This is worth investing in if you'll be doing a few tourist type visits to various places in Hamburg. Don't buy it if you're only using it for travel, it's cheaper to invest in an all day travel ticket.
We bought the Hamburg Card for 5 days and for us it was a fail. No value for money, not accepted "everywhere" for example at the "Port des Lumières" = no reduction. Besides that we found that the Hamburg Tourist info at the HBF was terrible: unfriendly and rude female person in charge. We speak fluent German, so no language barrier can be the excuse for her nasty, uncaring , not helpful ... attitude. Advice: don't buy the Hamburg Card, but a card for public transport! Check the many discounts you can get without Hamburg Card for example "students, seniors etc" price reductions. Hamburg Card & Hamburg Tourist info HBF = no thank you, Nein Danke, non merci 🙉🙈🙊
I made my first visit to Hamburg in April 2025 to see old friends and tour the city solo. I pre-bought the Hamburg Card online before departing, and had a printout in my pocket and a QR code on the app too. For a 4 day visit it was around $55 (due to the weak Dollar at this date). I got a few Euros discount at each museum I visited, saving me $12. I didn't bother with the dining and tour extras as I was going to events and locations that were not mainstream city center ones. It was very confusing to buy as it kept adding 2 children to the ticket, and I was going solo. For some unknown reason, it adds 2 children to the card regardless of how many people you book for and the price is the same. Quite pointless really, this feature should be removed. I expected to need the card to access the S-Bahn station when I travelled from the airport to my hotel in the city, but there is no need to scan it getting in or out of an S-Bahn station, and there are NO ticket inspectors anywhere on the S-Bahn. In fact, I never had it checked once, so next time I visit Hamburg I won't get one and will simply use the S-Bahn for free. I took S-Bahn journeys multiple times a day, some over an hour each way, and had no need to show it to anyone, day or night, over a long weekend. It wasn't as much use as I thought it would be, but it may suit your travel plans better than it did mine.
Absolutely useless for seniors who get the same discounts without the card in most places. We were not able to use it at all so a complete waste of money. Also the app is hard to negotiate and unclear.
Alright I guess. Only worth the money if you plan to travel on the subway at least three times a day. The offers for restaurants and shops are so modest that it's hardly worth taking out the card. For museums it is not unusual for the discount to be around a euro per person. Quite different from city cards where museums are half off or free. I would gladly pay €5 per day more if the discounts were much better. Also; consider having Heide or Hansa Park in the offer.
At the places we went it was'nt possible to get percentage off the entrance prices. We enjoyed walking round Hamburg and had nu use of the free public travelling.
I do not recommend for families and generally it is good only for people who do not like to calculate their expenses. We bought the Hamburg card as it promised to have discounts on many touristic attractions and free public transport. We bought a family card and paid 20 euro more compared to the group public transport card (HVV) for the same time. So, we expected to have at least 10 euro discount from the attractions. Finally, we realised that almost all the touristic spots offer family card which is much cheaper than the discount given by the Hamburg card. For example, the Reiner Abicht tickets for a river cruise cost 64 for 2 adults and 2 kids with the Hamburg card , and 60euro just the family ticket without any card. And if you buy the same ticket online, it is 50 euro for a family… The same with the other places we visited….,so you do not need the Hamburg card if you are with your family here, just look for the family offers and take the HVV family transport card!!!
We bought a group card for 4 for 3 days and it was great value at around £43. A bug in the sustem meant we couldn't buy on line as it wouldn't accept a UK postcode but it was easyto purchase at the airport. Note: You don't actually get a card - just a single piece of paper with a barcode on it. It gave us free transport to and from the airport as well free transport in Central Hamburg. It works on a trust basis and we were never asked to show our 'card'. We used it all the time during our stay. Another benefit is it gives you discount to attarctiuons although some will give you a better discount if you buy online . It is very good value
By using it you have not to worry about moving through the town by any kind of public transport, be it a bus or Underground. Moreover, by presenting it I have got some discount in a couple of museums and a church.
The best discount we got with the card was for the 3 day art museums pass, 10 euros discount for 2 persons which was great because we mostly visited art museums while in Hamburg.
Not sure if the person at the Tourist office gave me the wrong card or what. However, what he gave me was a transit card and not a card to get into the various museums which is what I thought I was getting.
By far the least expensive way to get around Hamburg and has the additional benefit of dropping the price of entry to many of the local sites worth seeing.
Disappointed with this card. Most of the attractions in Hamburg are in walking distance, so if you are only staying for a day or so, you don’t get any value out of the card. Most of the discounts on the attractions we visited, averaged out at about €1.00 per attraction. We only caught the U Bahn for 1 section and so we were actually out of pocket €5.00 each, after one day with the Hamburg card. I could see it saving you money if you were staying 5 or 6 days, but if you are only in Hamburg for a day or 2, I wouldn’t bother buying it.
Misleading to say this card provide inclusive access to local museums but found out this card only provides a discount of 1EURO. Waste of time and money. Stay away from this tourist trap.
We bought a 4 day group card that allowed 4 adults to use all public transport for €60. If I had realised it was just a QR code that needed printing I would have bought online. Once there you just need this with you in case its checked but there are no ticket barriers so you can just walk on/off the transport. Easy way to get to/from the airport. Also worth using the harbour ferry as a different way of seeing things. we also used the discount for a museum. Brilliant!
Prepare your trip in advance and profit the most all discounts for transports, museums and other offers. You may use the guide and programme your trip in advance
WHEN YOU BUY THROUGH THIS VENUE...YOU MUST BE AWARE THAT YOU HAVE TO FIND YOUR WAY TO THE DESIGNATED TICKET AGENCY TO EXCHANGE YOUR VOUCHER FOR THE CARD. If you are not staying near the ticket agency, this proves to be a problem if you unfamiliar with the town and have limited visitation time. We never were able to get to the agency to exchange our voucher. Read the fine print. For us it was very frustrating. This is not the only thing we lost money on using this venue. We were disappointed.
This is a must for everyone visiting Hamburg, so convenient for buses trains, ferry also discount into places
Got to hamburg for 4 days, bout the hamburg card at the airport and did not spend more money for any drive till leaving hamburg, other then that the card gave discount for almost all attractions.
<p>Excellent experience,enjoyed every moment of it.</p>
<p>Did not use it. You had to go across town from where we were to redeem the voucher. Not a good purchase. </p>
<p>Worth it if you use a lot of public transportation, but not much of a value for admission to museums and other attractions. Also a big pain to have to pick it up at Tourist Information office at Central RR station. Why couldn't the card be waiting for us at our Hotel?</p>
<p>Actually pretty worthless. Not the card's fault. It is just that there apparently is no payment required for riding public transportation in Hamburg. There are machines to buy tickets but no one asks for tickets, you just get on and ride. Saw very few tickets being purchased.</p>
<p>Quality and value exceptional. Will continue to use your service wherever we travel.</p>
<p>great, useful, I saved money in museums, transportation, canal cruise, I loved it</p>
<p>Nothing wrong with the Hamburg Card except the information provided on your website is out of date. We arrived in Hamburg at 4 pm at the cruise terminal and proceeded to the tourist office at 6pm to pick up our card.Website says card is valid for 1 day and from 6pm the day before. This is not correct. Now from 6am to 6am the following day!</p>
<p>Good value, good price. The Hamburg Card gave me a discount on most of the attractions, I visited.</p>
<p>Hamburg is truly beautiful and perfect for a mini city break. The train service is excellent and not too hard too use. ALTHOUGH the Hamburg card isnt really that good value for money, firstly as the fares for the trains arnt that expensive and also i saw NO-ONE over the 4 days ever buy a ticket, and saw no ticket collectors working on the trains, and also unlike London there were no ticket gates etc. In hindside we could have probably travelled around the whole time, like the local Germans clearly do without playing a penny!<br/> We stayed at Sofitel and it was truly beautiful! <br/> Food and places to eat were nice., although the locals werent overly polite. Id def. recommend the boat trips and some time at the Harbour. The roofless bus, although good for getting around, theres not really many ''sights'' in Hamburg that needed pointing out</p>
Although a lot can be done walking, the card enables you to visit some more distant locations. Worth the money.
A better service on board where the waiter served ALL guests.
One should already consider in advance whether one really needs the ticket; we received a 10 percent discount on the musical, so it was worth it, however, they did not check at the entrance whether one even had the ticket. The organization of this ticket is really tedious; the app did not work, so we wanted to get the ticket at the airport to use it right away to take public transport to the hotel. The information booth was closed in the middle of the afternoon, however, you can no longer buy it there either. At the airport, you have to go to the hvv terminals and purchase the tickets there: however, they only have day tickets, and we would have needed 4 days, so it would have been more expensive. And now comes the best part: at these terminals, you can only pay with a prepaid card or with small bills in cash; our machine only accepted $10 bills. We had two $100 bills in cash, a credit card, and a debit card, and we could not purchase a ticket, and we were not the only ones who experienced this; I have really never encountered anything like this before. Yesterday, we had the same issue again with $5 and $10 bills!! We are still here for 2 more days and are now forgoing it!
I wouldn't go back, nice, but unfortunately people would stop in the middle for a long time and you couldn't get through, in my opinion it should be a little more smooth
For me, this card was completely pointless. Some were either closed or connected with such a time ticket, which unfortunately was no longer bookable at that time. In addition, you should click on the website of the attractions to find out what the entrance etc. costs. It would be better to know in the card how much it would cost. Visited only a few attractions for 2 days and thus saved only about 5 €. My tip, first check prices then buy HamburgCard.
Good discounts, also additionally bookable with hvv public transport card. With Harbour Love Update, free visit to the museum ship and free 1-hour harbour tour included. Worth it!
The counter at Hamburg Airport was closed at 10am on Saturday. We were unable to order the Hamburg Card in the app beforehand.
Beautiful town, lots of nice big shops and good restaurants. Culture is of paramount importance to Hamburg. The recently opened shopping centre near the harbour is worth a visit in itself. With canal boats you can explore the whole area.
Feed compounds to get in somewhere without thinking. Unfortunately without discount at Hagenbeck Zoo, very disappointing.
Super unfortunate that you only after spending money on buying a Hamburg Card get to know that you have to print the ticket in paper (Stone Age Germany) and that they do not accept mobile tickets. A little hard when you're on vacation. It's probably the few that have brought a printer
I can't recommend the Hamburg-Card because it usually has little point for families unless you need special things that are only discounted with it. In most museums there are family tickets and a discount accordingly only for boat trips or fairy lights is worth the family card for discount. Especially if you only want to drive in one day or two it is worthwhile to book a day ticket for the adults with children up to 14 years old, as the children are currently included there. What we definitely do not recommend is to travel with the public transport outside the S-Bahn network. The Regios and S-Bahn trains run so unreliably that we finally had to use an Uber for 45€. On the way out we were so late that we missed our lead. The Hamburg Card was then so inflexible because we wanted to book a second day that this was not possible to book.
For tourists who do not want to torment themselves through Hamburg's traffic in a motorized way, the Hamburg Card is an absolute must. You can buy them online or at a tourist information office. A group ticket for up to five people is worthwhile from just two people. Included is the use of public transport including the Elbe ferries, discounted admission to many sights and a lower price in participating restaurants.
We were 5 days in Hamburg and could explore Hamburg for us around the clock. Super easy and fast from A to B without annoying parking search. Recommendation for all major cities!
We (2 adults and 1 child 11 years) have booked the Hamburg Card online in advance for our holiday in Hamburg. Booking was super easy. Likewise, the use of the card was no problem anywhere. All top.
Panik City - Hamburg Dungeon - Dance of the Vampires - Reeperbahn - Fish Market - Harbour Shipping - Goblin City (for children) - everything has delighted. All attractions stand for Hamburg. Aber mein Highlight war Panik City. Hamburg we will be back!!!
I booked a travel package for my son and me with train tickets. When the train tickets were sent to me online, the seat reservations for the return trip were missing. After several attempts to contact the service team by phone and a long wait on hold, I was informed that I had to take care of the seat myself and go to a DB travel center. Supposedly there is nothing more I can do with Hamburg Tourism. During another phone call with another service employee, I was told the same thing, but on the grounds that seat reservation by Hamburg Tourism is after all a voluntary service, which is also noted on the website. Very poor service! I could have booked at the travel center. I am curious to see if the hotel voucher and Hamburg card will be delivered by the Post Office as promised.
We bought the card for 5 days for two people, which was currently around 86 euros. It was worth it for us, the group day ticket would have been more expensive. We then based our activities on the Hamburg Card, but you have to remember that Hamburg certainly offers other great activities too. It bothered me a little that not every provider asked if you had a HC, sometimes you had to enter your details twice.
We purchased a group card online, as it could best pay off, already at 2 participants - price: 50€ for 3 days. Already at the first 1st attraction (sailing tour on Alster) we ran in challenges: the described/promised discount, we could not utilize, allegedly because it only applied for a narrow number of trips. This seemed quite vaguely described. The 2nd round was combined tickets for city and harbour trips. Via the app a price of 28,50€/person was shown. It also emerged that tickets could be purchased directly on the bus/boat. When addressing the first driver, the result was that he probably did not know about this scheme. I then called the provider (Hamburg Tourist Office), who initially allegedly could not confirm this price, but after a while still found it. The driver in the next bus was presented by the provider for this and everything seemed to be OK. He was simply unable to sell the tickets with the discount, and another phone call had to be held. We ended up paying 36€/person, and the driver compensated for the difference with cash. This took 15-20 min., to irritation for the other guests. Conclusion: THINK ABOUT IT! Just consider free public transportation.
It is worthwhile if you use the associated discounts, for example the museums, museum ships, or make an annotated harbour tour or even during Alster shipping. Also at the planetarium. So inform in advance and plan what you want to see and do. If you don't want to visit many tourist places, you may be better supplied with the normal day tickets of the transport companies and now also with the Germany ticket, especially since you can only use the Hamburg Card for 5 days.
With the Hamburg Card, you can easily use all means of transport (cheaper for group use), plus you get a price discount at a lot of attractions!
That's a great thing, actually. Connected to local transport very great. But, to advertise with the Hagenbeck Zoo, which has not been there for some time, is very annoying.
