This is paradise on earth. The garden is so beautiful, the staff is so attentive, and the kaiseki and breakfast are authentic and heavenly. Let’s not even mention the koi ponds and rejuvenating onsens. My son and I got a 2-night stay there and we decided to spend it all in the hotel rather than going in town during the day. Highly recommend.

We stayed here one night to experience the hot springs and garden. It was a nice stay and the garden is incredible, the staff very friendly. However there are some improvements that could be made to the experience. The traditional seasonal Japanese meal was not really explained very well for foreigners or on their website. It had mostly raw meats including raw sea snail, fermented fish and many raw fish items. My husband and I don’t mind sashimi but this was very intricate delicacies. We felt bad not eating half the food and wish that we could have chosen our meal preferences at the check-in counter instead of online. The massage we had was also very average. There was no music, cold air conditioning and a male masseuse who was very repetitive with the movements and also did not massage on the skin, only through towels. It was not relaxing at all. They really need to work on their spa / massage experiences. We’ve had them all over the world and this has to be one of the worst. The onsen and baths however were amazing, some of the best! Very relaxing and beautiful baths. The staff were helpful and the property and rooms were very nice. I would stay again, but go to the steakhouse for dinner and also skip the massages.
This is the most incredible garden I've ever seen. Lush and serene! The food was great and the service and amenities were also pretty good. The hotel is a bit old, visible signs of aging but no complaints. The onsens are super nice and the private onsen is an added benefit. Most of the staff spoke decent English. Pretty great experience, I regret we didn't do more days here.
It was just a disappointment and is not worth for this price. I had a room with private onsen. Positive: The room, view, garden were good. Dinner&breakfast are traditional and delicious. Massage therapist was good. Negative: Staff needs serious improvement (English and attitude, they were not professional). There were mosquitoes - very uncomfortable. The massage room had zero ambiance, like a surgery room with white light. There was only one male massage therapist (he was really good though), no other options. I was not even informed about that. I would prefer a female massage therapist, so it should have been informed beforehand.
A Perfect Blend of Tradition and Comfort – Highly Recommend! It's worth noting that Yoshiike Ryokan operates more like a hotel than a strictly traditional ryokan, but that's actually a great thing—it gives you the best of both worlds. You get authentic Japanese-style rooms with tatami mats and futon bedding, incredible traditional kaiseki meals for dinner and breakfast (absolutely not to be missed!), and the impeccable service, concierge support, and modern facilities of a well-run hotel, all delivered by amazingly friendly and respectful staff. The location is fantastic: just a 7-minute walk from Hakone-Yumoto Station, conveniently across the river so you're away from the main street noise and bustle. What truly sets this place apart is the breathtaking Japanese garden—it's reason enough to stay here. In the mornings, grab your coffee (or tea) and head out to one of the benches to sit quietly and soak in the serene beauty, with seasonal flowers, koi ponds, and peaceful paths. The onsen facilities are excellent, with both indoor and outdoor options (separate for men and women), plus the ability to book a private onsen if you want a relaxing soak with your partner or family. All in all, our stay was amazing. A huge thank you to the staff for their warmth, friendliness, and genuine respect. I highly recommend Yoshiike Ryokan—don't skip booking at least one dinner and breakfast; the full ryokan dining experience is unforgettable!
