This was my favorite day of my vacation. Philippe, the tour guide, was very knowledgeable and entertaining. So fun! He was also very thoughtful. I took this tour on my own and he made sure I still got pictures of myself at the scenic points. Miguel, our driver, was very kind and attentive. And I had the good luck of meeting great people on the tour with me too! The hike was enjoyable exercise. I work out regularly and while I didn't find it really challenging, it is a bit of work and there are a lot of stairs. There are several cable bridges that could be daunting to the faint of heart. That said, if you're reasonably fit, willing to sweat and enjoy an adventure, you will love this tour! The rainforest, waterfall, hot springs, wildlife... all of it was fabulous! And the lunch was delicious! I would definitely recommend this tour and would be happy to do it again myself!

National Park Hike With our bilingual naturalist guide, you'll walk 3.5-km (2 miles) in Las Pailas circular path through the tropical forest to enjoy the best views of the volcano, incredible nature, volcanic activity, and wildlife. The park is home to more than 300 species of birds, and many other animals, such as armadillos, bays, iguanas, coatis and white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys, spider monkeys, toucans, turkeys, and much more. You will stop to view the volcanic activity including bubbling mud pots, fumaroles, and a mini crater. The Las Pailas sector spectacularly shows the power of the Rincon de la Vieja volcano, the most active and largest volcano in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Steam and sulfur come from natural fumaroles of the yellow and rusty soil. Witness clay pails in various shades of brown with boiling volcanic water, fine gray volcanic mud bubbles and explosions in large pails. This volcano is like no other in Costa Rica.
After the hike, take a short walk off the beaten path to Oropendola Waterfall just outside of the park, where you can jump in and swim in the blue lagoon.
Hot Springs & Volcanic Mud Bath After lunch you will driven to the Hot Springs. Surrounded by tropical dry forest, the Río Negro (Black River) Hot Springs feature ten pools with thermal waters heated naturally by the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano. The soothing mineral waters are crystal clear and all natural. Relax and enjoy luxuriating in our healing waters. You can also try our volcanic mud “bath”, where you smooth volcanic clay mud on your body!

We had the best day on this tour!! The hike was amazing- we saw a ton of volcanic activity and so many monkeys. Felipe was hilarious and made it that much more fun. The waterfall was stunning and all of the hiking was a decent workout for the delicious lunch!! Cannot recommend this tour enough! Thank you Miguel & Felipe for an amazing time and taking good care of us!
One on one offers a great experience. The driver and the guide were both excellent and communications about pick up what to wear were great. We learned more about the ecosystem, history, folklore, and biodiversity of Costa Rica than we could have imagined. We also had a great lunch - water and snacks were provided too. This is the team you wanna book with to explore Costa Ric!
We had such a great day (this was an all day excursion) and felt very prepared from the email sent prior, plus the reviews. Daphne was an EXCELLENT, informative and kind guide! She was such a gem, answered so many questions, took so many photos, and just provided such a great experience for us! We wore swimsuits under our clothes with tennis shoes for the day and the first part of the tour was the volcano hike (pretty long, I wouldn't say this is the best for elderly). Then we went to the waterfall. Unfortunately, there was a storm with possible flash flooding/runoff so they had closed the waterfall for swimming which we were really looking forward to after the hike, but we appreciated the sentiments of safety first as we had our young kids! Beautiful fall! The bridges to the waterfall were a bit scary for those with height aversion, so I wouldn't recommend going as the bridges also are a bit "bouncy" as you walk. We then headed to the Hot springs/mud bath. I would say this was my favorite part! It was very scenic and beautiful with different temp pools. So peaceful and relaxing. The mud bath is not what I was expecting, but more of a cup of mud that you smear on and then rinse off. Still an amazing experience! We then headed to the restaurant for the included lunch which was very good! The food was great (an app, entree and dessert!) and we were happy with the outdoor seating view. We took water shoes, bug spray, SPF and water, waterproof phone cases, and snacks if you think you'll get hungry. You also stop at a small convenience store where you can buy snacks. Overall, we had such a great tour and hit many things we wanted to see in Costa Rica on this excursion! Thank you Daphne and Miguel (our driver) for a top notch experience. Highly recommend to anyone.
Felipe and Frank were awesome hosts! Felipe gave all kinds of information about the country and the wildlife and nature around us. He was fun and kept us all organized while making sure we enjoyed ourselves! Frank was a master driver of the van and always had a cold water for us! We didn't get to swim in the waterfall due to possible rain but it was beautiful and the hot springs were absolutly amazing. Only wish we could have spent more time there relaxing! Pickup and drop off made it very easy. Would go again and highly recommend!
This was a great hike through the forest to see volcanic activity and a beautiful waterfall. It wasn’t strenuous but definitely a lot of stairs. Felipe was out good and provided many adventurous moments!
Great excursion- got to see and experience a lot of Costa Rica’s jungle and hot springs. Great tour and guide.
This excursion was great. Everything we wanted to see and more. My friend group enjoyed it immensely. Kevin Piña was an excellent tour guide!
Fun tour of some beautiful sites. Be prepared for the hike. A lot of walking up and down.
Easy pick up and drop off from our hotel. Our guide, Alejandro, was awesome! We saw beautiful scenery! But, there’s a lot of hiking, so be aware!
We had an amazing time with Kevin! He was friendly and knowledgeable which made the whole tour fun and memorable! The sweetest surprise was the birthday cake he brought for 3 celebrants 🎂🥳 It made our birthday celebration extra special. We had such a wonderful day and would definitely recommend this tour!
I'm so happy that i booked this tour, the views were amazing, we hike for about 2 hours and enjoying everything inside the rain and dry forest. Spot a few birds, it was raining on off so i suggesting to bring a rain jacket..the view from up there are spectacular about 2000 feet high. After that we went to the water fall ( but we couldn't swim because of the rain) had a delicious lunch in a local restaurant with different options of food😋 and finally relaxed at the hot springs and take a bath with the volcanic mud,the water is so hot. Our guide was prepared and explained us everything about the tour, and also our driver Frank did a good job. I high recommend it 👌
Daphne was super informative and fun and made the tour so amazing. Berto was great too. Would def recommend.
It was a nice day. The volcano hike is a bit boring since you're mostly staring at fuming puddles. But it's a pleasant walk through the rainforest. The waterfall is beautiful. I wish the conditions had been better and they allowed us to swim in it. The hot springs are my favorite part, and I could easily spend a few more hours there. Thanks to Kevin and Frank for the tour. They guided us the entire way and answered all our questions. I wish the guide's English was a little better, but it was understandable. Oh, and we really enjoyed the lunch. It was a good buffet with a decent selection.
Kevin Piña was great tour guide. Beautiful experience
We were picked up on time (actually early). Kevin was an excellent guide. Very personable and knowledgeable. He made sure everyone was safe and looked after. Our driver did an excellent job getting us to each location safely. We were fortunate to have a small group which I think made the experience better!!! We enjoyed a nice lunch and even saw some monkeys and toucan in the rainforest. This is a pretty long day but was worth it!
I’m giving this tour 4 out of 5 stars, mainly because I unfortunately became very motion sick and wasn’t able to experience the entire tour. That said, I would definitely still recommend it. I’m very prone to motion sickness, and the drive to Rincón de la Vieja really affected me. Nobody else became sick, and this could happen to me on any excursion. If you’re also prone to motion sickness, I recommend taking medication beforehand and asking to sit in the front. I felt so sick that I missed the first hike. The staff at Rincón de la Vieja National Park were incredibly kind and actually let me lie down and sleep in their office while my family continued. It rained during their hike, so they didn’t see much wildlife, but they said it was very lush, interesting, and definitely worthwhile. Once I started feeling better, we visited Oropéndola Waterfall, which was beautiful. Because of the rain, the water was brown instead of its usual turquoise and we couldn’t swim, but it was still absolutely worth seeing. Walking across the bridge to the waterfall was one of the highlights for me. We then had lunch at a nice restaurant with a traditional Costa Rican meal before heading to the hot springs. I still wasn’t feeling up to the hot springs, so instead I did a nearby hike where we saw four additional waterfalls, which was a great alternative. Our guide, Adalberto, was extremely funny, friendly, and wonderful throughout the day. I also really appreciated how attentive the driver was once he realized I wasn’t feeling well. He immediately moved me to the front, gave me a pillow, and made sure I was comfortable. Overall, I definitely recommend this excursion. I just wish I hadn’t gotten motion sick because I would have loved to experience the entire tour!
The trip was amazing! Frank our driver and Felipe our tour guide took care of us the whole day. Felipe was very knowledgeable and told us a lot about the culture and the hike. They were able to drop us off for breakfast for the trip too! We were able to swim in the waterfall, hot springs and got a mud bath! Felt amazing. Would recommend this to all I know and would do it again! Thanks Felipe and Frank!
Awesome ! It’s a lot to do for the price. Bring comfortable shoes and there’s a good lunch after ! Frank and Santos were great
This was worth the drive we tool to get there. BRING EXTRA CLOTHES.
We had a great time hiking in Rincon de La Vieja - we saw fumeroles, mud pits, and other volcanic activity. It was hot when we went but we were still able to see spider monkeys, wild turkeys, and a few other birds. The hot springs were neat. The water swimming was perfect cold mountain water to cool you down after the hike. Shoutout for our guide Daphne who was very knowledgeable and super nice!
It was a great trip. We took my older aunt and the tour operators were so patient. Plenty of food and bathroom breaks. Clean bathroom with tissue. I really enjoyed the hot springs
Excellent experience overall. The volcano is the most impressive activity we did in our stay in Guanacaste. This is a 2 mile hike that is kid-friendly. The waterfall was very nice, we enjoyed a 30 minute dip. The thermal bath was also very joyful, you have different pools at different temperatures, all close to 100 degrees F. Santos was our tour guide, he is very knowledgeable and kept the group informed at all times. I highly recommend this tour.
The experience was great! Lots and lots of stairs but completely worth it! The most beautiful tour! We even heard monkeys!
Carry an insulated reusable water bottle during hike. It can get hot. The tour guides provide cold bottles of water, before the hike! This hike was not strenous, however there are several steps to climb and descend. The lunch buffet was excellent and you can eat as much as you want! The tour guides were friendly, informative and fun!
Great experience! Kevin was our tour guide and was fantastic! Very knowledgeable and made the 2 hour hike very interesting. You can tell he has a passion for sharing about the Costa Rican culture.
We had the best time. Great guide. Beautiful waterfalls. Good lunch. Loved the views of the volcano. Perfect day!!
Our guide Daphne was awesome, she guides us, answered questions, ensure we were ok, stayed with us all the time. The lunch was a nice surprise, we were expecting some easy and simple and we were taken to a very ice buffet restaurant.
Harry was amazing. He was so helpful and funny. Really enjoyed our tour and group. Everyone had a great time. This hike is intense so I don’t recommend it if you have bad knees or a bad back. But it’s definitely worth it.
Be sure to bring a snack and a towel. They provide a towel for the hot springs, but not the waterfall in between. You will need an electrolyte drink and a snack after the hike. The hike is about 2 hours and involves a lot of steps. Due to the rain we didn't get to see much wildlife, but still worth it. My legs were jelly after the hike and then you have to do more steps and walking to get to the waterfall and hot springs. You have a chance to change into your swim suit after the hike. I'm an overweight asthmatic and another lady had leg and vertigo issues, but we were both able to do it all. It's strenous, but doable.
Our visit to Parque Nacional Rincón de la Vieja was one of the most memorable excursions of our entire Costa Rica trip. This national park is the perfect blend of adventure, nature, and raw volcanic beauty — the kind of place that reminds you why Costa Rica is known for its incredible landscapes. The park offers a variety of trails, each showcasing something different: bubbling mud pots, steaming fumaroles, volcanic craters, waterfalls, hanging bridges, and lush tropical forest. Walking through the park feels like stepping into a living science documentary. You can literally see and hear the geothermal activity around you, which makes the experience both exciting and surreal. One of the highlights is how diverse the scenery is. Within a single hike, you move from dry forest to volcanic terrain to vibrant greenery. The wildlife is another bonus — we spotted birds, butterflies, and even a few curious monkeys along the way. Everything feels untouched and authentic. What makes Rincón de la Vieja a must‑visit is the balance of adventure and accessibility. Whether you’re into hiking, photography, nature, or just exploring something unique, this park delivers. It’s an excursion that gives you a deeper appreciation for Costa Rica’s natural wonders and volcanic power. If you’re planning your trip, make sure this national park is on your list — it’s absolutely worth the time and the trek.
Daphne was a wonderful and friendly tour guide. My only complaint is that I could have spent more time at each stop, especially the hot springs. It was a very full day but the best one of our whole trip! Just like the advertisement, it was an awesome adventure!
This is a wonderful multi-faceted adventure that really showcases many of the beautiful features and cultural aspects of Costa Rica! You definitely need to be aware that the hiking aspect would be considered moderate - not easy - but SO very worth it! From volcanic steam pots (fumeroles), boiling ground water pools and boiling mud pools to beautiful roaring waterfalls, hanging bridges through dramatic forests - a delicious authentic Costa Rican lunch buffet - and ending up with a refreshing visit to volcanic mineral hot springs to soak up the healing powers (mud bath too if you like)! Our guide, Daphne, was outstanding - very knowledgeable, courteous and patient with our group. (Our driver, Mambo, was great too). Highly recommend this for a very full day of really getting to see it “all” in Costa Rica!!
We had a great time! Daphnne was an awesome tour guide and was so good with all our kids. Her and Mambo our driver made sure we had everything we needed and they were so wonderful teaching us all about Costa Rica!
Daphne is an amazing guide. Very knowledgeable and passionate about her country. The tour felt a little rushed would be my only complaint. Would’ve loved more time in the thermal springs. I definitely recommend Native’s Way. I ended up using them for all my tours while in a Costa Rica.
I was traveling by myself and felt completely safe and well taken care of from start to finish. The pickup process was easy and on time. I really loved that the group was small because it gave everyone a chance to chat and get to know each other. Our tour guide, Kevin Piña, was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to answer all of my questions. Our driver, Felipe, was also very kind and made the entire experience even more enjoyable. The locations we visited were absolutely perfect. Nothing felt overcrowded or overly touristy, and one of the highlights was getting to swim at a waterfall completely to ourselves! I look forward to touring with them again in the future. Highly recommend!
Great time! We had a group of 10 including three young kids. The hike was fun, but a challenge with the kids. The waterfall and hot springs were awesome experiences. We would do it again!
10/10 ! This tour has it all! We hiked through the volcano and saw spider monkeys and a viper. The waterfall was so beautiful and refreshing and the hot springs were relaxing. Daffney our guide was so smart and thorough. This is a great family tour.
I personally had a good time but be warned this is a strenuous hike in the hot sun. We had some setbacks because of this but I enjoyed the views and cooling off in the waterfall. The food was delicious too.
We absolutely loved everything about this tour. Our guide Adberto and driver Raphael were awesome. Adberto is very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of Costa Rica as well as the history and people of the Guanacaste region. We stopped at a local cafe for breakfast and to exchange passengers from other pick up points. The food was very good and was a nice local eatery. The hike thru the national park was great. The waterfall was beautiful and very refreshing. The hot spring and mud bath was rejuvenating. We were served Lunch which was delicious. Highly recommend this experience, first class!
This trip is outstanding. Beautiful scenery. The waterfall, hot springs, and mud bath are amazing. Guide was very knowledgeable. Food was fantastic
Knowledgeable guides. Great places. Waterfall was the best. Hat springs were awesome. The hiike through the volcano park and viewing the steam pools was cool. I believe everybody should do it at least once.
We are glad we took the excursion but here are a few things to consider. The volcano hike was very long. Be prepared for about 3-4 miles. More than we wanted to walk. The visit to the hot springs was not long enough. We needed more time after all the walking. There were towels provided there and that was nice. The waterfall was much smaller than we anticipated and has very steep set of stairs with a small platform. Our tour guide Alejandro was very nice and made the experience fun. The vans were comfortable and drivers that picked us up were pleasant. We are glad we did the excursion as it will probably be a once in a lifetime trip to this beautiful country.
It’s good exercise, beautiful, and just great. The tour guide, Harry was fun and very informative. The driver, Armando was pleasant as well.
We had a great time. Other participants of the tour were loud and obnoxious. Cannot blame your guide for that. Would have liked guide give history of Costa Rica, but not sure I would have heard over those obnoxious travellers. 11 hour trip made for a LONG day, be prepared to walk.
This was an extraordinary experience. The 2 hour hike can be a bit tough, but my trekking poles made it possible with those high steps and small breaks. I used Sawyer mosquito spray and never got bitten. The waterfall swim was so good after the long hike. And it was beautiful. I highly recommend water shoes since it’s rocky. The hanging bridges are scary but I went slow! The hot springs! Oh that 102 degree water was so welcoming! I did not want to get out! Don’t forget to spread the volcanic mud on you, then rinse at the river or shower. Again, good water shoes will be needed in this river. Have your walking sandals for the little hike to and from the waterfall and hot springs, if your water shoes have no thick sole. Slighty rocky trail. The food at the end was buffet style and oh so delicious. The driver was awesome and the tour guide stopped and educated us on many things while on the bus and hike. They were great! I must of been the oldest person in the group and i slowed down during the end. The guide kept an eye on me and told me to take my time. Good water shoes, good hiking shoes, trekking/hiking poles, sandals, microfiber towel, sun hat, sunscreen and mosquito spray. You will be all set! This was a fantastic and most beautiful, all-day excursion with an excellent tour guide and driver!
We had a really good time. The excursion exceeded our expectations. The things we were concerned about like the heat and the bugs were not an issue. The hike was the first things we did so it was the coolest part of the day, done mostly in a heavily shaded forest, and was at a pace that allowed frequency rests to find and look for animals. We had bug spray on but never reapplied it the whole day. There was ample time and changing rooms between each part of the excursion for changing clothes and shoes. We felt very safe leaving our belongings on the bus and not carrying them. The waterfall was spectacular. The water was very cold and refreshing after the hike! The hot springs were “hot tub hot”. There were several to enjoy before using the mud! It left our skin so smooth after showering it off and going into the creek adjacent to the springs. The bus stopped in the morning to get authentic Costa Rican food for breakfast if you wanted to buy it and again for lunch after the hot springs. The buffet lunch was included and had a large selection of food choices-Really good food in an outdoor Costa Rican restaurant. At the very end of the excursion there was a stop for souvenirs of all kinds- coffee, liquor, clothes, etc. It was a 12 hour, full day of memory making!
Guide was terrible. Practically ran the whole tour. Shared minimal info on plants and animals. Shining moment was 2 howler monkeys in a tree and a tapir.
Excellent experience. The hike to the volcano followed by the waterfall and the hot springs was great.
