Kanaya Resort Hakone

Mother’s Day 2018. I took a day off work and went to a hot spring with my mother. At dinner, she kept eating the bread and saying things like, “This reminds me of when I lived in France,” and “The bread is delicious,” while making no comments about the rest of the meal. Her usual charmingly absent-minded remarks. At breakfast, she said, “This salad tastes just like the one my daughter makes,” which, in its own way, was rather blunt and a bit rude. When we checked out, the hotel staff kindly prepared bread as a parting gift, saying, “Since she praised the bread so much.” Even then, I remember thinking how many more times we would be able to come to a hot spring together. Perhaps everyone there felt the same. My mother and the hotel staff both waved goodbye with teary eyes as we left. It was a truly wonderful hotel. I had wanted to take her back again, but the price has gone up so much that it has become more of a dream stay now. One day, I hope to return and relive those memories again. Thank you all.

Could not recommend this hotel more. The rooms with the private Onsen and the incredible views were an unbelievably relaxing experience. The included dinner was a delicious 6 course meal and my wife got the paired tea tasting which was a unique experience. The food is more French leaning which was a happy change of pace during our trip. I’d suggest getting here as close to check in as possible so you can get into the room and relax before dinner but would definitely recommend this place to anyone coming to hakone for a slow pace day or two!

A peaceful escape to the mountains. Extremely gracious and personal service. We felt it was very similar in experience to some Relais & Chateaux properties we have enjoyed. Rooms are large with private natural spring water, you can adjust temperature to suit. Sheets were very good quality. In room massage was lovely as was the “midnight snack” soup. The bar does not open until 8pm but if you ask they really want guests to be happy and will make you a drink earlier. Lunch can be ordered until 1:30pm. It was also very good. Meals were outstanding!! Google translate is handy - everyone knows a little English and then you fill in the gaps. They want everyone to enjoy. The google summary mentions welcome champagne and caviar but it is now tea and cookies. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Kanaya Resort is one of the most magical properties I have ever had the pleasure of staying at. My partner and I spent two nights here in March and we were blown away by the quality of the service. I knew we were in for a treat when we were welcomed with a hot tea and cookies upon check-in, but it only got better from there. The amenities in the room were a lovely touch, complete with a robe, pajamas, slippers, and complimentary refreshments in the fully stocked mini fridge. The highlight was dinner each night, which was included in the hotel rate! It was truly a Michelin-level fine dining experience. The menu was also able to be customized according to my partner’s dietary restrictions. Breakfast was also a full experience. When we had an early tee time one morning, the staff packed us meals to-go. Kanaya Resort is a hidden gem on par with some of the finest luxury hotels in the world at a fraction of the price and much more intimate. It is the perfect refuge while exploring Hakone.
