Fantastic last minute decision...Akihiro approached me promptly to give all the necessary info I travelled solo....Akihiro and his wife made me feel welcomed. Akihiro knowledge about the area made the trip even more interesting!

Itinerary
You will hike up the mountains in the outer rim of Hakone caldera. We will reach the trailhead by taxi and start the hike from around 700metre above sea level. The temperature is generally lower in the mountain this level.
You will hike along the ridge after you reach the mountaintop. The ridge hike will take around 2.5 - 3 hours or more if you take more photos or snack stops. This is the highlight of this tour because the view is spectacular on the ridge. You could see the Pacific Ocean, Hakone town, Lake Ashi, the volcanic steam of Owakudani, Mt Fuji, and more along the way.
You will hike down to this area.
Enjoy local lunch in this area. There are soba, udon, Japanese curry, and Westernised restaurant in this area. I will suggest a good one according to your choice and availability. Food should be a highlight of any trip.
You will go to an onsen with both indoor and outdoor baths to relieve the tired muscles from the traverse hike. The onsen has a legendary healing effect. This experience can be customised according to your preference.

Absolutely wonderful experience that I highly recommend. Aki made the logistics of a day-long experience seamless. We enjoyed learning about the area along our hike, the snacks he brought were great, and the onsen after lunch was perfect.
This was an amazing experience! Aki, our guide, was incredibly kind and served us tea and snacks. He also took great pictures, and we had a fantastic view of Mount Fuji, clear of any clouds. I highly recommend this tour!
Quite a challenging hike if you are not reasonably fit (well we are in our 60's)! But well worth doing if you are fit or just like a challenge! So in the last 10 days, we have had many highlights during our trip to Japan but this haa to be the highlight of all highlights - partly becauae we were so lucky with the weather to get perfect sights of a snow capped Mount Fuji, and partly because we were so well looked after by our guide Akihiri, with his information and general chat - he was great company! The Onson after the trek was very relaxing way to round off the day 😊
Aki was an amazing tour guide! We had a very large group of 8 people and he accommodated us super well. Our group had varying fitness levels, so I will have to come back for the full hike. I would highly recommend this hike with Aki, it is a great escape from the city and really has amazing views. We got a great view of Fuji. Best of all was a surprise Aki made for us on the hike. See you again soon!
We did this tour on the last day of our Japan trip and it was a perfect ending! So nice to get away from the crowds and into nature. Akihiro was super knowledgeable of the area. He planned a great route and took amazing photos throughout. Highly recommend this tour!
Aki was a great guide! We had a lovely hike in middle to late October. While we didn't get visibility the day of of our hike, Aki offered us a few options for routes and we still enjoyed the hike he selected for the day as it was very quiet and it was practically as if the trails were fully just for us that day. We enjoyed the soba lunch spot he took us too as well as the onsen for relaxing post hike. Many thanks to Aki - he was a wonderful guide full of deep knowledge around the surrounding plants and animals to the trail. There were many steps to this hike - just something to be aware of!
It was wonderful hiking experience for us. Akihiro was very friendly, welcoming and well-organized. Strongly recommended!
This was a moderately challenging but incredibly beautiful hike along the ridge of the Hakone caldera. The views of the surrounding countryside were incredible, and the views of mount Fuji were superb even with the clouds. Akihiro was a wonderful guide who knew a lot about the surrounding woods. He chose a trail that was almost entirely empty of other hikers even on a busy day. He was very good at tailoring pickup and dropoff at the beginning and end of the tour to each traveler's specific travel plans. If you enjoy a moderate challenge and want a guide for an excellent hike in a beautiful region, this trip is perfect.
Giving it was raining the guide and I decided to change hike to another he runs along the Hachiri road through Hakone mountains. It is the road Samurai clans took through mountains from Kyoto to Tokyo during edo period. Interesting hike and the guide Akihiro was very knowledgeable about the history.
Aki was a great guide and so knowledgable. We had cloudy weather so didn’t get to see Mt Fuji, but some of the views of Lake Ashi and the surrounding towns were amazing.
The views and the guide were amazing!! We hiked on Mt. Kintoki, had a nice time and lunch on the summit and went afterwards towards Hakone. We made interesting stops at Owakudani ("sulfur mountain"), the pretty Hakone Shrine with a Tori at the lake Ashi and saw a pirate ship sailing in Lake Ashi. We then stopped at the traditional teahouse "Amasake", which is located at the "old" path between Kyoto and Edo/Tokyo. Definitely recommend!! And as a nice, relaxing finale, we went to an onsen. We had a great day (:
Aki is an excellent guide who we would recommend to anyone. He shared many interesting details about the area throughout the day, including answering all of our many questions. Our hike of the Hakone Caldera was excellent, despite the weather being rather wet and cloudy. We enjoyed a very pleasant hike through the forest, taking us to several "viewpoints" for Fuji and Lake Ashi, which I am sure would have been superb had it not been for our poor luck with the weather. The hike itself was not too challenging for us, as we often hike in Scotland, however a fairly good level of fitness would be best as our total elevation gain was about 650m over 10.9km distance. After the hike, which took around 4.5 hours in total, we ate lunch in a fantastic soba restaurant which we would definitely recommend (especially the hot soba with tempura vegetables and prawns). Aki then took us to a nearby onsen, where we spent an hour, which was very relaxing and a perfect end to an active day. Aki was very helpful in directing us to the best option for transport to our hotel, which turned out to be the cable car over the Caldera. By this time the clouds had cleared, giving us a view of Lake Ashi.
We had a great time. The guide moved at the pace of the group and showed us interesting things along the way. Great guy- very fun. We had a little snack and tea when we rested. The hike had beautiful views. After the hike we had at a nice noodle restaurant. This is a reliable, kind and honest guide. Very helpful the entire trip. The hike does take general good fitness though no particular hiking ability. Consider it like climbing stairs of dirt and if you can do that then you can do this hike. It's uneven surface naturally. Hiking stick wouldn't hurt but the guide did loan us some for the downhill bit as I had opted to not bring my own sticks. It was helpful on the downhill. We used a mix of good treaded tennis shoes and shoes with hiking grip. It can get muddy.
We had a great day hiking with Aki, he was extremely knowledgable about the forest and animals within it. We spent most of the day with him hiking, eating lunch and then finishing with an onset, it was a great day and would definitely recommend it to anyone considering a hike in Japan. Aki is a legend!!
Aki is simply amazing guide, he took the time to explain several things during the trip, which was really nice! It's totally doable but you need to be a bit trained or fit. But the view is totally worth!
Amazing day in Hakone, with Akihiro! Best guide ever! It was a very beautiful day, he is very nice and the perfect guide in Hakone:)
Really nice hike. He has multiple routes that he offers. So just communicate to him what you are looking for :)! We were lucky to see Fujisan. Akihiro also takes nice pictures during the hike and shares them afterwards Totally can recommend.
We had a great hike with Aki. Amazing views of Mt Fuji and a really enjoyable somewhat demanding hike. Aki is a wonderful and thoughtful host and expert hiking guide. Lunch post hike at the Soba restaurant and the Onsen were real highlights of a great day. We did this as a day trip from Shinjuku which worked well, but if you had more time it would be good to stay in the beautiful Hakone area. Aki is a super hospitable guide and also took lots of great photos for us. We would love to do another hike with Aki in future. Strongly recommend.
We had a great time on this hike! Akihiro was a fantastic guide and thought of everything to make the day as good as possible for us - including taking wonderful pictures for us to capture one of our favorite days in Japan! This is a perfect way to spend a day in the Hakone area - I highly recommend this experience!
Aki was a wonderful hiking guide, with so much knowledge of the plants and area to make it an informative and enjoyable experience! The hike views of Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashi were also fantastic!
Amazing experience to hike up and see mt. Fuji beautiful scenery. This is not a hard hike but also not easy, around 2:30-3hrs.
This was a great day's hike. Good views and a very interesting and patient guide. I think it's best for active families or individuals and there is uneven terrain but it was delightful day. We are glad we did the hike even though it was foggy and we couldn't see Fuji.
Thoroughly enjoyed our hike with our guide Aki. He took us on a beautiful scenic route which also avoided any other tourists. Aki is a kind and interesting man, who made the hike both a relaxing and informative day. After the hike was over Aki took us to a great soba restaurant and some Onsen (hot spring baths) both were really good recommendations. It was a very well organised day from start to finish. What’s more Aki took some great photos with his SDK camera for us to remember the day by. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone else visiting Hakone.
We had an incredible hike with you Aki. The entire experience was excellent! Knowledgeable guide, beautiful scenery, and comfortable yet challenging hike. Anyone who is an avid hiker, beginner, with or without your family, Coconut Tours will create an experience fit for you and adjust the tour as necessary. I can't say enough about how easy it was to book and communicate with the owners of this company. Absolutely recommend!!!
Great to join this hike to overseeing lake ashi, views is spectacular. great experience hiking at Hakone area . Delighted to have the tea breaks with tea / coffee. 👍🏻😃 , Akihito san also helping me to take many nice pictures , introducing the plants along the way … Highly recommended and it is an enjoyable hike 😃
Aki did a great job taking us on a beautiful hike with views of Mt. Fuji. His English is perfect and he made it really convenient picking us up at our hotel. He has different levels of hikes, so be sure and understand what level of difficulty you are signing up for and definitely use the hiking poles he brings for your use!
We had an extra day on our way back to Tokyo. We couldn't get there too early so Akihiro was accommodating to allow us to alter the timing and starting location. He communicated well and helped us out with all of the logistics. The hike was much cooler than we thought so refreshing for the summer. We knew it might be difficult to see Mt Fuji and it was due to summer clouds. He was very thoughtful and picked a lunch spot where we could faintly see the silhouette. Besides being a helpful tour guide for the hike, he was patient to answer all of my questions. We enjoyed the mix of quiet nature moments and great conversation.
I had this amazing hike with Akihiro in May which I think is the prime time of the year to do this trek. Akihiro has checked the weather in advance to remind me to change to a date with higher chance to see Mt. Fuji and it luckily ended up well with full visibility to enjoy this splendid view of Mt. Fuji. Aki was quite professional with rich knowledge of hiking in japan and history&stories alongside the way. He prepared some hot coffee at the top of mountain and helped to take a lots of picture of me in the nature. At the end of the trip, I was took to a very nice onsen place to relax the body. A perfect day!
This is my first trip to Japan and the best highlight was the peaceful tranquil hiking experience I had with Akihiro. He's a friendly and funny guide and speaks English really well, we had a great time learning history of Hakone and japan while joking and gossiping about things around the world. The trip itself was just soo mesmerizing. We start with some good workout to have a clear full mount Fuji view as our rewards at the peak. Then we continues hiking through various terrains includes some absolutely surreal bamboo forests. We finish with some of the best ramens in local shops and a beautiful amazing onsen to wrap up the day. Would absolutely go back again to explore other hiking trails with him
We’ve been to Japan three times. Akihiro’s experience was by far the best. Not only is it the best hike with expansive views and the most beautiful and peaceful onsen, Akihiro is a lovely person whom you’d enjoy spending a day with. It was a cultural exchange as well that you don’t normally get to do if you don’t speak Japanese. (Just wanted to add that we saw great views of Mt Fuji but your mileage might vary depending on the weather!)
I really appreciate Akihiro's experience as a guide. He is an experienced professional, who is taking care of different fitness levels of his customers. He is organized and prepared to deliver the best experience possible. I definitely recommend his service. ;)
Mr. Akihiro was very friendly throughout the trip and would also actively help us take pictures. The coffee he cooked during the break was also good to drink, the overall experience was very pleasant, and next time I have a chance to come again.
Aki is a great hiking guide, he takes great care of you at all times, he is very patient and takes pictures of you all along the way. We had an amazing day with ideal views.
An excellent moment of accessible hiking but with difficulties as we like! A real hiking trail with magnificent landscapes and above all a great guide Aki with us to discuss, explain and share. Thank you for this experience which is by far one of the best of our stay. This hike allows you to enjoy Hakone in one day and finish with an osen. We love it and highly recommend it!
