Enjoyed our time with Timi, especially going on the cable car. She made the experience wonderful.

Itinerary
Travelers will glide high above Hakone’s stunning landscape aboard the Hakone Ropeway gondola. As they ascend from Sounzan to Owakudani, they’ll witness dramatic volcanic steam vents and the unique scenery of the “Great Boiling Valley.” On clear days, the view opens up to the majestic Mt. Fuji and the sparkling waters of Lake Ashi below. The entire ride offers a panoramic journey through Hakone’s natural beauty — a perfect mix of adventure and breathtaking sights.
Owakudani, known as the “Valley of Hell,” is an otherworldly landscape formed by volcanic activity. Here, travelers can witness steaming vents, bubbling hot springs, and the dramatic power of nature up close. A highlight is tasting the famous “black eggs,” boiled in the hot sulfur springs and said to add seven years to your life. With its surreal scenery and cultural quirks, Owakudani offers a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that is both thrilling and uniquely Japanese.
Travelers will embark on a scenic cruise aboard the famous Hakone Pirate Ship, sailing across the tranquil waters of Lake Ashi. From the open deck, they can take in breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji, lush mountain ranges, and the lakeside scenery that changes beautifully with the seasons. The ship itself is designed like a grand pirate vessel, adding a sense of adventure to the journey. Whether departing from Togendai, Motohakone, or Hakone-machi ports, guests can enjoy a relaxing 25–40 minute voyage that captures the essence of Hakone’s natural beauty and charm.
The shores of Lake Ashi are ideal for relaxing walks, leisurely boat cruises, and enjoying the crisp mountain air. With the iconic red torii gate in view and Mt. Fuji sometimes appearing in the background, the lake embodies the postcard-perfect image of Hakone. Visitors can savor local treats, explore charming shops, or simply sit by the water and soak up the serene landscape—a refreshing contrast to the bustle of city life.
Hakone Shrine is one of the region’s most iconic landmarks. The striking red torii gate rising from the waters of Lake Ashi creates one of the most photogenic scenes in Japan. Steeped in history and surrounded by towering cedar trees, the shrine embodies the mystical beauty that has drawn pilgrims for centuries. Visitors can walk the sacred paths, learn about local legends, and capture unforgettable photos of Japan’s spiritual heritage.
Once a retreat for the Imperial Family, Onshi-Hakone Park offers panoramic views of Lake Ashi and, on clear days, majestic Mt. Fuji. This beautifully landscaped park combines Western-style gardens with traditional Japanese aesthetics, making it a perfect place to stroll and take in breathtaking scenery. The blend of history, elegance, and natural beauty gives travelers a unique perspective on Japan’s cultural refinement.

There wasn't one thing Ken could have done that he didn't do. He was extremely attentive, professional, kind, and thoughtful from start to finish. Ken led from the front of the line but always waited patiently until the last person caught up, so no one ever felt rushed or left behind. When I mentioned I was interested in local crafts, he took us to a workshop and asked the artisan to give us a demonstration, which isn't something they usually do, and then translated everything into English. It was a highlight of our trip and something we never could have arranged on our own. If you're visiting Hakone, request Ken. He turned a great day into an unforgettable one
Our guide, Taro, provided us with an unforgettable day. He made sure we experienced Hakone's historical highlights, natural beauty, and views of Mount Fuji, and he captured great photos to take home. We left with fantastic memories.
Absolutely amazing day. Our guide was exceptional. So knowledgeable and very accommodating and if she was unsure of anything she searched for the answer. Also very patient as I have a sore foot and she was very mindful of that. I would recommend her to anyone. Thank you for the lovely day
What a wonderful tour! I think this tour is the best one in Japan
The tour was beautiful ,educational and wonderful but there were many long lines with long waits. Our guide was knowledgeable and shared historic details about each destination.
This was the highlight of our Japan trip (mom and 13yo son). This tour gave us a chance to try the rope way up the mountain and explore the volcanic landscape at the top. Some incredible sights! Our tour guide Ken was very friendly and helpful with explaining the landscape of the area. He also explained to us the importance of the various gates. He waited patiently with us so we could get the photo under the big gate :) it was so much fun and I was so glad we had a guide to help us navigate through the various places. Having Ken help us navigate through this really made it possible to more enjoy the experience. We highly recommend!
We had an incredible day exploring Hakone with our guide, Ken. From the very beginning, he was friendly, professional, and extremely knowledgeable about the area. He took the time to explain the history, culture, and significance of each location we visited, which made the experience so much more meaningful. Ken helped us navigate the Hakone ropeway, Lake Ashi cruise, shrines, and scenic viewpoints with ease, ensuring we made the most of our time. He was flexible, patient, and happy to tailor the day to our interests. Even though Mt. Fuji likes to hide behind the clouds at times, the stunning scenery, peaceful atmosphere, and Ken’s local knowledge made this one of the highlights of our Japan trip. If you’re considering a private tour in Hakone, we highly recommend booking with Ken. Thank you for such a memorable experience!
Wonderful experience, very good tour with an excellent guide. Kenichi was the best guide for English and Spanish speakers. 10/10 stars
Our guide Keiji was a funny, smart, and personable, making him exceptional on this tour through Hakone. He passed on deep knowledge of the history and customs of the region, and of Japan in general, in fun and interesting ways, using his experience living both in Japan and abroad to help connect Japanese history and customs to global history. Having an expert to guide us through the many different forms of transportation made the day easy and let us see lots of Hakone with minimal fuss. Plus he parted the clouds magically so we could see Mt Fuji!!! Highly recommended.
Tour was wonderful, Masko was wonderful, she was very knowledgeable and was a great tour guide. Would use your company again. Very worthwhile ❤️
This was a great tour! Keiji was an amazing guide - super friendly and knowledgeable. 100% recommend!
We had such a beautiful day traveling around Hakone. Beautiful and we learned so much. Our guide, Masako, was so knowledgeable and kind. Made for an awesome day.
Our tour guide Tak was awesome! We did a private tour with him and he took great care of us! He even made sure Mt. Fuji didn’t have any cloud cover for us! 😉 he was very knowledgeable and showed us around the Hakone area. It was nice to not worry about where to go or how to get there.
This is a breathtaking tour, made far more interesting by our guide, Hina. In addition to the breathtaking Mount Fuji, the temple in Hakone and the lake cruise (on a pirate ship no less!) Hina guided us to small temples and shrines near Fuji, the black eggs cooked in hot sulphur springs and the best bakery on the lake shore. The scenery is every bit as spectacular as expected and we hope Hina's grandmother enjoyed her black egg!
Ken was out guide and was very enjoyable to be with yet a wealth of knowledge and good insight on what to see and do he was very personable.
Taro was very professional and knowledgeable! We got to try a delicious lunch he recommended and because he was so good with timing we didn’t have to wait in line!
Yuma was a great guide and made the exprerience really beautiful. He explained everything perfectly and it had a good vibe.
I only had 5 hours to explore the area and the tour was perfect for me. The guide (Taku) was superb and showed me everything I wanted to see. Even the view of Fuji was stunning! A perfect tour!
Awful tour of Hakone. The local tour company used by Viator was absolutely unaccommodating. The weather on the day of the tour was so poor with heavy winds, pouring rain and zero visibility. It was so terrible that the boat portion of the tour was cancelled by Hakone. But the local tour company refused to cancel and refused to offer any portion of a refund. And disappointingly, Viator failed to support us in our request. Very disappointing. The local tour operator (sub contractor) was YURAGI travels and I would sincerely say that they do not support clients in any way and are only interested in a money grab. Very sad. Very unprofessional !

Hina helped us navigate long lines as we did the Hakone Loop in one day. She communicated well with us via WhatsApp so we knew when and where to meet her at all times. She knew the best places to take photos and and also where to buy local art. We highly recommend this guided tour with Hina!!
A very good tour. Our time well spent since we are only stay for two nights in Harkone. Our guide, Ken is very helpful and knowledgeable with the places we went. Also gave us advice on how to tour efficiently. Highly recommended.
We chose to do a private tour as we only had one full day in Hakone and read about the long lines along the Hakone loop. We are very glad we did this as our guide Hina knew all the best ways to get us through so even though it was a high traffic time, we made it through all the main sites in one day. Hina had excellent communication - she was very responsive by text and helped us each step of the way knowing where to get ticket upgrades and which lines to stand in. When we did have to wait in line, she was able to share information about the site and answer our questions. She knew all the places to take great photos and sent us beautiful photos she had taken of us with her camera. And she knew where to find local artwork at the gift shops. Thank you Hina for making our brief time in Hakone maximally enjoyable!
Hina was great, very friendly, very professional, really super !!! When we come back , we ask for Hina Great day trip
Hina was such a sweet guide. Our tour was in the pouring rain, but still we had such a nice day.
Sally was an excellent tour guide! She was very knowledgeable and helped us get around Hakone with easy. We highly recommend this tour!
Masako was a great guide around Hakone. My daughter and I enjoyed ourselves. We would definitely recommend.
Hina was a wonderful guide, very attentive to our needs and the speed that my wife and I were able to walk (we are elderly). She also had a very open and relaxed nature, chatting with us while we were waiting for our transportation from site to site (Hakone ropeway, pirate ship). The tour stops were very good, offering great views of Mount Fuji and Lake Ashi.
In spite of the foggy weather, Hina made the tour enjoyable and educational.
This is very scenic but the views are weather dependent. Buy the Hakone Free pass at a ticket counter.
Hina was an amazing tour guide and very knowledgeable of the history of every place that we visited. Cannot recommend this trip enough.
Hina took us on an amazing tour. she was so kind and knowledgeable. Our whole day was planned out perfectly. Thanks Hina!!!
Hina was very helpful and friendly. Amazing tour. Had a great time, thank you! Learned a lot about Japanese culture and history.
Hina was the absolute best tour guide! Helpful and informative the entire time! I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Japan! Thank you Hina!!
Great tour had a lot of fun thanks
Our Guide Taro made the experience of seeing all of Hakone’s sights easy and fun for our family! We really appreciated his knowledge of the history and culture of Japan and the Hakone area and his easy going attitude.
It was our first time in Hakone and our tour guide, Taro, was very professional and informative. Not only did we learned about the sites we have visited, he was also very knowledgeable about Japanese history, tradition and nuances. Highly recommend!
This tour was fantastic, our guide Taro went above and beyond to give us a fantastic day. We were provided with all necessary information before the tour started.
This tour was so nice. My guide, Takumi, has a lot of knowledge and so kind. I highly recommend this tour!
We had a wonderful time thanks to Taro. He toured us to see beautiful scenery, was a wealth of knowledge on the history of Japan, and shared a real life perspective of modern day Japan. All of this culminated into an experience that we will always remember - truly feeling like he shared his country with us. Practically, the logistics were expertly managed. We covered a lot of ground without any indecision, which we would have certainly dealt with had we tried a similar trip without a guide. He took wonderful pictures using a high end camera. We avoided the tourist traps that would slow our trip down, giving us more time to experience the nature and wonders of Japan. Taro’s English was also excellent, which helped as well.
A great introduction to the Hakone area. We didn’t see Mt. Fuji because of the rain but we saw fantastic scenery. Our guide, Haruto, was very knowledgeable and helpful. We enjoyed this tour very much. Highly recommend.
From a day before reaching Hakone, Taro had reached out to us confirming the time we would reach and start our tour with the meeting point. Taro shared so much information on the history of Japan in general and the significance of Hakone. He has a lot of knowledge and perfect English making it very easy to understand the culture and history. He had the best tips to make sure we covered the most with the best efficiency. I highly highly recommend him for your trip to Hakone and if you want someone to go around Japan with or Mt.Fuji as well.
We had a wonderful trip I. The Hakone Roadway is a can't miss if you are in Hakone. Our guides were very nice and informative.
Our tour was completely enjoyable from beginning to end. Yuragi was extremely professional and informative about the history and culture of Japan. It was a great touch to use the various modes of public transportation including the cable car, ropeway, and Lake Ashi boat to connect all the highlights. He chose an excellent restaurant for lunch as well. I highly recommend.
Very good experience. Our guide Kenichi was very good, highly recommended.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ HARIEL **The best guide we have had in Japan** Traveling to Japan is an incredible experience, but discovering it with someone like **Hariel** makes the trip even more special. Not only does he have impressive knowledge about the history, culture, and curiosities of Japan, but he knows how to tell you about it in a relatable, entertaining way, full of anecdotes that make you understand each place you visit much better. But if there is one thing I would highlight about Hariel, it is **how he takes care of you throughout the entire experience**. He is always attentive, willing to help you with absolutely everything, looking for solutions, and making something that could be complicated in such a different country become easy. Having a local guide who knows Japan perfectly and who also **speaks Spanish** is a real luxury. We are left with a great desire to return to Japan to continue discovering new places, but we are very clear about one thing: **if we return, we want to do it with Hariel.** Thank you for showing us Japan, but above all for the way in which you accompanied and took care of us during the trip. **We could not have had a better guide.** 🇯🇵❤️
Pepito is a great guide; his knowledge of the places, their history, and his way of speaking Spanish create a spectacular experience.
Very nice tour guide, picked up directly at the nearest stop to us. Great organization!
Hiroshi is an experienced and very friendly guide. We saw and learned a lot. Everyone had fun.
