Jaime was prompt, knowledgeable, and gracious. Touring with him was like seeing the city with family. We learned about the history of the city, heard some wonderful stories, saw beautiful art, the newer strategies to support the local economy.
We traveled to Guayaquil, Ecuador, as part of a Linbladt National Geographic Expedition. Arriving two days earlier and looking for a tour of Guayaquil. At Hotel Oro Verde, Juan Pablo recommended a local tour guide (Banana tours). I highly recommend Juan Pablo. He set up a tour for two of us senior females. A half day tour of the city of Guayaquil plus a tour of a cacao farm. Chocolate is big business in Ecuador, and the Mango and Cacao farm is locally owned. The farmer and his family run the farm and they gave us a tour from plant to chocolate bar. We were able to buy the bars produced in the farm to bring home to the US. Contact Juan Pablo at Hotel Oro Verde in Guayaquil. Guayaquil was under a security alert in December 2024. Thus, It was important to feel and be safe.
This tour is a great introduction to the city. Our tour guide met us at the hotel on time and provided us with a map of the city to show us where we would visit during our 3 days together, as well as recommendations for additional visits on our own. With a private bus, we easily traversed the city, stopping at different points of interest to walk and take in the history and culture. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to explore many sites, such as museums, as we only had 3 hours together, but it gave us ideas of where to return at a later date. All in all, a good overview for a first-time visitor.
I had a day layover in Guayaquil, so booked the 3 hour tour. Jaime was excellent. His English was good. He was smart, knowledgeable and patient. He's a retired pilot and now an artist by hobby. He took us to notable paintings in the museum and to sculptures outdoors. Naturally, we also visited a beautiful cathedral, an old neighborhood, and the famous Iguana Park.
Saw some beautiful parts of the city. The estuary and birds were nice. Our guide was very knowledgeable. Enjoyed walking down the Malecón.
I needed something of a customized tour to accommodate a short layover. Viator arranged Corina, who was a fabulous tour guide, passionate about her city and adjusted our itinerary to make sure I was able to make a few purchases and still get back to the airport on time. I've now used Viator on three different continents and good experience in all cases.
I use Viator all the time. This is the first time it went wrong. I booked a private tour because I have mobility issues and want to be able to ensure I can navigate the tour. Just before the tour was scheduled, the tour guide decided to change it from a private tour to a semi private tour. The morning of the tour, my leg was hurting and my wife and I decided not to go on it. I guess the tour guide won but I will think twice about using Viator next time.
We were impressed with our guide's, Corina, knowledge of the city and her English skills. Plus, the fact she self-taught herself in a total of three languages. We enjoyed our tour and gave us a good layout of the city. We felt very safe.
The best part of our experience was sour tour guide Walter. He was exceptionally knowledgeable about all things Quayaqui. History, politics, weather. I could go on and on. He had a lovely helpful personality and was a pleasure to listen to and ask questions of. Really the best tout I have ever been on.
Eddie is an great guide, so enthusiastic to share everything about Guayaquil, the modern, historical, must-see sights and other insights about life in Guayaquil and Ecuador . Highly recommended.
My travel friend had never seen these parts of city and he has come here a few times and he lives in Quito.
Great tour with Jaime such a good tour guide makes sure your happy and meets all your needs ..we really enjoyed our trip first time in Ecuador
Guide was very knowledgable and passionate about his City. Great climbing the 444 steps. Iguana park, city hall and the cathedral were defiiate highlights.
Francisco gave an excellent tour of Guayaquil with opportunities to walk around and see places. He shared history and anecdotes to give an in-depth tour. Adrien was the driver who also had interesting info to share. We got great restaurant recommendations from them.
Christopher escorted us around the city. He was well informed about the history and culture. He was energetic and caring and well spoken. He has a passion for the city and the country and it rubbed off on us. This was our first visit to South America and it was a great introduction. He showed us the historic sites, explained the history, showed us shopping and eating locations, discussed the safe and unsafe areas of the city and just had a passion for the country and it's beauty and culture.
Guide met us at our resort on time. His vehicle was immaculate & his English excellent. Everything went well, saw city sites in a practical fashion. Ended with historical residential area restored (approx 442 steps involved) & was able to complete on foot back to our resort. Excellent all round.
The warmest of days, in both senses of the word. Jaime Bolanos picked us up right on time, his vehicle spotlessly clean. What followed was, in our opinion, among the best city tours we have taken anywhere. Jaime was truly interested in immersing us is the Guayaquil of OUR interests. With a laid back and informative manner, his knowledge of the history, emergence, and future of this Ecuadorian city flowed as he deftly drove us around town. His friendly manner and optimism painted Guayaquil with a warm and hopeful brush, and we spent the day absorbing all of its colors. He even helped one of us face his vertigo with a spin around Malecon's wheel. Thank you Jaime, for infecting your happiness into our one-time visit to Ecuador
Our visit included the Philadelphia coffee plantation which was an interesting tour with a fabulous meal. We enjoyed visiting the colonial city of Antigua and purchasing local handicrafts
Francisco was our tour guide and he did a fabulous job answering a barrage of questions about Guayaquil and Ecuador. He made the tour around what you already knew about, my wife and I had been on a tour the previous day and he skipped the redundant places.

Everything was very good but travel guides should include aspects of everyday life in Ecuador such as open markets, or ethnic places to eat, typical home made products, music, churches, to name a few. Our guide was very welcoming and it didn't take long to feel a rapport with him but I wish that we have gotten the beat that is Guayaquil/Ecuador.

Our tour guide was interesting but not very organized. He had difficulty contacting his driver when we needed a pickup to the next location. Our guide also recommended a local restaurant that ended up giving me stomach issues for 4 days. Not sure I'd recommend for anyone.

There is an option of an am or pm tour. I wanted the pm tour because my flight was arriving late at night, so I called Viator to make sure I was confirmed on a pm tour. When I arrived at my hotel in Guayaquil they showed me scheduled for an 8:50 am pickup. My hotel called the tour company who said an afternoon tour was not available and I could go on the morning tour or a night tour. The booking on this tour is a one star. I did go on the morning tour with Francisco as my guide and he was a 5 star.

The tour covered many parts of the city both by car and by walking. Many buildings of importance as well as the various architecture were pointed out. Some of the interesting items seen were the University of the Arts, a small park which was inhabited by iguanas and a church next to it. The tour consisted of myself and a woman from Argentina. I spoke no Spanish and she spoke no English but our guide was able to translate so that we were able to have conversations with each other. Overall I found the tour interesting and informative.

Very interesting tour around the city center of Guayaquil. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of Guayaquil and was able to answer all the questions we had. If you are looking for a short but interesting tour of this city, I recommend you this tour! Sandra C.

As a solo female traveler I wasn't sure how safe I would feel getting around Guayaquil alone so I decided to book a tour. At first I had trouble booking for one traveler but tried a couple of different times and the booking was eventually accepted. Was very fortunate to have Philip as my guide. He picked me up at my hotel perfectly on time. He had myself and another family booked for the tour. We rode in a minivan and Philip told us all about Ecuador. We made several stops visiting the waterfront, the iguana park, and the steps.

I enjoyed the tour immensely and was pleased I had the opportunity to see Guayaquil. If you are looking for a half-day city tour I definitely recommend this tour.

I recommend that you should not miss this tour. Very friendly and professional guide.

Good photos that take you with iguanas and qhi you can also take a tour with mirabus show you the whole city
We did the City Tour in the morning, our guide was Cristopher, a very friendly boy, who loves and knows the history of Ecuador very well and who speaks Portuguese! We know the Malecon, Seminary Park, historic buildings, monuments and the Las Penas neighborhood. It is important to know these places with a guide, as there are particularities that we do not even realize if we visit without a guide. We thought this city tour was worth it.
A short way away from the seawall, a must visit when being in Guayaquil, we find the city that works and moves.Place of offices, banks , restaurants and a lot of commerce. I had been to Guayaquil a couple of times, but visiting emblematic places like the seawall or lake square. This time I wanted to go to the shopping center of the city and it is very tidy, quiet and one meets the own people of the city, away from the usual suggested tourist concept.
The tour in the tourist bus that we did gave us the opportunity to be quite clear about what is the city of Guayaquil and its historic center and then complete on foot certain areas and museums.
Although Guayaquil is a city of many contrasts, where the Malecón 2000 and the Barrio Las Peñas stand out, it does not have many other attractions. The center, where the Cathedral is worth visiting and the Park of the Iguanas, which is in front, is quite noisy and messy. Interesting are the corridors of the buildings, which allow to weather the rain when walking through the city. Anyway, it is worth a city tour to appreciate the contrasts, and also a walk along the Guayas River, from where you have interesting views towards the city and its nearby places.
