also options without using PayPal). After arriving in Hamburg, the location was quite easy to find and we were looking forward to our first visit to a waxworks cabinet. Unfortunately, the audio guides, which can be rented free of charge on site, had been affected by technical problems and some explanatory texts stopped after just a few minutes. With the audio guide on the mobile phone (QR code) it worked absolutely flawlessly. We all thought the figures were quite well met, but would have been happy (to remember more compliant) presentation. Nevertheless, the price of admission is reasonable in relation to the cost of the exhibition and production of the figures. With children, I rather do not recommend the exhibition, as I think it is designed for adult and adolescent visitors. You should plan the duration of the visit with about 1.5 to 2 hours.
The panoptic is really fun and is really recommended! It is suitable for every age group and definitely worth the visit.
Really fun experience! The museum is very small and most of the wax figures are for the older side, which resulted in them not being very good- but this made it very much fun! A place to see if you want a good laugher. The staff was very, very good, but an experience that takes about 30 minutes for us.
Cancellation through this provider is not possible. Will buy tickets directly from the attraction in the future. The Panoptikom is small but nice and is a nice excursion.
As a native of Hamburg, the Panopticon on St. Pauli is more than just a waxworks cabinet for me – it is a piece of childhood, a piece of home and a piece of the past that has held its own to this day. I still remember walking around the rooms wide-eyed as a child. At the time, it was all even more exciting, a bit scary maybe, but also fascinating. Today, many years later, I visited the Panoptic again – and I was surprised how familiar it still feels. What I am particularly pleased about: The family business still exists today. Since its founding in 1879, the Panoptikum has been run by the fifth generation – and you can feel it. It has not been smooth-ironed or artificially spiced up like some modern museums, but continued with heart and consistency. A real Hamburg original. Of course, not every wax figure is a masterpiece. Some don’t seem entirely convincing in their presentation or proportion – especially older figures have visibly passed their time. But that's exactly what makes the charm: You can see the history, the development – and the effort that goes into everything. And then there are figures who really take your breath away, so detailed and true to life they are. You stand in front of it and think, “Wonderful, that was really successful!” The tour is not huge, but varied. Whether historical figures, musicians, politicians or actors – the mix has been successful. And the surroundings are also right: friendly staff, a pleasant atmosphere and no overflowing tourist trap, but a place where you feel welcome. For me, the visit was beautiful – on many levels: nostalgic, informative and simply beneficial. It is nice to see that the Panoptica is still around, that it has survived the change on St. Pauli and that it continues to be run with love. All I can say is: If you want to experience Hamburg, not only superficially, but with a little depth and history, you should pay a visit to the Panoptikum. Especially for Hamburgers with memories of earlier times, it is a small but significant place – familiar, consistent and somehow comforting.
Price okay. But we were outside again after about 30min. Some figures are very old, some do not correspond to the "original people" and already look different. We were a little disappointed. Staff were very friendly.
We had a super good experience! It was interesting and intelligent - not least the detail with Prs. Obama’s position relative to Trump 😉 Very friendly staff and management. We felt really comfortable and can only recommend a visit.
Hamburg is quite nice in the city centre, but only one of many big cities. The railway station region is disgusting. Speicherstadt and Hafen are interesting.
Small and fine waxwork museum. Worth a visit and accordingly also the ticket prices, recommended if you like me have never been to a waxwork museum.:)
It was a perfect museum, where the entrance fee was still normal. There were some figures, which I did not know existed (German acquaintances)
A very old man. Similarity...not always. And very small. Not recommended... too bad..
We took a lot of pictures. Very nice to look at. Worth going there. You should definitely book tickets online beforehand so you don't have to wait in line forever
You can do it. Some figures are not quite as recognizable. Nevertheless, we had a lot of fun and the price-performance ratio is still right....
Worthwhile,The story Hamburg is fantastically portrayed and told by actors in different rooms.Slightly creepy, children under 12 I would not necessarily take with hun
Ein kleines nettes Wachsfigurenkabinett mit einigen echt gelungenen Exponaten. Einige waren etwas weniger gelungen aber trotzdem sehr nett
A very nice and interesting museum. It is really impressive how faithful the figures look. The Panopikum is definitely worth a visit.
The whole thing belongs to "refurbished" and dusted. The wax figures look similar yes but ...... ! We were disappointed 😞
It is a small wax museum with many German famous personalities. The quality of the dolls is slightly different. Some look really good and some are far away. There are 3 small floors and we spent almost 1 hour in there. We were a family of 5 apart 2 adults and 3 children - of which the 2 were large/almost adults and the last 10.
Very great and manageable exhibition on 3 floors. Especially recommended in bad weather. Impressive how real you can recreate everything.
It is a very manageable exhibition and some of the figures were well made. Unfortunately, we expected more and were disappointed. We would not visit it again or recommend it.
The Panoptikum is a small but lovely wax figure museum, which is ideal for passing an hour or two. It is really lovingly designed and we personally really liked the video of how the heads are made. Of course, it is no comparison to the well-known Madame T. museums, but it is definitely not as crowded and is much more lovingly and homely designed. We visited this as a family with small children and were not disappointed for the small price! We would gladly go again ☺️
The Panoptikum in Hamburg is undoubtedly a place to visit when exploring the Hanseatic city. Despite a slight crowding during my visit, the overall experience was beautiful and fascinating. I've had the pleasure of visiting the Panopticon twice, and both times it was an absolute highlight of my trip. The variety of wax figures and the attention to detail are impressive, even for someone like me who has visited other wax museums. The price-performance ratio is good. My tip for future visitors would be to visit the Panopticon preferably during the week to avoid the crowds. This gives you more peace and space to admire the figures, take photos and immerse yourself in the fascinating scenes. And you should plan it for a “rainy day”. Special praise goes to the friendly staff at the Panopticon, who do an excellent job. Especially on March 23, 2024, when I visited the Panopticon, they created a warm and welcoming atmosphere as soon as I entered, which made my visit even more pleasant. All in all, I can fully recommend the Panoptikum in Hamburg. It is a unique attraction worth exploring and offers an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.
Unfortunately, it was a bit disappointing, most of the figures only looked somewhat similar to the originals. It's clear that you can't expect Madame Tussauds here (although not all of the figures there look great either), simply because of the budget. We still had fun, but one figure that really impressed us was Ed Sheeran. The somewhat "creepy" medical exhibits were also something you don't see very often. It must also be said that the price is reasonable, we were here for about 45/50 minutes.
Very cozy and exciting Was down there with my wife and we both thought it was cool, many of the characters look realistic.
Small but cosy museum. The dolls are not very well made compared to so many other wax museums and so it is predominantly German personalities that we could not relate to - a slightly disappointing experience unfortunately
Absolute cult on the neighborhood in Hamburg. You must have seen that. Ha certainly not the scope and quality that one "otherwise" expects and perhaps knows from a waxwork cabinet. But small and fine and with great attention to detail. Highly recommended.
You can't complain for the price. The wax figures are well made. Only the older ones don’t look real, but could also be sold as a rarity 😀 The only thing I didn’t think was that we bought tickets online and still had to queue again at the ticket office to exchange them for a paper ticket. Here it would be nice if the digital were sufficient and thus resources were saved at the same time 😁
We did not expect so much, so it was really a good experience. Of course a little crowded in the main holiday, but definitely worth a visit. Great figures in German history. Can be recommended
Was so disappointed, very small, seems worn and several of the characters were not executed so they looked like the people they had, and it was some of the newer characters. Had expected it was at the height of what is in Berlin but miles away. spent almost 1 hour
Viele Künstler waren sehr gut und sehr realistisch dargestellt, das man dachte sie könnten zum leben erwecken.
Pretty outstanding little wax museum. Many older ‘models’ and most German. Signs and audio guide in German only. Takes about 1 h.
The wax museum is very nicely made and worthwhile. However, many figures were blocked off with safety rope or not accessible at all by bars. It was not possible to take selfies. Few figures were free and possible to take selfies. There were also several stations where it was shown how the figures are created with films and sculptures. All figures looked very lifelike except for one: DANIEL RADCLIFFE aka Harry Potter. As a great Potterhead, I was really disappointed. In the Marco Polo guidebook, the character was even advertised.
A nice trip. Some characters are really to be confused, others leave you something to be desired. Entertaining, entertaining, recommended.
Price was very good, Waiting time acceptable for the holidays, amazing that it was so big, I would visit again
The panoptic, is always worth a visit. All the characters look real. Attention to detail. A must for everyone! I also took a nice selfie especially with My Idol Jan Fedder. And all at a family-friendly price! I can only recommend it ☺️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
A visit to the Panoptikum on the Reeperbahn is worthwhile. The visit was entertaining, interesting and humorous. The wax figures quickly captivate you - whether it's the image of a modern current person or an excursion into the past. I highly recommend a visit here!
We used a rainy day to look at the waxworks cabinet. Luckily we didn't have to wait long. We were surprised by the size, more rooms than we thought. Some models can be seen by age, they are not as realistic as the newer models. Nevertheless, everything is very informative.
