Reviews
My experienced of the tour was good. The Island scenery is breath taking and the visit to the caves awesome. We had Kevin Hung as our tour guide. He was experienced, friendly and very helpful. The food was good on the boat and the staff very friendly and professional. Our room was spacious, but dated. A very big let down was the onsuite. The toilet pipe was broken and dripped water, which caused the floor to be wet and slippery. The onsuite desperately needed maintenance and a good clean. Overall if you are on a budget then this is great value for money. If you are after a little luxury, pay more.
I had a really good experience on La pandora. The tour guide ‘Cody’ was very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. It was a fun tour because of him. The kayaking activity is a must try.
It took us 45 minutes to the Cruise from the pick up point. We were worried, but once we were there on the Cruise, it was just amazing. They deserved five course mail in the afternoon. An excellent dinner in the evening and an excellent branch in the morning the next day. In between we did kayaking swimming and travel through the caves. Our guide, Kevin was excellent. He helped us a lot when my wife fell ill because of seafood allergy. The staffs on the Cruise was very supportive. We were lucky to have excellent people with us on the cruise.
coddy is amazing tour guide, he has a very good future and best of luck to him. The cruise is nice but definitely can be improved with little more fun activities, to include some stuff like towels in the room, hot water to name a few. overall its a good experience. the overall staff is so amazing, extremely polite and helpful.
Incredible place to see. One of the most beautifull experience. The landscape is incredible. Our guide Hung and staff have a great english and helpfull. The boat Pandora is kind of old and need renovation, but the staff are really great and the food as well. We love the experience and is the top atration on our trip.
We loved the La Pandora Cruise. The food, staff and the organisation were perfect, along side with our tour guide Hung Kevin. We enjoyed every bit of it and would recommend it to everyone!
We had the best time at La Pandora Cruise. Our tour guide Hung Kevin was extremely helpfull and kind, the organisation was spotless, as well as the boat, food, staff.. we recommend it wholeheartedly!
We have been two days, great experience I would like to recomed, this boat has great staff, especially Hung/Kevin he organized everithing profesionally, with a mild humor, food was so tasty we enjoyed a lot
The Halong Bay Cruise we went to was so worth it! Our tour guide Hung (Kevin) was well organized, helpfull and amusing, staff were really friendly, food was delicious. Such a memorable experience, would recommend 100%!
Great experience, Victor helped us a lot Well planned. Food, activities everything was super great. Loved the experience
It was a wonderful experience. Cody (our guide ) was very experienced and friendly. We had a lot of fun while kayaking and swimming in the sea 🌊.
Our tour guide Hung(Kevin) is an experience guy, his humorous making everyone felt enjoy throughout the tour. Food on the cruise is nice, activities arrange also not very tight, good for elderly & family with kids

Cody was experiencing d good guy and very helping it explained everything in good way cruise was good too activities wax great kayaking and swimming was fun
Ha long bay probably a must if you are in North Vietnam its quite cool but really didn't have the wow factor for me , the bay is quite pretty , boats are looking tired , water has the usual plastic detritus floating in it that is everywhere in these parts its okay !!!! The port area was absolutely dead no one around at all
Worst holiday ever! Place full of scammers. No morals in this area they prey on tourists. Ruined honeymoon
This place is full of scammers. They ask you to pay for photos you don’t want. Ticket sellers charge higher than at the booth. The police get commissions. They have no qualms scamming you even if your heavily pregnant
This is a must to do excursion if you travel to Vietnam. The cruise was extremely soothing and calming- A cruise through gigantic limestone karsts which was like a dreamy escape, so soothing to both mind and body as the weather and ambience were on point. Two stops were made to do rafting and exploring the limestone karsts. This is one excursion you will never regret! (Traveled in 2018)
I always wanted to go to Ha Long bay that I am so happy that I got a chance to put it on my "Been there, done that" list. The scenery is breathtaking. The water is clean and clear. There are many activities to do as well, particularly kayaking. I think the 1 day tour is a good option if you don't have time. However, time to visit each spot would be limited for only about 30 minutes to 45 minutes. Next time, when I have more time and budget, I'd love to try the 2 days 1 night tour. I really enjoyed the day and hope to come back soon! Highly recommend!!!!
If you have all the time in the world or only one day. Halong Bay is an extraordinary UNSECO that you must make time for while in Northern Vietnam. There are so many different options for you to choose from day trips or overnight trip (1 - 4 nights). Some boats offer many stops and keep you moving the whole trip where others allow you to rest and take in the views. There is something for everyone. Know what you want before you book. There is well over 1,600 islands and islets, which offers spectacular seascape views of limestone mountains surrounded by emerald green water. We were there late December and we had fabulous weather. Day 2 started off very Grey but really came around.
This is the must stunning place I have ever been, the number island’s, floating fisheries , and the water is so clear. It should be on your bucket list for sure. We organised this ourselves, you don’t need a tour operator it’s easy and not to expensive.
Halong Bay is definitely worth seeing. We were lucky to have nice weather. The most exciting part of the trip was kayaking. We had a lot of fun passingthe rocks and other kayaks. We also visited the cave.
I have had this trip 2 times, enjoyed very much each time. absolutely worth going. the nature is breathtaking.
The islands were amazing. The landscape is so different to anything I've ever seen. While we were kayaking around there were two monkeys close to the water. One of the local boat rowers proceeded to feed a monkey a wrapped chocolate much to the amusement of the tourists in his boat. With all the signs saying no to single use plastics etc around the place, may be there needs to be a focus on not feeding the monkeys as this creates so many more issues.
Amazing sunset and sunrise although could smell the diesel fumes. Crowded with other cruises. Would recommend lan ha bay as less crowded
One of the most beautiful places on our blue planet, a must see in any trip to Vietnam. We were lucky as it wasn't crowded, just a few boats around.
This is my second review - we went a couple of years ago, we entered the Bay on a small expedition vessel and the magic time we spent - without seeing another boat, just visiting a couple of families living in the Bay, created memories which will stay with me forever. We came back in January as part of a cruise, we were lucky to have an overnight stay on board. Halong Bay was still the same magic place, except that it is not the same when you share the experience with lots of people from the boat and thousands of day trippers from Hanoi. So - if you have the privilege of choice, then pick a small boat cruise and you will have the feeling that you have the place to yourself. If you arrive on a cruise or if you have a bit more time coming from Hanoi, take a cruise in the smallest boat you can find and enjoy the travel between the rock formations. Don't book the excursion through your cruise company - they will charge a lot and you can get a better experience if you book at the information office. You can get a boat with lots of other people (the selfie brigade will be in their element) or you pay a bit extra to have a boat to yourself. We paid $ 90 for the boat and $ 26 entry fee for the National Park which is also your entry ticket for the caves (the cruise company wanted $ 99 per person on a boat shared with 30+ people) - and you have the boat for 3-4 hours to enjoy the tranquility of Halong Bay. You can buy tickets in the yellow admin office at the end of the pier. There are places in the Bay where you can hire a kayak to go out on your own, I am not sure how strenuous it is. Some caves (I could not fact check this) have been adapted to people with physical disabilities, check this yourself if it applies to you. The caves are spectacular - but the ones we visited last time involved a bit of climbing and walking. If you cannot walk, avoid a shared boat: it will stop at a cave for app 1 hour and you'll be stuck waiting for your fellow passengers to return. Go soon - we noticed a huge difference in tourism, traffic, building work. Halong Bay is in the process of becoming a tourist centre beyond visits to the actual Bay. I just hope that this magic place will not be spoilt.
We booked through our hotel and paid the equivalent of $50 each. The minibus was a little cramped, it's not designed for a fat western bum. The food on the boat was ok but not worth it, they also overcharge for beer and tea. Halong bay was a delight, very peaceful.
We took a morning cruise on Halong Bay that included lunch and also visited the Song Sot caves. The boat ride and the scenery were spectacular - some of the most amazing we had seen. The lunch on the boat was quite good and we felt as though the half-day option was a good one. Souvenirs were also sold on the boat at quite good prices (although we just bought a t-shirt). Our trip did not include swimming or other activities beyond the cave, we felt this was a good amount of time to spend.
I booked a 2D1N tour package in a deluxe double cabin. Thankful I got a room on the same floor as the restaurant, so there was no need to go up and down stairs. All officers are friendly and very helpful. The food is amazingly delicious. That will definitely be an unforgettable experience. Thank you Renea Cruise and thank you Hua (our tour leader).
We spent 3 days and 2 nights with Annam junk. Our party of 12 included 4 kids under 8. The rooms are air conditioned with ensuites. The boat is in dire need of an upgrade. On the upside it had great viewing areas to take in view of Halong bay.the food at least was good. The crew could have been more personable. Service was only provided during meal times. As for Halong Bay, every corner is a postcard! Unfortunately there aren't many areas to swim as it is now a UNESCO site. The one site available was overcrowded and not at all an enjoyable experience. Visiting the caves is a must. I highly recommend visiting Halong Bay.
It has more than 3000 islands and islets of pinnacle-shaped limestone. This has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site since 1994. It takes 3.5 hours to drive from Hanoi. Ideally if you have breakfast and leave you are expected to reach there around by12:00 HRS. Traditional tour guide might stop you at a gem place , its still worth talking a break. They have overnight cruise as well (where in you can stay in the cruise) but we opted for a day cruise which was for 4 hours cruise and we explored the amazing area of the bay. The cruise will also have a lunch mostly seafood Cruise passes through a floating village, Urn islet, Fighting Cock islet and the magnificent limestone grotto. Then the boat will explore untouched beautiful area of the bay There is a hidden cave as well worth visiting. Attraction is marked with English to read and understand.
Took a day trip for Halong Bay cruise. We booked through Kim Travels in Old Quarters. Cost about $54 per head including taxes (included the transport to and fro Hanoi, cruise, lunch, entry tickets for Caves, TiTop and kayaking/boat and one bottle of water). The tour operator was called Impressive Cruises. We were picked up from our Hotel in Old Quarters at about 8 Am. After picking up the rest of group on the cruise trip, the mini bus - air conditioned and comfortable - drove us to The parking lot of Halong Bay cruise. It was about 3-3.5 hours drive from Old Quarters. Midway, the bus stopped at a huge tourist amenities complex which had very clean toilets and number of restaurants. We were asked to give our food options - Veg or non veg in the bus itself. After reaching the Bay entrance, the tour operator arranged for entry tickets ( you need to preserve it until u finish the trip as every entry point during cruise you would need to show it), a walk of about 700m and we reached our cruise - a good wooden boat with air conditioning inside. The vegetarians were made to sit separately as a group for lunch. Lunch was served immediately on boarding. Decent quantity and taste. As the cruise started, lunch was served and post lunch most moved to the top deck for a view and phot sessions. As the wind speed increased, we were advised to get inside. The first stop was TiTop Island and Hill. It was a steep climb of about 400 steps with a panoramic view of the Bay from the top. Excellent view and climb. There are small shops selling tea, Coffee, tender coconuts, juice etc. After TiTop island next stop was for Kayaking and boating. People can opt for one of these. Excellent experience. Post this, Cruise moved towards the Sung Sot or Surprising Caves. A set of interconnected three caves. Quite a sight to walk through. Very well maintained and huge spaces. Again, after finishing the cave tours, one can have light refreshments in the small restaurants down near the cruise boarding point. After the cave visit, the Cruise started moving towards the Bay entry complex. As an entertainment, they have cooking class - how to make Vietnamese spring rolls. After reaching the bay entry complex, again we boarded the same bus and drove towards Hanoi with a stop in between at the amenities complex for washroom use and refreshments. Finally, we were dropped at points closer to our hotel by about 8 PM. A good visit and enjoyable one
Ha Long Bay seemed like an obvious choice for our Vietnam vacation and I would say you should see it but understand that its EXTREMELY crowded. The whole bay is filled, and I mean filled, with small cruise ships. They all seem to take you to the same places as well, a few caves, floating fishing villages and to Titop Island. We did a two night cruise there which was way to long, one night is enough. The bay is a UNESCO heritage site but is rather polluted, overrun with people that just seem to want to snap a picture and not take in the actual beauty or history of the place. We went once and though we will visit Vietnam again, I wouldn't return to HLB.
This tourist spot has become full of trash and pollution. even though authorities have banned plastic on halong bay tours, there is a lot of trash on the beach and boat still being produced as well as the water is covered with oil pollution. the place is beautiful but it has been ruined by tourist. will suggest giving it a miss.
We booked a Halong Bay Day Trip from a tourist shop in Hanoi Old Quarter for a family of 6 (4 kids age 9, 12,15,15). The cost per person is 28USD (the prices are listed clearly on the display boards for many of these tourist shops in Hanoi Old Quarter). We also booked another day trip for the following day to Tran An and Tam Coc for 22USD per person). The mini bus that picked us up from our hotel in Old Quarter around 7.30am was fully packed. The journey to Halong Bay took 4hrs. Upon reaching Halong Bay at noon, we boarded the cruise ship. A seafood lunch was served on the cruise ship followed by visit to a cave and bamboo boat ride. It was a fun and relaxing 4hrs on the cruise. We left Halong Bay around 5pm. It took another 4hrs to reach Hanoi Old Quarter. We had a late dinner at 9pm near our hotel. Overall it was a fun day out of Hanoi.
In the past we have always looked forward to a day cruise on Halong Bay. Unfortunately, like many other ‘tourist’ spots around the world (e.g. Trevi Fountain) this once idyllic area is overrun by wall to wall visitors. No artery where or when you visit Halong Bay expect unbelievable crowds. Where there used to be one or two boats visiting a particular spot there are now 50. Sad to see this change. I hate having to write this negative review but be forewarned.
We went on a 4-hour cruise on a Bai Tho vessel, including lunch, organised as part of a Viking river cruise. The scenery is, as everyone will testify, absolutely stunning and our fish-based meal seemingly endless as courses kept coming one after the other. Afterwards we retired to the upper deck for an endless photo session. Later, towards the end of the cruise, we visited the equally amazing Golden Cave complex - massive caves with all the stalectites, stalegmites and wonderful rock formations you could wish for. Definitely not disabled friendly but good, firm steps throughout. It could be the highlight of the holiday but, as it's only day 2, only time will tell.
around 3,5 hours transfer from Hanoi, and the toilet stops ar well planned at super organized super markets... However, the Pelican boat was very nice and the cruise well planned in order not to be at too crowded places. Food was nutritious and ..ok... the rooms were very nice. Finally the surprise cave does not have the stupid light show anymore, so it is a great experience again. Skip the pearl farm, that's a sales show.
Fantastic location, unfortunately very well attended and unfortunately the water in edinemmiserable condition because of the pollution. It's too bad. It could be even more beautiful
Halong Bay is definitely a must for those traveling in Viatnam. I stayed in a hotel in a newly built area, near the seafront. It is a must to take a cruise among the thousand rocky islands that emerge from the water creating a dream scenario. The place is very touristy, but not for this the charm is affected.
Thật là một chuyến đi tuyệt vời cho cả gia đình. Đây là một điểm đến lý tưởng cho kỳ nghỉ hè của bạn
It is convenient to take part in a day trip, but unfortunately on the dark day, if the weather is clear I believe it is very beautiful. On the same day, only to go to the "Chinese Palace Cave" cave is very spectacular, more beautiful than the Chinese Guilin, unfortunately there are many people inside the cave. The cruise can add a little imagination to observe different hills.
To see in his life, "that I'm sure", as the guide would say;-) With a cruise away from the tourist mass, on another circuit, we thought we were alone... No words to describe this majestic bay, discovered under the sun!
We were in Halong intrigued by the fact that everyone was amazed by this bay.. actually we were quite disappointed. We opted for the 4-hour cruise, Route 1, 40,000 dong plus another 40,000 if you want to rent the kayak. Maybe it's that in January there's fog, maybe it's that we came from Ninh Binh and therefore we had already seen something similar (but better), they just seemed like rocks in the sea. Nothing more. Besides, the boat crew did not speak a word of English, so it was really a useless ride. I wouldn't recommend it.
The cruise ship was beautiful, the sunny day helped make the excursion very good. The beautiful paysage, one of the wonders of the world are the rocks that emerge from the water. We also visited the cave. Paradise
The bay will be a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As an aside, it is also featured in NHK’s “World Cat Walking” program, so I was expecting cats, but I didn’t see them at all when I visited....
We chose Flamingo Luxury Cruises and it was a great choice. 24 hours in the bay with lunch, dinner, breakfast and brunch. Visit to the oyster farm, Titop Island and Surprise quarries. Unique experience!
